Kathleen Zellner shows how to properly investigate a murder, and shows a vast exercise in noble cause corruption in season two of Making a Murderer. Here is a selection of points made by a proper criminoligist and researcher. All New Zealanders are well advised to watch this season, preferably watch season one first. There is a major lesson to be understood. Be cautious however, it is doubtful Bobby Dassey is the killer.

“- Zellner’s firearms consultants found that the bullet in Avery’s garage, which revealed Halbach’s DNA when swabbed and tested, had been fired through a piece of wood. Wood fiber was embedded in the slug.

– Zellner’s DNA consultant immediately noticed that the swabs for the hood latch and the car key quantitated at 10x the normal level for epithelial DNA from handling an object. Zellner performed a series of tests to show that the DNA levels in these samples could not have resulted from ordinary handling.

– Zellner established that Halbach marked up her day planner during the course of the day she disappeared, because her notes reflect calls she received that day. She did not have time to take it home. Therefore Ryan Hillegas could not have found it in her house as he claims he did. It was in her car.

– Zellner noticed a series of calls from a blocked number that were made to Hillegas during a narrow time frame on the night before Halbach’s car was found in Avery’s junkyard. These calls went through a cell tower near the junkyard. Zellner surmises that police were in contact with Hillegas while he moved the car, instructing him on what to do. The calls kept dropping because it is a marginal coverage area.

Zellner has shredded the case against Avery. She has also established what really happened. Someone lured Halbach to a remote area, killed her, loaded her body in the back of her car, and returned later to incinerate the body. Then the car was moved to a place where it would be easy to find. A local truck driver reported it to Deputy Colborn the day the missing person flyers went up. From then on, half the county was complicit in the frame-up, apparently because they all believed Avery had done it.”

  Whenever someone finds a “consultant” my skepticism is triggered. Consultants and expert witnesses are often far less capable than juries are led to believe and are seldom unbiased.

  – Shroubrek is now guaranteed to be able to stay in NZ (think Kim Dot Crim – he’s still here) the fiasco of the “stay”, “no, GO” “45 mins to flip through the file before making the decision” has given Shroubrek everything he needs for a good lawyer to convince an activist dud judge to say “natural justice” and leave the crook here to deal to the Auckland media community
  – Labour Youth Rape camps – safely buried and no casualties. The sheeple have been headed off and it’s Xmas so it’ll never surface again
  – Jan Thomas – remember her? I read plenty of commenters here who were totally confident she’d be gone in weeks. Well us sheeple were put off and now we’ve forgotten and we’re all worked up about the duck instead. Meanwhile that fascist bitch is free to strangle free speech and poison the minds of the future – all that’s happened is she’s been burned and she’ll be more careful about her thought-control
  – conservatives Molyneaux and Southern didn’t get to speak but the treasonous and mentally ill Brad Manning did. Wow big win there for the right

Once again- Kudos to Simon Bridges for his comprehensive dismantling of Ardern yesterday!
I have seen plenty of Crown Prosecutors take people apart on the stand and that was as good as it gets- Ardern just crumbled…
Don’t expect the ‘People’s Princess’ to reappear anytime soon- She was humiliated yesterday and the reality that she is hopelessly out of her depth and simply not clever enough to get away with repeated lies will be sinking in…

Keep the foot on the throat National! The truth re Soubrek has to come out soon…

    As I stated earlier, Soper is still digging himself out of Labour internal polling hole. 2 holes in his argument A. The leak of Nats polling at 41% was when the left were claiming they were polling in the 30’s so it may not have been a purely anti Simon leak- they also did not reveal Simons personal polling. B. 46% was achieved a week later after Simons tax announcement. No new taxes = 5%. NZ needs some higher IQ journalists. Simons take down of Jacinda was very impressive.

    So far no-0ne (eg MSM, slippery Soper etc) has explained why Speaker Mallard was rising to his feet when Simon Bridges was still asking a question to the PM.
    
    The narrative has been Simon Bridges said something “he shouldn’t have”, but that happened after Mallard rose (as PG’s transcript confirms).
    
