As it is now 3 months or more since we found out about the Liabour sex camp scandal, I thought we might help the police in their enquires.
What we do now is the following;
He was a son of some senior MP or Liabore party hack.
He wore a beard at the time of the assault, now shaven off.
He was a sleazy 20 year old.
Does he have some connection with Meagan Woods in Christchurch? (Was one of the complainants her step daughter? I ask this because I am confused as to why one of the complainants would be in contact with her)
Liabour seem to think they have put this to bed, that the public have forgotten all about it. It needs to be kept in the public eye.

Anything I have missed? Please add to the list.

  Holy: Do we know all of this with certainty? I hope so. How do you suggest the matter be progressed as the last time it was aired the victims didn’t seem to want to take it further? The fact that “he” wore a beard at the time doesn’t exclude some Labour supporting women or a visiting Green woman being the culprit.       I was having a quiet drink (a lovely, smokey Laphroaig) with the CEO of a tertiary institution on Friday night, and was told first year enrolments this year at the institution she manages are the same as they were in 2017.
      
      There has been no influx of school leavers into tertiary training, but all those who have enrolled for the first time are having a ball, thanks to the generosity of Jacinda picking the pockets of taxpayers such as Kiwiblog readers, herself and me.

  Nat Radio this morning: almost everyone complains of ‘underfunding’: mayors re infrastructure, Minister of Health, Early Childcare workers. I then got bored and switched off – always the same message: they all want more money and Labour will be the one to give it to them, via more and more tax.
  
  Simon Bridges sounded pretty good, but was far too polite when Susie Ferguson kept putting words into his mouth and loudly interrupting him. She afterwards claimed he’d said things that he most certainly did not say re the regional development fund’. He explained things far too subtly for her to understand, it seems. That is now the Radio NZ headline, Susie Ferguson’s words, not his: ‘National Party pledges to scrap regional fuel tax’.

  This is pretty obvious. If National moves to the right there are only two sources for extra votes:
  1. A portion of NZ First votes.
  2. A portion of votes possibly from those who could not be bothered, abstained or voted Labour/Green out of spite last time.
  In return, some votes would go to Labour/ Greens.
  All those who think that if National moved right, returned to so-called ‘founding principles’, etc a heap of votes would drop out of the sky, they are dreaming.
  
  Possibly the most lucrative source of extra votes are current Green voters who voted Green for its environmental (as distinct from ultra left wing) policies.

    Not obvious to me. The country has been moving to steadily to the left, and the reason is that Labour has adopted left of centre policies and just kept plugging away at them until people either agree, or vote Labour because they get tired of National or dislike National for reasons other than policy. Then National promptly makes their policies more left wing to match.
    
    That is not a recipe for anything other than a slow but inevitable decline. Labour has not spent as much time in government as National but is winning the long game.
    
    The current situation where the Labour led government is divided and confused, is a perfect opportunity for National to just stick with policies well to the right of centre and ask voters to vote for them either because they agree with those policies or because the other side are just a bunch of donkeys.

    NZ had gone discreetly left by 1957. Now we have gone stupid. There is an expectation that those promoted to high office are capable. That is not what has happened–we have been delivered a bunch of wishful thinkers with no understanding of the nature of NZ society, economics or economic history. Even worse they seek to be their own consultants.
    
    We need a mechanism to protect NZ from this situation and to to be able to correct it. Electorate MP’s are scrutinised for general competency–list members are selected on unknown criteria.
    The body politic in the centre is fine and there has been a bit of turn-taking over the years with any excesses self correcting. Now we may not be able to correct misdirection, budgetary blowout and a possible wage price spiral. One small government can cause a mountainous fiscal mess.
    
    It’s blinkers off time and disruptive protest if necessary to frustrate the and prevent the economic damage proposed to be inflicted by incompetents. If they can’t be removed they have to be prevented.

      What we need is a written and entrenched constitution, something that limits the power of the state to redistribute wealth.
      It would also need to stop the government passing laws from which it is exempt.
      A limit on the debt that the government can take on would also be a good thing.

        Suggestions:
        
        1. Increase the party MMP threshold from 5% to 6% or even 7%.
        
        2. Limit appointment to the Executive to those who have been elected by ballot in a electorate seat.
        
        3. Create a Recall Petition mechanism whereby 10% of the total of those voted in the last election can require Parliament to be dissolved by the Governor General and a fresh election held on the Saturday nearest to 92 days from the acceptance of the petition by the Clerk of Parliament. The cost of such can be funded by granting the amount provided for the immediately previous election election plus 3%.
        
        This Recall Petition is not to be a debating issue but be acceptance be affected once the Clerk is sure as to formalities.
        The Chief Justice or appointee to supervise.

