It seems you are in a spot of bother !

To make best use of the shallow pool of talent you have cobbled together, here’s how I suggest you re-allocate your Ministerial Portfolios:-

Take all candidates for positions, lock them in a room with one table and two chairs for two hours without instruction.

After two hours return and see what they are doing:-

The one who ignores you and doesn’t look up when you walk back in the room is your Minister for Justice, or Attorney General
The one who has taken the table apart, your Minister for SOE’s
The one counting the left over screws, your Minister for Finance
The one staring blankly, your Minister for Transparent Government
The one bullying others, your Minister for Police
The one picking his nose, your Minister for Resources
The one talking to the chairs, your Minister for Housing
The one writing on the walls, your Minister for Education
The one screaming and waving arms, your Minister for Defense
The one writing up his diary, your Minister for Arts Culture and Heritage
The one who tells you that it’s not as bad as it looks, your Minister for Health
The one who climbed out the window, your Minister for Corrections and
The one sitting in the corner with a bottle of whisky is your Deputy

and those doing nothing can chair your select committees!

Right of way is Way of Right

I am not so old that I can remember the saga that was Watergate, but it did occur within my lifetime. I turned 7 years old a month after Nixon resigned the presidency, but my focus was clearly elsewhere, dealing with the politics of the schoolyard and coming to terms with my new status as the child of a solo mother after the passing of my father at the end of 1973. Had I been the political tragic that I am now, I would have been poring over the papers every night and glued to the news at 6. Alas, the TV news was deemed not suitable for my viewing, with my mother remembering her experiences in Occupied Holland and her determination to spare my brother and I the horror of black and white images from Vietnam.

We remained blissfully ignorant of the world, and at the age of 7, why not. My attention was firmly placed in the realms of Hot Wheels and Lego. At the age of 7, ignorance is bliss.

However, as Jacinda Adern is rapidly finding out, ignorance is not the blissful state it was at 7 when you are 37, rather than 30 years younger!

As any political tragic will tell you, and as the Richard Nixon could no doubt attest, it’s not the wrongdoing that will sink you, it’s the cover up. I can only imagine it’s doubly bad when you are covering up for those who have been unable to cover up for themselves. This brings me rather neatly to the saga that is Claire Curran.

At best, Curran acted unwisely, at worst, she acted maliciously. Was she simply discussing the inner workings of the board of Radio New Zealand, or was she trying to engineer the removal of the National appointee Richard Griffin? We simply cannot be sure any more, as there have been so many half truths and obfuscations up to this point. Corrections to answers to parliamentary questions, continued reticence when asked to reveal the substance of the discussions that took place at the meeting, possible, nay, probable violations to the Cabinet Manual, and through all this, Claire Curran holds on to her Ministerial portfolios, including, ironically, the Minister for Open Government!

Once the PM became aware of this, she should have acted decisively. Instead, Jacinda continues to front and make excuses around the behaviour of this minister. Behaviour that, had it occurred while she was the Leader of the Opposition, would have had her screaming for the perpetrator to lose their ministerial warrants.

Any other Prime Minister worthy of the office would have kicked Curran to the backbenches so fast it would have given her whiplash! However, there she remains, in the second row, squarely in the sights of Melissa Lee. We really need to ask why Curran appears to be untouchable.

Now, Melissa seems to have a great source of information within RNZ. Good on her as well. She is using it to good effect, to the point where Claire has done a bunk to the Gold Coast. This hasn’t stopped the line of questioning, and it was Chris Hipkins who had to step up and try to deflect today. Beltway tragics await the return of Curran with ill-concealed glee. As well they should, this is a political train wreck. Because of the complete ineptitude of the Labour Party Leadership, they have painted themselves in to a corner.

As of now, they can’t sack her, they’ve protected her for too long. They can’t keep her there, she’s dragging down the entire leadership. She’s too bloody minded to quit, so there she remains. Around the neck of Jacinda Ardern like a giant ginger albatross.

This is something that could have been averted right at the start, if Jacinda had acted as a Prime Minister should have and sacked her. It’s far too late now, every option available is worse than the status quo, and even the status quo is pretty crap.

The last question that needs to be addressed is this; is the PM compromised? Is there anything else going on that we don’t know about?

Is there yet another cover up?

New Zealand deserves better than this shambles, and so does Dunedin South!

