So HdPA thinks it’s Hats Off to Ardern and Peters for their performance over the past year because, wait for it, ”making this arrangement work for the past 12 months”. Well, this ‘arrangement’ hasn’t worked for me. Call me old fashioned, but I demand a leadership that doesn’t:

☒ Claim to be the most transparent in our history, but be formed on the basis of a secret coalition agreement

☒ Involve the destruction of an entire industry so our PM can look good to UN environmental chiefs

☒ Stoke inflation and poverty via new taxes when no new taxes were promised

☒ Invite more strikes and industrial disruption in one year than New Zealand has seen in the past decade

☒ Parade a baby to our tabloid trash media

☒ Continuously lie to us

No, this isn’t leadership. It is a Mexican standoff. Peters is a sly snake, and Ardern is a petulant child, one that can hardly be expected to run a country when she can’t run a breast pump. We deserve better.

    The media need to come to winz office I work on a Monday, Thursday or Friday especially. We’re hitting a total of 400 appointments a day on these days. Main benefits have increased, family tax credits, accomodation. I’m seeing benefits regularly totalling $1000 a week with single and joint benefits with 3 plus children. Hell, if I went on benefit with my one child, given the rent I pay I’d get $800 in my hand.
    
    Yet with all this extra cash to meet their “expenses” those with strong sense of entitlement, want more food, are in rent arrears, are having their power cut off.
    
    I’d like to say this government doesn’t have a clue…sadly, I think they know exactly what they are doing.

    The Minister of Immigration has “absolute discretion” to prevent deportation and grant residence – legally, such decisions cannot be applied for, the minister doesn’t have to consider any requests, and doesn’t need to explain their reasons.
    
    In 2011, Sroubek was arrested in Operation Ark, a covert investigation into Ecstasy-like pills, less than a week after his trial for entering New Zealand on a false passport.
    
    He later had a conviction for manufacturing Class-C drugs overturned; Sroubek was to stand trial again on an alternative charge of possession for supply, but the prosecution was abandoned.
    
    Sroubek also had gang associations, and was acquitted of an aggravated robbery with two Hells Angels.
    Karel Sroubek fled to New Zealand with a friend’s passport in 2003. He claimed he was on the run from corrupt cops after witnessing a murder. Under the name Jan Antolik he built a new life as a businessman, a representative-level kickboxer, and a Hells Angels associate.

    @ JibberJabber it’s a mind boggling radical move to grant residency while this recidivist offender is currently locked up for serious crime. A sort of ultimate protection for him as well condoning such things as a visitor in the country. It does however sit well with Angry Andy who wants to go soft on drugs and criminals getting a sort of two for one. It also seems the old dragon Clark is all for a much more liberal attitude to drugs judging from a recent puff piece. Few still appreciate how much damage the COL can inflict on the country and the people of NZ or ever imagined it would be almost across the board.

Seems many people want to immigrate to New Zealand. So why not actually encourage the already educated to come and at the same time encourage paying overseas students to enrol and become citizens. That would mean fewer student loans, more fee payers, fewer grads off overseas (assuming most of the new citizens stay and don’t end up flipping burgers). Win win for the taxpayer.

  Young foreigners, overwhelmingly Indians, pour in and take dubious courses in business subjects, which gives them a visa. Then they work in a pizza parlour or pump petrol until they can jobs like door-to-door electricity company sales, or real estate agent or running a dairy. All semi-skilled work.
  
  At this stage they import a wife, and perhaps mum and dad and siblings.
  
  An IT teacher at a private school tells me that virtually none of his Indian “IT students” plan to work in IT in NZ – or anywhere-else. They are here because it’s a way into NZ residency and then citizenship.
  
  The visa-rort students add bugger all to the national skills pool, and they are going to be the end of New Zealanders’ visa-free entry to Australia.

