Ok here’s what we should be looking forward to.

National in opposition will be formidable. There are some excellent debaters in the house and most are within the Labour benches.

I can’t wait until the pompous arse in NZ first, Shane Jones gets up to speak. Sounds very Etonian but once the facade is scratched, there’s just a bro from Northland underneath.

Rational facts will demolish oral hygiene everyday.

And investigation into National allowing a communist spy into parliament.

That should give Labour and NZF enough ammunition for the next six years.

Great to see some true “liberal” politics emerging early with our absurd drug laws being looked at.

Cannabis clearly causes less brain damage and death than religion does. Though as a liberal I believe the State has no place in meddling with either.

Windmill Failures

Nearly 120 wind turbines catch fire each year, according to a research – ten times the number reported by the industry. The researchers claim that out of 200,000 turbines around the world, 117 fires take place annually – far more than what is reported by wind farm companies.

Fire has a huge financial impact on the industry; Each wind turbine costs more than £2 million and generates an estimated income of more than £500,000 per year. Any loss or downtime of these valuable assets makes the industry less viable and productive.

Fires are a problem for the industry, impacting on energy production, economic output and emitting toxic fumes, this could cast a shadow over the industry’s green credentials. Wind turbines catch fire because highly flammable materials such as hydraulic oil and plastics are in close proximity to machinery and electrical wires. These can ignite a fire if they overheat or are faulty. Lots of oxygen, in the form of high winds, can quickly fan a fire inside a turbine.

I heard Jacinda mention on the radio this morning that her Government is for all people – she was reminded of her task as she walked home last night and saw two people sleeping rough on Lambton Quay.

With this in mind I expected that those two homeless would be gone as I made my way to work today – surely the Saviour of the down-trodden and poor would have taken them home and put them up for the night?

Alas no – they were still there.

I was tempted to ask them if Jacinda had bothered to speak to them and tell them of her masterplan to get them into a home of their choice, in a place of their choice. But left them sleeping.

      The only way you could know this is by a religious breakdown of the vote for New Zealand First by a poll or other means. Have you seen something like that? I think it’s doubtful that a lot of New Zealand First’s vote was driven by those concerns. I don’t know any religious conservatives, I assume you mean Christian fundamentalists, but the people I have talked to who were voting for them were concerned about economics and immigration. I’m not defending religious conservatives, especially as they don’t tend to like people like me, but I think you’re drawing a long bow with that claim. Is there even enough of those types left to swing the vote in a major way?

        Put it this way. There were about 96K NZers who in the 2014 elections gave the NZ Conservatives 3.97% of the vote.
        
        Some of these were religiously conservative PIs who would have returned to Labour. Leaves about 3% who were opposed to gay marriage & very anti any loosening of social laws.
        
        A few may have gone home to National incognito with heads bowed in shame…..the rest either didn’t vote or supported NZ First.
