      Yeah well if Shorten becomes PM it will just continue the last decade of bad policies. eg if Australia wants to seriously reduce greenhouse emissions it will need several large nuclear stations. The idea that it is going to do it with renewables is a farce. If they don’t get a stable energy policy the lights will go out. Or more importantly the air conditioning.

  I’m more interested in seeing how Simon Bridges is going to deal with the expenses leak fiasco now that it seems the source was one of his own MP’s. Particularly if he continued to accuse the Government for leaking after he knew it wasn’t. Honestly, in between that and the Liberal Party revolving door approach to leadership, I worry that I will run out of popcorn today.

      The media has been having a field day this morning. ‘National MPs flock to Wellington!’was one classic headline. It seems the media would just love a political debacle on this side of the Tasman to match the idiocy in Canberra.

  However, Bishop has been deputy leader since 2007, during which time the leader has been:
  Brendan Nelson (11/2007–09/2008)

  Malcolm Turnbull (09/2015–)

      It’s all academic because an election is almost inevitable regardless of who the Libs choose as leader. The decision ultimately will be whether the Nats choose to sit on the cross-benches. Just a couple of Nat MPs could force an election and Shorten must fancy his chances.

  At this point it seems to me that RNZ is running a smoke screen (and using it as an excuse to further undermine Simon Bridges & National) because they admitted this morning they have no real evidence (just “claims”) that the original leaker is actually a National MP.
  
  Now we have a second leaker that has passed on the first leaker’s story to RNZ (the second leaker is RNZ’s source according to their 7.10am report).
  
  Simple conclusion: either the leaker is a National MP (if so they need to go) or is perhaps a Civil Servant (i.e. someone with access to National’s internal meetings – which could be in the form of reading/accessing memos perhaps etc).
  
  Good thing then that Mallard appointed a QC to investigate regardless, let’s get to the bottom of this (no matter where the leaker comes from)!

      RNZ’s Jo Moir, who seems to have broken the story, said she hasn’t seen the first leaker’s text messages. She stated RNZ has heard about them from this second “leaker”.
      
      The first leaker sent a text message(s) to Bridges and Speaker Mallard. Only they know the contents (or first knew).
      
      The second “leaker”, associated with the original leaker, was the conduit to RNZ.
      
      As Maggy says, it all does sound rather amateurish!

        The indentities of the writer in particular, but also the two leakers is going to be very interesting. I suspect we’ll never find out who the latest leaker was.

  I suspect that if the Author of the Email didn’t want exposure it wouldn’t have been sent to Mallard or leaked to the press. If it was a National MP the easy way out would have been resignation for health reasons! However I suspect this is a hit job from a parliament services low life to sabotage the inquiry.

  Im disappointed with Bridges. He not getting any cut thru. He is faced with the biggest shambles of governance in at least the past 70 years. In my time following politics 50 years I cant think of a Government that has made so many gaffs many of them breaching politics 101.
  Yet Bridges hasnt scored any hits. I suspect there are serious rumblings within the caucus around his lack of effectiveness and lack of leadership.
  I will be surprised if he leads the Party into the next election.

      Is Bridges “struggling”? I’ve not noticed, but what I have noticed is the Media are still overwhelming protective of Labour and the clueless airhead PM.
      
      Whilst the Media are still in love with Jacindamania no matter who leads National (Bridges/Collins/Bennett etc) will get no major cut through.
      
      In the meantime whoever leads National needs to speak over the heads of the MSM (which Bridges did successfully with his nationwide tour) and directly to the voters, and come 2020 the MSM will, like they were in 2011 and 2014 especially, completely dumbfounded when the voters “didn’t listen to them”!

        Disagree niggly. Holding townhalls ,mainly during the working day, just means you are talking to retirees who probably would vote National anyway.
        If Bridges is going to get anywhere he has to talk to younger “swing” voters.
        I totally agree with you about communicating with voters by going around the MSM but there seems to be little sign of that happening.
        A simple example : I have a friend in the O&G industry. When Bridges and three other National MPs had a meeting in New Plymouth when the issue was “hot” my friend tried to find out what happened. Nothing in the MSM as you would expect but National has my friend’s email address as he has been in contact with Jonathan Young.
        Now how hard would it be to have some assistant collate the emails of those who have shown interest in particular issues so the party could keep them up to date on Party thinking ? It is just a simple data base matter. If they did it that email probably would have been sent around all sorts of people.

