  We need the COL and Taxcinda to stay in “power” for the full term or the full extent of their incompetence and dishonesty wont be obvious to Mr and Mrs Joe Average. (tho petrol may be $3 a liter!)
  Otherwise there is a real danger that Taxcinda could rise from the ashes to stand again.
  The great thing about Labour “winning” the election is the bloodshed and much needed purge of the front bench has been held off (again) and still there is no real leader in their ranks.

The all forget that Peters went round rural trying to grab the National vote to enhance his prospect of becoming Prime Minister while Andrew Little had Labour in a unelectable position in the polls and also told his usual lies in trying with Sopers help to discredit Bill English as a Leader with texts Peters never had. So as time will tell National dodged a bullet by not being selected in this germs coalition and maybe Winston will have to swallow a lot more rats to wriggle his way out of being most probably the worst Government in history to have been elected to power.

I’m not sure Cindy will get much sleep before Santa comes – she has much to worry about, not least rising rents, a falling dollar, plummeting business confidence, a possible fall in dairy prices and a coterie of incompetent ministers. Other than that, everything should be fine – and her fence has already been painted.

Dead by sideways. Every dead in a car accident is a shame but as Xmas approaches we start to get single drivers being killed. Last night one hit a bridge and one a logging truck. The issue I raise here is that our modern PC world does not call these accidents for what they are. Bring on rubble strips, I’m sure these will stop these poor people giving up their lives….NO.

    Until the late 1990’s many electricity distribution companies had programmes to progressively underground their networks especially in urban and suburban areas. However industry changes and the attitude of the regulatory agencies caused these programmes to cease.
    There are still street light standards – however the modern ones are designed to shear off at the base etc to minimise harm if one was hit.

    It is time the politicians face facts – there is a growing number of suicide by vehicle. It is a nice way to off yourself without making it obvious to those left behind that it is what you did.
    
    The increasing relentless attack on masculinity sure makes it harder for young blokes to find their way in the world.
    
    Just being born with a dick makes you part of the evil patriarchy. It’s like Catholic original sin with having the path to redemption through faith and prayer.

Here we go again. Business confidence in NZ for the third Month in a row, has taken a hit.
Who would have thought that NZ had Suicide Bombers.
Except we have a different type of Suicide Bombers.
With the “selection” of the present Government,by the pest for all reasons and seasons a guy called Peters.
Looks like “Pest” Peters has supplied all the ingredients for a massive blow out for NZs economy.
To think that in just a few short weeks the decision by Peters has caused NZs economy to stall ,with participants not knowing which way to go,with the good ship NZ virtually becalmed.
That is bad enough for NZ ,with confidence heading down to Zero for NZs business.Next year 2018 may prove to be even worse,with the good ship NZs well being and way of life getting smashed pieces on the rocks .
With puppet master Peters pulling the strings of the Lie-bour/Green /Peters/cabal,and a St Trinians School girl look-a-like Called Ardern dancing to his “hard to be humble “demands.
Will he excel himself even more in 2018 and throw off the mask of being the so called deputy PM,and reveal the secret that he is the real NZ Prime Minister,and get the “Commie Chic” Comrade Ardern to come clean on the secret 38 page document that has now become top secret.

The participation rate shot up from the late-1960s as baby boomers joined the work force, women joined the work force and the inflation from paper money made it impossible for there to be one income households.     It costs $50 a week just to keep replacing the batteries, fire alarms and keep up with Wellingtons ever changing accomidation warrant of fitness rules.
    Sold all our flats to a nice asian man who wanted to increase his stock before the government passed the new law, did not mind as he was going to triple the number of people renting each room. “I run three shifts a day so they never meet each other”

Wonderful news that the High Court has upheld the Commerce Commission to not allow NZME and Fairfax to merge.
They will each collapse better on their own.
I see that the Herald today being desperate is back on the Barclay affair – whew is that the best that they can do ?
Barclay was naive and inexperienced, who has lost his job, for which he was duly elected, due to a vicious old lady.
This was an employment matter whereby a duly selected and elected MP made a mistake by not getting rid of a venal old staff member who made it quite clear that she and her associate clowns did not like him.
So she ups and leaves to join the Peters Party.
Sad old Lady really.
At least Barclay will know in future who can be trusted.

