Somebody is lining up for a period of home detention.

If courts can be stalled for a few months, and he is given between 6 and 12 months, then it might just turn out very nicely thank you very much!

Wonder whether he can wangle serving HD at more than 1 address? That would make his job as stay at home dad much easier.

Hosking manages to write some sense today, in between talking to whoever that blathering idiot is on with him in the morning.

‘Pike River and the TPP give us the clue.
They told us they had expert advice that Pike was accessible today.
And yet we are not in the mine nor are we any closer, that was plain straight up and down deception.
Spouted in an election campaign to draw votes and sympathy. They should be ashamed of themselves. The TPP, they weren’t signing, now they are.
They claim they’ve made changes, but we haven’t seen the text -I wonder why.
You can toss immigration in there too if you like, cuts of 20 to 30,000 was the policy, after they get in government, suddenly the “numbers aren’t important “, well they were when you were looking for votes.
That’s the stuff long term that will potentially bite them.
Their toughest days are yet to come, never forgetting of course that in the one major poll post the election they still trail the opposition in popularity badly.
They are not there because they won, they are there because Winston picked them.
Forget the 100 days; the real goal is to start winning in the polls.

Yet, yesterday we were treated to it all day long.

They pushed what they called was a rumour that Bill was gonsky . But that was not true , fake news all day long.

At 6 last night Dallow on TV1 introduced the piece on the State of the Union Address by calling the President the “divider” in chief.

How can tv1 expect to be held in anything but contempt when they play such silly games?

Jacinda has no experience, Kaye has been a cabinet minister & didn’t do a bad job, which he seemed to imply. He then implied Kaye wouldn’t be popular with the wider electorate, WTF? She beat Cindy twice in a safe Labour seat. Labour are terrified that National will make her leader, just National didn’t want Cindy as leader. We will trump your young brunette with a hot blonde, who’s intelligent and a fighter.

Lorde is in the same class as our PR-graduate Prime Minister when it comes to staying in the headlines…

Three Israeli teenagers are suing the two activists in NZ who wrote to singer Lorde, leading her to cancel her concert in Tel Aviv in June.

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reports:

The teens are being represented by the Israeli legal rights group Shurat HaDin, which reportedly filed the lawsuit in a test case of a law passed in 2011 that allows civil lawsuits to be filed against people who call for a boycott against Israel.
The lawsuit announced Tuesday asks for about (US)$13,000 in damages from the activists.

Not sure how the Israelis would collect damages from two activists in Auckland – Nadia Abu-Shanab and Justine Sachs — the former Palestinian and the latter Jewish. They wrote an open letter to Lorde saying that her scheduled performance in Israel “sends the wrong message.”

Lorde thanked the activists for “educating” her about the issues and days later cancelled the concert.

Seems this lsraeli human rights group are claiming the 17 year olds suffered mental distress because of the cancelled concert & the claim is for US$15,000 not US$13k. The story smacks of Israeli hypocrisy, during the interview with Espinor the lawyer representing the girls claimed the law being used was put in place to protect Israeli democracy by allowing those who speak out against Israel to be sued. So, here we have a lawyer claiming Israeli democracy, when le using an Israeli law to shut down opinion & free speech. Very democratic not.

  It was she who cancelled her proposed Tel Aviv concert.
  
  “Jewish” New Zealander Justine Sachs and “Palestinian” New Zealander Nadia Abu-Shanab wrote an open letter expressing their views, but Sachs is reputed to favour a secular solution in what is an Islamic v Jewish dispute, indicating Lorde could have put greater confidence in other advice … almost any other advice

Firstly I have an apology the former Speaker Margaret Wilson. I said that I considered her to be the worse Speaker in my tens of years memory.
I have watched Parliament a few times recently and have turned away in disgust at the performance of Trevor Mallard.
I liken him to be an overgrown bearded petulant arrogant teacher. His manners and attitude need to be tidied up, if not his appearance which is slovenly for the role of Speaker.
He reminds me of a petulant and puerile schoolteacher in one of Charles Dickens’ books, but does not carry a cane which I suppose he feels he should. His own party egg him on to his disgrace. He loves being rude as his party cheer him on.
He has a mental problem out of an overgrown consideration of his own importance in his lucky role which Peters gave him.
I expected him to be totally partisan, but that is to be expected from his ignorance, but really he is a disgrace to the role of Speaker in our Parliament.