        Rachel, ideally yes, it should be like that, BUT if Mr Bridges has anything to do with it, it will be no preparation until 2020 appears. He has presented no policies, made no evident preparations to cope with such a possibility, and is apparently in agreement with a lot of what the CoL says. All of which begs the question: Exactly why is he even still in charge? It’s almost as if he doesn’t WANT to do anything which might give the Nats a victory!, White anting comes to mind, and one has to ask why? (Except that no one is).

National needs someone who isn’t afraid to call out Jacinda’s bullshit. Bridges is playing the “nice guy” act and its getting him nowhere.

      Huevon as much as I would like this to be true unfortunately Kiwis are not like American’s and a Trump like figure won’t work.
      The second anyone from National goes after JA it will be played for all it is worth and many of the general public will fall for it. We forget we are plugged into politics but many of our fellow countrymen are not and if the media slices things just right then most won’t bother to find the context.
      All Bridges has to do is keep up the nice guy persona radiate ability and he will cut through. We forget that eventually the media will tire of having to cover up for their chosen one and will turn on her. Made by the media and will be destroyed by the same and it will happen sooner rather than later. If there is one thing I know the media hate being dictated to and H1&2 won’t be able to help themselves they will overstep.
      Add to this the prices rises that will happen to basics and they are stuffed.

  This is not the first time we’re told of “high placed” sources of information buried deep within Parliamentary offices, with National Party leaders as the target. Remember, aside from the Bridges expenses leak, at least two books have been written (and a third likely on the way judging by DPF’s note from DIA yesterday), a “documentary” film produced, a stage play toured, thousands of hours of tv footage and commentary aired, and screeds of column inches published, all dedicated to a flow of internal private material and tasty morsels sourced from within National over at least 15 years now.
  
  There has been much interference run by the mainstream media, NZF, Labour and by National themselves, but it is looking increasingly likely that a few chickens are now coming home to roost. If Bridges now buys into more of this track-covering interference, and seeks to bury things to save some short term embarrassment, based on an “anonymous” text, then he’s doomed and he knows it.   On Morning Report, the claim was the MP did so because of Bridge’s arrogance and this was getting back at him. Apparently, the MP is so fragile this may tip them over the edge, so they send anonymous texts because they are afraid of being found out. Doesn’t add up.
  
  If the person is so fragile, they should be taking leave and already have made themselves known to the whips office. Which means Bridges should know who the person is. Which then begs the question why a public witch hunt in order to air dirty laundry? Any sensible leader does not act in this manner to look strong.
  
  Given to date the National caucas has been so unified, none of this adds up.
  
  So it smacks more of a squirrel from another direction in order to divert attention from the source.

    Interestingly the Police know the identity of the leaker but refuse to advise Bridges.
    
    Is this a good or bad thing? After all any Police investigation is surely independent of the formal QC investigation. Shouldn’t the complainant (Bridges) be told? I mean if “we” went to the Police because something similar happened to one of “us”, surely the Police would tell “us”? Happy to be corrected by those in the know.
    
    But otherwise worse case scenario is we know that Police HQ seem to be beholden to the Govt of the day, so how can the public be confident that Police HQ’s strings aren’t being pulled by the likes of H1/H2 types (etc) to deflect and distract?

      If the police know, the enquiry under Mallard’s authority will have the power to subpoena the information from Police. Equally, the enquiry will be able to determine who the texts came from, as even with pay as you go phones, payment is via bank card.
      
      So, the person who has leaked, needs to either come forward or fall on their sword and buy an airline ticket to Africa or South America. Because the longer this continues the worse their position will become.

Let me start off by saying I am against the Waka Jumping Bill.

However, it seems like a simple solution to prove that it is not all about Winston and/or the leader having too much power is changing “the leader and 2/3 of party members” to “2/3 of party members”.

Of course this will not happen as Winston will be forced to keep looking over his shoulder although it would be amusing to see his party not only roll him as leader but oust him at the same time!

  It’s worse than that. The requirement in the bill is that “the parliamentary leader of that party confirms that at least two-thirds of the parliamentary members of that party agree”. There is no requirement that a vote be held on the matter! Winston could just assert that 2/3 of his caucus agree with him and be taken on his word. This is an atrociously bad bill.

  Mining (what South Africa has) needs massive capital investment. The gold is not on the surface like NZ. Most of it is kilometers deep. Should I be worried that our Government are signing away the citizens sovereignty.
I refer specifically to the Paris Agreement and the Agreement around immigration and refugees.

