Early next year we’ll have Jordan Peterson speaking here in NZ. I’m guessing the leftie media will be working overtime to manufacture outrage at the temerity of this university professor – one of their own – who dares to challenge PC’isms, identity politics & gender warfare

He has a track record of demolishing aggressive interviewers and leaving them looking more than a little silly time, and time, and time again. His response to incessant attacks of being “a mean white man” in front of a large audience was legendry.

So my question is this: who will be brave enough to attack interview him, on camera, in New Zealand? Most of our MSM’s lefties will get politely, but systematically shredded if they go after him.

So who will be game enough?

  Well, krazykiwi, after seeing Patrick Gower’s latest lame attempt at ‘look at me’ virtue signalling’- his apology for having mispronounced Maori in the past- I am sure that he will consider himself up to the mark. After all, he did such a great job in his laughably pitiful attempt at interviewing Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux.
  
  The tragedy of the current state of political journalism in NZ is that someone as intellectually lazy and shallow at Patrick Gower was a moderator in a debate between the leaders of our major political parties leading up to the last election. What does this say about our country, its journalistic standards and the value it places on intellectual rigour and talent?

Business and industry, displaying some lack of confidence in Government, likely look at two dominant factors now in relation to the present Government …
1 – the decisions made by working groups or committees because, even before the Election, Labour shoved the water tax sideways and have been pulling the same trick ever since – using tax-payer funding to provide party policy for Labour politicians totally unprepared to govern, and
2 – the decisions made in exactly the opposite manner: no Cabinet consideration, without due diligence, research and consultation, and for political reasons, including policy horse-trading.

Hansard, yesterday afternoon, in answer to Question No. 2
Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern: As I’ve described to this House many, many times before, the policies of this coalition Government are contained in the confidence and supply agreement, the coalition document, and the Speech from the Throne. All other policies go through a Cabinet process.

Three times, for Question 2 and supplementaries, Ardern gave Bridges that reply, either verbatim or close to it.
Plainly gas exploration and several other decisions didn’t cross her mind.

Until there is a full explanation of why the future of off-shore oil and gas exploration has been trashed and did not go through any working group or consultation, and apparently not through any Cabinet process – until that is adequately explained, why should business and industry have any confidence in Ardern’s Government?

Parliamentary rhetoric may sound fine, but it is not reality.

Wow, 25 new kiwi build homes being celebrated massively on breakfast this morning. For fucks sake, you’d think the fanfare was anouncing 25 thousand homes.
They were initiated by the previous government, but again (!) the coalition of losers are attempting to take the kudos.
Nearly split myself laughing, in that they are not set to be complete till next year !

  Labour said these kiwibuild houses were going to be over and on top of what would have already been made.

Government has to compete with private sector who also want to roll out homes and they can afford to pay.   Well to be fair, farming isn’t what it used to be.
  
  Farmers don’t put up a gate or do fencing any more. They call in a contractor. They don’t shear a sheep. They call in a contractor.
  
  An up to date Young Farmer competition would be 50% on the phone and email working contractors and the prize goes to the person who gets the buggers to show up on time and charge a reasonable rate.

    It is still there to show skills such as fencing, shearing, crutching, ploughing, etc.
    It is not possible to get contractors at a minute’s notice when a steer knocks down a gate or fence and it is a road paddock.
    Would like to see, even a bull dyke, rehang a large wooden gate or put in a strainer post on their own!

    When cows have been dried off over winter, sure we might take a week off, but there are always plenty of gates and fences to be mended. On the coast we manage to fit that in amongst collecting the deer carcasses caused by 1080 drops, this year nearinf 300 and still counting !

    Apologies to anyone who might have felt offended by my comment. That was not the intent.
    
    I come from farming stock on both sides of my family and I have lived in farming areas most of my life, so I know that farmers have to be, and are, both resourceful and practical people.
    