      I also wondered about the Warehouse closing in Kaikohe story yesterday. It appears they couldn’t sort out a new lease. Shane the Muss jumps up and down and within a few hours everything is fine and a new lease is being sorted. I’ve negotiated a fair few leases over the years and this doesn’t add up. Why would you not want the Warehouse to stay in a purpose built building? Who else would lease it? Just look at the old Pack n Save building in Kaitaia for the answer to that – and Kaitaia is doing far better than Kaikohe. I think the whole thing was designed a distraction and ultimately a feel good story but failed to fire, like everything else Cindy and co do.

        Hard TN for any feel good sentiments to be attached to Jones as he wriggles out of questions with a response like this regarding the Regional slush fund on the West Coast. At first he hadn’t seen the negative report on the project and then he had to which he said. “just part of a “Darwinistic bureaucratic debate”.
        “But I find there’s a connection between bureaucratic dross and political amnesia from time to time.” Labour must be frustrated after getting rid of him once he has returned even more of a clown than before.

        It simply means the Warehouse aren’t making any money out of Kaikohe. They can only bleed the beneficiares dry to a certain degree. There’s no more money to be scammed off the benes.
        Watch for other Warehouse stores to close doors in the low socio economic areas.
        They sign the poor people up with Warehouse cards and these people keep on spending and spending then find themselves in so much debt because they can longer afford to pay the card off.
        Farmers do it to their customers as well.

  Curren has never been a nice person if you read her paper on controlling the media she gave some years ago. Copies are readily available.
  Whilst I have no sympathy for Benson-Pope, now a Dunedin Councillor, the way that Curren dismantled him, with lies and obfuscation media supported, was a disgrace but she wanted the seat, which as a result of her Australian history she got.
  She back tomorrow – CC hasn’t the guts to do anything – there is more to come next week.
  Bet CC cannot wait to get away for six weeks ????

  I have good news.
  I heard Melissa Lee say this morning that the select committee had not ruled out getting Curran or Hirschfeld to appear before it to explain what they talked about at Astoria.
  Lee is playing a blinder.
  I think she knows what was talked about.
  You are right, Right of Way, that as Curran sinks beneath the waves, someone may be grabbing at her lapel – Cindy.

  Ah, a self-confessed political tragic on the planet more than 40 years, getting all excited at thinking there’s a politician who “at best, acted unwisely, at worst, acted maliciously” and who is surrounded by “many half truths and obfuscations.”

        Just where, exactly, did I say that this behaviour was a new development? Did I not place the whole thing in to context with political events that happened nearly 50 years ago??
        
        On Planet Key, Judith Collins resigned from Cabinet when she was perceived to have erred. She was subsequently exonerated.

      Just think how this “matter” would have played out if the individual concerned was of the Right. Think about the full-on witch-hunt for Barnaby Joyce in Australia and that was only about the sort of shagging around that Labour is characterised by.
      
      This “compromising position” is mooted to be related to matters well beyond he just a ‘bad look’ domain that BJ lost his job for.
      
      Still at least it wasn’t an international embarrassment about toilets in NY or LAX or wherever.

Record heat: Niwa reveals 2018 is New Zealand’s warmest start to a year, ever

The balmy first three months of 2018 has given New Zealand its hottest recorded start to a year, with mean temperatures soaring to 1.75C above average over the period.

The scorching start came amid our hottest summer on record and also included the sixth-warmest March ever observed in the country.

Niwa’s just-released climate summary for last month reported the three-month period was 1.75C above the 1981 to 2010 average.

That beat even early 1998, when one of our history’s biggest El Nino events was still meddling with the weather and temperatures came in at 1.51C above average.

  I once asked NIWA for data to replicate some of their findings. They were willing to give me “corrected” data but not the raw data nor disclose their “correction” methodology.

        Politics is all about obfustication and muddying waters so the plebs don’t grasp what is going on

        But MW it is why nobody puts any store in what NIWA utter as they never bothered to correct their CO2 uptake figure they UNDERESTIMATED by 70%. They just left it at a shock announcement but never offered a corrected “figure”. Even Treasury when they found their methodology was flawed corrected the anticipated children in poverdy that would benefit from the Family Package.

  So what? Even if the temperature has risen a bit, who the hell cares? It won’t lead to Armageddon nor kill off millions. In fact I suspect NZ would be a much better place to live and thrive if our winters are about 2-3c higher in a 100 years. This climate hysteria reminds me of the flying saucer rubbish so adored by the media in the 1950s.

    I don’t think anyone can predict how changes in technology will have affected our lives 100 years from now.
    
    If I had to guess, I would expect our main concern would be the efficient use of limited supplies of energy, and we would be looking back with bemusement at a time early in the 21st century when ignorant and misguided people were trying to find ways to cause more heat energy to leak out into space.

