Red Radio repeating Shaw’s contention that the Greens need only 0.13% of the Specials vote to gain an extra MP.
I suspect they mean Greens need to increase their overall vote by 0.13%, which is quite a different equation, but they wouldn’t understand that, being maths and all..
This is their Finance spokesman, and reporters who feign to report and interpret facts to the public.
Clowns the lot of them.

  I see I am not the only one to hear Shaw’s little effort and go Huh?
  I actually waited until they repeated the clip to make sure it was really what he said. How can anyone make a statement like that without any hesitation at all? I would have thought someone who the Greens assure us is fit to be Finance Minister would realise that you have to get greater percentage of the specials than of the initial count to get a higher percentage of the final party vote. Not our Green genius though.
  There is another alternative. If the Green party get 0.13% of the specials and every other special vote is disallowed they just might get their extra member.
  If they actually do get 0.13%, and other parties get the rest they will be right on the verge of dropping below 5% altogether. They won’t gain another seat. They will instead lose all the 7 they so far have on the election night count. Their final number would be ZERO.
  Oh well it won’t happen but we can dream about that for another 26 hours.

Looks like “conspiracy theory” is fast becoming “conspiracy fact” as overnight the Las Vegas Sheriff leading the investigation finally admits that the Gunman (whoever that might be) had to have had help.

Personally I still found it telling that just hours after the incident occurred, and before any investigation by the police, the MSM were repeating the line that there were no political or religious motives. Normally we know before the bodies are even cold but in this case I’d say they know damn well the shooters motives but they won’t release them for politically expedient reasons.

That (and the fact there are dozens of videos showing automatic muzzle flash from the 4th floor + the shooting noises being from different distances) were the big red flags for me that there is more to this story we’re being told.

And for what its worth, whatever official narrative they settle on, I suspect we will never be told the truth about what happened that night in Vegas.

      Again, with guns with automated mechanisms (the bump stocks) capable of firing hundreds of shots in a minute, 2,000 rounds is certainly possible. He doesn’t need to reload much because he has a lot of guns ready to fire one after the other. It doesn’t take a lot of effort to hold a gun and shoot, and even “flabby 64 year olds” can be pretty active for shortish periods – after all, he wasn’t worried about over exerting himself and getting a heart attack was he.

        * How heavy do you think such a machine gun would be?
        * How much physical effort to either hold it up firing and cope with its recoil for such a sustained period or lift and replace on a tripod…..for an untrained flabby 64 yo man?
        * How hot do you think the barralls would get and the smoke generated?
        
        Watch the videos – there are sustained muzzle flashes on the 4th floor + firing is coming from different distances with a different cadence at the same time.
        
        Are you to calling the Sheriff a liar or is it that you just don’t want your worldview and faith in the MSM shattered? It’s the later and you just don’t want to face up to that…

        Meanwhile ISIS have tripled down with yet another claim Paddock was their guy. They are going to have to come out with some actual proof soon.

        I have some experience of firing rifles for sustained periods. We used automatic weapons but never fired them on full auto. The magazine emptied in about 4 seconds if you did, and as the barrel rose most of the shots would go high. If you used the bipod, you would still have to exert a fair amount of pressure on the butt to ensure accurate, downward, fire. When firing the LMG on a bipod, the recoil on sustained bursts would actually push you backwards. I would suggest that the shooter had some experience in using weapons to sustain the rate of fire and the length of time. That’s all.

        Buy a couple of platoons worth of light arms and go ape shite. He had fantasized planed and with out doubt acted out off loading a fire storm over a number of years. That he managed such a toll with the technical difficulty inherent in the weapon and shooting from an elevated position suggests much practice.

        EAD, and you show your ignorance. These weren’t “machine guns” as such, they were standard consumer available semi-automatics. Not designed for constant high speed firing so much more lightly constructed. Easily fired (though not accurately !) one handed, and the longevity of the guns was not an issue, he had so many if one jammed through over-heating he could just discard it and use another – the weapons were to be used and discarded.
        
        And sorry to disabuse you but I have fired a number of different weapons; not a full on MG, but none of these weapons were those. I believe that with some training (and that’s something I reckon we’ll find out about) the shooter could have coped. He was noted as being covered in residue from the firing and to have had burned hands from handling the hot weapons. And probably easier to cope with the muzzle riding up if he was in a prepared position facing downwards – and he was shooting at a downward angle.
        
        Many were pre-mounted on their own tripods/bipods, probably pre-arranged over some time lined up, loaded and ready to be fired in succession. Not “no-sweat” work but by no means impossible at all.
        
        It seems reasonably likely to me that there was one gunman but he may have had some help arranging and organizing, too early to tell.
        