It didnt take long for Karma to catch up with the pest for all reasons and seasons the guy called Peters.
Not so long ago it was revealed that Peters had been in receipt of Superannuation payments that classed him as living single,when in fact he wasn’t.
Peters blamed everyone and everbody for such revealing news. In fact he accused two or three potential truth and news leakers.
Peters put the boot into the National Party and accused them of all sorts of dirty politics.
Now with the latest Poll out last night showing the pest for all reasons Peters taking a massive decline and virtually his Party being decimated.
Wonder who the meglamaniac pest will accuse of his potential Party wipeout.Surely even he wouldnt be so thick skinned that his betrayal of his loyal followers and voters was not the cause.

    Holy, I believed Pike River could be re-entered with an acceptable level risk before Peters became involved. We should have a very good idea by the end of this year. They may of may not get past the rock fall but they will not know till they get there.
    
    I went black water rafting at Waitomo a couple of weeks ago. This involves some walking over very uneven ground where one cannot see where one is walking as it is under water.
    
    Uneven ground is one of the many risks that those who for whatever reason did not want re-entry.

      Chuck, it isn’t walking over uneven ground that is the issue, it’s the methane in the atmosphere.
      
      The whole Waitomo “Black Water” thing is carefully stage managed to give the impression of difficulty and danger without actually being difficult or dangerous – if it was really dangerous it would not be allowed by H&S rules.
      
      Done several of them myself, abseiling, rafting, and the one where you climb along the upper walls of one of the caves on ropes (actually wires). All good fun if harder for us oldies as crouching down and crawling through a narrow gap was a lot easier for those young enough to be flexible in the joints. But dangerous and in any way similar to Pike river except for being underground ? Not so much.

        Ed the plan is to totally ventilate the drift for re-entry. They may use re-breathing gear to enter to the same distance as was done previously. This because much was the sealed part was dismantled which will add to the cost and time.
        
        If Peters had not conned may like me most of National that he was negotiating in good faith Bill English would have agreed to re-entry. Would English agree to that if he thought the mine could not be ventilated.

        They had devices working for a number of months (jet turbines I think) pumping air/exhaust gases into the mine’s passages to reduce the Methane levels – and that wasn’t enough to reduce the levels enough for safe re-entry. What else they going to do ?
        
        Sure, if the air was safe we could re-enter, but it isn’t and almost certainly can’t be safely made so without enormous expense (4 x 777 sized engines could probably pump enough to clear it out, but how many $M would it cost ?).
        
        Why waste more money to get the same result – no safe re-entry.

I haven’t taken it upon myself to become an armchair expert on the matter as you appear to have. I also note that this government is quite prepared to run roughshod over Health & Safety law and in order to avoid making a decision, has absolved itself of any responsibility by passing the buck to some retired general that they are no doubt hoping has suffered too much shell shock.         On the 13th December 2016 Barry Soper reports in the Herald that Peters pledges to be first to re-enter Pike River Mine.
        
        Peters had read some of the safety reports and believed is now safe to return.
        
        When questioned he maintained it was a genuine offer and neither symbolic or a token gesture.

    Reading the Sunday Star Times was a ritual for me for years up until about 10-12 years ago when I gave up. I was out walking last Sunday morning and went past the shop I used to buy it at. Back in the day I could go there and there would be 50-60 papers on the counter mid morning ( nearly all gone by afternoon if I was late).

The Greens and their supporters are moaning loud and long about Chloe Swarbrick’s Bill being defeated last night.

They’re blaming National for the Bill’s failure, but that is misguided. Where they should be focusing is on the fact that no fewer than 17 government MP’s voted it down; eight from Labour and nine from New Zealand First.

The Greens had to swallow a massive dead rat on Tuesday in supporting Peters’ Electoral Integrity Bill. Yesterday, we saw NZF thanks the Greens for their support, by voting en-masse against a Green Member’s Bill.