      No, we can’t, but I think some take the “she’ll be right, we will develop the methods to deal with [insert issue here] in the future” attitude too far. When I was young, some of my smoking friends weren’t concerned about health issues because we’d have found a cure for cancer by the time it was an problem for them.

Apparently we’re racing towards the every 300,000 year swap over of the poles combined with the modern solar minimum (replicating the mini-age that heralded the cooling of the planet when the Thames would regularly freeze over for months at a time), the magnetic Nth pole is already heading south towards Russia and the magnetic Sth pole is already clear of Antarctica and heading north.
    
    The rapid cooling that will happen over the next 20 years is already upon us – hence the severely delayed onset of spring in the Nth hemisphere.
    
    We’re approaching a period where food production is going to be massively reduced around the world and famines are going to be a thing again.
    
    We are also not hearing anything about the $5bn drought in Uruguay and Argentina which (as Argentina is a big grain producer) is going to push up world grain prices.

  The Warehouse and the Landlord have a disagreement over rent at the end of a lease, Shane blames the Warehouse. Here is a tip Shane, the Warehouse will have a percentage of turnover for rent and won’t go over it, because there business model is to make money.
  Projection on tree’s, if they manage to get 5% in the ground in their first term of government, it will be remarkable.
  So today they needed 2.3 Million at 5%, just can’t see them achieving even that, lets make it 1%.
  450,000 that sounds achievable, but the clocks ticking.
  Shane is now a protected species with a huge amount of cash to throw around, like Winston he can do and say as he pleases, not the way to run a country, but this is the peoples electoral wish.

I’m referring to her constant media whinging that estimates from 2 years ago (under Brownlee’s watch) on Chch earthquake re-repairs have increased, as she finger points at National.

No-shit sherlock Woods – they were estimates and over time as the extent of poor earthquake repairs become more apparent and the costs will rise. It’s now her job to manage that as Minister responsible – no doubt the figures will only increase yet again – so stop politicking otherwise she “will be blamed” for those next increases when the COL is turfed out of Govt next!

    I listen to Checkpoint most nights. John Campbell has been hammering away about various aspects of the repairwork consequent to the Christchurch earthquake for years; right back to his time with TV3.
    Lately he has spoken to various people about the increasing cost of rerepairs of EQC work, which is currently up over quarter of a billion dollars. The current Minister responsible for the EQC is Megan Wood and of course she’s pointing the finger at the previous Minister Gerry Brownlee.
    For some reason he won’t speak to Campbell.
    He’s been around for a long time. Surely he can hold his own with anyone? Is he afraid he might lose his temper as he did up at Kaikoura?

      I also hear Checkpoint & know Campbell has been doing Woods bidding. What he hasn’t mentioned has been the full details of the 2015 report cited by Espiner and find out what was done post the report, instead he had hyped up what Woods has fed him.
      
      Campbell does not do a good job.
      
      I’ve heard him in my specialist area, this week he allowed Twitford & JAG(uar) to get away with passing mythology as though it was informed reality.

  Given that there were 450,000 EQC claims as a result of the CHCH earthquakes, and now only 2600 (.6% of total) to resolve, I’m guessing that to much for Megan to handle so she’s mouthing off.
  Unfortunately my daughter is one of the 2600, and the latest changes made by Woods has in fact made it harder for us to resolve. She would have been better of to spent her energy on actually helping the EQC staff resolve the issues instead of politicizing the 2600 – Still an opposition MP unfortunately.

Am puzzled about these EQC unresolved claims.
By Legislation EQC can only pay $100,000 plus GST on an insurance policy earthquake property claim. No policy no claim.
I understand that many tens of thousands of the 400,000 claims have been paid – therefore where and why are EQC (us the taxpayers) expected to front up more and more settlements assuming that the cap has been paid, which I understand has been the case.
Full and Final settlements have been signed and the money paid – hasn’t it ?
Is the problem at 2,500 we are told, been with the second tier insurance, the Insurance Company not involving EQC ?

  Paulus. Where EQC botched repairs they have the same liability as any repairer would have for putting things right, even if this means activating an additional new $100K cap. In some cases EQC will spend more than another $100K fixing the botched repairs but it will still remain an ‘under cap’ claim handled entirely by EQC because the claim was always under cap and would have remained so had EQC done the assessment and repairs properly. Insurers don’t pick up the tab for EQC incompetence.
  
  ‘Full and final’ claim provisions don’t apply where EQC failed to identify the full extent of damage.
  
  If an EQC ‘repaired’ property is revealed on later investigation as having always been over cap, EQC is paying a second $100K (+ if damaged in more than one event) cap and the claim is passing to the insurer.
  