A central feature is definitely Pro President Trump and what he represents. Other hallmarks are Islamophobia, White nationalism and identity ( the older and more familiar racism and associated bigotry ), climate denialism and an all-pervading anti-intellectualism and so on. Of course, there are varying extremes e.g the creation of a white ethnostate that excludes all religious and racial undesirables ( e.g Muslim and in some cases Jews )

  If you were writing for an academic paper or something, that definition would be workable.
  
  In everyday political discussions however, “alt-” is now basically just being used as a prefix (applied to both sides) equivalent to “extreme-” or “radical-“. People will quite happily label positions they disagree with as alt-left or alt-right as a way of de-legitimising them.
  
  Call it a misuse of the term if you like, but it is now far more common than the original meaning.

I’ve just read the investigation on the leak.

Some interesting points.

Is reporter A the aggrieved journalist JLR slept with? JLR was communicating with a different journalist, reporter B. Reporter A is the person with the information in the beginning. JLR is never contacting reporter A.

Paula has the number of the leaker but it is not JLR’s number that’s examined by the report. His number does show contact with the speaker as phone calls. That is not however the relevant contact with the speaker as that was from a different number, and texts.

JLR definately looks guilty but the report makes an important point. They did not identify the leaker.

Who is the leaker?
If JLR is the leaker then sacking had justification. Why then did they resort to the character assasination?

Why the secrecy by Mallard?
Once this got nasty the issue should have been clarified. The other suspects such as the female MP should not have suspicion pointed at them if Mallard knows it was JLR.

Mrs kk and I have had some friends visiting from Spain. They were explaining, in non-legal terms, about the squatters laws over there.

Apparently if you go on holiday leaving your house vacant, anyone who breaks in can begin living there legally, and remain after your return. It can take months in the legal system to get the squatters out.

The law was introduced when the socialist government started building and virtually gifting homes to citizens in the 1990s. I guess the idea is that your home really belongs to the state (they paid for it), so if you’re not using it, someone else is entitled to it.

Lie down with socialism, wake up with squatters!

  For the last few years squatting in residential properties has been a crime, and sounds like the incidence has dropped sharply. Doesn’t apply to non residential property. Couple of recent cases in the series of egregious vandalism and totally entitled toerags.
  
  Interesting thing is how difficult it is to evict in the UK, if these programmes are typical. Thousands of dollars in court fees and enforcement, and no show of recovering the other thousands of dollars for unpaid rent and damage.
  
  Note the number of landlords, tenants and debtors who are clearly immigrants and/or solo parents.
  
  The Tenancy Tribunal here is by no means perfect but it is at least cheap to get a decision. Collecting the debts, not so cheap if even possible.

  A treaty is generally defined as “a formally concluded and ratified agreement between States.” [OED]
  1.Well, whilst Britain was certainly a State in 1840, New Zealand was not: there was no sovereign government, no agreed Head of State, and no mechanism of statehood. Instead, there were many tribes, constantly at each others’ throats, none ceding authority to any another. That’s why the chiefs all had to sign the document.
  2. An agreement is defined as “a mutual understanding, and harmony of opinion.” [OED] There are at least two versions of the Treaty of Waitangi, Maori and English, and they say different things; there is still no agreement as to which version is correct.
  3. The Treaty of Waitangi has never been ratified by any government.
  4. Similarly, it has never formed part of New Zealand’s domestic law. The closest it gets is through reference in other legislation, to “the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi”, even though those are undefined.
  It follows that the Treaty of Waitangi is, at best, a legal nullity and, at worst, a nonsense. It is the greatest confidence trick ever perpetrated against the people of this country. Maori, and their non-Maori sympathetic fellow-travellers, naturally ignore these uncomfortable truths. After all, there wouldn’t be any money in it for them, would there?
  And don’t get me started on the myth that Maori ‘owned’ this land before the Europeans (and civilisation) arrived …..

    The English knew exactly what was written in the English version. The Moari version is subject to translation errors, errors due to words having different meanings for different tribes, and the language having no official meaning to words.
    Today’s defined meaning to words and phrases may not be the same as the interpretation of those in 1840.
    