    So why was Mallard rising to stop Simon Bridges mid-sentence questioning the PM?
    
    Clearly Mallard was being partisan and wanted to stop Simon Bridges further exposing the weak and feeble Prime Minister.
    
    If so perhaps it is time that National put a motion of no-confidence in the Speaker, it will be a great way to end the year and best of all the Duck will be fuming all summer long until Parliament resumes in 2019 and he awaits his fate!

      TBH we won’t know what the Speaker was going to say because Bridges interrupted him.
      
      Whatever your politics, this was a clear breach of the rules, and the Speaker was quite right to eject him. It was not a matter of the Speaker trying to protect the PM. He most likely would have said to Bridges that his question was out of order and that he should repeat it in an orderly fashion.
      
      National seem to be turning into a bunch of snowflakes under Bridges.

  Being cross examined by some-one who knows what they are doing is not a pleasant experience.
  I know that from personal experience of both being examined and watching it happen to others.
  And the PM will know that.
  She will also know that unlike a court case where the cross can be over in hours and once complete that is it, she will be asked questions in the house on the subject regularly. she will start to dread the chinese water torture.

  If I were to “read between the lines”, I’d say the boyfriend’s martial arts mate asked a favour on behalf of an incarcerated friend. The boyfriend, being a big-noting blowhard said “sure I’ll get the misses to do us a favour”. She wanders around to ILG’s office (last time it was Clare) and gives instructions.     Then there is the curious unannounced visit by Immigration and Police to the ex-wife at a secret safe house. Could it be that there was no new information for ILG to base a decision to reverse residency on, so some had to be manufactured? A retraction of a character reference could just be the “new information” Cindy and ILG needed, so did they arrange for that to happen?   At the end of Parliament yesterday David Carter very politely had a little chat to the Duck and told him to re-read the day’s questions and reflect on his performance. I thought it was gold. (although he did agree that Simon shouldn’t have disagreed with the chair). As far as I’m concerned respect should only be given when it’s due and Trevor is not due any.

Question Time in Parliament yesterday was a little different, notwithstanding LK’s comments above. Not just because the National Leader was ejected from the House by an increasingly irascible Mallard, but – equally tellingly – for some changes of personal demeanour on the part of PM Jacinda Ardern.

Ardern yesterday presented herself in a less arrogant and pouty manner when responding to questions directed to her. Much of her response material provided little information of great value, but was delivered in a manner that displayed rather less of the petulance and arrogance to which viewers have become accustomed of late.

Moreover, after each of the answers that she provided, Ardern sat down in a more natural and dignified manner – rather than flopping back angrily into her green-leather-upholstered chair in a gesture that has shown her displeasure at having to undergo direct questioning in the House.

Clearly one (or possibly more) of Ardern’s political advisors – maybe Ardern herself –is an alert follower of this blog. Kiwiblog has carried several comments recently about the PM’s customary petulance at being asked questions that she considers to be beneath her station to answer. And her advisor(s) would be able to assess the damage that she has been doing to the dignity and personal decorum that should always attach to Prime Ministerial pronouncements.

How long will Ardern’s fresh approach continue? She remains naïve and inexperienced, and lacks natural leadership skills at her now-elevated level of office. She seems to be under considerable personal pressure much of the time, but at least now she may have taken on board a few helpful tips from her Kiwiblog fan club!

My missus reckons we could well see Simon’s line of questioning of the accidental PM, particularly in relation to the Scroubek fiasco, ease back somewhat. She thinks Simon is really a ‘big softy’ at heart, and will have detected just how rattled and uncomfortable the ‘new mum’ has become.

She also thinks he may even be under a bit of pressure on the ‘home front’, not to come across as a bit of a bullying koont.

