The longer the debacle of these negotiations drags on thanks to Winnie and his bewildered disciples, the more fervently I hope Labour and the Greens are the ones saddled with him, not National.

  I actually take a more positive view.
  Winnie’s rabble will go with the Nats, but as time goes on his increasingly erratic behaviour will take its toll and NZF will alienate the public. The Nats will keep him firmly in his place and he will be gone by 2020.
  Meanwhile the Jacinda stardust will disappear and Labour will become just as irrelevant as they were under Angry.

      Sorry, but never could my wildest dreams come to feature such optimism of viewpoint. Governments, first and foremost, are about administration, that baseline having to be clearly understood/appreciated/accepted long before any “wished-for/wouldn’t-it-be-nice” idea can be thunked up.
      
      The Green Party “functions” on a complete reverse of that perspective – they’d first buy the farm on account of its “nature values,” and then attempt to work out, 1. How they’d pay for it, 2. Why their “methods” weren’t making any money, 3. Why the property’s value had plummeted.
      
      Following its collapse, they’d then come up with every unrelated possible/impossible reason to justify their actions – and be ready to go out and do it all over again.
      
      Where lies the “sense” in that ??????????

        I couldnt agree more – Dead earnest is a green party dreamer who also hasnt worked out how a basic economy works.
        For a while there I thought the Green Party had a ray of hope forming as James Shaw seemed to have risen above the ideology and realised that you actually needed prosperity to be able to look after the country’s natural beauty and resources properly but alas he’s been marginalised by too many sycophants of the lefty communists who don’t even care about the environment and he doesn’t have the balls to stand up to them!

        He must be spending some sleepless night contemplating the inane situation that he finds himself in. Destined to be – not the bridesmaid, but the jilted fiancée; when he could be calling the shots and showing the “Clown of Northland” how sensible coalition negotiations are conducted.

Whatever happened to justice being seen to be done
… or did I miss it somewhere?

• What stage is the extradition of Kim Dotcom at, the person people say one Election will not be here to see the next Election … but is. Arrested January 20, 2012

• Has Auckland Council given up on ever getting what they are owed by Penny Bright, or are they still working out what she owes. Reputedly last paid $80 in 2007.

• As they must still be doing the same (working the amount out) with Metiria Turei? About 70 working days so far.

• And the Craig v Slater v Craig debacle? Is the Judge about to deliver a verdict when we have all just forgotten whatever it was?

And which will be first? Answers to any of these, or Winston’s decision?

  Re Kim Dotcom – he filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal, so it is out of the Government’s hands unless the Government is prepared to deport him to a country of Kim’s choice and risk damaging USA/NZ relations and the general comity of nations with respect to extradition.
  I would have though the Penny Bright business would have been wrapped by now. Perhaps she has filed an appeal with the Court of Appeal or there is some Rating Act quirk that has hog tied the Council. That the house in question does not have a mortgage means the Council cannot go down the usual path of leveraging the delinquent ratepayer via the mortgagee (who at any hint of a rating sale will pay the outstanding rates and add it to the mortgage plus an administration fee).

    There are charging orders up the yin yang on the title to Ms Brights property.
    No-one has had the nads, however, to enforce them with an order for sale.
    It would be fun to buy the debts from the council and take an assignment of them and the charging orders and then sell.
    Athough, having said that, it is highly likely that by the time one had fought through the inevitable legal stonewalling a new collection of charging orders would have appeared.

Winston has not got the balls to go with National because if he did and changed his way he would always be thinking about a legacy that he might or could have given Bill English and National a record fifth term. You the voter might laugh but if Peters got his act together and worked with National and Bill English to advance the way they go about fixing the Welfare System great things could be achieved for NZ and their population.

    Setting the minimum wage at $20 will end up with a lot of people out of work and the cost of goods and services will skyrocket, so nobody will be any better off. In fact, the so-called ‘poor’ will be even worse off. Even John Key understood that.

      Eg tourists already complain about our dear coffee and beer.

      As we gradually work out way towards the insane position where there will soon be fewer net taxpayers than net beneficiaries the system will tip into unsustainability. When the balance is reversed and there are an increase in the proportion of net taxpayers cf benes then he will have made a gain. Until then, Two Time Bill keeps on losing.

I note Labour’s #2 transport spokesman (Twyford) wants to do away with the policing of vehicle relicensing.

It’s far too hard for his constituents to be responsible for looking at their windscreen every week or so and relicensing the vehicle when required.