    We can be assured however that the treaty was discussed in depth by those who signed it at the time. Interpreters from both sides would have noticed any differences if they existed. They did not notice any.

      My point exactly: the various interpretations of words, particularly relating to sovereignty, have been adjusted, post hoc, to suit the Maori separatists.
      What also needs to be remembered is that in 1840, the Enlightenment was still fresh in Victorian minds; indeed John Stuart Mill was still active in the field. A key part of this was the notional ‘social contract’, whereby the idea of ‘ownership’ was closely defined and, always, subject to the overriding authority of the State. So the claim by present-day (part-) Maori that they never ceded sovereignty to the Crown, is pure sophistry.

Who, you ask ??
The uninformed and flowery scribes who purport to report on Rugby Tests and other top kevel games, in particular.
From my enquiries, not one of them has any back ground in the game, and their commentary, pre and post-match , comprises idiotic buzz words and phrases. Ex international players writing under their own names, excluded.
The idiotic run of the mill writers are notable, for example (but not limited to), the frequent use of the following:
“The chalk or the whitewash”, when they should simply refer to the side-line or the goal line.
“The second stanza” when they mean second half or 40.
“Reserves” when they mean substitutes
“The pine” when substitutes sit on a padded metal bench or chairs set beneath curved Perspex weather protection
“Relegated to the bench”, when rugby in the 2000s has become a 23-man game.
Then there are other issues, like commentators who use nick names time after time. Personally, I don’t know a rugby player (ex or current) named “sumo”, or “marshie”, or JK, TJ (not Perenara), and so on. When the 2011 Rugby World Cup was held in NZ the commentators were told to use names not idiotic nicknames.
And then there is the tendency to over-react and jump to either bias or a pre-ejaculated conclusion,
Australians are worst for commentator bias and being blind; the New Zealand folk are the over re-acting mob. Add to that their crazy hind-sight criticism of referees.
But will they change? Unlikely.
Oh for a return to the days of T P McLean et al. Come back TP. 🙂

Scary stuff.

      By the time you and I get to ‘see’ any politician on the national stage, they have already demonstrated, however well disguised, a lust for power. Having attained national office does not satiate that lust. For those who’ve never had successful private-sector careers that means the only way for self-promotion is upwards to the UN or some other pan-national body. This is why (mainly) Labour leaders flaunt their ‘credentials’ to the UN, using our money as their platform.

        The freedom to leave safely and equitably from the relationship.
        The freedom to make mistakes.
        
        There are some women who can not be in a relationship without being dominate.
        There are some women who are quite happy to be looked after with the male being dominate.
        
        As long as abuse isn’t used to impose that dominance then the person still has freedom. The Christian doctrine of marriage to death is not strictly freedom either.
        
        The woman may fall in love with the person not the religion.
        
        The danger however of religion is its followers seek to impose its doctrine on everybody. That’s not freedom.
        Once a critical mass is reached the people who do use religion to dominate, and abuse, becomes more commen and freedom is lost.
        
        Polygamist marriage cultures always result in large numbers of reject men. Hence single male refugees. Large groups of sexless males is always dangerous.
        
        The good thing for NZ is most young females are raised without religion and understand it’s stupidity. They won’t be easily fooled by it. The result will be these young men forming into self isolating communities that are near lawless. As has occured in Europe.

    Shared equity means actual dosh has to come from somewhere for the bit not supplied by the homeowners. Because the developers expect to be paid and in respect of Kiwibuild have some sort of undertaking from Mr Twyford.
    
    So does Mr Robertson borrow more, pay interest on it and add that interest to the principal amount to be repaid one day by the homeowners? That will be a shock to them. Or is it a taxpayer subsidy. Enquiring minds ….

  If you’re registered for GST no big deal. The admin of of a system with GST levied individually is a legal, commercial and govt nightmare. Our present system is as good as it gets worldwide. Taxes need to be certain and economical to collect.

