  Funny Poppa how selective news we see getting reported as the first SHA house has been sold in Queenstown for around $800,000 odd. That location has been the most expensive place to buy a house for a long time so while they need SHA’s like anywhere else don’t expect to reduce prices there.
  Meanwhile they ignore the regions yet again where so many SHA’s are going gang busters as the tradies are struggling to keep up. Also noting a reluctance of the COL to tamper with the SHA process which they bagged so much when it was introduced. While they are unlikely to be included in Twitfords scheme he can not afford to tamper with getting close to National in doubling house building in their last term. His need to be separate and on top of this as they were to be additional, affordable houses. Tui anybody.

  There are means to retrieve deleted messages.
  
  It is an assault on our basic democracy for a politician to be threatened. I would have thought that all our MPs had been briefed on steps to follow when a threat is received.

    Sure , if you are talking about a shrinking violet with no experience in making public statements that are bound to piss a lot of people off. But that’s not Marama is it? She is a brave activist that speaks truth to power, has even travelled to Israel and faced down the big, bad IDF etc and yet we are expected to believe she is frightened of some facebook trolls?
    
    It is very fucking convenient for her to call these two Canadians racist/bigots/white supremacists etc and then then have their supporters come out and prove her point don’t you think?
    
    Don’t you find it a bit odd that no one else has come forward claiming to have seen these rape and death threats on her public facebook page? Note that she says “threats” – plural – and yet she managed to delete them all before anyone else saw them. You would think if she really wanted to prove that these Canadians are as evil as she thinks they are that she would keep the proof of how deranged their supporters in NZ are.

      No-one knows how they’d react in some crap situations until they’ve been in them. I’ve seen remarkably cool reactions at accident from those who I’d least expect to be cool calm and collected, while others I would have banked on, freezing.
      
      President Trump talked of having bravado enough to challenge an active shooter even if his only weapons were his bare hands. Some thought, yeah, he’s big and brave, while others thought, yeah, right. No shrinking violet but no experience in dealing with armed intruders.
      
      You don’t know until you’re in the situation.
      
      Davidson has an awful lot to lose by being found to not be telling the truth (accepting that the messages are retrievable.)

More Kiwibuild detail available now from the Kiwibuild cabinet paper.

The calculations from New Zealand’s banks show a much sunnier picture for KiwiBuild, with around 57.5 per cent of recent first home buyers able to afford a $579,000 KiwiBuild and around 80 per cent of buyers looking at the homes outside of Auckland in with a shot.

But as the article today points out, bit of a problem with the data as it is for first home buyers who actually bought recently. And it assumes a 20% deposit and buying at the cap. Which is a lot of money unless they are rich kids.

“Through KiwiBuild this Government is committed to providing the opportunity for home ownership to families who are currently locked out of purchasing their first home. This is a broader cohort of families ranging in household income from $80,000 to $180,000 in high-demand markets,” the paper reads.

Disingenuous, surely, to say the scheme is for those locked out of home ownership. Most if not all Kiwibuild homes less than 3 bedrooms are to be under the caps stated, and based on their own actual data most first home buyers can already afford to pay up to the capped prices.

Ever since Australia’s Immigration Minister Peter Dutton announced they would deport some of their worst criminals back to the land of their birth, we’ve seen a right lot of horrible bastards arrive back here…..the types that make you wonder why any country would ever want to abolish the death-penalty.

However, in this instance, I’m not feeling quite so bad. Hopefully, there may even be a few more like this bloke they can repatriate…..sons for the return home?

Until recently a lot of my working career has been emergency services in both NZ and Europe. I have followed the Thai Caving Rescue with great interest and was absolutely amazed to hear 4 of the boys were successfully rescued. I have caved in NZ but never cave dived – cave diving is perhaps one of, if not the, most risky ‘adventure activities’; there is. All credit and kudos to those people who have risked it all, including one who gave it all, in the pursuit of trying to help those boys from what must be a terrifying and at times bleak situation. Sometimes news stories can have a positive impact; its just unfortunate they are the minority ….

  I have dived a lot and cave dived (sea caves) a bit but never caved other than tourist type walks.
  I too have followed the epic closely.
  
  Seems that they have been brought out using a full face mask on the kid with a tether to a diver front and rear. Kid carries a small (pony) bottle of maybe 15 ft/3 which they can take off for the tight bits which would be on a maybe 3 meter hose so it can be dragged/pushed along. Whole thing takes 1 1/2 hours and they are doing 2 kids at a time. Something like 90 divers in the water at a time to do the whole exercise.