  In Australia, Perth anyway, cars don’t have registration details on the windscreen. Police can tell if a car is registered or not simply by looking up licence plate details. So maybe that’s where we will head in the future. Having said that, it still won’t ensure that people register their vehicles.

Rumour has it .The real story behind the scenes at the so called coalition talkfest,and not picked up by the dumb Mainstream Media,is the possible demise of NZFirst Leader Winston Raymond Peters.
It is said to be back to the future when Peters mentor Rob Muldoon was outflanked by a well known feminist in the National Party who crossed the floor and in essence it was the beginning of the end for Robb Muldoon.
Shades of the end of Muldoon and history repeating itself is happening right now for Winston Raymond Peters.
In a couple of deliberate leaks from the coalition talkfest,it has been revealed Peters has lost the plot, and has been out flanked by two of his once trusted Lieutenants Ron Mark and Shane Jones.
Both are looking to the future for their continuity in politics,and Peters is talking about the here and now. They are now in charge, If they succeed in their endeavours to keep running the show. Not only Winston Raymond Peters will lose . So will our stable economy and NZs well being in safe hands of Bill English and National Government.
The Government of “Commie Chic” Comrade Ardern will get the job of running NZ by “default”.
Just to reiterate National Party got 56 seats and Labour Got 46 seats National got 200,000 more votes than Labour. What part of that do Ron Mark and Shane Jones not understand.

  I certainly hope not; it would be a massive slap in the face to the MP’s that won those seats in 2014, and campaigned hard to retain them in 2017.

  I know nothing of this but Peters performance in Parliament in recent months required the gentle assistance of Mr Speaker to help him in what appeared to be “senior moments”.
  
  If neither National nor Labour can be certain they can contain Winston within an agreement they both should refuse to deal with NZF. They could then either agree to a term together or ask the GG to call a fresh election.
  
  It’s looking like its time to excise the boil. Senility can be irrational and appear spontaneously and intermittently. No agreement is possible with the irrational.

His closing few paragraphs point out the absolute hypocrisy from the NZ First leader and his sycophants:

So it pays to keep this in mind when Peters rails against “backroom deals”. To mere mortals like you and me, the phrase refers to agreements and decisions made in secret away from public scrutiny. But that can’t be what Peters meant.

How could it be? He just spent an election campaign refusing to disclose to the public whether he preferred National or Labour or his criteria for choosing between them. He’s negotiated with both parties behind closed doors under the protection of non-disclosure agreements. He’s responded haughtily to media inquiries about how the talks are progressing and the types of things that have been covered.

So while those backroom talks have concluded, the matter has now been referred to the NZ First board. Not only will this committee meet behind closed doors, but the identity of some of its members is also, apparently, a secret. This was deemed necessary, it seems, to prevent the media – in its temerity – from questioning these unknown people before they meet to choose a prime minister away from the public eye.

I am certain that, if the question was put to him, Peters would deny that these deliberations constituted backroom dealing. But if that’s not backroom dealing, while openly telling voters what kind of government you will give them before they vote somehow is, then the phrase has actually no meaning.

I am filing this column on a Sunday. By the time you are reading it we may well know who will lead the next New Zealand government. Or maybe we won’t. It depends on the efficiency of the NZ First backroom, I guess.

With October 2017 being the 100th anniversary of the Bolshevik Revolution, I’ve been doing quite a bit of reading on this world shaking event.

Of course there have been the utterly deluded pieces like this arguing that the revolution was a “noble & ambitious” venture which have correctly beem demolished in the comments section:

I admit that what I want to see is NZF refuse both groups a deal on supply and confidence and take the cross benches.

A couple of years of ALL of our politcians having to negotiate every piece of legislation will sort the men out from the boys and, in the long run, eventuate in strong stable government IMHO.

It’ll also mean less bloody stupid knee-jerk legislation which will be a VERY good thing.

  I’m puzzled why the author (Chris Trotsky) hasn’t looked in the mirror and realised that he too is white. His attack focuses on a small window in history which shows that he who has the best technology generally is in control. Trotsky goes on to discuss clever Indian men who will take over but what he doesn’t say is that most folk from India are low paid labour units.
  
  There are a lot of European based (white) companies taking advantage of this but many are owned by Chinese interests and by Middle Eastern money.
  
  No mention of this. Trotsky obviously gets paid by Stuff to dribble out spittle so I guess we can expect more.