        OK, the fourth floor – find me a photo/video of a broken or openable window. Because without that there’s no way to fire outside. Plus as others point out, the light is NOT synchronised with the time of the firing.
        
        Don’t need to call the Sheriff a liar or to have my “world view” disrupted, perfectly happy to wait and learn and comment on the most probable interpretation. You, BTW, are the one jumping to conclusions on sketchy and very disputable evidence – because it suits YOUR worldview.

      Untrained …. He has not worked full-time for years. He lived off rental property income. And his past-times are casinos and guns.
      
      He had target explosive. He must have been going out into the “desert” to set up targets and done a lot of shooting over the years.
      
      And having so many guns fitted with bump stocks makes it entirely credible. The idea of a collaborator is unproven, it is based on the myth that a private individual cannot develop the capacity to do this sort of thing – when all it required was the time and the money (expertise would be offered by gun-sellers and or on-line).
      
      I would say there are a million or more men in the USA who could do the same.

  EAD, so far the data I’ve seen suggests that there are no broken windows and no openable windows on the 4th floor so no shooting from there. Also flashing light and gunfire sounds are not correlated.

  A closer look at his personal background. An aging man who was abandoned by his father (an armed robber of banks who was on the FBI most wanted list) when only 7. He is now a property business guy without children into “robbing casinos” (ok just gambling) and guns. He goes out shooting from a casino hotel.       Remember it is only some of them under the publican Monk who wants all this.
      I see that Mrs Rockhouse is sadly one of the victim’s mothers but what part did her Husband as Health and Safety Manager have in this.
      He complained vociferously in the Royal Commission about safety in the mine but still allowed his two sons to continue – sadly losing one.
      I still have not heard what happened to the over $32,000,000 collected including a contribution from my family.
      Many families have moved on and some have returned to Australia -so we are only hearing from those with the loudest voice on their own behalf.
      I hope that of my donation none of it is going to Nigel Hampton QC – a good but very expensive Barrister acting on their behalf.

    • A BROADCASTER claiming to be a reporter or a journalist is a fraud
    • A TV or radio producer, or print media click bait chaser, is a failed reporter and considered too “ugly” to be either “journalist, “broadcaster” or presenter, but always weaving their wicked left-wing web of bullshit, while hiding from public view.
    New Zealand has an over-abundance of “journalists,” click bait chasers, producers and “broadcasters”, but few, if any in 2017, “reporters”.

But I have to say the best news out of the National camp yesterday was the challenge back to Peters comment about you don’t need someone on your team that doesn’t learn and is a antagonist that will upset the mood of negotiations. Steven Joyce has replied saying he has always been a part of National policy and will be in the same position when they get down to the deal, so Bill English and the team will not change at Winston’s whim.

      If your nasty comment had any validity at all Bill English would have ‘gone quietly into the night’ after the 2002 defeat but you might have noticed that he didn’t. He is made of sterner stuff, has worked diligently on behalf of all NZers, been an excellent Minister of Finance guiding our country through some of the worst financial situations we have faced and has rightly earned his position as once again the leader of the National Party.
      His achievement in this election has been little short of miraculous. He isn’t going to roll over for Winston and sell National supporters short.

      This problem with denial of reality is a major issue for the KoolAid die-hard Nats at the moment. National are not travelling well at the moment. The compass is whizzing around in all directions. They’ve burned down all potential coalition partners and only a tax and scare campaign saved the day against arguably the most inexperienced and vacuous Labour leader we’ve ever seen!
      
      But if you think down-ticking will make the truth untrue then maybe you can use the same technique to prove that up is down and black is actually white.
      
      Opposition is shit. National will swallow a lot to avoid that massive humiliation. Bill is a human being and he cares about how history judges him. He doesn’t want to end up as a two-time loser. Politicians have egos the size of a house, that’s what fuels them to adopt a freakishly unpleasant and demanding lifestyle to hold on to power.
      
      Losing = humiliation.
      People don’t like humiliation.
      Will do anything to avoid losing and humiliation!
      (Look at Hillary nearly a year on she’s still public squirming and blaming to avoid admitting to herself she’s a loser)

One of the editors of the local paper in Whanganui has come out and rubbished all the mens stores in town. Things like “There seems to be the attitude that men don’t like shopping: their wives will buy for them and they’ll be happy with what they’re given.” and “Manufacturers are not particularly concerned with looking after the male population, which is why there is so little in the way of selection, variety and sizing.” He goes on and on. For a business that needs advertising to stay in business I would hate to be the Chronicle Rep next calling on a store that carries mens clothing.
Personally I find that Whanganui has a good range of mens clothes. I wont name names as I’m sure to leave someone out but there is a great range of both quality and price for a large country town that Whanganui is.