Cracks are already evident in the coalition. This will do nothing to diminish the perception that the Greens and NZF still hate one another’s guts, and therein lies a massive challenge for Jacinda Ardern.

Trumpy’s speechwriters did a top job and he did delivered it very well. It would be hard to disagree with anything he said if you were a patriotic American. But those embittered democrats just sat on their hands; grim-faced and hating it as Trumpy rattled off all the things he was doing; so much of which stomped over the left’s narrative of their traditional ground. Hilarious and a stark reminder of how working class interests are ignored by the limousine liberals.

But probably the highlight for me was joe kennedy 3. One minute cringing with embarrassment for him and then ROTFLMAO the next. He was always disadvantaged by not knowing what Trump was going to say, but his comments about Trumpy dumping on American workers in particular were hilarious set against Trump’s speech. The lucy lawless award for F grade acting in front of an audience of well-heeled liberals. To be fair though, there was at least one black guy there – even if it was only to serve the Chardonnyeh. And what was that grease all over his mouth? Weird. Interesting also that he and porcelain chops seem to use the same speech writer – a non-stop gushing of vacuous virtue signalling piffle – completely devoid of any substance at all. Wonderful stuff.

    True, the South Vietnamese weren’t all that much less brutal than the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong. One would thought that they were fighting a war or something, and that one side was trying to subvert the government of another state.
    
    The picture is well known, less well known are the numerous cases of Viet Cong guerillas – fully funded and supported by the North Vietnamese committing war crimes and executing innocent civilians as part of their terror campaign.

      Actually, there’s quite a bit of context missing. He wasn’t Viet-Cong, but a regular North Vietnamese Officer – out of uniform – and had been caught after assassinating a South Vietnamese Officer’s family including his wife and young children. He was also taunting the South Vietnamese saying “now you must treat me as a POW”.
      
      Nice fellow, and under the rules of war a regular officer in plain clothes carrying out a war crime can be executed on the spot. So not only thoroughly deserved, but legal.
      
      It should be emblematic – of how the media so warped the story that they came out supporting child murdering war criminals because they were “the enemy” of their enemy.

        I agree, local politics would be good. Love or hate him, whaleoil was always good at scouting out local body screw ups and reporting on them. I am aware DPF is busy with a new boy and don’t begrudge him the time it takes to settle a youngster in (more than 6 weeks, Jacinda take note), nor spending time with his family. Funny how these things take precedence!
        I am not demanding DPF writes anything here, as we all know it is his blog. I am just merely noting that the quality of political discourse has markedly declined.         I think Mallard made a mess of it, actually. I find it ridiculous for public business to begin by invoking non-existent deities, but it is something the parliament as a whole should find consensus on.
        I would see nothing wrong in a solemn statement that when MPs meet the lay aside all private and personal interests, and seek to conduct business in the interests of public welfare, peace, and tranquillity.

      Like it or lump it, but our society is based on Christian beliefs and our calendar is based on the Christian calendar.
      
      The founding fathers, whoever you believe them to have been, adopted the Christian calendar and that has not been challenged yet.
      
      Our society appears content in celebrating Christmas, the birth of Christ (or Jesus) and also Easter, the crucifixion of Christ and forgiving of sins for all others.
      
      I don’t see too many people campaigning against the Christmas and Easter holidays we take in the name of Christianity.
      
      Faith is a very personal thing, and those who share their faith with us should be respected for their beliefs.

        Would this mean that Viking genes would show up only through the Y chromosome passed down to West Scottish men? And the daughters of the daughters of the daughters of the daughters would be good old Celts?

        The sperm cell passes on more than the Y-Chromosome…. the Viking males would have passed on genes from their autosomal chromosomes as well.
        Anyway, my Daddy once described himself as a Black Celt (google that!).
        I only knew him with grey, then white hair, but in his youth he was black-haired and he could carry a tan and he had green-brown eyes.
        It must have been my mother’s lot (from Iona & Arran) – that picked up the Viking genes… lack of melanin, blue eyes & a tendency to ginga.

      The Orkney Islands are at the top of Scotland. Orkney Islanders – and perhaps some other northern Scots (the sample didn’t include them) – by DNA are linked to the Yakut people of Russia – the reindeer herders.
      