    The main point I was trying to make is that we no longer live in the Footrot Flats era where farmers did all the work on their farms all the time. Farming is, first and foremost, a business and thus organisational skills like sorting out contractors and business acumen are becoming more important and the traditional farming skills like running a fence are less important than they were.

Dear Jacinda

Ok, I know I often take the piss, but this is a genuine letter of caring: one person/parent to another.

We all have our limitations and need to understand where they are and when it is the best to hand over to someone else for the good of everyone. We also need to know we can’t do everything. We have to prioritise. If we don’t do that we let other people down and we don’t achieve the most satisfaction from life.

If wee Neve was to get sick (and I genuinely hope she is a healthy baby), you would no doubt hand her over to medical experts to sort things out. You would not go over to the dressing up corner, put on a nurses uniform, and pretend you know what you are doing. You would not do that because you care for your child and know she is better in someone else’s hands. Just caring is not enough.

Well the economy is starting to look a bit sick. It needs good leadership and a good understanding of economics. Please realise that you are not the right person for that job. Please step aside and let someone else do it. I know you want to care for people, but now is the time to realise the economy is better in someone else’s hands.

The economy is not a game. There seems to be a looming GFC 2.0. These have real negative impacts for many people. I, personally, am probably Ok. I have a paid off house and have skills which are in demand internationally. I can cut my hours by 60% and still get by in relative ease. I grew up in Africa and can get by with less. But others are not in that same boat. For many, a 10% downtick in the economy is enough to push them over the edge. For many, that puts them in a hole that will take them decades to recover from. Some never recover and have debt and traumatic scars for the rest of their lives. That’s not even mentioning the inevitable up-swing we see in suicides, substance abuse, crime and other negative social factors.

Also, a strong economy is key to building a strong society. You need a strong society to be able to care about people and the environment. This is well proven the world over.

I know you want to be a leader as well as be a mum and have it all. Yes, you can have it all, but not at the same time. Think of it like having a main course and desert. You can have them both, but it’s not quite as good trying to eat them both at the same time.

Parenting, if you do it right, is the most rewarding experience of your life. But to do that you need both the time and the energy to engage with your child. I say that even though I have a rich and rewarding professional career too now that my kids are grown. You’re relatively young and have heaps of time to spend a few years as a dedicated mum, then become a dedicated career politician when Neve is older and a bit more independent. In the process you will also learn a lot about life and that will make you a better leader.

Trying to do it all at once is a mess and not going to be as rewarding or as effective in the end.

Oh I do hope Paddy Gower has a go at interviewing Peterson. He made such a brilliant (sarc) job of interviewing Molyneux and Southern, didn’t he? He’s dumb enough to give it a go. It would be great sport to watch. His latest stupidity is his abject apology to Tuhoe for mispronouncing Maori. Is he trying to outdo “I’m sorry for being a man” Cunliffe?

I an watching the current debacle that is the Wellington Public Transport system. An old adage comes to mind.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I don’t think that the country was broken in 2017. It needed a tweak in some areas, but the attempts by the current COL to fix problems that didn’t exist or were overstated is leading to a nationwide analogy of the Wellington Bus Network.

Appalling behaviour by Tracey Martin tonight who has just told parliament that parents wouldn’t even put their dogs inside a Partnership School.

I’ve never had much time for Ms Martin, but the nastiness on display last night has taken away any respect I may have had for her.

      Until the mid 20th c. when Maori moved to the cities their language was not heard. English prevailed for most of the population and has continued as the language of the modern era. Other Pacific nations added and teach English for that reason.

      No. I realize that the some committee in Wellington will have synthesized all the Te Reo terms to be used in technical discussions; however, very few people of engineering competence (sorry, you linguists in Wellington) will be able to bring up those synthetic Maori terms and have the appropriate Maori grammar skills with which to couch them.
      
      I would bet that the number of times the stripping and reassembly of a Ford tractor gearbox has been effectively and precisely discussed to engineering levels of competence in Te Reo is zero.