    Easy to administer if there is no GST added to ACC for anyone. If you are not registered for GST, as in the case of many small businesses, you can’t get it back. Most other countries do not add sales taxes to their taxes, but we seem to believe it’s too hard for us not too. Note there are other items where not GST is charged – gift vouchers and gold/silver. Of the many other allegations against Cosby, the earliest date claimed was December 1965; Kristina Ruehli accused Cosby of drugging and assaulting her in his Beverly Hills home during that time. Ruehli alleged that at the time, she told her boyfriend about the incident, and also claimed that she later told her daughter about the alleged encounter in the 1980s. However, she did not speak about it in public until 2005, when she came forward in the Andrea Constand case as Jane Doe #12.

In the early 1980s, Joan Tarshis told freelance reporter John Milward about alleged sexual assault by Cosby. Milward did not write about the allegations. In 1996, Playboy Playmate Victoria Valentino gave a videotaped interview in which she made sexual assault allegations against Cosby. The interview was conducted for an exposé on the lives of Playboy models, which was never published.

After the allegations resurfaced in 2014, Wendy Williams recalled that during her radio show in 1990, she made a reference to sexual assault allegations against Cosby that had been published in the National Enquirer. Williams said Cosby called her boss in the middle of the radio broadcast demanding that Williams be fired.

Constand woke up at about 4 a.m. with her clothes and underwear in disarray, according to the lawsuit. Cosby allegedly greeted her in his bathrobe before she left his house.

Saturday 20th October – Jami-Lee Ross is back in Auckland, but he is homeless. He has slept in his car and hasn’t slept much over the past week. He phones me at approximately 8:30 pm and he is distraught. We had a good and lucid discussion. However, as he sat there in his car he began scrolling through his past messages and he came across the nasty text from the female MP. It set him off. At 8:51 pm he texts her and then turns his cell phone off. She frantically tries to respond via text and makes 4 phone calls to him. He turns his phone on and off over the next three hours.

      Messages of suicide intent are common with Borderline Personality Disorder. It’s the main reason why men suicide but females are found attempting or self harming. Females are far more likely than men to have BPD.

He may be doing the right thing by ensuring the available finances are hers to support the kids until whatever is happening is finalised. That’s very common behavour by men. If she has gone on the DPB none of his CS money goes to her or the kids anyway, otherwise by consent and covering his mortgage.
        
        Child Support at 24% of pre tax income does leave many men in financial ruin. The day she applies for the DPB, child support automatically starts so yes he could be already paying. Men with commitments that they find they can no longer meet do face ruin. She is also very likely to get a 50% plus ruling with matrimonial assets.

        He never begrudges paying his family support as well as helping out with extras when asked and needed, regardless that he’s not been able to have his son over night. I appreciate more than you realise how difficult it can be on a father who does not have an amicable agreement with his ex.
        
        Given the kind of man my son is, he has family and friends he knows he can lean on. And at Christmas, we watch him for bouts of depression.
        
        Point is, JLR does not seem to have anyone he feels close to lean on. And I believe that lies almost solely at his door.

Having failed to destroy the career of the Leader of the Opposition, the hyenas will have to make do by dragging a female MP’s name through the mud, for being upset that JLR outed her on the radio, and only the legal team at said radio stopped her being branded a whore.

  Who is the leaker?
  
  All of JLR calls match the actions of the senior whip attempting to find out who the leaker is, just as much as it could be him. It was his job to make those calls. He was never in contact with reporter A, intimately involved in the leak.
  
  Mallard knows who the leaker is.
  If it’s not JLR and Mallard leaks it to the media just prior to the election, Simon and National will get destroyed.
  
  Who is the leaker?
  JLR denies it was him. He has the right to be believed.
  Even a crazy woman who cliams rape must be believed. Her cliam must be investigated with an open, without prejudice mind. Understanding that saying you lied because of your condition allows unjust results.

      Obviously the order of outing each other is well established.
      
      The important points are they found no proof of who the leaker is. JLR however appears to be that person and none of those people called are talking.
      