Both have the potential to adversely impact on the economic prosperity of existing citizens.

The Paris Agreement will result in greater taxes and levies being paid by citizens for no up lift in their economic position and the immigration and refugee agreement will result in them paying more taxes and levies and suffering even more housing problems and traffic congestion.

Are both part of the UN One World Government that a former PM and the current PM are supporters of.

All international agreements entail Governments “signing away citizens’ sovereignty”. If that is your concern about these agreements then you should also be concerned about all of the other international agreements that successive Governments have signed New Zealand up to.

A Foxton man, Kally Joseph Taylor, 39, has been sentenced to *Preventive Detention* for the sexual assault and rape of a 71 year old woman in Palmerston North.

Taylor first entered the woman’s home in October last year….he gagged and bound her with a scarf before pushing her onto a bed, pulling her legs apart, and smelling her crotch. He then stole her credit cards and escaped in her car.

Taylor returned to her house some months later, where he then raped her before again escaping in her car. After this second attack, Taylor was finally arrested a few days later…… he has *33 previous convictions* for sexual assault and burglary.

  Not well. Kiddy-fiddlers and those who rape or murder grannies are the lowest of the low in the prison pecking order.
  
  I suspect Taylor will end up in the sex offenders unit at Whanganui Prison, where he will share facilities with paedophiles, inmates in witness protection and imprisoned police officers. I used to go there to help with church services for the inmates, and it is the most soul-destroying and chilling place. These inmates are kept segregated from other inmates for their own protection as they would be quickly targeted if they were in the general prison population.
  
  Taylor may however find that his crime is so bad that even some of the “protected” inmates will decide to take matters into their own hands. He had better get used to his own company, because he is going to be spending a lot of time on lock-down.

  Every cellphone is trackable. Your phone (and even the old bricks) are connected to multiple (3-10) cell towers simultaneously and the signal strength with each is measured. Using this info, and overlaying cell tower location and terrain it’s possible to pinpoint a phone’s location. Police and SIS do this all the time.
  
  The confidential bit relates to identification of the purchaser of a pre-paid SIM. In many countries now you must produce a passport in order to by a pre-paid SIM. Where this isn’t required, it’s difficult to associate a user with a device. Unless they’re also carrying their main phone with them, and both phones can be tracked on the same course over a period of time

It gets worse. She has an excuse. She was raped but didn’t report it as she felt sorry for him. This is of course the automatic response to any woman found to have had sex with a boy and is very efficient in getting not guilty verdicts. A recent case in NZ is a fine example with a resulting not guilty.
What affect did this have on her partner who suicided?

What amazes me is the culture of sex then extortion for money in Holywood. Even Bieber was a target until she realised she committed a crime if she did have sex with him. Red blooded males like Trump just become easy targets for financial predators. Note the rush to the lawyers office once he announced his candidacy. How many, hundreds if not thousands of other such extorted hush money payments are there that we don’t know about.

Trump won’t be impeached. Even Former Clinton-appointed FEC Chairman Bradley Smith has mentioned that no laws were broken. He said,

Assignment review mapping of judgments in district court shows that:

• 58 percent of those convicted of rape and attempted rape over the past five years were born abroad. 

• If you only look at attempted and completed assault violence – where the victim and the perpetrator do not know each other – the figure is even higher. More than eight out of ten convicted offenders were born in another country. 40 percent of these have been in Sweden for a year or less.

• The survey also shows that over half of the convicted offenders were born outside of Europe – 427 out of 843. Nearly 40 percent were born in the Middle East or Africa. In the case of assault violence, 97 out of 129 are born outside of Europe.

      “Rite” is a transliteration of “like”. it is even more dubious without a preceding vowel.
      However Polynesia has a root word appearing in Maori as waka/whaka which is used as a modifier doing that task. Hence Whakarewarewa–like extremely hot (boiling) . Rewa is duplicated forming a plural to make the point that it’s more than regular hot.
      
      We should stop trying to anglicise Maori: the language would be swamped with transliterations.
      Add grammar variants to English forms and we have roughly bad English. Another complication is that Maori has a different pronoun set reflecting familial relationships. We could get a pidgin hodgepodge very easy. No one would gain and teaching children would be more difficult.