  Colville, there are good templates on your computer (I presume PC’s have them as IMac do). Choose the template you like and do it yourself? As long as it is tidy and contains your relevant info. You can pay big money commercially for the same effect.

Assuming you have the required qualifications and experience (which should be covered briefly in the covering letter) a good covering letter will get you an interview. Look up (google?) examples of covering letters. Your CV can be any good template (word has good ones).

    Yes, FGM is an appalling practice. But it is not particularly an indictment of Islam, and neither is it an argument against immigration.
    
    There are good reasons not to like Islam, and there are good reasons to oppose immigration. But FGM is not among them.
    
    Why not an indictment of Islam: because FGM is not actually required by Islam, and it is carried out in some communities that are not Muslim, and it is not carried out in some communities that are Muslim.
    
    Why not an argument against immigration: Immigration is the reason those cases of FGM occurred in the UK. It is not the reason that they occurred. Those poor girls would have suffered the same fate wherever their families were, and it’s likely that there are many other girls who have been saved by the same fate as a result of their families having moved to the UK where the practice is illegal.
    
    Unless you think FGM carried out in the UK is a greater affront than FGM carried out in FGMistan? Why?

      About 60000 Muslims in NZ. NZ population has about 13 births per 1000, so Muslims will be probably double that or about 1500 kids per year. 750 Muslim girls. Muslims in london are about 12%, and about 3% of women there have been mutilated, mostly Muslim. So about 25% of muslim women mutilated in a major western city.
      
      Suggests about 150-200 year in NZ. so perhaps every 2 days instead of 1.

        Absence of proof is not proof of absence. 4500 cases per year of FGM in UK, but not a single conviction for FGM in UK, ever. If you were to covert those numbers to NZ (corrected for ~2.5% muslim population) it would be about 110 per year.
        
        FGM is mostly done to girls when they visit their families homelands. And given pc sensibilities and typical howls of racism as well as exceedingly insular nature of Muslim community authorities are unlikely to ever be involved in anything to do with abuse of Muslim children (just as in other religious cults). The Muslim community is mostly not strongly opposed to FGM, and will not report it to the Infidel authorities if they do hear about it.

  Took my grandson into the meet the teacher night a few months ago,my partner and I walked into the room to meet the teacher and the lily white woman in front of us jumped to her feet and started doing a karakia , somehow she had found out that our grandchildren are part Maori i’m guessing,apparently the both of us turning around and walking out wasn’t the right thing to do but FFS.

UN Green Climate Fund going tits up?

Yesterday, a board meeting of the U.N. Green Climate Fund collapsed in bitterness, failing to approve any funding, and its executive director abruptly resigned. Like so many other global warmist gatherings of well paid officials in luxurious and exotic locales, this one was supposed to share the joy of distributing other people’s money and being praised for it. But President Trump turned off the spigot from the United States Treasury, and nobody else was willing to step up and replace the American cash with his own.

Megan Darby reports in Climate Change News:

Howard Bamsey resigned as executive director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) with immediate effect on Wednesday, in a bombshell finish to a fraught board meeting.

The Australian cited “pressing personal reasons” in his resignation letter, adding that it was best he leave before the next round of fundraising started.

It came as the four-day meeting in Songdo, South Korea collapsed with no decisions on 11 funding bids worth nearly $1 billion, or on how to top up the flagship climate finance initiative’s dwindling resources.

The resources are dwindling because of President Trump’s pullout from the Paris Climate Accord and his suspension of 2 billion taxpayer dollars slated for the fund:

As well as the US withholding $2bn of its pledge, the pot has lost some $1bn in value due to exchange rate fluctuations since 2014, officials reported.

That “exchange rate” loss strikes me as highly suspicious. How does one lose that much without risky speculation? The entire commitments to date, according to Bloomberg, have been only $3.7 billion. Were the funds invested in Iranian rials? Could a U.N. agency possibly be corrupt? Perish the thought!

With resources dwindling, and nobody anxious to replace Uncle Sam, the applicants apparently have turned on one another:

With developing countries complaining their priorities were not properly represented, it took nearly two days to agree on the agenda for the meeting.

“I have never served on a board that is this dysfunctional and toxic in my life,” said US representative Geoffrey Okamoto, as the discussion dragged on.

In the context of Donald Trump’s US cutting off contributions to the fund, however, Okamoto’s comment rankled with some.

“It is typical playing to the crowd,” said Zaheer Fakir, who represents South Africa. “The reason why it is dysfunctional and toxic is the way [the co-chairs] prepared for this board meeting.”