  I recently bought some clothes from the menswear shop by the fountain. The quality and price were fine, and given my somewhat less than standard physique (too short for my weight), there was choice in my size range.
  
  The Chronicle loves bad-news stories. Perhaps that explains why it, like other newspapers, is hanging on to survival by a thread. I suspect within a year it will have gone to less than daily frequency.

Mmmm. Just wondering how old the Editor is. And for that person to assume wives buy for husbands etc is rather incorrect. I certainly don’t buy clothes for my husband. He’s fully entitled to buy what he wants and, what’s more, he goes shopping on his own. Conversely, I don’t want my husband shopping for clothes for me and telling me what to wear thank you very much.. Me thinks this Editor is a dipstick. Husbo prefers a menswear shop in Taupo – we holiday there – I think it’s called The Village Squire. A fab range of lovely shirts etc. etc.
And his sunday suit was tailor-made in Hong Kong – and just fantastic. BTW – I can spot a tailor-made suit a mile off. I want to stick my fingers down my throat when I see a man shuffle along in a poorly fitting suit or poorly fitting anything for that matter. Take note men!

  No doubt there is a lot of variation, but I have a sneaking suspicion that if the married (or equivalent) men here divided their clothes into bought by my wife, with my wife, or alone, then for most ‘alone’ would be the smallest pile. It would be the largest pile for most wives, I am guessing.
  (Then again – I’m someone who doesn’t enjoy shopping for such things very much)

    Not in our household. My husband doesn’t like being told what to wear (which I don’t do) , what to buy etc. Nor do I. I am, as is he, perfectly capable of shopping on my own and choosing what I like to wear without being told what to wear by my spouse. Fortunately , we both have very good taste and there is no need to micro-manage each other as he puts it. And, I don’t want him hanging around in a womens’ wear shop while I’m trying clothes on – he’d be bored out of his skull and would spoil the entire shopping experience for me. The odd time when we are out together shopping and if he goes into a mens wear shop, I might be invited to comment on an item of clothing – but that is very rare indeed. I, on the other hand, never venture into a clothes shop when we are in town together. He reckons there isn’t enough time in the day for that! Wise man.

I suspect the Specials will be a surprise for the following reasons

1. In the past advanced voting was not promoted as much as this time.
2. Many people didnt realise until this election they could vote outside their electorate in advance.
3. In the past Overseas have been a much larger number of Specials and have favoured Lab/Green given young Lab/Green activities in overseas cities.

    I think if she stopped pushing her sexuality down the communities throat and in fact had kept it out of the school then she would be able to get on with teaching.
    It is always the individual’s choice how much of their personal behavior and choices are made public.
    She pushed her sexuality, now she pays the price. We know kids are merciless and will be brutal in anyway they can given half a chance.
    EDIT: No where did I reference her ability to teach her subjects. BUT, if she left a “supposedly” successful career in Wellington to go and teach, then I would question whether she was in actual fact capable or successful.

Neither TRC nor TRL are listed as Sch 2 companies under the Crown Entities Act.

TRL is not listed as a company that comes under Treasury’s Crown Monitoring Unit.

So – how is this 100% Crown-owned TRL being audited and monitored in a proper, lawful and accountable way?

How on earth did this happen?

Who is responsible for ensuring 100% Crown-owned companies, ARE properly listed under the Public Finance Act?

    No, the odds favour the house, but anyone can make a short term profit, and in many games, very good players can make a long term profit. The key often is whether you play against the “house” or against the other players.
    
    Horse racing is an example, there are systems to make long term gains of TAB betting in NZ. It isn’t easy, takes a lot of research, but there are (or used to be) programs you could buy to assemble and process the data. Basically you calculated the odds for every (or most) horses in given races and backed ones at “false” odds on the TAB – you were betting essentially against the other bettors by virtue of having superior information.
    
    One interesting very small scale scheme that I calculated made a profit in the past (not sure if it still will as circumstances have changed) was to bet on the Aussie favourite on the NZ TAB and on the NZ favourite on the Aussie TAB – because of national fervour both were at falsely low odds on the other countries TAB. Now there’s few NZ horses in the race with much chance so the effect is much less prominent and we follow the Aussie odds more closely.

  Winning is easier if you have enough money otherwise, and provided you are disciplined as to earning money that way (rather than being careless and just doing it as something to pass the time because you already have money).
  
  I will explain. The casino has set things up so that overall they win. But if a punter knows this and gambles accordingly they can still win.
  
  Just start out with low bets and if you keep losing (which turns out to be a good thing if you can afford to keep betting until you win) then increase the amount of the bet. Thus the odds then turn in your favour as most of your (overall) money will be on when you are due for a win.
  
