Just setting aside the fact that JML is a scumbag and this entire affair is a Trainwreck on fire, crashing into an animal Hospital, I think this is good for NZ.
It’s actually shining a spotlight on the fact that National is in bed with the Chinese and has been for a while.

You can stone me for it. But where there is smoke there is fire, and I’m not the only one who has been pointing this out for a few years now.

      Yes, the NZ bourgeoisie is small beer, compared with the CCP. National and Labour are in way over their heads, dealing with China. When the SIS reports on the raid on Anne-Marie Brady’s flat, and finds that Chinese agents were responsible, how many options are going to be available to either our government or our opposition? Both are compromised by Chinese money, and afraid of what Chinese sanctions could do the economy. Our sovereignty is evaporating, in much the same way that of supposedly weaker states like Tonga, Fiji, and Sri Lanka has been disappearing.

      If I, as an engineer, am given money by a company making components that I might design in to something, I would be fired for taking bribes.
      
      That holds for most people.
      
      But somehow doctors get to go on “free” medical conferences and politicians accept “donations”.
      
      These buggers work for US. We pay them. They need to pull their heads in and work for the people that pay them – not the people that give them “donations”.

        There’s no need for the millions of dollars of advertising campaigns.
        
        These days there there’s no need to fly everywhere before an election. Just get the local candidate to go around a few halls etc and talk to the people.
        
        These day’s there’s even the internet & skype. Easy enough for a party leader to have a one-on-one with a hall full of voters.

    As someone said here yesterday, there needs to be a Royal Commission into Chinese interference in NZ politics.
    
    The links between NZ universities and schools and China need to be examined, because evidence suggests all sorts of dodginess there. The Confucius Institutes need to be investigated, because of their control by the CCP and history of harassing students in other nations. And the Chinese agents who are now openly interfering with the dissident community in Auckland – by filming and harassing Falun Gong protesters at the city’s shopping centres and markets, for example – need to be reined in.

  Whatever donations our parties may or may not receive from rich business men pales compared to the US.
  We have laws governing transparency around large donations. Political parties play fast and loose with the rules at their peril. There is always the risk that some disgruntled insider will spill the beans, even if everything is kosher.

    If there’s a “huge natural advantage” then why was the new world record beaten only ten minutes later by a natal woman?
    
    This came up a lot when Laurel Hubbard was in the news. But I remember looking up her performance out of curiosity and her 275 kg total is only 79% of the world record 348 kg total (set by a Russian lady in 2014).
    
    If there’s an overwhelming advantage then I’m not seeing it.

There are sexually dimorphic musculo-skeletal differences that develop in bodies grown from conception that are a portion of that difference.       Yes, chromosome testing started in the Olympic games in 1968 for that reason. It ended in 1996.

    There was a Tennis player in the 1970’s Renee Walker I think was the name. Did the full transition. Was in the high 3-400’s as a male player and reached a high of 2oth on the female list. Was a finalist in the US Open mixed doubles playing with Ilie Nastase. Later coached successfully and later was of the opinion that what she did gave her an unfair advantage.

    She’s AIS, that is a biological male with Androgen Insensitivity syndrome. Those with CAIS (C = complete) develop almost identically with biological females complete with all the external “bits” but have of course no uterus or ovaries and internal testes. As they won’t ever menstruate they are often identified when that becomes an issue.
    
    AIS exists on a spectrum from CAIS which looks female though typically they are taller on average and don’t develop body hair much (part of the Androgen insensitivity effect) to degrees of AIS that are nearly female to nearly male with all shades in between.
    
    It is a genetic defect. There have been several competitors at the Olympics and at various levels who have been CAIS and competed as women including one who I understand didn’t actually know that she was actually biologically male until after finishing competing.
    
    I know a little about it because I knew a person who suffered from this in the CAIS form. She was apparently fairly well adjusted living as a woman which I understand that not all achieve..

Was it really only two weeks ago that Paul Bennett was on the radio and telly calling on the media and the public to give him space to deal with his health problems?

That escalated quickly… I wonder if he’ll take them to employment court for workplace bullying? I doubt that will be an acceptable defence for the defamation suit from hell that’s about to be unleashed…

It’s interesting to see the US Democrats return to their old ‘one drop rule’ with Elizabeth Warren claiming Native American lineage.

Of course, it’s not even conclusive that the miniscule “non-white” amount in her DNA is even Native American, as it could have come from elsewhere in the Americas. Not to mention that the Cherokee Nation has said she’s not Cherokee (her original claim).

Back to Mr Ross…I heard on Nat Rad last night that he had driven from Auckland to Wellington on Sunday night…that’s a 7 or 8 hour drive, depending on your ability and willingness to speed. Why on earth would an MP do that, when he can quite literally show his travel card and jump on a plane any time?

To me, this is further pretty clear evidence that he is in the throes of an acute mental episode, and has nowhere near recovered from the self confessed “mental breakdown” he suffered a couple of weeks ago.