Noticed yesterday in question time in NZs cess pit in Parliament . Simon Bridges asked the Peters selected woman PM Commie Chic Comrade Ardern a question about the drug runner and Gangster Sroubek.Her face took on the pallor of fifty shades of bad shit. No way was she going to answer.
Suddenly her pit bull guard dog came to her rescue. A rat bag and sick fugh called Mallard saved her from crapping herself.
He banished Simon Bridges out of the cess pit along with Gerry Brownlee. Seems Simons question hit a raw nerve with the small town twerp masquerading as NZs PM.
In view of not answering basic questions on Sroubek by Ardern, seems not a good look.
Perhaps maybe a visit to our Police Commissioner Mike Bush on what is going on in the Sroubek fiasco. Wonder will he shed some light on who or what Sroubek was supplying with illegal drugs. Go on Mike ,tell the Nation of NZ ,make our day. Just saying.

I’ve decided to start taking a positive approach to the issue of climate change. Rather than waste time complaining about the hysterical virtue-signallers telling us for the 1000th time that we need to “do something”, I’ve decided to start thinking about what realistic emission reduction options we have. The keyword in there is realistic. Which rules out almost all of the proposals from the modern, ideologically-driven environmental movement, who sadly are only interested in what they want to be true, not the real world.

Let’s begin with an axiom – given the timeframe, any solutions need to start with technologies we currently have. I’m not saying we should cut funding for R&D on Green technologies or renewables, but to achieve significant emissions reductions by 2050 we need to start breaking ground immediately. That means that in the short term we can only consider technologies available right now. Specifically this would exclude;

– Wave and tidal power. No commercial power stations exist from either of these sources yet, so for now they have to be ruled out.
– Large scale energy storage. Same as with wave/tidal power, this hasn’t been done yet.
– Wind and Solar power making up more than around 20-25% of electrical production. This one I know is going to upset a lot of people who really want these technologies to work. But the argument is the same as the above; despite billions of dollars in investment and huge amounts of R&D, no country in the world has managed to achieve this yet. It may perhaps become possible in the future, but we can’t plan around that assumption. We have to plan based around what technologies are available right now.

It also seems a fair assumption that we can’t do much to increase the contribution of hydro and geothermal to electrical production. Both are limited by the availability of appropriate geography, and we’ve already pretty much maxed these out. So with Wind/Solar making up the 25% that is the optimistic maximum they can, add 20% from hydro and geothermal (they’re around 16% globally right now, so again this is optimistic), and this brings us to 45% of electrical production from renewables. And that’s it. That is the absolute highest percentage of our electrical production that renewables could possibly contribute. Anybody claiming otherwise is talking about hopes and dreams, not currently available technology.

So where does that leave us? We want to get rid of fossil fuels, and renewables can’t make up the shortfalls. What other options do we have?

Only one – the dreaded N-word. Nuclear power.

Environmentalists may not like it, but with current technology nuclear is the only option to provide the majority of our power with net-zero emissions. Wind and solar are just fundamentally limited, they can never be more than a modest fraction of the power grid. The technology is settled on this point, every bit as much as the science is settled on climate change. We need to begin a major program of nuclear power plant construction, using the most modern and safest designs available. We also need to start spending more for R&D on nuclear technologies – in particular improving spent-fuel reprocessing needs to be a priority area.

    Unfortunately both of those designs violate the “only existing technology” axiom. They are very promising ideas that should definitely continue to be developed, but we wouldn’t be able to just start building a reactor tomorrow.
    
    Restricting ourselves only existing technology means only Gen III and a few Gen III+ reactor designs should be considered. These have commercial reactors either operational or currently under construction.

    First off, the economics are nuclear power are highly debatable. It depend heavily on what externalities get included. But even if for the sake of argument we assume it is more expensive than other power sources, so what? It is literally our only option.
    
    Wind and solar simply cannot provide more than a small fraction of the electricity our society needs, especially once we begin widespread electrification for transport. That is a simple fact. So we have three choice. One, go nuclear. Two, stick with fossil fuels and accept that climate change will happen. Or three, reduce our energy use (and therefore pretty much automatically our standard of living) to an almost pre-industrial level.
    