  Cripes I am endangered minority member too: grumpy (sometimes), old (youthing disgracefully), male (unlike one of my charges who’s gender fluid), white (shampoo has never got rid of my age spots and my hair is no longer colourful), protestant (and proud of it), married (actually and continuing) and a serial population regenerator (expecting 40 gt gchildren over time–some children are yet to get to college age so there remains plenty of opportunity.
  
  I ‘m not going to the rubbish dump voluntarily. As one who have lived in the tropics I know about how life slows down there and how us foreign drop-ins were much more vigorous. Life in the colder climes appears to stimulate mental alertness. Skin colour appears associated with place and place with vigour so economic power may have come that way.

“Could be cloudy, could have showers”. Whanganui has a unique climate which depends, From the north if it goes east or west of Mt Egmont. If from the south if it goes east or west of Wellington? I’m sure they have no idea so they cover all bases time and time again. The other option is to forget us all together in the forecast. Well I could mow the lawns or I could go back to bed.

Big stories on TV1 and TV3 – I saw TV 1 news and they were in a field looking at rotten potatoes in the ground, it was the blackest of days on Sunday.

And then, the truth: Someone forgot to re-order chippies at Pack n Save thus beginning some kind of snowball panic, picked up by reporters that never check anything. The Stuff story has it all, and the comments are a good giggle…

A couple of days ago Eminem (or as we like to endearingly refer to xim, Feminem) dropped a new single called “cypher”.
In this song he ‘freestyle raps’ about a coffee pot and how it’s hot, should he drop it on President Trumps head, probably not. That’s not the subject of this story anyway.

  ABS, in one of the photos released showing the inside of the room there are quite a few cartridge cases scattered about in one photo, not thousands but probably a few hundred. The photo’s aren’t by the windows so might not be expected to see all of the ejected cases. Of course some may have gone out the window, no idea if that is likely though.
  
  The problem with all additional shooter narratives is that none of the hotel’s windows open, so to shoot out the window must be broken, and apart from the very obvious and visible ones where the known shooter shot from, there are no other broken ones. maybe someone else shot from elsewhere, but where ?
  
  The issue that I have noticed is that the security guard was shot several minutes (I’ve seen it said to be 6 minutes) before the shooting into the crowd started, and the gunman fired “a hail of bullets, over 200” inside the hotel. The information was relayed to police who knew exactly where this happened. A SWAT type squad was in the hotel and although they took some time to get to the floor (there were padlocked doors it is said), they didn’t try to break into the room until some 40 minutes or so after the shooting outside stopped. The claim worries about bullets penetrating the hotel walls into other rooms, but they are reinforced concrete, not very penetrable. So why the wait, is that “protocol” ?

    Not sure about the lack of fired cartridge cases but I am presuming they would be on the floor around the two broken windows. Not shown in the photos.
    
    In an earlier photo there was a hammer on the floor and the comment was made that this was used to break the windows.
    
    I note that there is some back tracking on times and when the guard was shot. He apparently had a maintenance worker with him concerning an alarm on a faulty door on that floor.
    
    They talk about the door to the room looking like Swiss cheese after 200 rounds were fired through it. This apparently was when the now missing guard was shot.

At the height of the media created ,fostered and spread moral panic called Black Lives Matters our own “news” media would lead the nightly Hate Hour whenever they could with stories of evil white cops shooting peaceful black men in the back . Why such mundane crime stories from the US would be of interest to us in Aotearoa , formerly New Zealand is beyond me.

But now there’s been a sudden upswing in the murder rate in another country the media like to promote as a possible alternative to world leadership , Germany .

‘The number of murders in Germany has steadily declined since the start of the century. Nonetheless, in 2016 the number of murder victims rose by 26 percent to 373 in comparison with the previous year. That was the highest recorded number of murder victims in over a decade.’

Germans , famously ordered and law abiding and yet their police have lost control of their city centre parks . How could that possibly have happened ?

This story doesn’t tell us that both the victim and suspects are Africans . Why ever not ? Black Lives Matter?

Why don’t our media focus their attention on these cases ?

Faesenkloet, who has owned and operated Golf Warehouse stores across New Zealand for 40 years, plans to open a warehouse in Australia to directly ship goods to his customers here tax-free.

There are a number of issues with his argument:

1) Unless he sets up an Australian company (with all the associated compliance costs etc), he’s still a New Zealand company selling to New Zealanders so has to charge GST. It doesn’t matter where it’s shipped from.