      It would be far easier to train an engineer to speak Maori than to train an SJW-type female Maori language major to be an engineer.

      Legal technical terms are either old French, Anglo Saxon or Latin terms.
      
      Besides, the legal system would greatly benefit from less legalese and technicalese .

    Interesting question, Odakyu-sen. Years ago, I had a relationship with a young woman whose parents had immigrated to Canada to join relatives. Her cradle tongue was non-English, and she only really became fluent in English when she attended school. At home, the cradle tongue was spoken, and she and her cousins frequently spoke it among themselves. I would have called her bilingual.
    That said, I doubt that she could have negotiated the intricacies of a business contract or the overhaul of water pump in her cradle tongue – largely due to gaps in vocabulary (with her cousins, they would occasionally, and seamlessly, throw in an English word such as “filing cabinet” where there was a gap).
    Would you call her a “speaker of her cradle tongue”?

      I would call her a “young woman,” of who I know few would be able to hold a technical conversation to solve a basic problem unless that had graduated from high school in that language and had an interest in technical matters or a hobby in that area.

        I suspect it’s more than just bringing English words into the vocabulary of their own languages.
        
        In some languages you may be able to call up, say web pages, in the alphabet characters of your own language. Surely this must be the case in China.
        
        But in languages with fewer users I suspect English characters would have to be used.
        
        I would be surprised if you could have a Maori web site name that included macrons, for example.

        Why? When a word gets adopted by a language the pronunciation changes to suit that language’s phonetic base. It is then spelt using the phonetics of that language’s alphabet. In Japanese, I iamgine that they use their phonetic writing system. Not sure what the Chinese do, sorry.
        At least that’s how I assume it works. We do that in English when we steal words from other languages. You don’t need Cyrillic characters to write Moscow or vodka.

    The reference to speaking Maori, was in the context of being fluent in Maori conversation. They voted one woman, who until she went to school was immersed totally in Maori, because that was the first language. Then when she went to school/university (& pursued a degree in physics) she lost her ability to speak Maori.
    
    Today she feels only comfortable speaking to a 5 year old. They didn’t seem to appreciate that the last time she would have been immersed in Maori was when she was 5.

Greenpeace wants govt to use funds for solar panels instead of oil and gas.
Earlier this year the government banned offshore exploration, and Greenpeace said the $88 million used to subsidise it could be used for solar panels and batteries for 1.5 million New Zealand homes over the next ten years.

• The last Labour adopted Greenpeace idea, banning gas and oil exploration, was adopted because Winston traded off support of his waka-jumping bill against it. What is to trade now?

• Petroleum Exploration and Production New Zealand chief executive Cameron Madgwick said in a statement the government provided less than $4 million in government support – and none of that was direct subsidies.
There appears to be no $88 million.

• Solar power if mandated from Cape Reinga to the Bluff is doomed since New Zealand is not alternatively called Aotearoa – Land of the Long White Cloud – for nothing.

• Greenpeace can stick their solar power ideas right where the sun doesn’t shine.

Discussion on RNZ this morning on cancer patients dying because we don’t fund the same drugs as Australia. Well boohoo. Governments make choices. In the case of New Zealand, this is to fund a whole lot of free stuff that people cheered for. Oops no money left for flash cancer drugs.

      That is incorrect. The new cancer drugs that are now in play would benefit hundreds of New Zealanders with cancer. The outcomes for women with breast cancer here are woeful compared to Australia.
      
      I would support an increase in Pharmac funding. My point is that for the government there are clearly more votes in promising free stuff and increases in welfare payments. It is all about choice.

But as a society that is clearly not our priority because we like things like interest free student loans, WFF etc. Opportunity cost is a real thing. Unless you are a RNZ journalist.       I agree with your strong views about RNZ journalists, srylands. Such journalists are not subject to (or seem to recognise, in the main) any commercial imperatives or allocation priorities. They have the ultimate freedom from their employers to pick (even create?) their preferred targets and to stir up / politicize their own pet social causes and personal objectives.
      