    For myself (and I suspect the vast majority of people), I’d rule out 3. So which do you think is the greater threat stephieboy, nuclear power (which has already been in widespread use for nearly 70 years now, with only a handful of accidents) or climate change?

    a 1.5mw wind turbine supplies about 300 households with power. They cost about $5m each.
    
    Auckland’s households alone, not business, would need about 2,000 wind turbines – cost approx $8bn just for the turbines, there’ll be infrastructure and storage costs too.
    
    Oh, and at the end of that you don’t have a reliable supply so you’ll need back-generation on top.
    
    Also, don’t forget to factor in r&m and the inevitable expansion needed as Auckland grows – far more difficult than just firing up another another coal-burner and the supply will be distributed rather than all in one place. Then there’s land costs of course and the duplicated teams that will be needed because it’s not centralised.
    
    A modern nuclear plant to supply the equivalent energy is around $6bn (including decommissioning) and gives continuity of supply and much lower running costs.
    
    Do all this, and you still haven’t factored in business energy needs. Oh and don’t forget we’re going to have to power all those electric vehicles too.
    
    Good luck with the wind, sun & rain – it ain’t going to cut it.

So we seem to have a certain few Government Ministers that think major decisions that should be agreed to by the Government Caucus can be made amongs’t themselves. Why would it surprise anyone that Phil Twyford , Sweet Cheeks and Shane Jones think that they can make decisions like reducing how much the Government will take from your profit if you flick your kiwibuild house before you 3 years penalty apply from 100% to 30%. But by all accounts the Prime Minister is not happy and will revisit this because she was not happy to find out after several weeks. Can anyone please tell me why this has gone unnoticed by this insult for a Prime Minister for nearly two months without her being aware or is she to tied up in her own importance to notice bad examples being made by inept Ministers.

  Actually Happychappy, IMO that was the most newsworthy story yesterday (and one that the MSM tried to bury/deflect).
  
  I saw Newshub 6pm news “blaming” Twyford, but Twyford wasn’t taking that – he named Robertson and Jones as well, as being the 3 that thought up the change in policy.
  
  So if Jacinda wasn’t consulted, why are the MSM homing onto Twyford and ignoring Robertson, the so-called “H3”?
  
  Put another way, why does the scheming, calculating and also out-of-his-depth Robertson never receive any serious MSM scrutiny? Why wasn’t he being questioned as to why Jacinda wasn’t informed?
  
  Meewonders has “H3” been a secret source to the MSM since the Clark days, and if so is that why the MSM will of course never “attack” their so-called confidential sources?
  
  Plus also the real deal is, other Labour and NZF MP’s are making the decisions without PM sign-off! This is incredible, it would never happen under Helen Clark, John Key or Bill English etc, so again why isn’t the MSM querying why Jacinda is deliberately being kept out of the loop at times?         It wasn’t really known to the teenage fans of the 70s and 80s. We just had no idea he was gay, it wasn’t an ‘out there’ issue at the time.

I fear government policy of the past 4 decades is making an increasing number of citizens tax receivers rather than tax payers. WFF was the biggest driver of this although preceding governments had moved to create the situation where tax was paid and then refunded all costing large amounts in administration.

This of course is the hallmark of Big Government. Rather than getting out of the way of hardworking citizens and only taking the minimum amount in order to provide services and assist those who genuinely and I stress genuinely need assistance Big Government taxes everyone and then in a Santa like complex distributes back goodies but only to those who will vote for it.

I believe we are now at or close to having 50% of citizens not only paying no tax but receiving tax back to prop up their incomes and that 90% of income tax is paid by 178,000 individuals.

The net result is that politicians (except ACT) seek to buy votes out and out bribery caring not for the results or the good of society as a whole but merely to win and retain power.

Citizens are being sucked into a black whole where they becoming more and more reliant on their political masters for their incomes.

Meanwhile wages and salaries are depressed because employers know the Government will prop up low wages with tax subsidies so there is no need to pay higher wages.

It will all end badly as fewer and fewer citizens will be net tax payers and more and more will leave for countries with less onorus tax regimes leaving the government trying to collect more and more taxes from fewer and fewer citizens.