      The important point is JLR was never contacting reporter A, only reporter B. The leaker was contacting reporter A.
      
      Why would JLR annonamously text the speaker then phone the speaker? Was this an honest call asking who the leaker was.
      Why was the police calls being made? And so many.
      What role as whip was he doing that is being confused as him being the leaker. The calls may be a misinterpretation of what was happening.
      
      We’re calls to reporter B based on a relationship or about events taking place.
      
      While on the balance of probabilities has been met, beyond reasonable doubt has not. There is too many unanswered questions. Circumstantial evidence is dangerous on its own.
      
      The speakers phone calls and texts are not examined. Was there a seperate call made from the leakers phone so Mallard got the identity that way.

      Agian the real danger for National is if JLR is not the leaker. This must be answered 100%. It clears the decks so National can go into the election without baggage. On the very slim chance it’s not JLR it would make this whole event look obscene and evil by Nationals leadership.
      
      I don’t want the left in government, just like most of you. This saga needs to end and proving who the leaker is, is the key to that happening.
      
      JLR says he didn’t do it.
      We need him to man up and confess.
      Or we are told by the police or Mallard that it was him.

      Talk to your accountant but I can’t see why you would be better off and a trust does give you a little protection for the assets in the medium term….. In my non advisory opinion 😉

      If you’re happy to pay them 100k and they elect to take kiwisaver, then pay $96K ish plus the 4% employers contribution. Total cost to you approx $100K.

        Rent on the workers parking space?
        
        You offer what the market decides will get the employee you want to hire. If that’s not financially viable then your doing something wrong. Benefits are often more than just salary.
        
        A boss may save 4% as you expressed but result in a 10% less efficient worker accepting the offer. The good one took a $100,000 offer plus KiwiSaver.

        Right Tall Man that is like the same process being used in Australia. In ignorance that turned out to be the basis of the first real job I got over there. Moved to a better position after an approach from another much better position with a better salary, plus super payments, a bigger percentage company contribution and two increases in the first year. They were for firstly an increase due with the old employer and being an American aligned annual January review. All put together by the new boss who quickly showed me what a raw deal I had that I had thought was pretty good.
        It might be the cynic in me but it looks like Cullen intends Kiwisaver to become the alternative for their dodgy super scheme they had back in the 80’s. Signaled before the election planning to use it to shore up the exchange rate as well as a supplementary funds piggy bank. Now they are talking about increased employer contributions along with some other tampering.

  If you can be bothered, and I see it’s for dependents so DJ’s comments are pointless, form the company and have the trust owning the company but the company “managing” the rentals for a fee.
  
  That allows you to have some flexibility with the income distribution, if you follow my drift.
  
  Your accountant will be very familiar with your situation and can adapt as required.

      For the women more kids can mean more money. It can also be a motive to have a kid every 5 years so they don’t force them into work.
      
      For the men once you have one kid your paying child support for, things can get difficult. Two kids or more and they can feel completely screwed and give up. There is little or no incentive to work especially in the low to middle income groups. Once in that state of mind you might as well have dozens of kids as it makes no difference to the situation.
      
      It starts a cycle where the kids are created, not by the motive, consent, and ability to be good parents. Outcomes with kids drop considerably and the incentive of free money compared to working for similar money becomes cancerous.

        Some good news I have heard about Labour policies that will help homelessness.
        Apparently they no longer automatically evict tenants of a HNZ house when the tenant whose name is on the tenancy agreement dies.
        Previously they not only had to struggle with grief, but also find a private rental, change schools, come up with bonds, etc etc.
        Believe me, all the astronomical costs of this upheaval would have ended up being largely carried by the tax payers.

Concerning the change to the eviction rules for state house tenants:

Can you explain please how that is fair?

The idea of low cost government-assisted housing was to give a hand up and to provide a temporary easing of rental costs while the residents got themselves together.

It was NOT to provide a permanent ‘Forever after’ residence for the inhabitants, but if it buys votes (For Labour) why not?