  It was a criminal matter when you make secret recordings of other people conversations.

      Clark did nothing wrong with Field. Stepped back, allowed the investigation to proceed and respected natural justice/without prejudicing the result by axing him from the party. Turned out they gave him enough rope by which he hanged himself politically and they had just grounds to expel him from the party. The conviction and imprisonment followed after that. Only damage to Labour was that it happened to one of their MPs and Ministers, but they cauterised it.
      
      In contrast, whether they knew all the details, National should have cut Barclay loose as soon as he refused to cooperate fully with a police investigation. That was the perfect time and a just as well as politically useful reason. As Prebble did with Donna Awatere-Huata when the initial investigation was made into her affairs. MPs should be accountable to a higher standard.

    Irrespective of the fact that Barclay may have indeed accidentally recorded the conversation, his failure to front up and cooperate fully with the police investigation was a shocker. He may have had that legal right as a private citizen, but not morally as an MP.
    
    And the Beehive’s response was inept too. Barclay should have been cut loose a lot earlier. Kiwiblog’s failure to post on the issue compared to the never-ending stream of posts on Turei and Ghaharaman was also less than impressive.

      English went after Maurice Williamson and he was ‘suspended’ merely because of atipathy to English. The later sacking from Ministry by Key was because he was seen as ‘involving himself in an individual prosecution’ regarding a large donor ( who never lived in his electorate)- thats what people hire lawyers for

        You didn’t mention Brian Connell or Richard Worth. The cynic/realist in me suggests the difference with them, Williamson and Barclay was the difficulty in removing the latter as an electorate MP, and also the government’s slim majority at the time.
        
        Also agree with the nonsense of suspending Williamson during English’s first tenure as leader. Was contrary to National Party principles – for example, Muldoon the supposed tyrannical dictator used to tolerate much more public dissent from the likes of Marilyn Waring and Mike Minogue. And English paid for it, because it made him appear weak, whereas Muldoon would have laughed off Williamson as a crank.

I am waiting for the order from H2 that no longer will there be cartoons depicting the commie chic as a buck tooth mule.

There have been some real shockers and appear to be getting worse. Soon all you will see is a huge set of teeth and no sign of the rest of her body.

Not sure what’s going on as I hear she was a nice looking normal girl in her teens. Nothing to suggest that in later years she could eat an apple through a tennis racquet.

    The problem with most ex-lawyer/teacher/union politicians, especially amongst the left, is that they are very poor problem solvers. Embarrassingly bad.
    
    Pouring money into the demand side when there is scarce supply raises the price. The answer is to incentivise an increase in supply. The politicians do the complete opposite – fuel demand and raise barriers to supply.
    
    They could not get it any more wrong. They are beyond useless, pouring gasoline on a bonfire whilst proclaiming to be firemen.

      The students have more money in their pockets to live on so those like Monty say, “I’ll have that” and raise rents. “It’s there, I can, I will.” No better provision just money into the students and out to the landlord.

        When accommodation supply gets too tight, people *offer* more. Also, landlords know that this g’ment is going to raise taxes, compliance costs, expectations. Comrade Taxinda has made it clear that she will do ‘something’ about cold, damp housing. What can she mean? Teach tenants to air housing and buy heaters? No way, the poor tenants!!
        
        I would dearly love to only increase my good tenants’ rent by inflation each year. Under National I felt safe doing that. Under Labour I’m worried about what expenses I’ll face and am reluctantly considering a higher rent rise.
        
        Most NZ landlords aren’t ‘sharks’ but Mums and Dads who have one or two places and just net a bit extra for retirement.
        
        Landlords are currently adding a whole lot of insulation in roofs. Fair enough, but it costs money. Now will she make heat pumps compulsory? More money needed. What else will she do? Sensible landlords don’t want to be caught out unable to pay for the things she might come up with, when rents can only be increased once a year.