      The Orkney Islanders also seem to have genetic links to the Sindih people of Pakistan.
      
      More likely the links will be to an ancient people that contributed to all three populations. It’s astonishing that DNA is now revealing movement of our ancestors in the Ice Ages, which ended nearly 11,000 years ago.

Strangely, on the Companies Office web site, Stuff Ltd is recorded as changing its name to Fairfax New Zealand, effective today, February 1.

The listing under the heading Company Name Change details:

New company name: Fairfax New Zealand Ltd.
Previous company name: Stuff Ltd.
Effective date: 01 February 2018.

However, the 2017 annual report of Fairfax New Zealand is now listed in the documents section of Stuff Ltd.

Stuff Ltd was registered as a company on 27 November, with the ultimate holding company listed as Fairfax Media Ltd.

It seems likely the name change filing has been ballsed up on the Companies Registry.

Fairfax NZ Ltd or Stuff Ltd owns the Stuff web site and a swathe of print titles including the Christchurch Press, the Dominion Post, and the Sunday Star-Times.

The Companies Office records today show Fairfax New Zealand Ltd owned by Stuff Ltd, which is owned by Fairfax Corporation, of Australia.

The umbrella company of Fairfax Corporation on the Australian Stock Exchange is Fairfax Media Ltd.

  I watched the full speech too, apart from the constant applause it was well worth it. Mentioning the people that make America great was a nice touch. Talking about MS13, gangs and illegals and his plan to destroy the influence they have on America was inspiring.

  Many, even most, dairies are a rort to provide immigrants with a way in through the business qualification.
  
  They should not be subsidised – and National started the State support for security devices.
  
  However, if politicians want to keep dairies and lower the robbery incidence, the cheapest, best, and most rational way to do this would be by slashing the duty on cigarettes.

    His career and Professional reputation were shattered- He had numerous friends and family members who deserted him…
    At the conclusion of the episode- Where the Detective Inspector ‘thanked him for cooperating’ etc etc his Lawyer enquired whether there would be any consequence for the lying complainant? (She had eventually admitted that she made it up to save her relationship with another person)
    My friend and his lawyer were told that in the ‘current environment’ it was not in the Public Interest to prosecute the Woman…

  1. When making a rape or sexual assault allegation, the accuser should be read her rights, photographed and finger printed.
  
  2. The accuser should be placed in custody… for her protection if she is innocent, or for the mans if she is not.
  
  3. If the accusations against the man do not result in a conviction, then an immediate investigation should begin against the lying meat sack.
  
  4. Upon conviction the following should happen:
  
  – mandatory 10 year sentence with no parole. No exceptions. Ever.
  – Be branded on her face and hands to show her as a false rape accuser, to protect other men.
  – Go on a register of false rape accusers that can be searched online.

  A person close to me was once a gifted student, all round athlete and a talk of the clubgolfing prodigy. She was 14 years old when she was rendered incapable with alcohol at a club function and raped by her coach, a man 25 years her senior.
  
  But despite the evidence and the protestations of people who knew he was a shit stain with an eye for the young ‘uns’, the crime was dismissed as a false complaint by a naive, infatuated teen who, after being rejected by him, concocted a fanciful story about a family man of impeccable character and an upstanding member of the community.
  
  Overnight she went from being a bright, animated, capable, outgoing young lady to a withdrawn, quavering, fearful child and the ensuing forty years have been a fucking disaster.
  
  But hey, there is nothing more horrendous to go through…..

        Here we will disagree. As one who has been a social rebel all my life (I’m 68) I’ve yet to see anyone seriously lose it on dope alone. Dope & alcohol however are not a good mix. My theory is that marijuana along with promoting the ‘munchies’ allows people to drink far more than they normally would……mostly spirits.
        
        I admit to a prejudice against the grog but that comes from over five years as a part time pub bouncer plus my own experiences. IMO cannabis & its associated downsides are benign by comparison.

        My observation of young boys (14-16) who started smoking cannabis regularly was that it stunted their potential (intellectually and athletically) in a pretty rapid time frame.
        Lots of their mates started to find them boring dopes.. as they weren’t up for activities, sport, adventure etc.