As I said yesterday, his appearance at the extraordinary media stand up yesterday was of a man on major tranquilizers (that is a category way more powerful than valium and its cousins). I really do hope this guy has someone looking out for him. If not, he could easily become the political suicide Karl du Fresne and I believe the media would love to happen.

    cmm: No offence, but you obviously have little understanding of mental illnesses. I had a major breakdown in 1978 which took more than a year to recover from. But having done so, I was able to go back into the oilfield with some considerable success, and then earn two degrees in the late 80’s, from one of the real universities (former polytechs are not “universities” but I digress). I had another major episode in 2004, but recovered from that very quickly after a medication change.
    
    I think most unbiased commenters would agree that while I was certainly not a member of the herd, I performed perfectly competently as an MP from 2008 until the flameout in 2010.
    
    The point I am making is that a person suffering from periodic episodes or even chronic non psychotic mental illness can function quite well and appear totally “normal”…at least within the realms of what the psychiatric profession regards as within the bounds of normality.
    
    But here’s the But…. driving to Wellington for 7 or 8 hours when one can catch a plane which will get you there in 45 minutes is a classic symptom of mania. I would lay dollars to donuts he was heavily drugged up at the stand up yesterday, and hadn’t slept since he got to Wellington.
    
    Lastly, while I think the man is a wanker with serious character flaws, I will be devastated if he did take his own life. That is a terrible thing.

      Edit: I have just been advised that Ross’s drive to Wellington may have been so he could avoid the media staking out the airport thus maintaining the element of surprise. I’m still not convinced: if you wanted to evade the bastards a drive to Hamilton or Tauranga and a flight from there would have done the trick.

      DG: Unfortunately having grown up with a bi-polar mother who spent 50%+ of my childhood in hospital I am all too familiar with manic behaviour and he certainly has signs of those.
      
      Not all mental illnesses are the same.
      Depression etc is a completely different matter to, manic/narcissistic/delusions of grandeur behaviour and the ability to function as an MP or part of a team, handle stress etc is very different.
      
      Hence, IMHO, some mental conditions should prevent you from taking office while others should not (just as some physical conditions should prevent you from being a soldier or a fire fighter but others should not).
      
      I don’t know JLR at all but it is still hard for me to believe that a manic/narcissist style person (as he would appear to be) would appear to be “normal” for 10 years or so.
      
      Was this really his first “flame out”? No signs on the wall?

        Having lived with a bi-polar mother you clearly have a great deal more knowledge of mental illnesses than Joe or Jane Average.
        
        And I think what you say is right on the differences in mental illnesses and those which should and should not disqualify one from various jobs. Then again it’s always worth reflecting that according to those who were there – such as my good friend Roger Douglas – a generation or two ago it was quite common for polis to be, if not alcoholics, then as near as dammit to one. Roger once told me that one perfectly competent cabinet minister was never seen sober after lunch.
        
        The point? I would rather see someone wilth well controlled chronic depression behind the cabinet table than a habitual drunk.

        If I was to set an acid test it would be this: does the condition lead to anosognosia (lack of insight)? This is where the person’s brain is broken in a way they can’t tell their brain is broken. Thus all those mad people who think they are sane and everyone else is mad.
        
        My mother is in that camp.
        
        These people are very hard to deal with because they don’t see a problem with their behaviour. When you call them out they will feel persecuted and tend to grandstand.
        
        Very different to people with depression who tend to know that’s what they have and seek out help.

      I suspect undiagnosed cyclothymia. JLR looks like he is in a manic phase to me. The behaviour differs from person to person in that bi-polar condition. It can also vary from day to day: short term mood swings can occur in the midst of many year cycles.

  Years ago, while a guest at his Ruatoria retirement ranch, Peter Tapsell related to me the horrific story on how his Sister killed their Mother and then placed the head in a baking dish in the oven.
  His Sister suffered from bi-polar. She had stopped her medicine (injections were not available in country areas) and was out if control – delusional and worse.
  Now I do not suggest that Ross will do anything like that, but the symptons he exhibits are similar to those described by Peter Tapsell.
  For those that do not know, Peter was a fully qualified medical practitioner …. an excellent orthopod (to be more precise) before he became wn MP and later a bloody good Speaker.

    Years ago, I met someone who talked much like flipper writes. He had suffered severe emotional problems after a traumatic encounter with a prominent public figure. Although prescribed strong anti-psychotic medicines and therapy, he still managed to cause a great deal of distress by acting out.
    Now I do not suggest that flipper will do anything like that, but the symptoms he exhibits online are eerily similar to the unfortunate person I met some years ago.
    PS. I’m not a doctor, but I once spoke to one.

    It surely depends on the meds.
    
    My mother is on lithium and tends to decide how much to take on a day to day basis. I can tell if she’s overdoing it even on an international phone call.

