Seeing as he twice didn’t turn up on time for Garner’s show on TV3, is OK to call the Acting PM ‘The Late Winston Peters’?

    Ha, Winston’s first act as PM is to flood the country either cheap foreign labourers first Labour’s KIWIbuild. He has destroyed the regions, gone to war with exporters, crushed business confidence and given preferential deals with iwi and given welfare to foreigners ahead of New Zealanders.   The Newlands buses have had bike racks on the front of buses for maybe two or three years. But in all that time I’ve only ever seen one bus carrying a bike.

      So has the wind in Wellington reduced significantly since I lived there ten years ago? If not how do cyclists stay in their bikes? Given how hard it was to walk down a street in a gale I can’t understand why cycling is a thing in Wellington. Then there are the shitty inconsiderate drivers, who unlike Auckland, think that driving is a rally race, the rain slashing sideways. I just don’t get it. While driving into town on the motorway the car sometimes felt like it was being blown into the next lane.

        Wellington is not IMO as windy as it used to be. Maybe it’s a matter of getting used to it. But haven’t seen ropes on Lambton Quay corners for many years.
        
        One big advantage of being breezy – beautiful air quality. I moved to Wellington from Auckland and was amazed at the differance.

    In the days of little traffic congestion it was pretty easy for the driver to get out to help the Mums to get to their morning shop. Cyclists hooking up bikes in the buses during peak periods may cause delays. Although as very few will be doing it I guess it won’t matter. What a waste of ratepayer cash.

      Talking to a learned Medical person this morning she said that the Unions called off the strike this coming Thursday because the enquiries by the DHBs quietly has indicated that contrary to the Unions and the media that the staff are well satisfied with the offer.
      Having said this the DHB have in mind from their enquiries that they Unions would not get support as they keep telling us for these strikes.
      She said that it is the young University graduates who are the most vocal despite they have only been Nurses for a short period of time and they have been told that they are the cat’s whiskers in life and they can do anything.
      The more mature ones who have no real time for the Unions are pleased with the offers.
      But they do not know what the final offer upon which they have been told by the Unions that the strikes are off.

  An economist did a cost-benefit study between life imprisonment and the death penalty and concluded life imprisonment was more economic. This was because the hefty litigation and court costs in appealing a death sentence was greater than the cost of life imprisonment (the calculations would presumably have included interest ie using ‘discounted cash flows’).

    If you limited the appeals to only two, told the judges to get on with it, we would have cheap justice that not only is seen to be done, but is done.

        Agreed. There was a murder sentencing yesterday where the accused was sentenced to life with a rider that he was due for parole in seventeen years. This was his third strike and the judge commented that he made that special rider otherwise the animal would have nothing to look forward to in prison serving a natural life sentence. WTF!

    Its not really about cost, though. It’s about punishing murderers and ridding our society if the threat.
    
    Actually, I would support life imprisonment for murderers if:
    
    A) ‘life’ actually meant for the rest of their natural life without any possibility of parole and
    
    B) More importantly, if life in prison was made absolutely hell with poor food, poor heating, slave-like hard labour and corporal punishment for every infringement of the rules.
    
    If you murder another human being in cold blood, then you should be either killed immediately or made to live a life of pure hell until you literally wish you were dead.
    
    My recommendation for rape, serious assault, armed robbery etc would be to apply the same broad sentencing philosophy, but with perhaps shorter sentences (say only 20 years).
    
    This would do wonders to reduce the prison population, provided the conditions inside were occasionally ‘leaked’ to the public to make people aware of what they should expect if they murder people.

Went for a haircut yesterday. As a pensioner I handed over my $10, sorry now $13 (Min wage increase). Not complaining about the price just indicating the effect of government policies.
Don’t drive that much so only have to fill my car up every two weeks. Did it Monday, $2.15 per litre. Last time it was $1.99. Owner of petrol station told me expect $2.50 by September. And I don’t live in Auckland.

The accidental Government seems to have unfortunately found a place to happen but what a show it is turning out to be.     It’s really not fair that some couples can’t have babies – it shows how far we have to go to reach true equality.

“Are you sure?” asks the representative on the phone. “This is our most rigorous program.”
“Absolutely,” he replies, “I haven’t felt this good in years.”

The next day there’s a knock at the door; and when he opens it he finds a huge muscular guy standing there wearing nothing but pink running shoes and a sign around his neck that reads, “If I catch you, your ass is mine.”

      What are ‘traditional NZ values’? No-one currently would agree. Whatever the ‘majority’ value is, is declared to be ‘tyrannous’ and demanded to be ignored. If there still is a ‘majority’ in our fragmented, polarised world.
      