    All makes perfect sense peterwn …. if you are hopelessly progressive.
    
    I suspect exactly the same logic was applied to prove that:
    – Trump had no path to victory
    and
    – Brexit was never going to happen
    
    But the fact remains were at a generational change point. Generation snowflake is no longer in ascendancy, pussy hat wearing and facebook filters are now thought of as only things sad unfashionable fucks do.
    
    The well of “tolerance” has been used up around the world and the constituency for centre right politics is on the rise. The King Canute analysis that relies up NZ being 3-5 years behind major world political trends doesn’t hold water. We are part of a system, even if we’re the last bus stop on the planet – everything gets here by osmosis. The good, the bad, the right, the left.
    
    This is why Labour are going to so hard out to wreck the playing field, they know this is their last hurrah until the pendulum swings back in another generation.
    
    And buying into the Chicken Little Climate Alarmism scam is just really, really stupid. More and more scientific papers are published every week where researchers are putting distance between themselves and the effect of CO2 as (surprise, surprise) it’s becoming more obvious that the source of all heat in the solar system is the thing that has the largest effect on our climate. And political parties that have tied their flag to that green elephant are going to look pretty fucking stupid.
    
    But sadly, it looks like National are following your prescription and are working hard to make space for a new centre-right movement to emerge. Look to Australia for how National as a third party might look.

    The experts in Wellington ring are saying that the Greens are pissing all over Labour and NZF and there is nothing that they can do to stop the Greens policies getting whatever they want.
    Pundits are pushing Greens to 12% – 15% in the next election from disaffected left wing Labourites and NZF will not feature.

        Quite so; the Whanganui iwi (Ngāti Hau, Te Atihaunui) do not pronounce the H in a “wh” sound. For example, you often heard Dame Tariana Turia refer to whanau as “wanau”.

      One of the reasons to learn a language is to gain access to the knowledge stored in media (books, etc.) in that language. Another is to gain new insights into ways of sensing the world. An example of this is the rich vocabulary of onomatopoeic expressions in Japanese that can add depth to artistic expression. If a language has a dozen different phrases for the sounds that are is made when you walk across autumn leaves, think of the richness of autumnal poetry in that language.
      For me to be prepared to invest the time in learning Te Reo, I need to know what kind of resources and insights I can gain access to. How large is the corpus of Maori poetry, drama, short stories and novels?

        Japanese is an active language of a large nation. Maori is a composite of local dialects of separate tribes who never coalesced into nationhood. The depth in the language is hidden from those without chiefly status to be privy to the ancestral secrets. Otherwise it remains a basic hunter gatherer language.

        Because, just as a polite person (and I believe the Japanese value that quality) would make the effort to pronounce it “Pa-ree” when one is in the country where French is spoken, it is also polite to make the effort to pronounce Maori correctly in the country where it Is used, as Proper Nouns at least.
        
        And I’m sure that when Japanese in Paris, they do not behave like those ghastly archetypal American tourists who make no effort to converse with the locals in French, insist the Arc de Triomphe would look so much better with a flashing neon Chrysler sign…and, hey buddy, where, by the way, is the nearest McDonalds? ???????

        There is a balance between politeness and respect for one’s native language.
        Incidentally, the Japanese pronunciation of the French capital is “pa-ri” which ought to keep the French happy.
        
        As an aside, the Japanese language is rich in onomatopoeic expressions. For example, in Japanese, “pari” is the sound of someone biting into a crusty loaf. In English, the word would be “crunch.” So, you can imagine the jokes in Japanese when someone nibbles on a French baguette and they go “pari,” “pari,” “pari.”

    And like any product in the public domain, you are allowed to like it, treat it with indifference, or vocally loathe it, be it for reasons substantial, inconsequential or trivial. Including if you don’t like him, his allegedly smarmy demeanour, his family or household associations, and his politics.

Basically the British Hospital and the British High Court of Justice have unilaterally decided that they know what is in the best interests of 2-year-old Alfie Evans rather than his parents. And they have ruled that it is in the best interest of Alfie Evans to die.

And they refused to release him into the care of his parents. They refused to let the Italian government take him to Rome for treatment at the Italian government’s expense. And they unilaterally stopped feeding him and giving him fluids.

Where did they get this mentality? They got it from the godless thinking of euthanasia about quality of life and dignity of life and it is in the best interests of some people to just die.

Those of us who are Christian understand that all life is valuable to God. And a properly Christian nation cares for all of its citizens, including very sick 2-year-olds.

