Saw BE floundering around with a press stand up on TV1 News last night about fining parents who don’t care about their kids in the first place & military training

I got the same feeling I had when I saw John Key on the podium with Helen Clark when they agreed about the smacking bill just before he got elected.

Only in reverse.

Joyce should have known everyone would use the term ‘boot camp’. Complete failure with the public, they now think National have run out of ideas.

    There is nothing comical about youth who will not accept discipline. Our Police Courts are full of them. Thankfully most grow out by 28 but some never.
    I know of a case of an unruly 15 year old who snuck off to Australia rather than face Court again. The offending continued there into his forties. Now he is a respected valuer concerned about his children going the same way.
    
    Drink, drugs and maturation have a lot to do with settling down into society.

    Very interesting and a good lesson on politics. The Mayor is going to position himself as a saint with the media despite causing the violence and gain positive publicity. One has to wonder why those attending Unite The Right were so easily duped into following someone like Spencer who i have no doubt is a useful idiot for the left.     White people are starting to wake up, and the don’t like what happened to the world while they were asleep.
    
    As far as I can discern, what actually happened is far, far different from the MSM version of events. What really happened was that several thousand unapologetic white nationalists )”white nationalist” being defined as “someone who actually wants to take their own side in a fight”) z were given a permit months ago to exercise their constitutional rights of free assembly and free speech in Lee Park, a public place. When the city of Charlottesville attempted to revoke that permit at the last minute, and illegaly change the venue, a Federal judge stepped in literally the night before the event with an injunction forcing the city to honor the original permit.
    
    Their plan foiled, Charlottesville – in league with the Governor of Virginia, that living monument of human sewage, Terry McAuliffe – decided that night to let the Unite the Right crowd assemble in Lee Park, and then when they were all penned in like sheep and surrounded by riot cops, and in contravention of a federal judge’s order, unexpectedly and suddenly declared the legally permitted event an “illegal assembly”. They then forced the Unite the Right crowd into the streets, where thousands of armed and armored antifa and BLM thugs–who had been given free run to take over the city streets WITHOUT A PARADE OR EVENT PERMIT or any other official legal sanction – lay waiting.
    
    The police proceeded to make themselves scarce as the communist filth ran amok in the streets. Fortunately the Unite the Right men had anticipated being attacked, but because they hadn’t expected to be completely betrayed by the police -with whom they had been working closely for weeks ahead of the event in order to assure a safe and orderly public meeting -they got the worst of it.
    
    Given that the Mayor and Governor had turned the streets over to communist antifa and BLM scum, something tragic was eventually bound to happen. If it hadn’t been the Challenger Disaster, it would have been something else (and at the moment even the MSM is still using “alleged” to describe the culprit). And of course it figures that the worthless state police couldn’t even fly a helicopter right – what a bunch of corrupt and useless assholes

        The reasons the Nazis attacked the Communists was because they had attempted a violent revolution at the end of WWII and were attempting it again in the 30s.
        
        The National Socialists, having seen the Jewish Bolsheviks in Russia and Hungary slaughter millions of Christians, understandably wanted rid of this nihilistic influence.

      Just another speculation on my part; did the car driver turn up from nowhere and launch into running people over, or was he trapped inside a howling mob, and freaked out with fear? No-one is saying this so I presume it is clear terrorism this time.
      
      But what are drivers of cars going to do in future, fearing for their lives when encircled by a howling mob? Perhaps the impeding of a vehicle by “protesters”, should be illegal and/or very strictly policed, precisely to avoid this situation?

      If the Mayor of Charlottesville is in favor of the removal of the statue, then the Mayor would presumably have a vested interest in producing a “violent” demonstration (which would play into the narrative of the media).
      Since the Chief of Police of Charlottesville reports to the Mayor, the Mayor would have some influence over the deployment (or lack thereof) of the police at the protest.

        yes, this is not the first time a Democrat has allowed violent antifa and BLM groups free reign. We have seen the same in Baltimore and Berkely amongst other examples. Tragedy was inevitable. Both the alt-Right and the alt-Left are ugly and dangerous groups, but the Dems and the Left almost never condemn violence from their own side. Look at how quickly they rushed to blame the Right and makes excuses for a Bernie Sanders supporter trying to assassinate Republican congressman.

Absolute shocker of a long letter yesterday to the Herald, by Winston Peters. Promising support for “heavy rail” investment and network extensions, as a “solution” to Auckland’s urban transport problems.

I don’t remember even Rob Muldoon co-opting the cause of anti-car, anti-independence, communist cattle-truck urban transport policy. I suppose we can’t expect much from the same man who derailed the excellent, no-brainer, market-efficiency, Bolger-Richardson health system reforms. Often the so-called nationalist “right” is just the Statist left in drag.