  Not that many of us have the capacity for it, tough day at Trentham if you don’t get the winner by the last race for example. But in principle it is fine.

        Most pure forms of gambling (without playing against opponents – e.g., poker) are a tax on the mathematically challenged. Gamble for fun, by all means, but don’t expect to make money.
        
        The problem with doubling your bet, say, every time you lose, is that a string of losses will wipe out most people eventually – and, even if you do win, you haven’t won much once your previous losses are taken into account.
        
        It may be apocryphal story (I don’t know for sure), but the fallacy of the maturity of chances is also called the Monte Carlo fallacy. After a run of a few “black” on a roulette wheel, people starting betting on “red”, doubling their bet each time to recoup their losses. The roulette wheel threw “black” 26 times in a row, by which time most of the punters had been wiped out.

        Sure. It is not the way to make your money, but if rich enough to survive the losses and keep at it, one way to gamble and not lose money.
        
        At routine numbers (wheel) gambling, doubling down will get your money back. Most cannot keep that up and thus the casino wins.
        
        To make money at it requires another factor, where the method can be applied when the punter has learned expertise at a game (or information regarding odds independent of the TAB).
        
        But then most of the people with enough money to gamble this way will make easier money with less risk on other “markets”. It is usually only those who develop some expertise in an area of gambling who will go onto to adopt this and more specific (related type of) betting strategy to make money out of it.       Horse racing is far different to chance.
      
      Good money management and selection *criteria* is all that is involved. Most people think it is simply about selection, but it’s getting the betting wrong that can just as easily ruin you. Betting $10 on one race then $50 on the next then back to $20 almost guarantees you will lose – even if you win 2 out of every 3 races.
      
      All up place betting on two well selected horses in two races is the way to go imo, you won’t get rich each time you bet but you will win over the day/week/month/year. ‘well selected’ does not always mean ‘favorite’.
      $10 x $1.4 x $1.6 = $22.4 or $10 x $1.7 x $1.7 = $28.9 you can find 2-3-4 horses per meeting at syd, mel, bri each Saturday. That’s about half a dozen ok bets each week. Don’t bet over winter. *criteria* look first at the horses who have won the most stake money – if you think others may be better then don’t bet. Short distance races are best as there is ‘no luck involved in the running’ – it’s just horse against horse over short distances – they either have the ability or not.
      
      If you are making money doing that then increase your bet up to the maximum that you are comfortable with…..just saying…. $100. 😎

        If you can afford to lose $1000 doing it and you are confident of picking a winner every 10 races, consider this (either your picks or take the tips of others those who pick a winner every race meet/every 10 races). And as noted some types of races are more predictable (and times of the year when surfaces are consistent).
        
        $1 first race, $2 second and so on. It will be $512 by the 10th race. Once you win, back to the beginning, $1 bet. With the win bet always higher than $1, one should come out ahead a fair share of the time.
        
        A somewhat safe approach to betting at annual race meets. Or past-time for the more avid race fan, gambler.
        
        What is the problem is that you have to sometimes accept the $1000 loss and not dig the hole deeper if you cannot afford to keep losing.

I remember the olden days when special votes were counted progressively as they came to hand . It was like watching a rugby match as one candidate would inch ahead in close electorate and then a batch of votes would rock up from a resthome or somewhere and the numbers would change.

Why have they not done that this time? The trend in the specials would have been obvious within a day or two and we might have a government by now.

At Pete George’s Your NZ blog: The future here

I’ve been blogging for over six years now – in some ways I have enjoyed the challenge and have found it rewarding, but in other ways it is disappointing.

The only decision I have made so far is to scale things back. I don’t know yet how much and how quickly. But in part at least I want to move on and put my time and effort into different things.

The biggest issue I am grappling with is site moderation – due to a small number of people who abuse the privilege of commenting here and deliberately ignore or challenge fairly lenient conditions of participation Even if I post less I still have to monitor things to protect the site from lack of self control and from malice.

Perhaps DPF could offer the services of Dad4Justice, JasonJohns and Scorpion to make sure everyone who comments at YourNZ behaves themselves! And the occasional guest posts from Hugh and Penny should promote good discussion!

Not going to lie…have had some MAJOR problems with an Alsation and his ‘girlfriends’…but all sorted now. Dignity patrol followed said dog with a plastic bag and got some real ‘nuggets’. Keeping town clean is an important part of discipline. Public and personal hygiene are identical. Rubbish on a lawn is just as bad as urine stains on your trousers. And so on…

I do not think it was a false flag. However I do not believe in censorship .

Fabrications, hoaxes and other lies about the horrific mass shooting in Las Vegas this week which killed at least 59 people and wounded well over 500 others have been spreading rampant on YouTube, and it’s unclear if the video giant has any plans to do anything about it.