  Wood’s latest outburst against Brownlee is probably because she has opened a can with her blustering about enquiries etc, without understanding how many worms were inside and is now beginning to perceive the rapidly mounting exposure to the crown that her ramping up of expectations has generated.

    Paying a second $100,000 would be in breach of the EQC Legislation I think you would find irrespective off your contention.
    The problem arises perhaps in that after so called repairs many owners sold out, and it is possible that the new owners did not do due diligence before purchase finding poor original repairs.
    Their current insurers are saying – you are not our client so cannot help.
    A lot of red herrings are arising, but Woods will sort it all out as she and King said a month ago.
    She knows where the builders have now gone.

Kaikohe Warehouse business. I suspect that the fundamental problem is the fickle nature of commercial valuations in small town NZ. If a small town is booming and all shops, workshops and offices are fully occupied rents will tend towards those needed to justify the cost of new buildings. If however there are more than a minimal number of vacant premises, values will weaken and rents will also weaken. There will be uneveness so the situation can be quick fickle. Since Subway and KFC has pulled out, it seems Kaikohe commercial real estate values are weak and fickle. So this most probably led to a stand-off between the Warehouse and the landlord. Landlord would also be between a rock and hard place since he has a mortgage. So lease negotiations came to an impasse and The Warehouse played the ‘we are pulling out’ card. It now seems that Shane and the Mayor have managed to get the parties together and sort something.
I seem to recollect Bob Jones or his likes may have recommended against such real estate investment but it is easy to imagine a local retired cashed up farmer or businessman investing in the home town because he or she knows the town and the investment is something tangible that they can see each day as they drive pass.

    This is a big reason not to get into commercial landlording unless you know what you are doing and have sufficient capital to have some diversification.The average investor would be better off IMO to invest in listed property companies who have skilled managers and where the impact of a tenant failure, a tenant not renewing or earthquake damage is insignificant.
    I find it very interesting that professional and commercial organisations in general prefer to lease space rather than own premises outright. There are exceptions, for example oil companies and supermarket chains will purchase and develop properties ( and all the associated shenanigans like Shell buying the freehold of the former Mana Esplanade BP station, Foodstuffs buying Karori Mall with the objective of kicking Countdown out, Coles buying the freehold of the Woolworths Neutral Bay NSW supermarket, etc). But having developed the properties these firms will frequently sell them to investors with a long back-lease. However Foodstuffs for its stores will generally sell, take a head lease and sub-lease to the store ‘owner-operator’ so it retains control and has a ‘hold’ over the ‘owner-operator’.
    A similar scenario to the Kaikohe Warehouse case played out in nearby Paihia several years ago when the owner locked Countdown out of its shop when negotiations broke down.

    Welcome to the world of commercial landlording. Who says that The Warehouse needs to be in Kaikohe or any other place? Agreed the owner does feel pressured – either accept a rent that will keep The Warehouse in town or ‘jingle keys’ the property, except unlike USA the (ex) owner still has to meet any mortgage shortfall and could face bankrupcy. He could try and find another tenant at current rental but best of luck especially if there are vacant premises in the town. He took the risk when he purchased or developed the property.
    In the late 1980’s the lease for a small industrial property in Petone came to an end. Owner got an ultimatum from the tenant – 50% rent or we walk. Owner had to accept through clenched teeth. Same tenant is still there today.

peterwn, I agree with your comments, but it has nothing to do with value, it is all about percentage of rent to turnover as it is with wages and every other expense.
If they cannot make a dollar, they will pull the pin.
Maybe its hard, but it is reality.
I negotiated leases for a huge company many years ago, value only comes into it, if it drives up your turnover. In a small country town, location is completely irrelevant. The owner has made a commercial decision to invest good or bad, the warehouse will run a business if profitable, end of story.
The Warehouse doesn’t have an endless purse from the tax payer to make stupid decisions, Shane lives in a parallel universe thanks to the voting public.

  Agree in general. I knew a guy (now deceased) who established a small department store in Papakura. He and his wife were in the trade (he worked for a wholesaler and she was a buyer for a Queen Street department store). It was successful and he sold out to George Courts, retained the freehold and used the proceeds to purchase rubbishy (IMO) real estate. I wanted advice on how to do rent reviews and thought he could be helpful. He effectively said George Courts had him over a barrel and that was that. George Courts ceased trading and wanted to sell the lease on the basis the store was partitioned into two shops and my acquaintance agreed. If he was a skilled property investor and negotiator he would have looked for alternative leasing opportunities and not accepted being over a barrel.