Government departments always want more money, as if this will fix everything.
I read through the report on the Cave Creek disaster and how DOC gave the excuse of “not enough funding to ensure safety.”
But the though occurred to me that the department had never asked itself the fundamental question of “should we be launching potentially risky projects (like a cantilevered viewing platform high above rocks) if we don’t have the funds and manpower to safely build and maintain them?”
It’s a bit like “don’t have children if you can’t look after them.” But then, responsibility and foresight have never been part of popular New Zealand culture.

  If you dig a little deeper into that disaster you will see that the chief cause was not a faulty design; it was a personality clash, coupled by an internal funding mis-management throughout the whole conservancy.
  
  The designer wasn’t liked by the builder so he wasn’t allowed on site. The Area Operations Manager wanted to push this thing through because it was his ‘pet’ project, so he got some mates to help. Budget cuts were made in the Northern Area to pay for cock-ups in Haast.
  
  Four people who should have been spending time at Her Majesties pleasure went free.

      If you remember their response to ‘look after’ the asset was to have a weight limit sign made up which was found in somebodies desk (after the tragedy) and not attached.
      
      Maybe three people at a time would have meant it would have remained safe but a sudden addition of extra bodies meant it was doomed.
      
      The funding issue was a key contributor because the Northern Region had to find the funds and bits and pieces, after the Haast Centre budget blew out.
      
      Piss up and brewery come to mind.

  I seem to recall it was in conjunction with “Taskforce Green”, a job-training scheme for the unemployed (you listening, Shane Jones??!), for which the immediate cause was the failure to use “$20 worth of bolts instead of nails”.
  
  But as it was the then-National government’s policy, DOC wasn’t in a position to say “no” in principle. Instead, as public servants it was their job to implement. And combined with a “lack of imagination” and a “Swiss cheese” systemic failure, the tragedy occurred. The resignation of Government Minister Dennis Marshall after he set right those systemic failings highlighted where the ultimate responsibility lay – in policy, including government fiscal decisions.

        The difference between DoC and MoW when it comes to construction is professional qualifications and experience.
        
        DoC knew what they had to do to construct this thing (legally) but chose to use a mechanic to design it, an unqualified bush chippy to build it and a conceited ex-Pommy cop from PNG to manage it.
        
        There is a gap a mile wide between the MoW work of the 50’s-70’s and DoC.

      To be fair, the Great Society had barely rolled out those poverty programs by the time of Watts and the rest. They were the accumulated failures of the past. Although in hindsight the situations in those places were made worse as small business owners, shopkeepers and Black middle class families fled and never returned. West-side Chicago is a classic example, being in far worse shape and much more frightening than before its late 60’s riots.

        Yes. But as with Johnson’s concurrent poorly-conceived and conducted war in Vietnam, the perception of failure was a self-fulfilling prophecy as Americans became cynical. So soon after the passing of the Civil Rights Act and heralding the Great Society, the Watts Riots – and similar over the next few summers in other American big cities – caused a lot of blue collar Americans to write off the black community as “ingrates”. Which Nixon capitalised on in 1968 with that Southern Strategy. And so those white blue collar workers, the one-time back bone of the Democrats voted Republican, and later still were locked in by Reagan.

While we are approaching the season of goodwill and peace towards all men, it is sad but true that some people do not share those Christmas sentiments. In fact some people want to kill their fellow men and want to destroy as many people as possible specifically during the Christmas season. Those people sadly are Muslims. After vicious attacks on Christian churches in Egypt during the Christmas season we see that Muslims are also targeting their fellow Britons.

Yet another reason why we do not want any Muslim refugees and in fact we should not allow Muslims to immigrate to New Zealand. It’s sad that we have to think that way but unfortunately the behaviour of many Muslims leaves us no alternative. This headline from the Telegraph has now become routine.

