  She wasn’t that good talking about charter schools but better talking about something easier like the cyclone in Tonga.

      She has been so lucky that the MSM have so far treated her with kid cloves. If the pressure gets to great she will go on {Preggy} light duties and return to photo shots a schools and Day Care facilities.
      Just look at Parliament Question time. If difficult questions appear on the order paper the weak Ministers disappear and the senior Union men on the front bench answer for them. The other week there were a couple of difficult questions for Jacinda so she ran to the South Island leaving Winny to joke his way through them. Question time today should be interesting!!

  What is interesting is that journos are breaking ranks over this. Two journos have come out and accused the Labour Party of a ‘hit job’. They may not have the hard evidence but then the journo who originally broke it was working on pretty flimsy evidence.
  If WO’s allegation was true it would blow the National Party apart. If there was utu, it would have shown up in the list rankings for the last election. In particular if Chris did not win Hutt South he would have easily been a list MP anyway.
  About time that WO (and for that matter Bryce Edwards and others) stopped pulling stories about Bill English out of his arse.

    1: Having someone moderating who just banned posters at a whim, for using bad language or off topic etc etc
    2: Slater himself posting numerous times, before the election, with ‘Wait till the full story emerges’ or ‘I have the proof and will reveal it soon…’ the type of promises that had the WO community salivating about some big scandal that will blow Labour or Greens out of the water, needless to say nothing eventuated, all he was doing was bashing English and praising Winnie.
    If Kiwiblog does not take over from WO in the popularity poll that comes out each year then it’s only a matter of time as he and the site is doomed as it currently stands.

        In fairness to WO at the time they would not have seen the need for ‘Fort Knox’ type security. Nowadays the most innocuous WordPress based web sites have to be careful and even they get caught. For example it was recently found that if intruders got one key they could break into neighbours’ sites (ie on the same host if the host was not fully secure).

        Jackson, Davis and Peeni Henare are holding a media conference at midday. It’s probably an attempt by Labour’s Maori MP’s to paint themselves as the heroes in this situation, convincing Hipkins not to close the Partnership Schools.
        
        I’m not buying that for a minute. Labour has caved in to public pressure, and anything that follows now is an arse-covering exercise.

        KS: Having the Maori MPs looking like they stared down the Pakeha is surely a broken idea for the long haul.
        
        There are not that many Maori and making a Maori vs Pakeha issue within Labour surely will cost them Pakeha votes than any gain in Maori votes.
        
        Further, Maori have abysmal voting stats. Not worth chasing them at the cost of putting Pakeha offside.
        
        Heck, even having the Maori interests stare down the union interests is just going to cause more friction.

    The citizens are beginning to see the Unionisation flowing from their support of and election of Labour.
    The older citizens are thinking back to the 70s and early 80s and dont want to go there.
    
    Citizens under 45 years dont remember those days so need reminding of the chaos that ensured when the Unions ran the country not the Government of the day.

    (1) Every parent of a child and, subject to subsection (3), every person in the place of the parent of a child is justified in using force by way of correction towards the child, if the force used is reasonable in the circumstances.

    Section 139A of the Education Act 1989 is the enactment criminalising school corporal punishment, so the third clause prohibited teacher-parents from using force on their own children if it could be interpreted as school corporal punishment.
    
    Section 59 now reads as follows:[4]
    
    59 Parental control
    (1) Every parent of a child and every person in the place of a parent of the child is justified in using force if the force used is reasonable in the circumstances and is for the purpose of—
    
    (a) preventing or minimising harm to the child or another person; or
    (b) preventing the child from engaging or continuing to engage in conduct that amounts to a criminal offence; or
    (c) preventing the child from engaging or continuing to engage in offensive or disruptive behaviour; or
    (d) performing the normal daily tasks that are incidental to good care and parenting.
    (2) Nothing in subsection (1) or in any rule of common law justifies the use of force for the purpose of correction.
    (3) Subsection (2) prevails over subsection (1).
    (4) To avoid doubt, it is affirmed that the Police have the discretion not to prosecute complaints against a parent of a child or person in the place of a parent of a child in relation to an offence involving the use of force against a child, where the offence is considered to be so inconsequential that there is no public interest in proceeding with a prosecution.”

        Was that in addition to a retired District Court Judge (now deceased) he was hounding? I made many comments in support of the Judge on WO and to my surprise neither Cam or Pete took me down. He kept rabbiting on about the retired Judge not having a practicing certificate when chairing a tribunal, despite my pointing out that it was abundantly clear he did not need one (lawyers appointed to the judiciary send their practicing certificates back to the Law Society).