  I was watching a very good interview with Thomas Sowell on YT where he said that poverty among blacks and hispanics rose when the welfare state was brought in, due mainly to the rise in single parent families and fewer jobs at the lower level caused by minimum wage legislation.
  
  It was also interesting to hear how he went from being a Marxist to a capitalist once he got a job in the real world.

    Been a big fan of his for years. Speaks common sense economics from the individuals and business perspective; work and income then leading to individual and collective benefits.
    He’s no fan of unearned distribution, and believes only in rewards; earned pay rises and bonuses for the individual worker and not the collective – unionised OR NOT!!!!! The fault in ‘nz business economics’ is that many businesses treat staff as an ununionized collective and pay them accordingly, there is very little difference in pay rates between the productive and under productive, and hence people then do need a so called ‘tax break’ WFF; where two people who work full time can’t provide a roof over their families heads as they don’t earn enough between them!!!
    
    Poverty for all came in when WFF was added to welfare legislation, as taxes were then mostly collected from business, and none from employees. Would you pay your staff a pay rise if you saw the government prepared instead to give them some of the tax you are currently paying?
    
    What would your accountants advice be? 😎

  I got 31 downvotes for making that same observation yesterday. Kiwiblog commentators are a fickle bunch.
  
  It should be obvious that our economy is essentially a ponzi scheme that falls apart unless it is “growing”. Which is why our political elites have become so adept at creating fake economic growth in the absence of real growth. If Labour wasn’t funding their ridiculous provincial growth fund then National would be funnelling money into useless roading projects – for exactly the same reasons.
  
  Kiwibloggers like to assume I’m a Labour supporter because I criticise National. But I stopped voting for National when it became apparent that they had delivered nine years of nothing during their time in power. The facts speaks for themselves:
  
  1. National increased our net national debt from $10 billion to over $60 billion. Creating a massive debt which future generations will struggle to repay.
  
  2. National imported record numbers of low-skill migrants to increase domestic consumption. Which has resulted in a housing affordability crisis and overloaded instrastructure.
  
  3. National refused to dismantle WfF. Which has entrenched low-wages by means of a government wage subsidy to employers.
  
  4. National prioritised low-productivity sectors like tourism over actual productive enterprises. Which has created tens of thousands of non-productive and low-paid service jobs.
  
  5. National rubber-stamped the sale of significant productive assets to off-shore owners. Resulting in the expatriation of profits and a further loss of our economic sovereignty.
  
  And people wonder why I stopped voting for National…

    Gump, what you are saying about the recent past is correct, ie about the period of Labour lite.
    
    However, it has also been a reality since 1949 when the first National government was elected. During each term of government, National continued to put in place (or keep) more of a ponzi govt regime than Labour. During the period of Muldoon, what the govt of the day was doing was so at odds with the party constitution (which use to be printed in a membership booklet) that there were Auckland Divisional Councillors who wanted to change the constitution to suit.
    
    The problem in 1970s -1080s (& during periods of government generally), is that the membership lose control of the party and that is the problem today. With that, the members fail to control the agenda of a party they want to support & if members aren’t convinced (as is often seen written here by a number of members), how easy for you think it is to convince the voting public.
    
    As for our government regime being a ponzi scheme, sadly, every western democracy is one. They all follow a variant of Keynesian thinking & will continue to do so while their are economists who tell them it is ok to print money or borrow more to satisfy the appetite of their voting public. The only time it comes unstuck is when the population diminishes to levels where you don’t have a working population.
    
    As for your situation, you don’t have any real options as who to vote for, so the only option is to join a party, change it from within & make it relevant to the voting public.

    They’re on the right track as it is entry level work for all school leavers and immigrants, and service jobs socialise people also. And it raises the standard of local service and goods, more so in the restaurant and hotel side of things, but that is if the standard of tourists keep rising; hoards of Asian business tourists are a better market than retired Chinese workers on bargain tours. And a far better market again than pizza eating back packers – who again only return once they are retired – and far better again than ‘Freeloader Campers’ who literally shit on those who are being charitable towards them.
    