      Do you have reason to assume that your printed Māori dictionary is thoroughly comprehensive? Most of the printed Māori dictionaries I’ve seen have been a subset of the language, because compiling a comprehensive dictionary is a fucking big job requiring a sizable team of people, and NZ publishers generally aren’t in a position to fund that. What you’re doing is like me taking my mother’s little 5th form German dictionary from 1953 and posting here every day pointing out the words that aren’t in it and claiming that this demonstrates what a primitive language German is.     Your use of ōrite to mean “consistent” may be a little too simplistic. The word appears closer to ‘equal’ or ‘matching’ in a physical sense (e.g. a dead-heat in a game) rather than (say) consistent in one’s thoughts or actions. The word ōrite is also associated with measuring devices, such as a level or a set of weighing scales.

Publisher NZME has reported a 52 per cent loss in profit after tax in its half year results, to $3.7 million and will steam ahead on its plan to put up a paywall for its “premium” content.

NZME, which owns the New Zealand Herald, also reported a drop in revenue of 3 per cent, to $185.7m. This time last year the company’s profits were at $7.8m.

The company has also signalled it will put up a paywall around some of its “premium” online content in the second half of 2018, with the aim to grow new revenue streams.

I actually have some experience of Male Strip shows (Yeah i know that comment will bring me some flak)
In my University days I was a hotshot bartender and worked a travelling Strip Show for a few nights- I have never seen such debauchery! This has probably been discussed already but I noticed a small news item today that uninsured red zone house owners in Christchurch will be reimbursed in full by the Government for damaged done to their properties. The article basically saying the “nasty” National Government had only paid them out for 50%. The rest of us have seen our insurance premiums rise by a considerable amount so does raise the question of will the Government underwrite my house going forward so I don’t have to pay the extra insurance.

Daniel Horowitz is a prodigy of a jurist. He is incredibly gifted at explaining constitutional issues so they’re easily understood. Him and Mark Levin are real mensches.

His podcast is brilliant. His articles are brilliant. He’s delineating better then anyone the scale of the leftist rape of the United States of America via the last institution it’s people have been duped into having faith in.

Honestly, listen to this. It’s based in the United States. But the broader concepts could be applied to our own Supreme Court.

What Horowitz is saying has ramifications for us. A United States comprised of Mexicans is not going to secure our national security anymore then Mexico would. Our own little affairs are important, but this is civilizational scale stuff.

Horowitz is saying that just in the last week, leftist cultural marxist judges have unconstitutionally on ten separate cases achieved 50 years worth of social engineering.

They’ve said the states can’t control their own electoral law, even as they are then allowed to ignore Federal law on immigration – when the plenary powers of the constitution for 200 years have said immigration law is the ambit of the other houses of government. Not just per the Supreme Court. Per the constitution. The courts have burned the constitution.

Think about how perverse that is. Lower courts, with no constitutional powers to bind the other houses of government in the first place, have said the states can’t determine their own electoral law, but can ignore 200 years worth of plenary powers of the Federal government.

That’s just 2 cases.

There are actually 13 more in the past 2 weeks on those kind of lines. Per these lower court criminal sin robes apparently the States have no power to withdraw funding from criminal enterprises like Planned Parenthood if the Feds say so – but they have the right to demand and force the Federal government to provide funding for illegal immigrants.

So the states have no right to control their funding, and then absolute right to control their funding, depending on whether or not it serves the left.

It’s just insane. Totally insane. It’s literal revolution. It’s the end point of the long march. I initially was suspect at Hungary and Poland suspending their judiciary. I’m not any longer.

I won’t carry on.

This is a judicial coup. As Horowitz says, nothing matters. Until the judges and the media in the US are smashed, no elected government can accomplish anything. Unbelievable.

The Judges in the most shitty little backwoods courts in the United States have usurped the Constitution and given themselves the power to make positive law. Not in any classical jurisprudence sense. Outright.

Trump will win a second term.

When he wins a second term, a lot of judges are going to be removed, quietly, how permanently will depend on the level of their depravity. And they will deserve it. It’s hard to communicate the true significance of what Horowitz is saying.

You’ll read this and think, Oh, it’s just this guy again, exaggerating and emoting and writing a long tedious comment.

Nope – civil war I’m not 100% certain is going to happen in the United States. Because nothing short of wholesale removal by force of judges from lower courts will prevent South Africa level implosion. That won’t happen because the media machine will never accurately report on the constitutional violations of those judges.