He said there had been a “serious lack of consultation” and the chairs had not responded to comments regarding the agenda before the meeting.

Giving away other people’s money to third-world countries in the name of “fighting climate change” used to be the sort of thing to delight a progressive’s heart…until President Trump ruined the game, that is.

If one wants to really help the developing world, the focus ought to be on affordable energy production, not on fighting carbon dioxide emissions, an entirely theoretical danger, and one with many benefits (faster crop growth with less fertilizer, for instance). Green power is expensive power, and poor countries need more energy to raise their standards of living.

Trump’s refusal to contribute has driven a wedge between other wealthy countries and the developing world, which still expects governments to fulfil a collective promise to deliver $100bn climate aid a year by 2020, partly through the GCF. …

Other major multilateral funds like the Global Environment Facility are also running low on climate cash and tightening their criteria.

If the other developed countries (I’m looking at you, Chancellor Merkel) aren’t willing to replace the American cash, maybe they don’t really believe all the scary predictions. It’s enough to make one suspect that we have been suckered all along.

Making specific cakes for clients is a creative process and surely any painter, musician or writer could refuse to deliver an item that celebrates something they don’t agree with.

I’ve just got home from Simon Bridges’ public meeting in Whanganui, and I’ve come away with a very favourable impression.

Bridges spoke for around 20 minutes at the start of the meeting, then took a range of questions from the audience on everything from flouridation of water to the Stone People in Waipoua Forest! He answered questions for well over an hour, gave straight-up answers.

From Whanganui, Bridges was heading to Hawera for a lunchtime meeting, then he has another meeting in New Plymouth tonight. He reaffirmed his and National’s total opposition to the ban on new oil and gas exploration, and was critical of Murray McCully’s unilateral decision for New Zealand to support UNSC resolution 2334, saying he believes Cabinet would not have voted in favour.

Bridges had a full house on a showery and cool winter morning in Whanganui, and looked and sounded like a leader. If you get the chance to hear him speak, take it.

        What ztev wrote was nasty, but probably not as nasty as a lot that has been written about Penny here. So I guess what you are saying is that you will try to register your disapproval more, even for views with which you agree, whenever such views are expressed in an abusive or intemperate manner.

Is Simon Bridges still alive? I’m worried about the boy.

He clearly got to where he is by playing the internal politics of the party. But can he play the electorate as skillfully. I doubt it.

I reckon he is not the one and National will lose the election. Scary but true.

    Yes your correct I’ve seen similar studies. The issue here is that men don’t report having an issue but women do. You simply can’t have a cubicle for every person in some buisinesses. I would also add that in some industries it works well, while in others not so well. The study reveals what many understand. Men and Women are different. Is the not working well studies mostly female workplaces because where I’ve seen it working well, they are mostly with male workers. Does this imply an employer must invest more and isolate female workers from others?
    Sounds wrong eh?

      Perhaps the men in those offices just weren’t decent eye-candy.
      
      I don’t ever recall ogling my fellow office colleagues, but I definitely checked out the firemen when we had alarm drills.

      Women are at their best when they represent a minority in the workplace and have a male boss. They typically have far more influence.
      
      Women are generally pretty miserable in a female dominated workplace with a female boss.
      
      It also hampers their efforts to sleep their way to the top. Everybody loses.

      Historically evolution over 100k + years of hunter gatherer evolution had women competing strongly with each other for resources in a tribe or small community. They couldn’t physically dominate so they had to use social weapons – gossip, cliques, cozying up to dominant men.
      
      Men however tend to be far more cooperative and reluctant to get into fights within tribe – because fighting is likely to lead to death, and poor cooperation will hurt hunting and defence against rival tribes. Women tend to survive being taken over by a rival group of men, but the men will all die.
      
      So bring those psychological adaptations forward into our world. Men mostly get along well with each other in the workplace, rare to see serious disagreement. But women if too numerous and unsocialised by presence of men will fall into malignant infighting and efforts to undermine and dominate each other that cripples productivity.

Weird times at Hillmorton Psychiatric Hospital in Christchurch. Nurses, mainly women, are getting battered by male patients.

The Hospital Board has supplied a security guard, but he’s not allowed to touch patients or intervene until nurses are attacked, so the assaults continue.

The Hospital Board reports it has working groups looking at the trouble, and they will report – within six months!

Winston says they can’t pay nurses more because they’ve got no money. He fails to explain that they had the money but spent it. Students and Pacific Islands got it. Vote buying is more important to Labour than nurses. I hope the nurses remember this in 2020.