This is the most appalling thing I have seen for many a year. And unfortunately if we continue to countenance euthanasia and abortion these things will continue. We must stand up for the dignity of all human life, from the oldest to the youngest. Then we will be a decent society of which we can be proud.

    But it is the decision of the parents not the state and this is my main issue with what happened. I agree the child was going to die but the contrast with what happened to Alfie and his parents and what I am watching in NZ with a child who I suspect has the same disease is shocking.

      You can say it should be the decision of the parents rather than the state, but that rests on the parents making genuine and responsible decisions.
      
      In a situation where multiple doctors, globally, agree the child is going to die – notwithstanding that some would love to experiment with him/his condition as they always have – these parents simply refused to accept it. They focused entirely on the unspecified diagnosis to maintain that the doctors were wrong, against all physical facts.
      
      I know exactly how obnoxious medical staff can be – the smarmy, snide looks and comments that reinforce that they have the qualifications, reputation, and power to act like God and totally disempower families.
      
      But the medical staff did not set out to kill Alfie; neither could they deny the progressive destruction of his brain or the reality that he would die. They would be deficient indeed if they meekly handed him over for experimentation by others with the best possible outcome being a vegetative state year after year. About the only thing you could say is that the Italian doctors claiming to be able to provide improved care should have gone to the UK and any suggestion of alternative treatment stated and heard – but they didn’t offer to do that.
      
      There’s also the self-righteous proclamations from the parents that Alfie wasn’t ‘suffering’. No-one knows that – what’s going on inside what consciousness he had.
      
      There is no excuse for deliberately torturing someone completely vulnerable and lots of scenarios where parental rights are suspended. They all have in common adult obsession with what’s good for the adults rather than their ‘child’.
      
      Alfie was dying, certified by multiple doctors and Courts. That is the best system human beings can come up with. The parents were simply in denial – as far as I’m concerned unhinged – encouraged by a well-meaning, deluded mob. It’s becoming a very unfortunate trend.
      
      Rest in peace, Alfie.

  The issue in this particular case is what care was going to be provided in Italy and/or the Holy See. If there was indeed a promise from the Italian government to meet the cost of caring for the child in a conventional Italian hospital then perhaps the Court should have allowed the parents to take this up. The media reports also did not clearly state the basis on which the child was granted Italian citizenship. The child may have been entitled to Italian citizenship via patriality rather than through a special grant as implied.

If the hospital doctor considers that such a transfusion is necessary, the Hospital will apply to the Court to make the child a ward of the court and to consent to the transfusion. Once the transfusion is given, the order making the child a ward of the court is revoked.

    The dying with systems shutting down don’t seek food or drink. Many are comatose. With palliative care pain will be taken care of and the relatives on standby will be in a more fraught state than the patient. A good death can be very peaceful.

    No one here is disputing how the parents feel and have reacted, Scott. Many of us would feel the same, and may even try to do the same.
    
    But you are pushing a false dichotomy. The state also has a duty of care concerning the welfare of the child. And irrespective of whether the prospective treatment was in Italy, or Alfie was suffering from cancer and the proposed treatment was in some quack clinic in Mexico run by a new version of Milan Brych, the courts acted in what they considered the (British) child’s best medical interests. Including to end needless, irreversible and increased suffering, where, in the opinion of British medical experts, there was no realistic hope of recovery, and “life” was only being preserved by artificially administered means.

      I agree – and I’m a Christian. I’m not aware of any realistic ‘treatment’ being offered – in the sense of restoring Alfie to a functioning human being.
      
      We could keep all the ‘brain dead’ alive on ventilators in the hope of recovery. What good would that do? It’s macabre at worst, as scientists experiment on the bodies, and delusion at best.
      
      You also have to wonder how a couple of 20 year olds have the money for endless Court cases and flying to see the Pope. Perhaps I am a sceptic, but it seems to me the whole thing became an ‘industry’ for the parents, perhaps one promising ongoing financial support, not least through fundraising campaigns but also perhaps by those doctors who wanted to use Alfie’s body.
      
      Keeping a baby in that condition is not what I call ‘love’. What they subjected the hospital and all the other patients (and families) to is not ‘love’ either. They created an atmosphere of violence and fear, not to mention distrust in the health services for all those reliant on them, especially those in the hospital at the time.
      
      At best these parents were deluded and unhinged. At worst, they were shamefully exploiting Alfie and society. Let’s remember that of his 23 months, 7 of them were spent ‘normally’. The subsequent 16 were in intensive care, deteriorating and dying. That should be enough.

        The Courts made the right decision because it was the only rational one; the only truly compassionate one to everyone, especially to Alfie.
        
