The opening paragraph should ring loud for any New Zealanders who have been paying attention to the flippant way in which policy is being delivered by Ardern and her cronies.

“Venezuela has been conducting an experiment into what happens when a government declares war on all forms of expertise. And in the last five years, the results have become clear: You get one of the biggest economic catastrophes in modern history.”

And while not entirely sheeting the failings of the economy to the Bolivarian form of Socialism Chávez and Maduro espoused (which is debatable);

“The simple story is that the government took over one sector of the economy after another – steel, mining, agriculture, just to name a few – and got rid of people who were good at their jobs so they could bring in ones who were good at being loyal.”

Will our Princess of Progressive-ism even recognise such failings? Unlikely for when did facts ever usurp “feelz” in her world?

    They do not run a decent appointments or review process. The appointing managers are dubious too, they are arse lickers too so appoint arse lickers as their subordinates.
    One manager was brought in from outside following a resignation with a mandate to do some downsizing. He was reasonably competent but made the mistake of discussing downsizing with his immediate reports. So he left all but one intact and downsized at the next level. After a year or so he realised he had let go of some of his potentially valuable people whereas he should have got rid of some of his immediate reports.

  They might have a point.

Does this cretin think no other Governments have listened and tried to make decisions in the best interests of ALL kiwis.

There is no partnership, never has been ,only a country call New Zealand where we are all have a vested interest.
This so called dialogue ,about recognising difference is a school girl fantasy ,its destructive.

Have there been consequences that have impacted Maori poorly over the years, yes,but over many years successive Governments have tried and accepted that we as a Country must change and adapt for the betterment of our collective society.

Treating one section or any group of a Country collective as seperate or special never works, it never has.

She is immature and pathetic, a leader in name only,
a fool in actions? definitely.

  We should recognise differences and celebrate them, perhaps have fair policies to accommodate/compensate them.
  
  For example it seems Maori males make much better rugby players than white males. Should we have affirmative action in rugby like we do in med/law at uni and have a skinny short white guy quota in the All Blacks? It’s only fair we try and engineer equality of outcomes as equal opportunity isn’t enough social engineering for a socialist.

      However, the Maori All Blacks, many of them pale skinned, haven’t fared as well internationally as the All Blacks.

I was just reading about Grant Robertson preparing to sell CGT . The pitch is of course about “fairness” and in particular about how capital growth is “income” and therefore should be taxed. The inference is that tax is always a levy on income.

If that is the case how does he justify GST. This is a tax on expenditure as whilst it is collected by the vendor it is paid by the end user on their expenses.

I am not anti GST but my point is that the line of argument Robbo is using is flawed.

And if you are going to tax capital gain why is the family home exempt “for obvious reasons” what obvious reason exactly?

A group of 85 Labour Party interns flew to New Zealand from around the world expecting lectures from Helen Clark and real world campaign experience. They arrived to a cramped dormitory, no pay, no lectures, and a broken shower.

Richard Harmon reported at the time:

The students met Labour party officials on Saturday to protest about their accommodation and were asked to sign non-disclosure agreements.

I recall that Andrew Little stepped in to clean up the mess.

I’m sure that Labour has moved on, and Labour HQ probably hopes that everyone else has moved on too, but did we ever get a full explanation (otherwise known as transparency) about what went wrong?

Make TV roster their staff and keep all new and current affairs programs keep going all year round.

      There are lots of things that would increase productivity. IIRC Treasury did a huge piece of work between 2002 and 2007 that explorer New Zealand’s productivity performance. And the remedies. But government seems to have given up. Hence well being.

        This where negative GDP per person needs to be changed, in education, upskilled, technology.
        Difficult as it maybe, that is where change should be happening, education, improved health, housing that they own, that is more deeply ingrained in a community, and not a cargo cult of values of inter generational following.
        
        The following of vibrancy, diversity, sustainability, deepening into multicultural, politically correct, wellness benevolence is enslaving, that though it seems to have a responsibility and accountability, it is pointedly changed to be used by social justice warriors, and other bureaucratic systems, that gain the benefits for themselves.

      Looking at the likes of Britain who have gone down this route, it appears they have even bigger problems with the sheer numbers of low paid workers packed like sardines in limited housing and a whole industry that has grown up evicting tenants and rehousing them. Jacinda keeps forgetting what has happened to other political Leaders in NZ Politics when Maori have had enough and can’t get anymore from the on going Gravy train. You only have to look at the Maori Party to see that, Little persuades Willie Jackson to join Labour with the promise of a seat in Parliament and a high list placing if they they become the Government for his help of taking the Maori seats back to Labour. Now they have the seats they haven’t done a lot for Maori and the warning will come over Waitangi Day so it will be interesting to what she will promise as there are more strikes on the horizon with the Government continually repeating we can’t help as we haven’t got the money. Water rights, Tribes not prepared to settle treaty negotiations and Maori numbers in our prisons with education are not being improved by the Labour Lead Coalition so there could be some testy conversations take place at Waitangi.