A flow on effect is, of course, a depletion of an already scarce commodity: A State house.

To me, that seems manifestly unfair to those who have abided by the rules, and know that their housing is only temporary, but since you evidntly approve of the decision, could you please explain why you hold that view?

  Eventually the houses will be passed on to other families.
  At least the state still owns them, unlike when National was selling them off.
  Obviously most people on Kiwi blog have enough know-how to buy a home of their own home.

    I note that you believe that ‘…Eventually the houses will be passed on to other families’. Unfortunately, not from now on. When Grandma dies, the daughter (for example) gets the house and stays there until she in turn dies etc. etc. etc.
    
    By removing the ‘Atomatic termination of tenancy’ clause, a ‘dynistical’ situation has been unintentionally created, and there is now absolutely NO way a family can be removed from a state dweĺling! The residents may still be tenants, but since, as we know, budgets can be arranged to acomodate such costs, the tenant, by making said adjustment and now paying a relative pittance (when compared to the ‘real’ world), are now living the ‘Life of Riley’, in what is essentially their own house, secure in the knowledge that, as long as one descendant of Grandma (the otiginal tenant) is still alive and on site, they can’t be removed!
    
    On that basis, and with rent likely to be considerably less than a mortgage, all and any ‘incentive’ to leave is removed; why should they, they would actually be WORSE off by doing-so.
    
    Certainly the house cannot be sold (although no doubt some will try), but it can be sublet and extra income gained ( and no doubt THAT will also be tried).
    
    As with many of the COL’s decisions, the future consequences do not seem to have been considered…

      Brought in for wonderful humanitarian reasons.
      Within a generation every gang member is using it to supplement their lifestyle.
      Don’t think they can sublet though.
      I definitely don’t like to see entitled dorks demanding the right to be cheaply accomodated on the taxpayers.
      We obviously have to teach the general population about such concepts as the work ethic and buying a home etc.

Tremendous news: According to Guardian Climate Change Columnist Dana Nuccitelli, the Guardian has decided to “discontinue” its science and environment blogging networks, a policy shift which seems to involve a significant cut to their climate change blogging.

I guess there’s only so long one can make shit up, publish it, and expect to create revenue from it. Perhaps the Guardian’s shift to ~~subscriptions~~ begging for money has helped sharpen their focus.

I NEVER KNEW THIS:

Did you know “listen” & “silent” use the same letters? Do you also know that the words race car spelled backwards still spells “race car?” And that “eat” is the only word that if you take the first letter & move it to the last, it spells its past tense “ate?” And have you noticed that if you rearrange the letters in “Manus refugees” & add just a few more letters, it spells: “Go home you free-loading, benefit-grabbing, resource-sucking, baby-making, non-English-speaking arseholes & take those other hairy-faced, sandal-wearing, bomb-making, camel-riding, goat-shagging bastards with you.”

How weird is that? English really is a strange language, isn’t it?

  The Treaty Negotiations Minister is confident in a new model to move the Ngāpuhi Treaty settlement forward, despite at least eight hapū rejecting it. The model would involve the Crown negotiating cultural redress for Treaty breaches with six regional hapū groupings, while the commercial redress would be negotiated with one group and the settlement held by a single entity.

      You’d probably find yourself under intense scrutiny Maggy. A more fractured tribe than Ngapuhi would be hard to find & inter-hapu relationships are not always happy ones. They watch each other’s actions carefully.
      
      Last year sometime, the Northern Advocate ran an article that instanced a case of three hapu who couldn’t even decide on who would represent them over a substantial payout.
      
      It was to do with JNL’s purchase of the 90 Mile Beach forestry rights 30 odd years ago!

        Simple mathematics (and logic) would suggest that a substantial payout is better than no payout, and that a 1/3 share of a substantial payout is better than no payout. But I guess when you’ve been colonised by European settlers, and then stiffed by other members of your own Ngapuhi clan, it’s hard to see the way forward!