All kids need different schooling.

Lastly Labour’s shit housing policy is going to do nothing. This is how it works: The private sector adds to stock by identifying opportunity, adding value and moving on, taking profit but they reinvest and some lucky cunt picks up a relative bargain in an area not already impacted. Or the rental stock increases. And cry me a fucking river about urban sprawl. Beats the shit out of high density ghettoizing. We’d all end up living in Compton and having the lefties bleating about how it’s the rights fault.

  Town planners don’t plan they dictate. Without “planning” we have organic development that provides the right mix over time. Even infrastructure gets built, not planned, as it is needed by the developer. Developers do actual planning for reward their livelihoods depend on it.

      Yes, I was rather taken with that comment.
      As a biologist I have an understanding of what a race is — in plant terms I’d probably describe them as varieties/subspecies .
      
      Ethnicity is not a biological concept… as a social construct it seems to encompass group identities such as culture/religion/as well as race.
      
      I don’t think the author of that comment was aware of the various routes of entry and times of entry into the Indian subcontinent of different populations.
      (So not just the Indo-Aryans and Dravidians, but Negrito, Mongoloid, & Caucasian folk).
      
      So if we were to recognise populations of northern Indians (Indo-Aryans) containing a number of genetically determined features (skin colour, head shape) that differentiate them from populations of southern Indians (Dravidians), then we can describe them as distinct races of the Human species.
      
      There will be representatives in each population and within the populations between the two extremes that contain intermediate features.

  New Zealand does not have “open borders”. As an immigrant myself, I have experienced the requirements that have to be demonstrated to be met to immigrate here, and they are pretty stringent.

    Our immigration system also fails in its piss-weak, liberal-biased Immigration Appeals Tribunal.
    
    I would also fault the NZ system on its bias towards Muslims in accepting refugees, and in its grading of skills of immigrants. Too many immigrants, supposedly with high qualifications, are driving taxis and Ubers, and working in pizza parlours.

Thr Uber was quicker, cleaner more convenient to pay.

It must be killing the marginal taxis. It would only be corporate and government work keeping them alive.

There was a middle aged NK coach at the Olympics on TV yesterday.
He had been a top athlete in martial arts.
When young he competed at an international competition representing NK and came second.
When he got home, he was sent to work in a coal mine for six months because he didn’t win.
Eventually he was let out and resumed training.
Went to another international competition and defected.
His brother, back in NK, got sent to the coal mine for 12 months in retaliation and both families paid a heavy price for his defection (and not winning).

Back in 2007 I spent a lot of time following US economics sites like Denninger’s market-ticker and Mish’s Global econ. Have not bothered much since as it has been a one way bet but things at the moment have a similar sort of feel. We don’t have housing related issues but we do have the problems associated with interest rates too low for too long and most Governments ( apart from ours, Thanks Bill) still with awful fiscal problems.

If the US bond market blows up in the face of too much Government debt it could get nasty. If you have a mortgage or have investments it would pay to keep an eye on things.

The impact of the tax cut may not be what people have been told at all.

I see some sadist has finally been sentenced for torturing his wife and kids for 15 years.
We are not allowed to know his name so as not to identify the family, but shouldn’t we be permitted to know a few details: such as how this managed to go on for so long without being detected?
Either they must have lived in a very isolated part of the country, or come from another country.
I have heard that one of the forms of torture..throwing boiling water on the victim, is fairly common in the Pacific Islands.

        Acid attacks have been common in muslim communities and hindu communities and in communities where women are expected to accept arranged marriages.
        Acid attacks occur in many countries, but Bangladesh & Pakistan have the worst statistics.

      Acid attacks and threats of them have been a time-honoured method of controlling and terrorising women in sexist societies for ages.
      I used to know an Indian woman whose husband kept a bottle of acid on the bedroom table to threaten her with in the 70’s.
      An Asian woman I knew in South Auckland 20 years ago had half her face burned off with acid.
      I think what might have happened in England is that acid attacks were originally started by immigrants, and were adopted by street gangs as the ultimate weapon.

I `will admit though that Bill English did manage to deliver 8 straight deficits on the back of 8 straight surpluses delivered by the most capable government ever seen in New Zealand, the Clark led Labour government.

  NZ govt debt to gdp topped out at 25.5% of GDP in 2013 down to 22.2% in 2017. English delivered first budget in 2009, so that is 5 years of increasing debt.