    Also, I have to disagree that they ‘haven’t done a lot for Maori’: already Jones is helping them set up irrigation schemes with public funds where big schemes have been closed down, tribal property will be exempt from CGT, and many pro-Maori discriminatory practices are already used in state sector employment and university courses.

  To cut a long story short if the Council incorrectly issued the code compliance certificate, the Council has to bear the financial responsibility and of the parties being sued the Council has the deepest pocket.
  Very probably in Sydney, councils do not have that depth of responsibility and liability that NZ courts (judge made law) have imposed on councils in NZ with respect to buildings supervision and inspections.

      The others are pursued, but do not have pockets as deep as Councils. Even if the aggrieved party starts off with the Council the Council will drag the others into the litigation to see what money can be wrung out of them first. Hence the ratepayers have effectively ended up as the ‘re-insurers’ of the building business.
      This is why private building inspections failed. They were supposed to have unlimited indemnity but no insurance company could offer this so the Government agency had to accept inspection firms buying ‘capped’ indemnity including a capped total for each firm. When leaky homes started to happen and claims came in, the caps were soon consumed and the inspection firms all went out of business. The aggrieved then tried to sue councils but without success in most cases.

  I predict the inquiry will find that there is nothing materially anti competitive about the petroleum market. There was much political outrage about the leaked emails from petroleum executives that revealed parts of their pricing strategy. Companies are perfectly entitled to charge more for petrol in central Wellington than in otaki. Same the world over. In Sydney, petrol is at least 10 cents cheaper out in the working class suburbs compared to the harbour side suburbs. For obvious reasons.
  
  I’ll be surprised if a year from now there is some big reveal. Even more so if it is anything the government can do anything about.

The long suffering taxpayer won’t see any recovery of money from this judgement as the only reason she is in a HNZ place is that she has no money and probably no work.
Basically just a worthless bum.
Going forward though maybe HNZ should start building palm huts or corrugated iron shacks in Mt Roskill and other high density third world immigrant areas as they may feel more “at home” in this kind of place as in a lot of cases houses are beyond the level of development they have reached.

        They didn’t spell it ‘mori’, they spelled it ‘Māori.’ The ā will have been stripped out by the web server when it created the URL because the encoding of ā isn’t compatible with URLs (at least, not in a user-friendly way). Most blog software strips out articles and some prepositions from headlines as well when it creates URLs.

Foreign donations to the National Party feature in a post on Michael Reddell’s Croaking Cassandra blog. It raises memory of the big foreign donation to National in 2017.

That was $150,000 from Lang Lin’s Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Industry (NZ) Ltd. Lin has sent 1200 New Zealand racehorses to China to race and breed. The New Zealand racing industry is far more dependent on Lang Lin than the National Party is.

Forbes Asia in December inlcuded an article on Lang Lin, who lives in Inner Mongolia, but seems to be either a Manchurian or a Han Chinese.

He must be Mr Big in NZ racing. He’s bought a 300-acre stud farm, and 100 brood mares to go with three stallions there.

The article includes this:

“In a boost for broodmare owners in the South Island, where the industry is in decline, Lang is offering to buy healthy foals sired there by his stallion Mongolian Falcon for $6,800, a potentially hefty return on the $2,000 service fee.”

Lang has spent $9.5 million on Kiwi-bred horses since 2012 and leaves his larger purchases in New Zealand to be trained.

He is also secretary-general of the non-profit China Horse Owners’ Association, whose 200 members are four-fifths of China’s horse owners.

In China, betting on horse races is still legal only for Hong Kong.

The strategy of Lang Lin seems to be taking a position to be the big player in Chinese horse racing when (and if) betting on it is legalised.

It’s election year, so the Licensing Trusts are sending out their election year bribes/gifts/first aid kits to all Westie households. Giving out the money and the prezzies always such a sweet reminder to vote your incumbent politician back into their elected positions on the licensing trust, and local government , and to prop up their pokies company. We really need this legislation reviewed. The politicians shouldn’t be able to campaign on giving out grants. Invercargill seems to do a better job – but in Waitakere the gambling isn’t owned by the people, it’s a limited company where the director is a councillor and also head of the licensing trust?! And the Waitakere licensing trust model is also different to invercargill, as in the west it’s run through a seperate company wats ltd, not subject to lgoima, so their is little visibility to their financials or operations.