This government really does hate the rural sector and to meet their obligations to the Greens they have cut the funding to the water irrigation schemes in the south. With an increased fuel tax, and now limiting drought relief, the COL have likely kicked off the increase in food production (higher inflation) and more misery for the struggling regions.
With Shane’s slush fund seemingly only being for Northland, are we seeing the start of the biggest rural/urban divide.

  In the case of the Flaxbourne Irrigation scheme in Marlborough, I doubt very much that it would be used to increase dairying – more likely to increase grape growing to produce wine. Dairying makes up only a very small proportion of land use in Marlborough and its not in the Flaxbourne area.
  Of course, all the haters on the stuff comments are raving about the evil dairy industry – about which most of them know very little – but who are prepared to dive into the Greens hysteria about water use.
  Fact is: wine is sexy and milk ain’t.

Yesterday Shane Jones Exchequer of the NZ1sts election campaign fund, a man so extreme, unruly and unrestrained (like winnie) that he got kicked out of a party currently lead by the former leader of the international youth socialist movement was threatening yet another private bussiness!

Yes threatening AirNZ for complying with the companies act, representing the interests of their workers, shareholders and the country by cutting unprofitable routes as opposed to running our only way in and out of the country into the ground wasn’t enough for him. He has moved onto threaten another strategic industry, the retail industry without which we would have no clothes, no vehicles, no food, nothing….

Someone needs to have a very public word or two about this sort of behaviour, the type of behaviour one should expect in a bannana republic and not a member of the OECD and an English speaking country.

And a type of bullying behaviour and complete and utter disregard for the private property of businesses and frankly speaking the vested interests of every NZer with a kiwisaver and shares in these businesses that is unbecoming of a member of parliament let alone a minister.

Ofcourse Airnz doesn’t want to shut lines down, they like planes, and they like filling them with people, if they don’t fly routes they cant put bums on seats and that doesn’t turn a profit, but they can’t afford to run planes around empty like busses just incase someone, someday, somewhere we have never heard of and will never go to decides they want to catch a ride to somewhere else equally obscure in the middle of nowhere….

Nor does the wharehouse want to shut down stores, no retail business that is based around brick and mortar stores, and in-store sales wants to shut down stores, because the only way they make money is to have profitable stores, that is why retailers everywhere are opening as many stores as they can, as fast as they can, in as many countries as possible…..

In both of these cases it is neither of these companies fault that there just isn’t really anything in it for them (or anyone else for that matter) to operate in these regions, the lack of money in these regions, particularly impoversihed northland lies at his feet as the minister of regional development, and is an issue he should be working on instead of chasing every business he can find out of the regions!

Yet if Shane Jones wants business to operate in the regions as opposed to trying to create an urban/rural divide for political gain then he should think very carefully about how best to attract investment in these communities, foster innovation, entrepenurship and investment, reduce unemployment, grow wages and meet the infrastructure needs that these communities require to grow.

Ironically if that is the case he is in the wrong coalition, because this anti-everyone and everything coalition with their cuts to motorways and highways which formulate the arteries of these regions, the anti-mining, anti-oil (drilling), anti-farming and anti-business mantra is just about the worst set of policies one could have, if they want the regions to prosper…

And any bussiness that isn’t involved in working the land, rivers or sea to extract or produce resources requires a degree of population and density necessary to maintain a sufficently large pool of specialized labor to meet the labour needs of business and that same density which produces the proximity to other businesses needed for industry to thrive. Unfortunately you don’t get that in the regions, and so you have towns like Whangare and Tauranga which are essentially just service centers supporting those people that work the land, and the sea and the rivers, and the surrounding tourist traps….

The point is that without the ability to work the land, rivers and the sea, to produce or extract from these, then aside from one or two or three or so places in NZ ideally suited for tourism there really is no business or job prospects…. And that is what Shane Jones should be working on, he should be working on promoting the rights of the regions to develop and exploit their natural resources, to meet their needs… And using that money to remove obstacles to those ends, be they lack of financing, lack of infrastructure, lack of skills and expertise, lack of transport or governmental or council roadblocks it doesn’t matter…

Unfortunately he is just obsessed with keeping every failing regional commercial loss-making activity alive…. And anyone thinking of investing in the regions, a daunting prospect given the small market size and shallow labour pool will be severely discouraged and disincentivized if they think that if the endeveour is a failure, that they can never leave and will just loose money in-perpetuity….