      When it comes to funding priorities, why – in this advanced age of technology and all forms of communication – do we still have any public funding of radio and television broadcasting? The substantial taxpayers’ funds employed in propping up the balance sheets of those two broadcasting entities – for zero or negligible financial returns – create a competitive imbalance in the ‘broadcasting market’, as well as safe homes for ‘career journalists with a cause’.
      
      It’s time Government got out of the broadcasting market completely, leaving RNZ and TVNZ’s cloistered reporters to offer their skills to real, competitive news and current affairs outlets.

        When the State got into radio it was expensive and, for the times, high tech.
        
        Now you can set up a tiny radio station for very little cost, and the State continues to fund not only Radio NZ, but also the 20 or so Maori tribal stations. It also subsidises various community radio stations.
        
        TV is being overtaken by online broadcasting, and we don’t need state TV either.
        
        The State should get right out of TV and radio.

    People need to understand that not all foreign languages are like English.
    Many come with a built-in class system (like in the Tongan example). Does an egalitarian society want to embrace the notions that some people are of higher class and MUST be addressed in the proper way?
    
    You speak the language and you also trade in the cultural baggage that comes with that language.

      Maori, Tonga, Samoan, Hawaiian all have at least three dialects. There is a reserved formal one for rank and restricted cultural matters like genealogies or by a Pastor in Church. Another for use by the commoners or less formal occasions and a further “street talk” variant.
      
      Learning can be difficult because the texts give the commoner or a restricted formal version but the people speak another. You have to learn to discern the differences and to change accordingly. While there are rules as to speaking there are hidden subtleties. Let the critics show their mastery.
      In NZ there are tribal variations too.

      “Thee” and “thou” worked in a similar way to similar constructions in many other languages.
      
      If a person called someone above their social status, or acceptable intimacy level, “thee” I imagine it would have been regarded at the very least as rude.

Well things don’t appear to be that great in the Coalition if you believe some of the stories being penned by the media and comments from Winston First. Winston seems to be going flat out to retrieve his older generation voters with stories like it would have been easier to go with National and pulling the plug only hours before Labour were about to annouce new Maori policy. While I agree with his opposition to this policy he is doing it for Winston to draw the people that had fled from him because he didn’t go with National back into the fold because he can see the course Labour are setting and the internal polls are probably not in his favour. So the big question is can Winston survive what he is doing or is this minor rumble heading for a earthquake remembering Winston’s past of lasting the distance is not that great,

  I think the title and start of the article was more in the way of bait for others that have been living under a rock to get them to read his real point.
  Hosking is actually a perceptive guy.
  The only way for a small party that is in government to prosper at the next election is by showing up the main party as incompetent and robbing it of disillusioned voters.
  The only way it can actually do that is to hold together as the polls go south, and show its self more stable than the main party.
  That is the whole point of the Waka jumping bill. With that in place Winston gets to act as a loose canon without the risk of his caucus going against him.
  The ideal situation for Winston (A nightmare for the country) would be Labour on around 33% and NZ1st on 18 and the Greens 4%. Just enough to form a government with Labour.
  How much of its soul would Labour sell in that situation?
  Ideal for Winston, he could call all the shots, but as largest party Labour would get all the blame.

I was busy away from home yesterday so just heard the news on my car radio. One thing I did hear was the accused Labour Youth Camp predator had a couple of charges dropped but there are still four charges and four complainants. The trial is meant to be in March. This should be very interesting.