      ISIS is mostly cleared from Syria but it has not been the Americans, it has been the Assad government. (go look at Deir Ezzor, the three year siege, and the final liberation).

      nd if the UN is a pathetic joke – an overstatement as it has intervened with success in Korea in 1950, and Kuwait in 1991, as well as deploying peace keeping forces to the likes of the Sinai since 1978 – it is because of the decisions of its collective members. Like the US – a nation that likes the power of veto on the UN Security Council, yet doesn’t like it if and when the other four (two in particular, Russia and China) exercise it in a way in which they disapprove.
      
      Also, fair call to criticise the US for moving its embassy to Jerusalem. It does nothing to advance peacve, and may in some small way hinder it. The UN was meant to usher in a new era where annexation by conquest, stealth and increment no longer apply. Until such time as a mutually negotiated and agreed settlement of the conflict occurs, then Tel Aviv remains the recognised capital of Israe in the international community. No matter what the Israelis or the USA say.

        No,…or at least not necessarily. As I’ve implied elsewhere I’d agree that the Palestinians bear the primary responsibility for the lack of a settlement. But not exclusively. I’d wager it has been Likud’s unofficial policy for at least 20 years to aim for long term and irreversible annexation of the West Bank, and every year that goes past they improve their chances.
        
        Hence the moving of the capital to Jerusalem is move in the long-term Israeli diplomatic strategy to induce the international community to shrug its shoulders and decide “ah, what the hell”.

        I can see that as a Likud strategy. The thing is, I think the Arab community reached that stage a long time ago anyway – even if they refused to admit it publically – and that its other internal conflicts (see – Dr Mordechai Kedar above) have now risen to such terrifying levels that even they can’t be bothered trying to paper them over with “protests” about how the Israel-Palestinian problem is the central issue in the Middle East.
        
        The “international community” has not yet caught up with that reality, nor has the US Department of State apparently, nor the Palestinians themselves – but they will soon enough. Paradoxically that might be when some real progress can be made, “Only Nixon could go to China” and all that.

  Try going to a School ‘Break-Up’ mate.
  I’ve sat through two in the past week- Couldn’t understand a word of what the Bone-Carving wearing Lefty Principles/Teachers were babbling on about.
  Then the kids sing Carols- All in Maori.
  These are High Decile (Supposedly good) Schools as well.
  European Culture is pretty much being erased from our Education system. I’m actually frightened to think what the kids get brainwashed about New Zealand History/Social Studies etc..

    As an historian it has been interesting to watch the ‘revisionist’ process at work. At a ‘state school’ level it would seem to have started at around ‘Tomorrow’s Schools’ became government policy, while the universities have been following a similar pattern for years. As one who was directly involved in some of the events being ‘revised’, it was an interesting experience to be told by my then school age children that what I had experienced was actually wrong and hadn’t happened ‘cos the teacher said so’. (The ultimate ‘killer’).
    
    Observation indicates that ‘maorification’ has now become the primary focus of all and any events that occurred in NZ after 1800 and that to think and say anything against the process (and even to present actual ‘facts’, backed up with the appropriate citations etc.) is to mark oneself as an ‘enemy of the people’ and (by implication) a ‘racist’.
    
    By such means is power extended and young minds controlled…

      I have watched the revisionism and hopefully combated it at home. There is little of substance and maorification can only lead to tokenisation. The worst of both worlds. Maori not being adequate for current use will not be used and even those who could have been changing its grammar and dropping it. Hundreds of teachers could be trained but their pupils will not continue. Also there is an extended cultural reserved language which the new teachers will never get near essentially decapitating the real language.

      I experience that same thing the other day. I was at a dinner for Maori Law grads, a friend was one, and I was supposed to graduate with a B.Soc. Sci the next day, I didn’t, I didn’t attend my other graduation either.
      
      After I had been brow beaten with many things Maori, which I do not actually mind in and of themselves, I said to my friend that I did not think of her as Maori. I do not think that we are friends anymore.
      
      I however do not as a first term of reference characterize people on their race, more on whether or not I can abide them. Many Maori, I feel, get radicalized at university and think in Maori first terms.
      