    NZ hasn’t targeted it’s markets terribly well in the last 20yrs or so and needs to move up far further, that’s not to say you shouldn’t have back packers or those who want to cycle around for a month, as activity is revenue, but some activities attract far more revenue than others, and as you suggest – at least tourism and hospitality could be far more productive and fair towards everyone — as other foreign related industries in NZ pay employees far better. Why have say Air NZ win such a significant international award to then only have it carry less beneficial people half way round the globe to one of the best places on the globe. It’s like selling yourself short. A flight on Air NZ is NOT the holiday that people have paid for, they have paid for a ‘period of time in NZ’ – not just a period of time on a plane.
    
    It’s not like tourism related workers don’t have the capacity to service and provide for far better tourists, or the government too for that matter.
    It’s simply a case of finding all the weak areas in tourism – Air NZ obviously being not one, and general friendliness towards tourists not being the case, but tourism marketing is appearing to be a matter of concern – and then drastically improving them.
    
    NZ is very reliant on tourism and currently in Europe councils have essentially been clamping down on the problems related with mass tourism; congestion and complaints from rate payers, and low revenue from business owners. Like the Japanese and Koreans before them I don’t think NZ will be getting much out of the Chinese mass tourism market as everything will be owned and operated by them, just like the Koreans and Japs before them did. At best NZ will get low paid jobs.

    gump – I have learnt to never presume. I am an unbending National supporter, just as I defend my family, I just can’t help it so in response to your five points, (I hope you don’t find them offensive or too ignorant).
    1. $60b as Cullen gleefully left NO money so borrowing had to begin basically straight away to pay benefits, public servants etc just keep the country ticking over. Then we had the GFC, Dick Hubbard’s company and numerous earthquakes.
    
    2. Low skilled migrants were necessary as the so called productive sector could produce for export as no bloody kiwis were prepared to get off their posteriors as the dole was too easy.
    
    3. WFF – It would be catastrophic for families who due to low wages were to have their tax rebates taken off them – so an impossible position for any government.
    4. All countries rely quite substantially on tourism, Japan for example have about 23 million per year. People love to travel the world these days because it’s affordable for many.
    5. Off shore buyers are the only ones who can afford to buy productive assets being sold by Kiwi’s as the locals can’t possibly afford the money they want – I can’t see apart from the Government allowing it why people aren’t entitled to get top dollar for their businesses.

    1. What matters is the relative increase, not the gross. Relatively, our debt was about $120billion less then it would have been under Cunliffe and Co. I have zero tolerance for anyone who criticises National on debt under Key/English. I have less then zero for ‘right-wingers’. Anyone who criticises a party that ran multiple zero budgets/balanced budgets is an idiot. They ran zero budgets. They got back to massive surplus. Shoosh.
    
    2. National can be forgiven for their migration stance because they were so successful with the economy that the AU/NZ numbers reversed. We shot up to 70k when no one expected it to be that high and it never dropped. I’ve also gone through the process myself of seeing how you would cut it down. It’s prohibitive. You have to ban family, and if you ban family you can’t get the people you need to build the houses we need to build. They could have done more on the margins but the real problem was the relative economic strength. BE was believable when he said we could handle the growth. We can’t under Labour. We could under National. And the Chinese voted National. My main opposition to migration in the US is that they vote for gibs/destabilisation. Here, they vote for the good guys. That deserves at least some pause. If the ‘natural conservatives’ in the US weren’t shameless parasites and socialists who actually ever voted Republican they wouldn’t be cleaning their gun barrels right now.
    
    The revised productivity numbers StatsNZ came out with ‘after’ the election showed it was economy –> migration, not migration –> economy. I am anti-immigration but the corollary is being better then the bugmen and the mud people. NZ is too full of useless trogs who forget the corollary.
    
    3. WFF was appropriate during the GFC. It was going to be heavily pruned and gradually removed. Check BE’s election platform.
    