Sorry it’s a bit long, wife found this on Facebook.
“We didn’t have the green thing then.”
Checking out at the store, the young cashier suggested to the much older lady that she should bring her own grocery bags, because plastic bags are not good for the environment.
The woman apologized to the young girl and explained, “We didn’t have this ‘green thing’ back in my earlier days.”
The young clerk responded, “That’s our problem today. Your generation did not care enough to save our environment for future generations.”
The older lady said that she was right — our generation didn’t have the “green thing” in its day. The older lady went on to explain:
Back then, we returned milk bottles, soda bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But we didn’t have the “green thing” back in our day.
Grocery stores bagged our groceries in brown paper bags that we reused for numerous things. Most memorable besides household garbage bags was the use of brown paper bags as book covers for our school books. This was to ensure that public property (the books provided for our use by the school) was not defaced by our scribblings. Then we were able to personalize our books on the brown paper bags. But, too bad we didn’t do the “green thing” back then.
We walked up stairs because we didn’t have an escalator in every store and office building. We walked to the grocery store and didn’t climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time we had to go two blocks.
But she was right. We didn’t have the “green thing” in our day.
Back then we washed the baby’s diapers because we didn’t have the throw away kind. We dried clothes on a line, not in an energy-gobbling machine burning up 220 volts. Wind and solar power really did dry our clothes back in our early days. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing.
But that young lady is right; we didn’t have the “green thing” back in our day.
Back then we had one TV, or radio, in the house — not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief (remember them?), not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen we blended and stirred by hand because we didn’t have electric machines to do everything for us. When we packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, we used wadded up old newspapers to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, we didn’t fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. We used a push mower that ran on human power. We exercised by working so we didn’t need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.
But she’s right; we didn’t have the “green thing” back then.
We drank from a fountain when we were thirsty instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time we had a drink of water. We refilled writing pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and we replaced the razor blade in a r azor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.
But we didn’t have the “green thing” back then.
Back then, people took the streetcar or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or walked instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service in the family’s $45,000 SUV or van, which cost what a whole house did before the “green thing.” We had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And we didn’t need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 23,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest burger joint.
But isn’t it sad the current generation laments how wasteful we old folks were just because we didn’t have the “green thing” back then?
Please forward this on to another selfish old person who needs a lesson in conservation from a smart ass young person.
We don’t like being old in the first place, so it doesn’t take much to piss us off… Especially from a tattooed, multiple pierced smartass who can’t make change without the cash register telling them how much.

    I’ve never heard this before – race-based limitations on pronunciation? As far as I am aware, if you take a baby of any “race” and raise it in a language community then they can make the sounds of that language. Once we leave childhood, it becomes increasingly difficult to learn to say certain sounds (or distinguish between them), but that’s nothing to do with “race”.
    If that’s not the case, please show me where you came across this information – I’m genuinely curious.

      It’s language week and now we’re getting rhoticity jokes, specifically about Japanese and the letter “r”.
      
      We might reflect that New Zealanders, except for Southlanders, speakers of BBC and UK southern English, and speakers on the north-east coast of the United States don’t pronounce “r”, except before a vowel.
      
      Learn the many languages that demand rhoticity (pronounciation of r) and you have to learn how to pronounce “r” with trilling exercises – “rrrrrrrrrrrr” and so on. Spanish, Russian – many languages require this.
      
      I like to hear the way a genuine Southlander says “iron” – Eye-RRon. Much more robust sound than northern NZ ” Eye-on”.

I believe DPF is a proponent of huge executive salaries because you need to pay top dollar to get the best.

But, what about when company performance is poor and the CEO’s are on multimillion dollar deals?

Fonterra just made a large loss, yet the CEO enjoys one of the largest pay packets in the country.

There are other examples, such as Fletchers.

These people reap all the rewards but accept none of the risk.. apart from moving on to another high paying junket .

  Fluency does not mean being able to say one or two canned sentences and being able to count to 5. It does not even mean being able to struggle along on a day-to-day basis. It means having a good mastery of the language and being articulate.

One is that the SLG is being made to look even more like a SLG with each passing day, the other is (and I did not think this possible) that Megan Woods continues to expand. Clearly the Bellamy’s staff are overworked with her in the house.
Still, she has plenty of things on her mind at the moment I suppose.