      Anything which deviates from the globalist liberal / Left – or Maori – view is deemed/declared to be ‘religious’ anyway on the basis it probably derives from white, heterosexual Christian tradition, as that is the ‘heritage’ of the majority of the country/western world and the basis of all of our past development.
      
      Conservatism, in common usage, implies either religious philosophy or greedy and exploitative capitalism, both being equally unpalatable. Any values deriving from any other faith are equally excluded. Science has been completely corrupted and biased by globalist liberal agenda as well.
      
      Finding ‘intelligence, commonsense, and great leadership skills’ is difficult enough. Finding it in a group with ‘traditional NZ values’ which don’t have/live any ‘traditional NZ values’ – or in reality, any ‘values’ at all – is a logical impossibility.

        It’s like the old saying about those who ‘can’t see the forest for the trees’.
        
        There are those who can’t see it, those who won’t see it for their own reasons, and a whole lot of people somewhere in between and on either side who go along loyally and/or to keep the peace.
        
        Whichever they belong to, the argument goes that if there is a forest to be seen, you need to thin the trees because they’re blocking the view – and there’s lots of uses trees can be put to in the meantime. Anyone who disagrees is clearly just trying to obscure the view and prevent fruitful industry. But clearly, there’s still trees in the way so you cut them down in ever greater numbers. And eventually you prove there is no forest. No life either.
        
        Of course, if they’d just walked away from the trees into open space and at a distance, they would have seen the forest. But that would take leaving the comfort zone and making an effort – and why would you bother when the trees are so immediate and obvious and an essential part of your meaningful existence which its your ‘right’ to live in, as is that of a ‘cleared view’.

I make no secret of my hatred of public works. So I came home yesterday afternoon and CityCare were playing around on the neighbour’s footpath about a metre from my driveway, apparently a pipe out to the road was leaking. So the bastards turned off the streets water supply and when I went run a tap there were air pockets in the pipes and I got bloody sprayed like in some primary school gag. Dripping wet I marched out to punch one of the scruffy 50-65 aged trade union pricks but by this stage they’d packed up and gone. I looked at what they had done for the day and they hadn’t fixed the burst pipe but they had closed it in and it was STILL leaking. To think John Minto’s main campaign policy for mayor was to stop the Chch council from privatizing this outfit says it all. Bloody hopeless.

  I’ve been observing some council works recently, workers turn up at 8am, stop for morning tea and then disappear. Consequently a job scheduled to take 2 months has now exceeded that time, and I reckon they aren’t even half way yet !
  
  If they happen to be on the job at lunchtime, you know that somebody from council is coming to check on the progress ! The job is repairing/replacing about 100mtrs of pathway, hardly rocket science !

      Guy 1 drives the truck.
      Guy 2 unloads and reloads the truck.
      Guy 3 unloads the water, billy and cooker, then connects everything up and calls the supervisor to check he doesn’t have leaking gas.
      Guy 4 checks the broomhandle for strength.
      
      Guy 5 drives the minivan.
      Guy 6 has a shovel and digs holes.
      Guy 7 has a shovel and fills in holes. He is also the smoker so is responsible for lighting the gas ring.
      Guy 8 places things in holes (not soil.)
      Guy 9 holds a piece of string.
      Guy 10 keeps up to date on facebook.
      
      Guy 11 drives a 4wd and holds a clipboard. He appears to be the boss.
      
      On occasions there is a Guy 12 who looks at trees and a Guy 13 who drives a council car and looks at holes.
      
      If Guy 6 is sick, then no holes are dug that day, and copious quantities of coffee are consumed to compensate.
      
      Whilst nobody assists Guy 3 to unload the catering equipment and victuals, Guy’s 1,2 and 4 swing in to action to reload the truck, which cannot depart until all equipment has been reloaded. Guys 5 to 10 are already at the local watering hole by this time !
      
      Is it any wonder they seem to spend all day walking around in circles and achieving not very much ?

Starting late, driving around, eating, smoking, going home early with barely any repairs and those potholes they did fill were poorly finished so didn’t last long. Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton rejected calls of civility in a recent interview, calling for “strength and resolve” to resist President Trump.

The Guardian reports that when asked about some on the left becoming “uncivil” recently, she responded:

“‘Oh, give me a break,’ she erupts, eyes widening into indignation. ‘Give me a break! What is more uncivil and cruel than taking children away? It should be met with resolve and strength. And if some of that comes across as a little uncivil, well, children’s lives are at stake; their futures are at stake. That is that ridiculous concept of bothsideism.’”

