Look, Taxinda’s only saying she won’t decide what taxes to sting us with till after the General Election because

She knows she can’t. Not much. We’re already being taxed to the hilt.

Borrow more, tax more, sell assets. Those are the only choices and there ain’t no more scope, Labour knows it.

Taxinda’s keeping it vague in order to keep all the don’t-know-don’t-cares like the one I described above enthusiastic. They’re going to be sorely disappointed.

To me, it all fits.

Jacinda > Mormon > Amway > Labour

  (Also known as carrot and stick approach.)
  It’s a bit like toddler-taming.
  If you give in to the screaming brat and reward it with goodies for bad behaviour. ..you will encourage bad behaviour.
  What we want is productive citizens and good parents.
  What we are doing is under-paying the hard workers, and rewarding the lazy bludgers who know by not bothering to use contraception, they will be paid to drag up more of the same.

I bought a product called Spray and Walk Away Shower Cleaner.

I sprayed my shower and walked away.

Some time later I walked back.

Again I sprayed and walked away.

This time I walked back with a bloody great scrubbing brush.

I now have a clean shower cubicle.

Maybe the product name needs a slight tweak 🙂

It just occurred to me for the first time, has anyone looked at gender pay inequality in the p*rn industry? Perhaps some expert SJW’s could look into this and make some calls for remedial policy?

Can someone point me to a summary of National’s tax cut plan to take effect next year, that Labour will cancel.
Labour has called it ‘giving millions of dollars to the rich’, which I am looking forward to, but I seem to recall the biggest % impact would be to low-medium incomes.
I don’t think National are giving enough attention to the impact to low-medium income NZ of Labour cancelling these tax cuts.

Frankly, as a right wing (but not necessarily National Party) political fella I’m getting worried about this election.

Has anybody else noticed that the NZ media haven’t actually mentioned the words ‘Bill English’ so far during this campaign?…. or, for that matter any of the other leading National Party people…?

It would be my worst living nightmare to wake up on Sunday 24th and find our country in the hands of a crypto communist like Jacinda Aden….. but that’s exactly what our media seem to be working for.

  Is the nature of a political honeymoon, especially with one as “photogenic” as Jacinda. She is new and bright….while everyone knows what they are going to get with Bill English as he has been around for years. So she gets media coverage, almost all of it favourable for the moment. But a campaign is a tough grind, with plenty of scope for stuff ups by the shallow and inexperienced…which is also Jacinda. Just wait for the debates.
  
  Also, I think BE is much more relaxed compared to the try-hard who did stuff like “Fight for Life” back in 2002. He has taken advice and lessons from John Key. Everyone thought Dirty Politics was going to be a circuit-breaker in 2014 – but the public saw through it and the National vote held firm. Key has been gone some 9 months, and National is still tracking to get a similar result this year. At present the Jacinda effect is stealing votes from mainly the Greens, then NZ First.

  Both One and Three News have had a fair number articles about Bill, and Three just did a “Bill at home” puff piece, so yes, they are covering him. I don’t think the media overall are all that partisan, although there are exceptions to that with individuals. The bias in the NZ msm is deeper, or more subtle than that, and it’s more of a cultural liberal bias than a party one.

Heard Angry Andy Little’s replacement, say that as a concession to their voters there would not be a top tax rate of 36cents.
Using the so called Prefu as an excuse,to say the tax would not be in Lie-bours punitive tax plan. What Angry Andys replacement didn’t say,they had discovered that their clamped at the hip Lie-bour/Green running mates,had in fact a top rate and a bottom line of 40 cents tax rate.
Better to let the Greens take the hit,so they Lie-bour could work on many many other propo
sed taxes.For their naive voters ,all they had to do was vote them in,and all the new taxes would be revealed,and **** the consequences.

Grant Robertson – Our next Finance Minister?

As we count down the final month before the election I would hope NZers would factor experience and track record in their deliberations about the next Government.

Good grief, when I look back at the real heavy-hitters who have held this post in my lifetime; Muldoon, Douglas, Caygill, Richardson, Birch, English etc – at least three of whom have gone on to interntional financial consultancy work after leaving Parliament, such was their competence and value.

And who does Labout now offer up to us?

Grant Robertson: never been in government, never a minister, no finance background and some would say never had a real job!

In Thailand the long time correspondent for the BBC reported on a scam whereby a Thai woman colluded with a local lawyer to forge signatures of legal documents to steal property off her expat husband valued at more than two million dollars.
She went to prison.
The lawyer sued Head & the expat for making him look bad.

Over there defamation is criminal not civil & a prison sentence may result.
Head is a high profile sort of guy and the case has now been dropped, but not for the other poor bugger.
Foreigners cannot buy land in Thailand so they can be easy prey to unscrupulous locals. I’m always reading about blokes who lose money their money when they give it to a local woman they’ve known for only a short time to buy a house. Chap goes away for a week, comes back to find the house sold and his wife scarpered back up country somewhere.