2) If he does set up an Australian company, he’s going to have to hope it’s not too successful, otherwise the IRD will require him to collect GST anyway, as it does with Amazon, Netflix, etc.

3) Unless you’re only planning on buying golf balls and cheaper shoes etc, his customers will go over the GST free threshold and have to pay GST anyway when the goods land in NZ (plus the associated additional fees).

4) He’s worried about Amazon coming to Australia. Fair enough; they have massive buying power and should be able to sell a lot more cheaply than he can. BUT, they will have to, and already do, charge New Zealanders GST.

5) At least one person from the IRD is sure to have read this article too, and his company will probably be red flagged and watched 🙂

Don’t get me wrong, I do feel for New Zealand & Australian retailers who are already struggling due to increased competition from overseas, and soon even more so from Amazon with a warehouse in Australia. But if he thinks he can get around charging GST, he’s wrong.

  I don’t think he is wrong. He wont have to collect GST on sales out of Australia into New Zealand. He would if he was selling into Australia from here in any volume. He will have to set up an Australian business and pay tax there on any profits, but that is not hard to do.
  As long as sales are under $400 his customers wont be paying NZ GST and if he does want to compete with Amazon on on line sales into NZ he will pretty much have to set up in Aussie. Not only will he be competing with Amazons buying power but with a 15% tax advantage courtesy of our tax system.

    As per my point (1) if it’s a New Zealand based company, selling to a New Zealander, he will have to charge them GST. It doesn’t matter if he warehouses it in and posts it from Australia. If I had a drop ship company that sent goods from e.g. the USA or China, I’d have to charge my customers in NZ GST because I am a New Zealand company, based in New Zealand, with offices in New Zealand. There are plenty of examples of companies that do this in NZ. If it was that easy to get around, no one would import goods, warehouse them and then sell them from NZ; they’d just drop ship everything and avoid having to collect GST.
    
    However after doing a little more research, I may be wrong about my point (2). It looks like the threshold of sales at which you have to collect GST is only for digital goods. I assumed it was for physical goods too.
    
    As for my point (3), have you see how much even an individual golf club can cost? I’d say a pretty high percentage of orders will be over the $400 threshold.

      I do think there will be a lot of this done though. It is probably not so much the bricks and mortar retail threatened by Amazon as businesses which are predominantly on line. If they have to charge customers 15% when Amazon don’t it will be very difficult for them.
      
      I do think that when the dust settles after the election there will be moves made to protect the GST revenue.

        Amazon, who appear to subsidize their retail price undercutting from phantom income, will cause havoc to local retailers.
        
        Amazon will aim to avoid GST effects and AUS based NZ businesses will find it hard to escape it. The $400 limit is only an admin rule–a blind eye to avoid unrewarding work. If the trade issues grow the revenue authorities will have to review and plug the gaps. Predatory outsiders shouldn’t be allowed to damage local businesses. Monopolies were once tamed.

Apparently, he actually received considerably less (three seasons of declining production DO that to you, and his protest of the national anthem wouldn’t have helped much either).

Apple’s first “vice-president for diversity,” an African American, is in hot water over comments about diversity.

The Telegraph reports:

The first ever vice-president of diversity for Apple has apologised for saying that a room full of “white, blue-eyed, blonde men” can be as diverse as a team which includes women and people of colour.

Denise Young Smith, who is herself African American, told a conference in Colombia that diversity did not necessarily mean a range of skin colours or gender.

“Diversity is the human experience,” she said.

Denise Young Smith has since apologised for her remarks.

WhaleOil is a bit up himself me thinks. He has this article on the left wing playbook, but where I have to giggle is that he makes the following statement: “…to shut down influential new media like Breitbart and Whaleoil and a “dangerous” individual like Milo Yiannopoulos and Cameron Slater.” There is no comparison between Breitbart and Whaleoil, and definitly nothing to put Milo and Slater in the same sentence. Milo is intelligent, articulate and extremely engaging. Slater is well, not in the same league. Now I don’t personally dislike Slater, but he has gone off the rails a bit and his anti Catholic rhetoric and Anti Bill/Key crap recently shows a slightly confused individual. The thing, however, that I can’t get over is his support for Winston, and the shit we are in at the moment. I can’t believe he did a 180° turn on Winston and encouraged his readers to vote for him. Fuck.