I see the idiot and distasteful PC lynch mob are still after Israel Folau, with the help of Andrew Alderson at the NZH. Heaven help us all, Israel Folau dares to have a faith and opinion.

Alderson states:
“The moral outrage was understandably swift and fervent, such is contemporary society’s protocol when anything is uttered – or typed – outside perceived norms…Israel Folau is not competing at the Games, but is indirectly linked via his marital connection…His wife will now be questioned on the matter if the opportunity presents at the netball, until she clarifies how her views compare or contrast to Israel’s…She will need one hell of a mental mindset to block that out when poised under the hoop.”

No-one has any more right to question Maria Folau on her beliefs than they did Israel. Or are they going to ask the question of all Commonwealth Games participants and sports representatives everywhere as a pre-requisite for their participation? I would suggest, particularly to be ‘sporting’, it’s all or nothing.

So, all this ‘outrage’ is likely to affect the sports performance of Israel Folau and Maria Folau. I have to ask – is the Instagram user, Mike Sephton-Poultney, who asked the original inappropriate question, the same one who is Senior Trader at World Sports Betting or someone else? Is there a point to this moral lynching and disruption of sports performance?

In the style of the moronic world of the ideological, fascist, lynch mob, Alderson goes on to say:
“Curiously, Folau was a face of the Bingham Cup, an amateur gay rugby tournament, in 2014. In March 2015 he came out against homophobic slurs allegedly uttered in a Super Rugby match between the Waratahs and the Brumbies. At the time he told Australia’s ABC radio: “Rugby’s a game of inclusion where everyone is welcomed in. I don’t think there’s any of that [homophobia] within this club and also within the game of rugby.” What the hell? Something doesn’t add up.”

Yes, it does add up. Israel Folau has a faith which he is prepared to share. He doesn’t expect the rest of the world to necessarily agree with him and certainly doesn’t require it to show support and respect to others going about their lives in their own way. He is clearly a far more mature human being than the moronic and ‘outraged’ ideological, fascist, moral ‘dwarves’ attacking him, who are insistent that everyone must think and voice the ‘right’ beliefs and opinions. Anyone who supports this strategy and behaviour to him – and even moreso to his wife – DESERVES to go to HELL, certainly in this life.

Just as an aside, I recently came across a situation which will remain confidential. Let’s just say the equivalent would be, in this situation, the nominated St Johns Ambulance ‘medic’ to the All Blacks stated that Mr X must be banned from the team because the ‘medic’ could not force himself/herself to provide appropriate medical treatment if Mr X was hurt, due to comments the ‘medic’ didn’t like Mr X having made online (no, not about gays).

Is that an appropriate stance or values?

This behaviour has gone far too far. I used to have some empathy with the gay lobby – back when they actually had an axe to grind – as I did with the women’s movement. Now, they’re largely corrupt and controlling and more a social evil, setting very bad examples for other people to follow.

There seems to be so many scandals attached to this Govt it is hard to keep up, but I can’t find anything on Stuff etc about Shane Jones and the $350K he gave to some crowd on the West Coast.
Only Radio NZ seems to be running with this.

Apparently Jones was warned by his department that a key player in the organisation was under fraud investigation.
Jones said no, he received no warning.
The staff in his dept then issued the emails that warned him (badges for courage, fellas).

Jones said OK he was warned, but he forgot.

So he was warned not to grant $350K then two days later gave it away anyway, ‘cos he ‘forgot’…
Being Jones, he tried to make a joke of it, saying his brain is too small for all the information he is being given.
In what sort of Government can a minister be given $1B to distribute and immediately say he can’t remember a warning about a fraud investigation after 2 days ?
Who should take responsibility for Jones ? Ardern, or the invisible Mr Peters ?

In a week, and a year on ongoing Govt ineptitude, this strikes me as being up there with the worst. $350K is not an insignificant amount to taxpayers.

  When someone challenged me, I went looking all around the world at the cost of rail.
  Found the cost “making” a railway (just the rails)
  $USD30million per Km in the countryside
  $USD50-70 million per Km in a city
  Not including the stations, trains or carriages
  The best comparisons include a 30 year life span and maintenance/ replacement over that time.
  All showing an inability of them to actually recoup

      Most rail freight in america is east-west, coast-to-coast, and then on ship or truck to destination. They don’t run trains between every town and city, the only thing closely resembling a city that we have in NZ is Auckland, and all the other ‘cities’ have their own ports….
      
      I wouldn’t go comparing us to the UK or China in terms of rail freight, may as well compare us to china with 1.4bn people….