How about tougher sentencing on all robbers and home invaders, rather than security devices etc.

If the sentences were really tough (eg ten years for the first offence) and minimum non concurrent sentences were given, the word would soon get around that it is not worth it.

Make our Jails full again.

Eg today here in Tauranga a low life entered a house, then came back later and beat three people up and stole $8,000 worth of stuff.

Labour might say that was helping to reduce poverty. As you would have to work for three months to earn that much.

The passivity of many dairy owners puzzles me. If I owned a dairy I would own a gun and know how to use it. In my local grog shop the only person visible is a young woman about 5 foot 3 and as small as a child. This shop was robbed a couple of years ago and a worker injured. There was talk of installing a night security dispenser but nothing happened. People really need to help themselves before reaching out to Govts to save them from themselves. Btw, if Indian dairies were so strapped, they’d get out of the game; there’s another reason that they operate.

  The one down the road form me (nice couple and family, yes they are Indian), has the wife running it most of the day and the father who is a prison officer at Rimutaka Prison to help make ends meet sleeps 4 hours a day and runs it on the weekend when they’re more likely to be robbed. We often talk about the cigarette robberies and he tells me if anyone tried robbing him the would have a quick meeting with Mr Baseball Bat or Miss Ghurka Knife. Yes he has been robbed before but refuses to be victimised by it. Since he beat the hell out of the last person who tried to rob him I have no doubt of his ability.

The Royal Commission announced today seems to exclude the childrens’ homes of the 1970’s. Then some children were kept in solitary confinement, physically abused, denied appropriate clothing and ruined for the rest of their lives.

Survivors don’t want to get involved because of the painful memories. That could damage them even now. Compensation has been excluded. What is the point? There have been several rounds of inquiries already. No compo equates to no justice. Compo should be offered to survivors at least on the basis of actually being in one of those places at that time. There is sufficient evidence already gathered that would suffice. A former Cabinet Minister resigned over it.

I have heard victims on talk back and you can hear it in their voice that it has affected them to this day.

Once again people need to stand up at the time and make sure they are listened to.

And the perpetrators dealt with severely.

After 3 years this very expensive inquiry will just result in some apologies. More kicking the can down the road.

Want they want is the people named, charged and dealt with! Now before they all die off!

  In 1957 my parents put me in Nazareth House in CHCH for a couple of weeks when Mum had another baby. Dad paid them handsomely btw. By that time the worst of child abuse was probably over but I clearly remember how horribly we were treated. I didn’t see sexual abuse but will always remember Nuns as child hating, cruel women who spent more energy on some twisted theology than caring about children. That was a long time ago but some things are never forgotten.

Some may recall a week or so back when we were discussing unions and what their behavior will be.
at the time I told about how I considered the bakery union would behave.
Well, here is tonight’s news from the bakers union lead by a drunken arsehole. Holley was a drunken cunt 25 years ago, (wrote off 3 cars from memory whilst drunk), and our staff banned him from their bakery. Seems he is just been sloshing in the trough waiting for a new Labour Govt.

There could be a shortage of bread in North Island supermarkets as negotiations between the bakers’ union and the country’s largest bakeries go stale.

NZ Bakers and Pastrycooks Union secretary Norm Holley said a strike was possible if members did not get a long-overdue pay bump, which had been denied them because the country’s two biggest bakers and two main supermarket owners, Foodstuffs and Progressive Enterprises, continue to offer $1 loaves of bread – a price so low bakeries were unable to turn a profit.

What are the chances of our government Ministers acting in a similar manner and even having the opposition commend the Minister for answering questions properly from the despatch box.

One note though for News Hub – Lord Bates is a member of the House of Lords and not an MP (he was prior to being “sent to the other place”) and it is a despatch box not dispatch box.

Just goes to prove how bad the standard of the MSM really is.

Five reasons why I don’t watch tvnz (much if ever)

1 Their news is left wing biased
2 They overpay presenters who just read the news!
3 They virtually close down for 8 weeks at Xmas.
4 They play far too many adverts, especially during the last half of their movies
5 They show far too many reality and cooking and real estate shows.