        There is nothing indicative of any ‘sanity’ in the existence of court battles. Everyone has the legal right to court action and it would be an extremely brave (or stupid) court which refused to hear an action about the medical treatment of a child. There is no subject, anywhere, on which you will not find ‘diametrically opposed opinions’ either, without any of them necessarily implying any validity. There’s no end of people wanting to jump on bandwagons, especially those which involve lots of ‘feeling’, ‘love’, ‘hurt’, infringed ‘rights’, dying babies, etc. This is the ‘age of victimhood’.
        
        I could say that the parents have clearly been in ‘denial’: a psychological defense mechanism in which confrontation with a personal problem or with reality is avoided by denying the existence of the problem or reality.
        
        Not only is that not ‘normal parental instincts’. It is the antithesis of them – because the life and wellbeing of every child is totally dependent on parents recognising and responding to reality. The day should not come when parents are encouraged to believe that engaging in denial of reality is an appropriate foundation to parenting.
        
        That denial is a stage in grief is accepted, but not when parents become stuck in that stage permanently, holding the child, themselves, a country, and a whole continent to ongoing ransom. That is simply an unhealthy and abnormal pretence – for everyone.

Tomorrow is D-Day for Charter Schools. If CS’s haven’t caved and preparing to be absorbed into the ‘state’ school system they will have to close. Talk about ideology trumping success and children getting the education they need. Many of these children succeeding at charter schools are from the wrong side of the tracks and finally getting some control and improving their dysfunctional and disappointing lives. Proof that this out-of-control CoL union run bunch are ideologically driven, and so much for Cindy saying during the election that children are central to government. What utter nonsense from the CoL!

      1. Increase the party MMP threshold from 5% to 6% or even 7%.
      
      2. At least 3 members need to elected by ballot in an electorate seat for a party to be recognised.
      
      3. Limit appointment to the Executive to those who have been elected by ballot in a electorate seat.
      
      4. Create a Recall Petition mechanism whereby 10% of the total of those voted in the last election can require Parliament to be dissolved by the Governor General and a fresh election held on the Saturday nearest to 92 days from the acceptance of the petition by the Clerk of Parliament.
      
      This Recall Petition is not to be a debating issue but acceptance be affected once the Clerk certifies as to formalities. The proroguing of Parliament and the fresh election to follow automatically.
      
      The cost to the parties can be funded by granting the amount provided for the immediately previous election election plus 3%.
      
      The Chief Justice or their appointed Justice to supervise.

Ring-fencing Rental Property Losses:

When you have more than one job all your income is added up and you pay tax on the total income amount.
For instance, your primary job pays $60,000 per year and your secondary pays $10,000 per year so you pay income tax on the $70k – just the same tax as if you had one job at the $70k.

Similarly, if your secondary income is a part-time business that returns you a net $10,000 per year the same rules apply.

So if your part time business, in that particular year, shows a net loss of $10k then you can deduct that loss and pay tax on your total income of $50k.
It matters not if your part-time business is retailing fidget spinners through TradeMe, boarding cats, catering at the bowling club, or renting out a residential house to tenants – under tax law exactly the same rules apply in each and every case.

So this is not some special tax lurk that only applies to landlords. It applies to each and every taxpayer.

Those who want those rental losses ring-fenced are actually asking for a special tax law that would only apply to landlords and to nobody else.

Why penalise landlords – and only landlords – in this way?

    Yes, though it is a timing issue as most rentals become cash flow postive over time due to paying down principal and rents rising. Then they pay income tax.

        I don’t think that’s the reason, Brett. OK, this last election the Taxinda fairy dust definitely had an influence. But generally I’d say more women vote Labour because they are more likely to be on benefits, need more healthcare and childcare and more likely to work in government-funded jobs, so Labour butters their side of the bread.
        
        Strong, independent women who run their own business or work with their husbands in a small business would be very unlikely to vote Labour.

Journalists obtained (how?) internal BP emails and are trying to spin a story from it.

They are trying to imply that BP has done something illegal by raising prices at some stations to subsidise poorly performing stations. Journalists have run off to the minister too, who is ‘very concerned’. Sounds very petty and child like.

It just doesn’t seem to me that BP have done anything wrong. They haven’t colluded with competition.

I don’t get it? Or has BP done something illegal? Not a lawyer here after all.

        I believe there are and must always be degrees to things like abuse. Distasteful though it may be, if you are unwilling to make such distinctions then how can you respond proportionately and justly to provocation.
        
        In my opinion it is even dangerous to claim that hurt feelings are the same as an act of violence. Doing so justifies responding with violence when someone says things you don’t like. That is the logic that antifa uses when they beat people up for wrongthink. When I was growing up we had a saying about sticks and stones that seems to have been forgotten these days.
        