        After the rails
        Trip would take a few weeks and you were likely to get there safely.
        In today’s terms that would mean a flight to London would take about 2 hours.
        So not the case any more, where rail is the technological advantage. It is just an alternative. Ask anyone in the logistics industry, they’ll tell you that in NZ rail is about 50% more expensive and about half as fast to transport goods.
        That, BTW, still needs trucks for distribution to & from the terminal.

      They had their own shunting yard.
      Loading the train ready to leave 3 days.
      Transport to Wgtn including loading on the ferry 2 days, reassemble the train in Picton 2 days, send to Chch. 1 day disassemble the train and load trucks for distribution 2 days.
      ie 10 days and still not one Kg at site
      20 trucks 1 day loaded and at Wgtn
      
      1-2 days delivered directly to site
      2 days back
      2-3 days for 10 trucks to repeat.
      300 tonnes delivered to site in 6 days by truck
      10 days to load out at Christchurch by train, plus

        I remember once the girlfriend of an owner came to work recommending we back the nag…but none of us took any notice. Kicked myself when it came in paying over $10, and I then remembered owners and trainers seldom if ever give out that sort of info.
        
        My dad was the mate of a trainer, and he used to help drive his horses to race meetings. The trainer once gave him the tip one of the two horses in the float they were towing would run well that day…but such was his code of ethics it was up to my dad to try and find out which one, plus its name and the race when they arrived at the racetrack! ?

So here is what he doesn’t state.

It’s fucking racist to say it’s racist to take whites. Isn’t it. If it’s racist to take them, then the converse of the logic is that is it racist to not take them because they’re white.

Blacks are killing blacks in South Africa at a high rate because that’s what inter-tribal conflict and a low IQ society does.

However, the difference is that the whites are being killed systematically as government policy, not due to mere proximity in combination with a lawless low IQ society.

Blacks killing each other at higher rates is completely irrelevant.

The Whites in South Africa have nowhere else to go. No non-white nation will do anything except cheer their genocide and persecution. When they defend themselves, they’ll be accused of white Nazi ethno-nationalist terrorism, and all the surrounding African nations will send their militaries.

The argument is even more profanely and profoundly stupid re the Christians in Syria. Everyone here needs to watch Stefan Molyneux’s video on South Africa with Simon Roche. Roche gives a lot of historical background. Just a few points.

The Boer have been there since 1653 when Dutch Calvinists arrived at the Cape of Good Hope. They’re also comprised by French Huguenots fleeing from the recocation of the edict of Nantes, and German Lutherans – all were there and settled by 1700. So the Boer have been there since before Europeans were in the United States, being told they’re to be treated at law as ‘guests’ at law by their government lol.

The primary way they annexed land was simply through settlement. Around 1800 the most generous estimates were of a black population of maximum 3million. After Zulu wars pronounced sth like ‘imphetani’ there were only 1 million left. They wiped out two thirds of their own numbers, as of around 1840. Most of the land the Boer occupy was simply abandoned and depopulated.

Just two more facts. Since 1994, according to Roche, 74,000 whites have been murdered. Which means a 3 year old white girl in South Africa has a higher mortality probability then if she’d been in the Vietnam war.

Their currency has devalued by a factor of 27. Since 1994.
More people are murdered every week in South Africa then died under internment during the entirety of Apartheid.
The black population in South Africa was only 5million in 1950. By 2000 it was 40 million.
People like the Guardian journalist are calling apartheid ‘genocide’ when it enabled one of the largest fastest population increases in the history of the world.
5 million to 40 million within two generations.
Some of that growth was Blacks walking across the Serengetti risking being eaten by lions because South Africa was the only country in Africa with clean water.
In 2003, a national survey, never repeated, showed 60% of South Africans wanted apartheid back. Then means millions and millions of blacks.
The ANC is a government of corrupt incompetent, vicious, violent, communist swine.
The South African government that handed over power in 1994 could have turned South Africa into a world superpower. Just the platinum in South Africa is worth more then all the oil Saudi Arabia. That chance is gone forever.
Listen to what the leaders of the ANC and the other SA parties are actually saying. It’s quite incredible.

    What was funny was seeing one of the typical PC SJW – especially one so young who thinks being a celebrity grants you some sort of special wisdom with a right to criticise others – being unthinkingly hoist by their own petard.
    
    I heard her recent efforts have flopped. I would think it was the (arrogant, contemptuous, and really somewhat bizarre) dancing effort that did the damage. The fans out there may be often slavishly devoted but they’re not devoid of aesthetic sense.