Turoa Skifield opened its season yesterday with more than a metre of snow on the upper mountain, and around 60cm more snow forecast on Sunday and Monday. Some years back the climate change proponents said that the New Zealand ski industry would die within a decade as the snow level rose too high for them to be sustainable.

Considering that Mt Ruapehu gets its best snow in August and through to mid-September, the folk that run the skifields are over the moon with their best condition to start the season for many years. So much for the prophets of doom.

        Maggy, as a scientist, of whatever field of expertise, you surely know that there is no such thing as ‘settled science’. So links that proclaim there is no settled science in climatology may be ignored as operating outside fundamental premises of evidence and exposition.
        Perhaps you should concentrate on papers that show a large, and rapidly increasing, body of evidence that demonstrates the changes in global climate, links those changes to the increased anthropogenic GHG emissions, and forecasts an increasing rate of temperature rise with ever-more reliability.
        So, you can do that and then stick your head in the sand if you wish, but reliance on fringe sources will only reinforce your fringe thinking.

NZ once made money from carbon dioxide. During World War 2 a factory in Christchurch made carbon dioxide for the United States Navy in the Pacific. It used the gas in fighters’ petrol tanks to prevent explosions in combat. Destroyers were sent to Christchurch for supplies..

  I encourage all shoppers to avoid supermarkets at Christmas because the fumbling by customers at the checkouts will be rife. Then there are self service lanes where items will be ‘overlooked’ by customers when they pack their own bags. This mad Australasian scramble to dispense with plastic bags is weird.     We use ours multiple times for newspapers and mags, so the tip gets them. I encourage you to visit factories and tell them to stop using plastic wrap on their products, then go to timber yards and do the same. The two dollar shops are worth a visit too.

  She who does the supermarket thing went today to a Countdown. Lady on the checkout been there a few years so her indoors asked what they thought of the ban on the bags.
  Have you an hour?
  Basically pisses them of as it now takes twice as long to put people through. And to make matters worse the brains trust at countdown have remodeled the checkout counters so there is no room to bag your own stuff. Even worse they have removed the newspapers, so if, like she who needs to be obeyed, didn’t realize, then they are way back thru the store. No sale.
  
  Of course the future is now, so, here is what is coming soon. You load your trolley, waltz up to the cash machine, push your card thru the slot and they take the money. No person in sight.
  Make sure you take your bags.
  
  Alternatively you can have it delivered if you can trust them. Wouldn’t do that with meat and vegs nor with bread.
  
  Warehouse is going the same way, Kmart’s are like a tip these days, no one to take any pride in the store, clothes everywhere.
  
  The question is;
  Why would you do this to your customers????
  
  As an aside to this went to Supercheap auto today.
  shop clean, tidy and well stocked. Staff there to help.

And I was talking about what would happen after conviction, which any fool would know will not result in the maximum penalty in the case of someone who may well be a first offender. Sale of Liquor Act offences are not Crimes Act offences and certainly don’t carry a 7-20 year sentence as RC suggested.   Sorry to burst your bubble but that is how things roll in all government agencies in Wellington. Their number one focus is to keep the government in power, not serve the public.
  
  In the case of the police it is even worse as they swear an oath to serve the government not the public. Anyone who thinks the police act independently is a boot licking idiot.
  
  Wellington is a rotten corrupt place and few would even believe how bad it is.

TV1 news reports thousands of foster parents have dropped out of fostering due to the lack of help and resources from Oranga Tamariki. Many, if not all of these children removed from their families and placed in foster care have psychological damage and are difficult to manage. Specifics of what help and resources would help wasn’t mentioned but I imagine it includes increased payments to make it more bearable for the foster parents.
Nothing is going to change until the feral parents are stopped from giving birth to unwanted children. The kids are the ones to really suffer in all this.

    The government is incentivising unfit mothers to have sex with random men for money. It is not about the welfare of children. It is about handouts for woman and the sole purpose is to destroy the traditional family and promote radical feminist ideology. A few thousand dead or abused kids are nothing to them.

I visited the Imperial War Museum near Lambeth North in London this afternoon.
Impressive displays, and well worth visiting. Very British-focussed, as you might expect. Occasional mention of Australia, but almost nothing about New Zealand. I think Japan got a bigger mention…
I would recommend the Holocaust exhibit to EAD_2. The take-home message (that fits the modern UK government narrative) is that racial purity is evil, and that tolerance and diversity are the only way. How nice. I wonder what the Chinese and Indian take on that is?
I’m off to Tokyo tomorrow morning. I miss the convenience store coffee badly.
England is a fine country.