        To me there is a very clear line that is crossed when aggro goes from a purely verbal level to a physical level. Perhaps women, who often hurt each other with words but seldom with fists, can’t see that line as clearly, but to most men that line is very sharp indeed and when someone puts a toe across it then it is all on. To take things from the verbal level to the physical level is always to escalate the conflict.
        
        I have also noticed that men and women react differently to offence. Men, if they are in a sensible mood and are not drunk or trying to pick a fight, will usually try to react proportionately to provocation whereas when a woman gets offended her outrage needle immediately pegs out at eleven, and she wants the perpetrator flayed alive and boiled in oil regardless of what it is they did to offend her. Kipling was onto something I think.

        I must admit I have never suffered physical abuse and until I appeared here on KB had never experienced any overt personal or sexual abuse in 60 years.
        However after 4 years of unwarranted abuse about my tits, vagina, sexual activities, relationships, underwear, and sanity whenever I express an opinion that offends a small group of people, I’m less convinced that this type of abuse is at a low level and harmless.
        
        If I was not of sound mind, financially secure, maritally secure and retired, then the abuse I’ve been subjected to could have been very destructive (of mind, career, marriage, employment).

        One-off abuse/trolling on a blog is something many have experienced.
        Prolonged sexual, personal abuse that is carried over onto other blogs is something I find disturbing and a bit more than calling people names.
        
        After 4 years of seeing how abuse is generated here.. and how some folks hunt in packs and encourage/incite others, I’m happy to start being identified as a whingeing victim.
        
        I have had to take precautions to protect business and family interests.
        I have refused one appointment as a patron of an environmental group and will next month stand down from the committee of another.
        I have no wish to have the abuse I experience on KB to be associated with the native afforestation and revegetation groups I advise.

I have had my doubts for many years about the Aussie banks, but the transcript of questioning at that Royal Commission shows them to be completely and utterly reprehensible. I have more respect for whores, because with whores you know full well who is getting screwed. When dealing with banks it needs a Royal Commission to point out in basic terms who is getting screwed.

He needs to keep it up, throughout interviews/speeches as well as over the long term. The second he stops the smiling and facial expressions, he lapses back into ‘nothingness’.

Keeping Stock

I’ve just caught up with Lydia Ko’s magnificant finish to the latest LPGA Tour event in California. After almost chipping in for eagle on the 72nd hole, she went into a sudden death playoff. On the first playoff hole she hit a 3-wood off the fairway from more than 200 metres out to within 3 feet of the hole to win with an eagle three.

I haven’t seen many better shots under pressure in any men’s or women’s golf; she’s back, with a vengeance.

  Our cuzzies, the lowland gorillas, eat a healthy diet that when applied to us humans, lowers cholesterol by 35% in just a few weeks!
  
  Two things:
  
  1. No doubt it is a healthy diet for gorillas, but humans evolved to be omnivores, so there’s no reason to imagine it would be a healthy diet for us.
  
  2. The belief that lowering cholesterol is a good thing is just that – a belief. There are as many studies that refute the claim as support it. Given that cholesterol is essential for cell function, I’m not interested in lowering mine by much at all.

    Time magazine published the ten most healthy foods in the world a few years back.
    It included: tea, blueberries, walnuts, broccoli and salmon.

      What’s been “scientifically proven” is that vegans have to be very careful with their diet to get enough nutrients and it’s very difficult to stay healthy on it long term. That’s because humans are omnivores, not herbivores, something that was obvious to most people even without the scientific research. Sometimes common sense and science are in agreement.

  That would be an astonishing achievement, since the best anyone’s been able to come up with after torturing the results for all they’re worth, is that eating lots of red meat might raise your cancer risk by a fraction of a percent. By contrast, confirming that smoking cigarettes causes lung cancer was based on smokers being 14 times more likely to get lung cancer than non-smokers – if anyone comes up with a figure like that for red meat, you bet it’ll be off my menu overnight, but that isn’t going to happen because vegan propaganda isn’t the same thing as physical reality.

    This to me seems like marketing 101 – it depends on the question. Compare the likely answers to “Do you agree with a regional fuel tax?” and “Would you be happy to pay your share of a regional fuel tax every time you fill up at the petrol station?” The first question has a strong feel-good factor, and many people will say yes. The second question is targeted, and some people may say no.
    
    I have a question for Auckland councillors who stood last year on a “no rates rise” or “no rates increase above inflation” platform. Given that you thought the existing budget was adequate, give or take, why did you vote for a massive financial imposition on Aucklanders yesterday, and what do you propose to spend the money on (don’t hide behind the public consultation facade)?