I do not know MrRoss’s mental state. I do wish he would hurry up and get his resignation fromParliament. I trust National Party members will do nothing to discourage that. I do hope Paula Bennett keeps fairly quiet. Ross is in a very unstable frame of mind and he could just as easily change his mind about resigning. On his own admission Ross May have broken the law over the donation he is trying to put the blame on Simon Bridges.

      sooty: Absolutely nothing. He has resigned from both the caucus and the party, and he can’t undo that, but he has yet to resign from parliament itself. And from my own experience, doing that is seen – quite rightly – as a very serious step, and you have to dot the i’s and cross the t’s and use exactly the right words before the Speaker’s office will accept the resignation. But once done in the prescribed fashion, that step also is irrevocable.
      
      So, he can’t change his mind on the party stuff, but he absolutely can on whether he resigns as an MP. Given that he is now unemployable, I would suspect Mrs Ross may have a strong view about that…unless she is also delusional, and thinks he will get back in as an independent. He won’t.

      You guys may have missed a trick here. JLR has been a problem for some time; creating dissension in the caucus and being a general all round prick. Bridges would of course known this as he would have guessed JLR was the leaker. So he smoked JLR out by playing it straight down the line; calling for an enquiry and then getting it completed by an independent. He avoided being accused of jumping to conclusions and having to mete out punishment. So he took time over the process (much to the horror of journos baying for blood). So what, the net result is JLR jumping overboard ;and no further action necessary. I congratulate Bridges on following through and getting a perfect result; to hell with the naysayers.
      As to election fraud; I think JLR has proved to have a serious credibility problem.

New York reports that this last weekend was the first in 25 years where there were no gun killings. They appear to be gobsmacked that this could happen.

Lots of black people working here, just glad to have their sometimes first job.

Getting back to reality, I have been told that in a small North Island town engineering and auto related businesses are starting to lay off staff. Apparently the reason given was not entirely due to fuel costs, but to the general lack of confidence out there. I suppose this unease can be laid at the door of the CoL.

I see TVNZ is running a promo for Anika Moa that is basically an attack on National, suggesting it is more acceptable to belong to the Mongrel Mob than the Young Nats (ironic given the Mob would baulk at the molestations at the recent Young Labour camp).

Meanwhile as Simon and the National party go back into battle with the useless pricks of the COL our cost of living is taking the biggest hike ever in over ten years. It’s got nothing to do with all the tax increase’s the COL needs to fill in the fiscal hole of course! 🙂

Simon and Paula are just what the National Party needs to lead them to victory in the 2020 election.
They are youngish, they are brownish, and they won’t take much shit anymore from the sad old forces of backward thinking as shown recently.
Any of you who think that Judith Collins et al has a snowflakes chance in hell with the electorate in 2020 needs to take another toke. 🙂
Simon is just too nice. Hopefully he has learned from this shit. Next time he gets to deal with a turd like Ross he should go for the throat! 🙂

  As I posted before, PriNZess is the Bridget Jones politician. People find her quirky and endearing, but being incompetent is part of the charm.
  
  They chose Bridget Jones over competence.
  
  People have had a gutsful of nice. They want competence.
  
  National have to go in the other direction.
  
  You don’t need to be nice if you fix the petrol price and sort out the other CoL messes.
  
  Perhaps surviving this JLR mess without too big a drycleaning bill will be enough to start convincing people that Bridges has competence. Perhaps not. Time will tell.

  It seems both Slater and Henry Cooke from Stuff have the same script. Both IGNORE the fact that JLR was the one who said its ok to take large sums from multiple donors in a single check. Bridges didn’t ask anything about splitting it.

  Bridges wins more by saying the poor bloke needs some rest than by trying to drag him through the courts.
  
  National needs to get this behind them. It is all a distraction from taking on the real stuff (ie. taking on CoL).
  
  This has allowed the Handley business to go cold. That’s something that can’t be easily warmed up again.
  
  However CoL just keep on giving, so there will likely be more opportunities next week.

Fuck me…I have just listened to the “explosive” tape…calling it a damp squib is woefully inadequate…If that’s all he’s got, JLR is completely fucked…Bridges should probably sue him.

And as for the “scandal” of Bridges calling one of his MP’s “fucking useless”…you must be joking…Rodney and I had far more colourful conversations than that about the blonde bimbo and her … advisor…

  If Ross things this is a smoking gun he needs to get out from behind his desk more. Basically Bridges is saying he wants to talk to Goodfellow about how to use the donation (attack ads etc). How is this ‘corrupt’ ?
  What does come through clearly is Ross trying to lead Bridges to say something incriminating, but Bridges ain’t biting.

The concept compares Democrats to “nonplayable characters,” or NPCs – the recurring characters in video games with repetitive lines and limited knowledge. Lack of an “inner voice” is a dead giveaway that someone may be an NPC.

The NPC meme essentially meant to ridicule the post-election perpetual outrage culture in which liberals simply parrot the latest talking points from their favorite pundits, who do their thinking for them.