    4. Growth is growth. It’s like Labour saying it’s bad when milk prices go up or down. Manufacturing and high-end products were on a tear under National. The fact tourism numbers were booming isn’t a bad thing. It’s a very good thing.
    
    5. This is your most bullshit argument yet. National’s capital management is the best in the world. The power company sales for example mean those companies produce TWICE the dividend on HALF the government ownership. You sound like a Greens supporter. And most of the ownership went to NZ weighted institutional investors.
    
    You stopped voting National because you are apparently a Greens voter. Which is fine. Just don’t say you’re right-wing. Because you aren’t. Don’t sit there and broadcast idiocy as to why you stopped voting National.     Tall man, I beg to differ. Getting rid of WFF is easy. The clue is in the name. All that is required is reinstating the two tier tax scale introduced by Roger Douglas. Move it from being a welfare benefit, to incentivise work. Make the tax free band high enough to encourage work and thereby raise productivity and reduce the incidence of employers using WFF as a means to subsidising the low wage mentality & benefit culture. Regarding other benefits you adjust them to recognize the new tax structure.
    
    Higher productivity, will result in higher earnings, equals more tax, result the government can reduce taxes.
    
    Much more beneficial than keeping a benefit that makes working people dependent.
    
    Properly explained, & if all buy in, it can work at the ballot box. It did for Labour in 1987, 12 months after GST was introduced.

In other words, they want to control the discussion on migration and the culture of particular migrants

“a) Enact, implement or maintain legislation that penalizes hate crimes and aggravated hate crimes targeting migrants, and train law enforcement and other public officials to identify, prevent and respond to such crimes and other acts of violence that target migrants, as well as to provide medical, legal and psychosocial assistance for victims”

“b) Empower migrants and communities to denounce any acts of incitement to violence directed towards migrants by informing them of available mechanisms for redress, and ensure that those who actively participate in the commission of a hate crime targeting migrants are held accountable, in accordance with national legislation, while upholding international human rights law, in particular the right to freedom of expression”

“c) Promote independent, objective and quality reporting of media outlets, including internet based information, including by sensitizing and educating media professionals on migration-related issues and terminology, investing in ethical reporting standards and advertising, and stopping allocation of public funding or material support to media outlets that systematically promote intolerance, xenophobia, racism and other forms of discrimination towards migrants, in full respect for the freedom of the media”

What no-one seems to realise is that Jacinda has built a very convincing persona of a nice, kind-hearted person who absolutely doesn’t want to be leader but out of a sense of duty has reluctantly stepped into the role.
Yet this is someone who boasted about her work with Tony Blair, who rose to be world president of young socialists, who cleverly positioned herself as the ‘pretty face’ so that when her unappealing colleagues kept falling back in the polls, bravely put on her red lipstick and stepped into the fray.
Crap. I think this is a very ambitious woman who has got exactly where she aimed to be through strategy and calculated shrewdness. She isn’t well educated or qualified for anything but she has rat cunning and has been ruthless in seeing off her competition.
Don’t underestimate her. She will do anything to keep her grasp on power, the money, the limos, the adulation and the global fame.
Kindness? Don’t make me laugh, get in the way of her ambition and you will feel the jackboot on your neck.

        Yes, the quick fix, flog off Tip Top. The NZ dairy industry was gonna move up the value chain, and the NZ consumer market is a cushion against world price swings. But heh, that’s for the long term.
        
        Possible buyers include:
        
        1. A big foreign company. This would do nothing for NZ’s balance of payments deficits and it would prove we can’t even successfully manufacture our own raw materials.
        
        2. A private-equity investment company, almost certainly foreign, which would then list Tip Top on the stock exchange and make a profit on the deal.
        
        If the private-equity firm overpriced Tip Top to sharemarket investors, Tip Top would finish on the scrap heap where Feltex and Dick Smith were thrown, but the investment company would still have its profit.
        
        Perhaps if Fonterra were smart, it would itself list Tip Top on the NZ sharemarket. NZ is short of listings, and we have Kiwisaver companies and a national super fund keen for promising companies to invsest in.
        