  As one born and bred in the ‘Naki I’m happy Slush Fund fever has hit the region. It could go to a lot worse causes or regions with lazy liberal entitled fucktards rather than the stoics that denote the population here. But Jonesey is missing the mark if he thinks these initiatives are going to attract overseas tourists. It’s a matter of geography. All the American tourists we’ve talked to land in Auckers and travel straight down the middle. Waitomo, Rotorua, Taupo then Welly. Quite often they don’t even make it South. We’ve got an itinerary we fire out to friends but it doesn’t include the Naki. Because if you veer off the course there is no time to see any of the real tourist attractions like the mudpools, LOTR etc.
  Jonesy should put some grands into promoting tourism to Taranaki from Australia and within NZ. Because that mountain is spectacular and to grow up with it in your back yard each day is a privilege.
  There should be a proper skifield or two. That might attract some tourism. And designate Opunake as a surfing hotspot with some competitions.

A female Muslim Immigrant, now a lawyer, Saziah Bashir, criticises the Immigration Department for recording the ethnicity of overstayers.

Looks as thought the now-old tactic of demanding an end to “profiling”, may be a new tool of those driving the movement of Islam into the West.

Here is part of what Bashir says in an opinion spot provided by Radio New Zealand (surprise!):

“And while the use of these profiles may start in the case of overstayers, who are admittedly in the country illegally, there are already suggestions their use is bleeding into the denial of visa applications outright. This slippery slope, that the use of such profiling might be applied in the wider context of immigration is of real concern.”

Sounds to me she is saying a country does not have the right to choose which people it allows in as immigrants.

What’s it to be folks? Will multiculturists destroy international borders and end the concept of nations?

So flights have been delayed again at Auckland Airport because of a drone sighting. It’s time to stop fucking around with trams and ghetto housing Mr Twyford and do your job as Minister of Transport and introduce some urgent legislation into the House in conjunction with the appropriate Ministers to provide some meaningful deterrent penalties before an aircraft is downed. The same with laser strikes.

  I have a Drone, I have taken it to Hawaii and Alaska.
  The height restriction is 400 feet or 120 meters. Now even if you fly a Drone close to the Airport, a plane will not be coming in at under 400 feet until it hits the tar.
  The penalties are already there, no need for Govt bullshit, just enforce the penalties BIG TIME.
  These Drone fuckheads are hacking the software/firmware and yeah, sometimes going up to 5000 feet in a Mavic Pro.
  Spoiling it for the rest of us.

  I would really like to see that.
  
  Just as a matter of interest (which many will loathe), the problem of Sodom and Gomorrah before they were destroyed was not that the people were engaging in homosexual acts.
  
  It was that they refused to tolerate anyone not prepared to encourage and/or engage in those acts. And if people wouldn’t comply voluntarily, force should be used.

Two things of interest in an update on 78 year old Mr Osborn-Brooks being charged with murder while defending his home. There’s been a lot of outrage in the UK as well with most claiming he is a hero.

Firstly, article covering facts about the burglar and family and their long-term crime spree:

Secondly, and very interestingly, under UK law which has been tested in the High Court:

“Householders can use a disproportionate level of force against an intruder in their homes if they reasonably believe it is necessary, the high court has ruled.”

Judges ruled that the “householder defence”, which relieves people of the responsibility of making fine judgments about proportionality in the heat of the moment, so long as it is necessary, was compatible with European human rights laws.

The Crown Prosecution Service’s guidance says that “anyone can use reasonable force to protect themselves or others, or to carry out an arrest or to prevent crime”.

It adds: “You are not expected to make fine judgments over the level of force you use in the heat of the moment. So long as you only do what you honestly and instinctively believe is necessary in the heat of the moment, that would be the strongest evidence of you acting lawfully and in self-defence. This is still the case if you use something to hand as a weapon.”

Grossly disproportionate force, such as a “calculated action of revenge” would not be covered, it says.

Seems NZ is a long way behind the times – and far from reason and rationality.

    Just make sure the first shot kills the bastard. Always aim at centre of mass and squeeze the trigger gently, so you don’t pull the rifle to one side. Best way to practice this is to dry fire with a coin balanced on the end of the barrel. When you can squeeze the trigger and not dislodge the coin, you have the right action.

A silly woman who is president of the nurses association was on TV tonight claiming nurses have suffered bullying ” for the last 9 years”. She said this twice implying that it was all the National government’s fault. This was on The Project and one of the panel members said she had asked her nurse mother about this. Her mother told her there has always been bullying in the nursing profession and that she had been bullied in the 1970s. I’m not surprised, women en masse can be really nasty. So the stupid bint trying to make it political and anti National didn’t win that one.