  Yup, I found it interesting to see the immigration patterns to Madagascar being slowly pushed back from 1000 to 4000 years ago, but the 10k year evidence changes that somewhat.
  
  Africa is pretty much devoid of any transport technology (on land and on the water) except for the odd dug-out log canoe on the major lakes and estuaries. Most, if not all, of the sea trading up and down the African coast over the last 1000 to 2000 or so years were the Arabian and Persian traders (of slaves and other valuables). However they were almost exclusively coastal traders. Polynesians were also known to have traveled over the ocean ~1000 years ago.
  
  It doesn’t look like Africans did this on their own which raises some interesting questions.
  
  Regardless of what happened 10k years ago, what really matters is now: can Africa stop being such a basket case?

At Red Radio’s web site, a Maori-language lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington, Dr Vini Olsen-Reeder (presumably the Ph. D. is in Maori language), commenting on the proportion of Maori academics at the university – 4.6 per cent – is reported as saying:

“”There’s such a push to increase more matauranga Maori into lecture content that our Maori students, who might be doing a science degree or something like that, are being taught Maori content not necessarily by a Maori lecturer and not necessarily correctly.”

What Maori content is required for a science degree? Do you have to have Maori custom lessons to get a science degree?

I watched a video of Tracy Watkins interviewing Ardern this morning. Actually interviewing is not the correct word as it was a love in.

Watkins was sooooo nice to Ardern asking her soft questions and virtually apologising for having to ask them.

Ardern gave her usual BS response and made great use of her hands to emphasise the answers.

You will be pleased to know that everything is fine with the COL and it is running smoothly with her and Winnie at the helm. No disagreements or friction.

  I almost vomited in my mouth at the Gym the other morning. I was on the Treadmill listening to some quality AC/DC and Iron Maiden tracks and the TV on the wall was playing some TV3 ‘Breakfast show’ thing.
  Now I couldn’t hear the words spoken (Thank God for the Young brothers) but they were flicking through the new children’s book about Jacinda and Baby.
  Jacinda is portrayed as positively angelic and radiant in every picture! (Not the pasty,scowling, skeletal thing she is in real life)
  But the picture that almost made me hurl was the DJ’ing one! Yep Jacinda is at the Decks flipping records while baby sleeps- And members of her ‘hip young’ Government dance around her…

How about we halve “experts” salaries and see if that works?

We all know we eat too much sugar.
We need to lobby the manufacturers to cut back on it!
But I have heard that they use it to make their products “tastier” and also as a bulking agent! and also as a preservative.

        I’ve got the wife’s German Shepherd warming my feet at the moment Longknives. She’s fairly bright & I’ve taught her to recognise about 25 commands. (the dog I mean….48 years & I can’t get the cook to get in behind!)
        
        Anyway, I just tried Tara out with half a dozen Maori words. Bloody hopeless……she just doesn’t get this Te Reo thing. 🙂

      When I first commented here I was accused of:
      being menopausal

      suffering from sexual jealousy
      being delusional
      being a liar
      It was stated that I had saggy little tits
      and that I was a piece of shit

      Stephieboy has called me an Alt-righter, a liar and mad
      Stephieboy has asked me for my underwear measurements
      (You do realise, I am a 65 year-old married woman)
      
      I have had one commenter who has said his aim is to destroy any professional reputation I may have had.
      
      I noticed over time. such sexual abuse was not delivered to males who expressed doubt about climate change.
      
      I also noticed that some folks liked to hunt me down in a pack… often late at night.. when they were less likely to attract others telling them how vile they were.
      
      I have noticed when challenged now, these abusers vanish for the rest of the day/night, or deny that the abuse was intended.
      
      I don’t abuse other people.
      I am a Pacifist by conviction.
      I am not a liar.
      I comment under my own name. There’s no hidden back stories. There’s no secret where I live.
      I have no political affiliations.
      
      The abuse I received here when I posedt on a climate issue still continues over on Pete George’s blog..Griff has pursued me over to that site.