      After university has finished with some of those with Maori blood, they seem to have crises of identity, it would seem in having to reconcile their mixed heritage. Sad.
      
      One reason that I have possibly undervalued my degrees is because I did mine with out the plethora of help available to those of Maori heritage, thereby devaluing mine.

        As the parent of two mixed-race children, it has been an interesting experience watching them develop into adults. I’ve learnt a few things along the way. Of these, the most important one is that being both Maori and PI (two quarters of the racial combination) does NOT guarantee acceptance by either group!! A ‘suntan’ means nothing! This was a revelation, especially as our extended whanau (particularly on the PI side) had given my kids no reason to consider that ‘non-acceptance’ would be a problem. They soon, sadly, learnt the realities in the ‘real’ world (it started at Primary school BTW), and were badly ‘abused’ in the process (no details; they aren’t necessary). Suffice to say that the ‘European’ side of the family ultimately proved to be far more accepting.
        
        Over time both kids subsequently developed their own narratives and are comfortable within their own skins. They are successful in their respective fields, and currently living overseas. What has also been interesting is that my children’s experience is apparently more common than is generally known, to the extent that there is apparently now a very large group within New Zealand society who openly self-identify as ‘Half-caste’ and use that phrase as their self-descriptive; the old ‘Eight annas to a rupee’ statement (Some here will know) turned on its head; and correctly too BTW. Observation also suggests that those who identify with the ‘Half-caste’ group are frequently Gen X-ers, are usually very bright, tend to be highly qualified in their fields, and frequently come from homes where European culture is predominant. It would seem that the last point is of considerable importance as those ‘mixed-race’ children living within it are exposed to thought processes and concepts which seem to be alien to ‘Polynesian’ cultures (and no, I’m not going to get into an argument about this, in case anyone feels so-inclined.) Frequently there is also a greater emphasis on education, reading and ‘the arts’ within such families than might otherwise be the case. Such an education-base would seem to be crucial to what follows. It also enables the development of ‘critical thinking’, and gives an opportunity for the correction of ‘Revisionist’ teaching where that appears (which is more frequently than you would believe BTW). Where Maori language learning occurs it tends to be undertaken as part of the ‘self-identification’ process, rather than because of any particular ‘need’; it is, if you will, another part of the ‘jigsaw’, rather than the entire puzzle. Other languages are also frequently learnt; although these are often for ‘fun’ rather than through any particular cultural imperative. Interestingly the predominant culture is invariably European (which in New Zealand usually means English/Scottish/Welsh or Irish), and even when exposed to the ‘racial / cultural’ alternatives available within the family (ie PI, Maori, ‘Asian’ or…) this is the one that ‘mixed-race’ children most frequently adhere to, even in later years.
        
        These are, of course, only my own thoughts, albeit developed over some 40 years. It’s a fascinating subject, but, because of the ‘shadows’ within it, is one which is little researched.
        
        Trusting that this has been of interest.
        
        Finally, Sorry to learn that you didn’t attend your graduation BTW; I made certain that I didn’t miss mine (BA), even though I was the oldest in my class by some 30 years…

        I agree that identity issues are being fostered at uni and Maori language is part of that. Unfortunately these tar brushed psuedo Maori don’t qualify for access to real cultural background knowledge.

Yesterday, yet again, the Broadcasting Standards Authority condemned him for outright lying….

Mike Hosking misled Seven Sharp viewers when he told them they couldn’t vote for the Māori Party if they weren’t Māori, the Broadcasting Standards Authority has found. The BSA ruled Hosking breached its accuracy standard when he said to his co-presenter, “…you can’t vote for the Māori Party because you’re not enrolled in the Māori electorate”.

The comment was made on August 23, just under a month out from this year’s general election. The BSA found Hosking’s comment could have misled voters.

Hosking attempted to clarify his comment the following evening, saying: “The fact that anyone can vote for them as a list party I automatically assumed we all knew given we have been doing this for 20 years… and it went without saying. So hopefully that clears all of that up.”