Just imagine Grant Robertson and Winston Peters teaming together as part of the Tax group to bring their views on taxation for NZ’ers. If Labour are able to do a deal to form the next Government that is what you can look foward to. Robertson has already quoted that he will lead the tax group of four or five others and Peters will make sure he is there so after Prosser’s revelation on the power company’s yesterday and Labour’s quest for more money to forfill their promises nothing can be ruled out. Another story that might be worth thinking about also is Phil Goff and talking with Jacinta he was with her on back benches last night and you could guarantee he will also be suggest how to fix Aucklands woes and stressing to the Labour Leader by helping him may get her votes from what is known win Auckland you win Election.

  The fundamental issues haven’t changed since then, so there’s no need for another.

It shows how little Ardern & Robertson know about the taxation base in NZ when they both keep parroting the mantra that a CGT is necessary because its unfair when all those working for salaries/wages pay tax on every dollar but those who make capital gains dont. Get real. Yes, everybody pays under PAYE … but nearly half (I forget the exact proportion) of PAYE taxpayers actually pay no net tax when you factor in all the benefits etc the lower income can get.
So those who pay tax and dont get anything in return are complaining? Not that I know of – yet those who effectively dont pay any tax are screaming for more hits against the ‘rich pricks’.
Is this balanced policy??

  The first test of a tax is: is it collectable? The second: is it fair? The third: is it affordable?
  
  CGT in most forms don’t easily meet those tests. We once had stamp duty where a tax was imposed based on the value of the property being transferred in the document. If the stamp was was not fixed or the document stamped as having the duty paid it was not available for Court use.
  A simple tax but the assessment of value was not. How do you value shares in commercial entities not traded on a stock exchange? This is expert work with even more experts with contrary opinions. Not to mention lawyers seeing opportunities.
  
  Most former taxes have been abandoned in favour of cash based income taxes and GST which is a close cousin.
  
  Don’t mess up what works.

The cooling world

There are ominous signs that the Earth’s weather patterns have begun to change dramatically and that these changes may portend a drastic decline in food production — with serious political implications for just about every nation on Earth. The drop in food output could begin quite soon, perhaps only 10 years from now.

The evidence in support of these predictions has now begun to accumulate so massively that meteorologists are hard-pressed to keep up with it.

A survey completed last year by Dr. Murray Mitchell of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reveals a drop of half a degree in average ground temperatures in the Northern Hemisphere between 1945 and 1968. According to George Kukla of Columbia University, satellite photos indicated a sudden, large increase in Northern Hemisphere snow cover in the winter of 1971-72. And a study released last month by two NOAA scientists notes that the amount of sunshine reaching the ground in the continental U.S. diminished by 1.3% between 1964 and 1972.
To the layman, the relatively small changes in temperature and sunshine can be highly misleading. Reid Bryson of the University of Wisconsin points out that the Earth’s average temperature during the great Ice Ages was only about seven degrees lower than during its warmest eras — and that the present decline has taken the planet about a sixth of the way toward the Ice Age average.

Others regard the cooling as a reversion to the “little ice age” conditions that brought bitter winters to much of Europe and northern America between 1600 and 1900 — years when the Thames used to freeze so solidly that Londoners roasted oxen on the ice and when iceboats sailed the Hudson River almost as far south as New York City.

Just what causes the onset of major and minor ice ages remains a mystery. “Our knowledge of the mechanisms of climatic change is at least as fragmentary as our data,” concedes the National Academy of Sciences report.

What a cynical woman. Her belittling comment is what we can expect if she’s not shown the door. Robert Stout, John Ballance, John Hall and other men championed this cause, helping NZ be the first country in the world to grant the vote to women. I’m proud of that, but not proud of this non-leader’s words.

  I’m no expert in debt management, but it sounds like it could possibly make sense.
  
  Perhaps its like transferring your credit card debt to a new provider to get an interest-free or low-interest period.
  
  To get the maximum benefit from that, you need to be disciplined about reducing the debt. But I suspect most people who do it simply accumulate more debt.

  – everyone in a separate sound proof room
  – same question answered in turn by candidates
  – only one mic live at any point

        The admiral’s body was supposed to have been preserved in rum, which I guess is why, until the rum tot tradition ended in the Commonwealth navies, the rum was often known as “Nelson’s blood”.
        
        Here’s an explanation of the return of Nelson’s body from Trafalgar, with the link at the bottom:
        
        Despite preserving the body in near perfect condition through not only the long return voyage but also a week long storm labelled “The Storm of the Century”, the ship’s surgeon was greatly criticised for his choice of preserving spirit when common practice dictated using rum (despite no differing effects between spirits). The barrel in which rested Admiral Nelson needed to be topped up more than once on the return journey due to the body’s natural absorption of the liquid.

Wikipedia says the most famous driver of all was:
