A much better appointment
Stuff reports:
A leading Queens Council is the latest head of the beleaguered inquiry into the appointment of Wally Haumaha as deputy police commissioner.
Mary Scholtens QC would replace former chair Pauline Kingi, Internal AffaIrs Minister Tracey Martin said on Friday.
The investigation has turned into something of a fiasco, with a constant stream of revelations regarding Haumaha’s conduct, and questions over personal relationships with a number of ministers.
And with the former inquiry head.
Scholtens is highly respected but more importantly does not appear to be conflicted. QCs tend to be experienced in doing inquiries, so I expect this will be as thorough as the terms of reference allow.