However the BSA said the clarification was “flippant” and too general to correct the inaccurate information for viewers.

“The incorrect statements made by Mr Hosking were presented at a critical time, when voters required accurate information to enable them to make informed voting decisions. In this case, the flippant apology provided did not reflect a genuine appreciation for the important role of media during this time,” the BSA said in its decision.

The BSA determined that TVNZ should broadcast a statement before the 2017 summer holiday break acknowledging its breach of the accuracy standard.

      Was just listening to someone talk about greyhound racing, and they asked him ‘how much money’ does the industry make.
      He said the betting turnover was $120 mill per year, but thats done by the TAB
      So immediately the two hosts on Radion Live started prattling about ‘the industry gets $120 mill a year’ completly ignoring what he said about the TAB turnover – of course the punters get most of that.
      Lisa Owen who are supposed to be sharper than that, but you are out of your depth talking about anything relating to gambling – I dont gamble but have a reasonable idea of how its works.

It looks more to me as though Hosking had a brief brain fade, but realised that he was talking nonsense and tried to cover it with a “just joking” at the end.
He’d have been better off just admitting he’d had a momentary lapse than the song and dance since.

    You’re being over pedantic. Having to add disclaimers and qualifiers all over the place makes for very cumbersome test.
    
    Of course there are some in genuine need, but they are few. And most of them are in need of understanding how to budget etc, rather than being in anything like true poverty.
    
    However I’m sure that you will find that the numbers are significantly swelled by people who just see this as free stuff for the taking.
    
    They’ll come back on Christmas day for the free Christmas dinner too – good feed, someone else does the cooking and washing up and it’s all “free”.

      Meh, one man’s “pedantic” is another man’s “divinity is in the detail”. Especially when you are rather cavalier in assigning “most” as being in “(true) poverty”. Put it this way, there was a time in NZ’s past – before you got here – when it was macro-economic policy to keep wages sufficiently high so that a family could be housed and a basic standard of living attained. Hating on the poor may be trendy around here – and I don’t dispute there will be self-inflicted wounds concerning budgeting and life style choices for some, or even out-and-out bludgers – but if some have freely given for it to be given as charity, why despise those who receive it?

    Problem I have with this – and I speak as a Calvinist who doesn’t like to see the biblical doctrine of election used in heretical forms – is that the Battle of Blood River celebrations are a bit more than thanking God for his providence. It is (was) also about the idea that Afrikaaners were God’s chosen people who, by divine election were given dominion to rule over black Africans, and the battle itself was God’s approval and means of enforcing that fact. So, no, it is not devoid of…racism.
    
    Put it this way – courtesy of the almost exemplary conduct of white South Africans migrants to NZ the past 20 or so years ago to wash away the misgivings Kiwis may have had after the Springbok tour/apartheid era…I’d suggest Kiwi Saffers are free to celebrate their history as they want…but you may be the subject of legitimate concerns and negative feedback if it is celebrating the Battle of Blood River.

        You might think that. Nonetheless the biblical doctrines of predestination and divine election rest on the notion that God chooses some not because of any good character on the part of the elect – including their race, culture, creed, gender, economic status, intelligence, or supposed worthiness – but in spite of it. Hence claiming privilege for one race or culture, especially over another and co-opting God as justification is…a heresy.
        
        As per the great neo-Orthodox Swiss Reformed scholar Karl Barth, God says “no” to the world, in order that he can say “yes” through his election via Christ. IN Barth’s case it was saying “no” when the German churches of the 1930s were proclaiming Adolf Hitler the “gift of God”. same applies to any race, including Afrikaaners, Ulster Protestants and – yes, even in the light of Christ – Jews who claim they have some special divine pass/superiority to rule over others on the earth

Here’s an interesting story getting a beat up by MSM. Some of the comments make me puke.

Dirty Fonterra ripping off the consumer…again.

Well, no actually. The company which purchases the product from Fonterra, and provides the packaging, is guilty here.