        This way, Fonterra would take any premium that would go to a private equity firm. It might even retain 51 per cent control and still make as much money as it would by flogging off Tip Top off to a private equity firm or other foreign investor.
        
        The Fonterra co-op would be left with control of a useful downstream processor buffered from overseas milk prices – and still have gained that cash fillip.

  It’s not quite as simple as that though is it. The fleeing drivers almost certainly weren’t doing 160 in a 50 area until the chase started. Most of us have little sympathy if he hits a lamppost. But if he t-bones a relative, you might well question the pursuit policy.
  Maybe they should have a law that says that the owner of a fleeing vehicle gets a mandatory prison term unless they can prove on the balance of probability that they were not driving. Stolen cars would still need to be chased and stopped though IMO.

RNZ ran a nice news item about President Geroge H Bush’s funeral with his son Geroge W giving the eulogy reflecting on a remarkable life and service to his country ( including WW2 shot down as Pilot ) and family.

Noteworthy was the graciousness displayed by the Bush family inviting the current President who has spent a large part of his political career bad mouthing them. Nasty stuff too.
Let’s see if this has a rub on effect on the hardboiled guy!

The locally owned Otago Daily Times has been a standout in the slide of NZ’s print media into Left-wing mediocrity.

But an episode of the Tinker, Tailor column in today’s edition of the ODT disappoints.

Jean Balchin, an English-department student at Otago University, chastises Nelsonians who were unhappy to see not a traditional Santa Claus, but rather a Maori version, near-bare chested with some device on a stick that looked like a cross between an Anglican crozier.

Balchin lashes Don Brash and other cheeky whities who have expressed preference for a traditional European Santa Claus.

The footnote says that Balchin has won a Rhodes scholarship to Oxford. Presumably these scholarships are still financed by the money bequeathed by Rhodes from the fortune he made plundering colonial Africa.

Balchin will be able to join other foreign students at Oxford enjoying Rhodes largesse but want statues of the man pulled down at Oxford, and similar heirlooms from Britain’s imperial days destroyed or hidden in storage rooms of museums.

Bloody hypocrites.

Without such imperialists from the age of Rhodes, Otago would not have a university, nor an English language newspaper with as strong a record as the ODT. Instead of white New Zealanders ready to study in Britain, the genes left by pioneers would have survived, but elsewhere – in the hammered working classes of Britain.

Their speech crime prosecutions are up 900% year on year. Meanwhile only 9% of actual crime reaches a prosecution. Of those only a tiny fraction are successful. They are actually burying stories about the acid attacks and murders in London in Google search results. Taxpayers are shelling out for prisoners to get sex changes. Their illegal immigration is at 78,000 per year. When they’re an Island. It’s all coming in from Calais so it must be a deliberate policy because there is only one tunnel and a huge amount of rugged easily defended coast-line. There are videos of white kids being roped up by the neck in class rooms and made to bow to Islam to ‘experience colonialism’. At the same time they’re allowing 35 year olds to pretend they are 14 and have relationships with 14 year old British girls in schools. An actual muslim refugee who might be worthy – a girl who ‘insulted the prophet’ because she drank out of the wrong fountain and is subject to the death penalty, is being refused Asylum. Because the local muslims willl kill her any anyone who tries to help her. It ends with a story where an ‘Asian’ journalist does a story about British communities and their teeming mosques.

Homelessness of non-migrants is up double digits for 7 straight years. They’re going to sign the UN Global Migration Compact meanwhile. Brexit is not going to happen. The horrifically bad deal that May offered up will be rejected. It goes to the Commons. Labour have already said they will pull out. Britain is not going to be allowed to leave the EU. Police are being chronically underfunded so pedophiles will receive cautions instead of prison. And it is racist to depict white fathers in advertisements so now officially all couples on the television are mixed race in England.

Yeah I won’t even say anything unpleasant. I guess I just hope that the English decide they want to exist before they don’t anymore.