It’s not judges just being ludicrously political. They’re being outright unconstitutional. No lese majeste and Divine absolute power would exceed what these judges are doing. Not on social fault-line issues. On the most fundamental issues of administrative law and powers of governance.

The constitution in the United States doesn’t exist. If 200 years of plenary powers on immigration can be overturned by a lower court and then they slow-walk appeals for years to the Supreme Court it’s finished.

It’s monstrous. The only good thing is, when the vicious war starts, those judges are going to be taking helicopter rides. It’s fucking time for leftists to start fearing the people the way they’ve made everyone fear them.

  Learn the constitution. This is the ambit of the Lincoln Douglass speeches. The Courts have no right to usurp the constitution. What they are doing is an act of hostile revolution. Jefferson was simply anunciating a basic tenet of civic governance when he said that on occasion the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants. The left has no monopoly on revolutionary lineage and tenets. No monopoly whatsoever. What is happening in those lower courts is beyond the pale.
  
  So just wait and see. Trump’s second term, judges are going to be moving into new jobs at Walmart etc. Because they’re breaking the law, not making it.

It has become worse during a time when virtue signalling and fake concern for others has flourished. It has become worse during a time when there has been huge money spent on preventing suicide and raising awareness. It has become worse while white people have been blamed for Maori outcomes.

After years of this failing what have they decided? To double down with more of the same.

Virtue signalling harms and kills. A return to pragmatic common sense and genuine compassion is what is needed. When surrounded by fake insincere people, those going through dark times feel even more worthless and disconnected.

One aspect to this week’s political soap opera in Australia has been largely overlooked.

On Wednesday the Attorney-General Christian Porter asked the Solicitor-General to provide urgent advice on Peter Dutton’s eligibility to sit in Parliament. The advice, which was issued today, says Mr Dutton is “not incapable” of remaining in Parliament. But the advice is qualified – the Solicitor-General had access to “very little factual information” and there is “some risk … that the High Court might conclude that there is a conflict between Mr Dutton’s duty as a parliamentarian and his personal interests”.

But why did the Peter Dutton constitutional question arise in the first place?

The answer can be found in another legal opinion prepared by Bret Walker SC and James Mack. The legal opinion is here. It begins:

We are asked by Noah Carroll, National Secretary and Campaign Director, Australian Labor Party National Secretariat to advise whether it is arguable that the purported member of the federal electorate of Dickson, Mr Peter Dutton, is eligible to sit as a member of the House of Representatives.

So the Australian Labor Party sought the legal opinion. It’s obvious what they were up to. And the legal opinion is dated 18 April 2018 – 4 months ago. As ABC’s federal political reporter Matthew Doran stated on Wednesday:

Labor have written to Turnbull regarding Dutton’s potential s44 issue, and included legal advice saying he’s in trouble from Bret Walker SC. It’s dated April. They’ve had this in the top drawer for some time

      He said:
      
      As a conservative Christian, I strongly support traditional social values, but, as an Australian nationalist, I also believe in Australia and Australians first. I also believe in the right of people to raise their kids in accordance with their own values, without a bunch of nanny state meddlers and cultural Marxists trying to re-engineer them. I believe that the key role of government is to provide laws for the enforcement of contracts, to provide physical security for businesses and individuals and to build infrastructure. I believe that the priority for government expenditure is not obligation-free handouts but nation building: providing the facilities and infrastructure which businesses and farmers need to develop and grow, which then provides for secure, well-paid jobs. I believe that ordinary working people have the right to expect a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work, to keep what they have worked for, to get ahead and have a decent life, to be able to provide for themselves in old age, and to have enough to help their kids have an even better life than themselves. I believe that the unfettered ownership of private property and the right to own and use firearms, including for self-defence, are the God-given rights of free people everywhere. And I believe, as the American revolutionaries did, that government is usually the problem not the solution and that, in order for people to be free, the power of government needs to be constrained.
      
      Many people would agree with those comments.
      
      And also:
      
      My most immediate concern is saving agriculture in this country. … My next biggest concern is rural infrastructure development. … The next critical problem that we need to address is immigration. … My next political objective is affordable home ownership.
      
      So immigration ranked third in his list.
      
      I don’t agree with everything that he said, but I think it’s worth going past the media hysteria to read his comments in context.

        Thanks Nosty – not that the MSM would ever permit what remains of its viewers/readers to see the context of what a proper right wing Politician has to say….
        
        Much more preferable to create hysteria so that people’s critical thinking skills are shut down.