I was in a factory where butter was being made and Anchor 500g blocks were flying off the machine. A halt was called and a big stainless drum was wheeled out and replaced.

The whole thing started up again and a ‘new brand’ was spat out of the drum.

Same butter, same old cows, but different wrapper.

The loss leader status of this butter was to attract customers to buy other products while they were sucked into the supermarket.

Now the same dirty dogs are hoping people don’t realise that they are getting 100g less butter when they buy their ‘cheaper’ block.

C’mon Cindy, go into bat and deal with these Aussie owned chains.

Government rules terminally ill people allowed to smoke cannabis

Terminally ill people will be temporarily permitted to smoke cannabis under the Government’s new law – with New Zealand’s medicinal cannabis industry expected to take off within 24 months.

When the scheme is up and running, patients with a prescription will be able to access medicinal cannabis at a pharmacy

However, there’s no guarantee prohibitively expensive medicinal cannabis products will be subsidised by Pharmac.

Until the industry takes off, the Government will decriminalise the use of cannabis plants for those with less than 12 months to live, if they have a doctor’s approval.

My understanding is that it was still possible for tenants to purchase their ‘State’ homes, and that many were trying to do so. If that is correct (and no doubt I will be told if it isn’t), and on the basis of this announcement, any tenant who might want to purchase their home (and was perhaps close to doing so), is now totally out of luck??

If so, then it is possible that the COL might have just lost some ‘loyal’ supporters.

  In the Wairarapa, Trust House, formed in 1998 to run Masterton Licensing Trust businesses, in 1999 bought every state house from Martinborough to Dannevirke.
  
  My personal observation is that the properties are now better cared for than they were by the Housing Corp. They are still rented to the same no hopers but are tidy,well maintained & no longer the ghetto of rubbish & wrecked cars they used to be.
  
  Tenants pay the same as they would for a State House in any other region.
  
  If organisations such as the licensing trust are prepared to fund & run community housing then surely the government of the day is better to take the money & use it to build more rental units.

I see a piece on W/O that says Simon Bridges and his supporters –Todd Muller in particular are looking at forming a non partisan group headed by Shaw to support a the idea of a Climate Commission. Have these guys got a death wish ?? If the Government want the Commission let them get the support they need from NZ First.
Alternatively let them watch National drop in the polls and the undecided vote increase. As farmers learn the fact that agriculture is not counted in any other country’s schemes they will rightfully question why NZ is even thinking about it.

The Grad thing strangely enough felt gratuitous, hard to explain.

I completed Law in 2010 and had started the B.Soc.Sci as a conjoint but finished it last year as a separate degree.

My father, of Welsh and Cornish descent learned the Maori language when he went to Wesley College (in the ’50’s I think), he had lots of Maori associations, through the Army, business etc, admittedly more likely to be educated but it wasn’t something that I was aware of growing up as such, I only saw people.

I object to ‘identity’ framing, certainly if I am expected to be an apologist about my own races. My English side should be in conflict with my Welsh, Cornish and Irish sides as it has once oppressed them, what a lot of nonsense lol.

My friend was there for her PhD, we had done Law together. There were stories of student hardship etc, to me they were no different to anyone elses, but the support was greater, if I had had all of my essays peer reviewed before submission, then at what point would it cease to be ones own work? Mine was all my own.

Two of my children anecdotally, on their father’s side, (according to their grandmother from Gisborne) have some Maori blood, neither of them have any interest in capitalizing on that fact or even researching it, it does not define them, nor would I want it to.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has paid humorous tribute to Andrew Little, telling MPs if you’re ever his deputy “run for the hills”.

Or run for PM like Jacinda did?

Ardern went through what she had learned over the year – starting with not to plumb her own toilet. She referred to National’s finance spokesman Steven Joyce’s claims of a “hole” in Labour’s books during the campaign. “I learnt an election can be a good, clean contest of ideas – with the exception of a few holes.”

Jacinda seems to be saying that some holes are bad and dirty. Has she told Grant?
