Regarding that California court case that awarded $440m for cancer from using the widely-used RoundUp herbicide.

The lead investigator of the only agency (IARC) that has ever found RoundUp to have any carcinogenic potential was being paid by two US law firms preparing to sue the maker of RoundUp.

    It is lower now than it has been since the GFC, with the exception of 2014-2016 when the global milk price collapsed leading to a bad year for NZD, business confidence etc. The CoL doesn’t have that external problem as an excuse. They are in a mess of their own making.

      meh – the politically-minded are quick to attribute gains to their policies and losses to external forces (left, right, centre, red, blue, green, whatever – they all do it). If the dollar had slid in a similar manner and National was still government KB would be blaming the global economic uncertainty due to Trump’s anti free trade rhetoric (if not that exactly, something else like that).
      Maybe what you are saying is right, but that’s how I see the game is played.

        Well SGA perhaps we are lucky you are well removed from money matters but while a long view (like sweet cheeks now favors) can be very misleading. Look at a 3 months graph to get a better image of the cause and effect of the COL. The rate of decline started after the O&G captains call and then the more pronounced drop after Orr confirmed he is their man and left the OCR alone. He was obviously “corrected” after his previous warnings of inflation coming more slowly than anticipated but it is coming. Unlike what sweet cheeks would like us to believe the fact is in the money markets the little picture is more significant than the bigger view. The latter might also remind them of so many missed signals for rapid returns. However the treat remains that things might go even further south when the US$ starts to firm up from their botany economic growth. It will even the meager NZ$0.6680 it has leveled at today seem like big bucks. Just imagine what that will do to the price of all those little battery powered the COL will replace their fleet with? Yet another reason why a fiscally responsible Government allows so much for contingencies as opposed to one restricted by self imposed fiscal limitations without contingencies provisions. Unfortunately we have entered the repeat stage that follows the rinsing but no matter what they do or what they say they will never get a clean wash. Every time it hits the spin stage the shit drips off their chin making it an embarrassment to hang outside the beltway.

Have you seen this? Patients with kidney disorders in NZ are having their dialysis rationed because immigrants (who aren’t eligible) are turning up at emergency departments to be treated. Dialysis is supposed to be three times a week – the minimum standard – but treatment is being rationed down to two times a week which Immigration New Zealand’s chief medical officer says will make patients “get sick and die quicker”. ?

Seventy years ago New Zealand under then Labour PM Peter Fraser played a leading role in drafting the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Declaration guarantees the rights of “freedom of opinion and expression, including the freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media” (Article 19). It is ironic these freedoms are now under sustained attack in Jacinda Ardern’s New Zealand.

  But VP most know his position on matters Trump and much prefer the open door that allows us to not only hear it but challenge it if it is not what we want to hear. One of the pure joys of free speech we are all ready to defend and fight for when it is under threat. Many also know he can be intentionally provocative as a means to stimulate open a free debate with only the trolls dragging down the tone of exchanges.