  In 2010 the ACT party socialised all of Auckland into one big socialist entity, then watched it spectacularly fail to deliver any savings. Having been given a clear indication, yet again, that socialism is prone to be high cost the supposed NZ liberal-right is doubling down. The new ACT plan is to spend taxpayer money subsidising high costs in Auckland.

  I took time to read Winstons proposal and as an ex South Aucklander it seemed quite sound. Rather than running a line through Onehunga, and all the resouce consents and protests that would draw, taking a spur from Manukau and through farmland to the airport is a logical choice. Politics aside, I’m not a Winny fan, its a good Idea.

  A principled “centre right” would have pushed back with the aid of the facts (eg on the CAGW scam and the urban rail scam and numerous others) long ago. Making “winning elections” the sole priority and not bothering about winning arguments or the long political war, just guarantees that your great-grandkids will live under some form of totalitarianism. This will then require the hush money paid to her to be repaid, and Winston will face a breach of privilege in Parliament.   Just a word of caution here. Cullen had plenty of surpluses too. There is such a thing as a bubble economy. National had to face a downturn at the very time of taking office in 2008. But instead of fixing the fundamentals to put the economy on track, all they did was reboot the bubble economy. “Getting back into surplus” is merely a rehash of Cullen-era trickery rather than fundamental good economic management.
  
  The “growth” is mostly from immigration and secondly from working longer hours – productivity is a disgrace. And home owners treating their fairy-dust bubble “equity” gains as an ATM does the rest. That is based on debt that has to be serviced, and as more and more generations enter the housing market with it already high, that artificial stimulus gets played out.
  
  If we net out these little economic “cheats”, we have been going backwards since 2001. There will be hell to pay eventually.

  Demographia, a St. Louis-based consultancy that opposes top-down urban planning, keeps its analysis of international housing affordability elegantly simple. It creates a “median multiple” by dividing the median house price in a given market by the median household income. Historically, Demographia says a multiple of three or less suggests normal people can afford a home. That’s the base of its affordability scale. The maximum is five or higher, which is the point at which the survey describes housing as “severely unaffordable.”

Many years ago when the construction industry was in the doldrums in NZ I looked at working in the UK to enable the family to live a life we’d like to become accustomed to.
I made inquiries about obtaining a British passport & found that if my father was born in the UK I qualified. My mother was English – bad luck.
I’m wondering now how many more of these Aussie MPs are going to get caught out because surely if you must be a citizen to get a passport.
Not something your average Joe gives much thought to.
I wonder if Obama is an accidental Kenyan. His dad was born in a British colony. Maybe he’s British too . . . . .

    When I worked in the UK back in 1976 eh place was awash with “colonials” including Aussies and NZers and those from Africa and India etc., There were rules relating to their right to be in England, in fact different rules to those which applied to NZ and Aussie.
    However I am of the firm view that maybe one should decide who you are, 1 passport and stick with it. Might make life a little simpler and think of the All Blacks and the Olympics.
    I also believe you should have to return to the country that issues your passport to renew it. This would create difficulties for those who shoot through owing money. Hard to get bank accounts without a passport, hard to start up a business etc.,

The probation office in my town was recently demolished due to it being an earthquake risk and in it’s place has risen a new facility courtesy of the gracious taxpayers of this country.
However what did catch my eye was the placing of a sculpture of a Māori warriors head and a marae entrance arch near the front door of the building.
The reason it intrigued me was what the possible significance of this could be.
After careful consideration I came up with the following scenarios:
1. The new boss was a bone carving wearing white guy who thought it would earn him more cultural brownie points by putting it there.
2. Nearly all their “clients” are Māori so they are just trying to make them feel at home.
3. To smooth the path during the building consenting process it was agreed to commission the artefacts from local iwi in exchange for a mild stipend of koha.
4.Under new TOW provisions it has become advisable or even compulsory on all new gov’t buildings to have such items to pay homage to local taniwhas and spirits.

  I have a question about this “blessing the site” where an accident has occurred and someone has died. This appears in the media a lot, and I guess some local Maori elder does the “blessing.”
  
  My questions: Who contacts the local iwi or is there an 0800-KAUMATUA number that they call? Who pays the “koha”? Does the victim’s family have the right to object? (For example, the elder assigned to give the blessing is from a rival iwi, or the family is offended on religious grounds?)
  I can’t imagine the taxpayer is involved, as there is supposed to be separation of church and state in New Zealand.
  Maybe someone can bring me up to speed…

    The only insight I can offer on this topic is when a guy had a finger amputated in an accident at my place of work.
    He was a white guy and wanted no fuss made about it all except the standard safety investigation but was told that a blessing by kaumatua is now company policy and is compulsory whether you want it or not and so it was to be.
    These things in a lot of places have now taken on a life of their own and to question why is not looked upon favourably.

      I can believe what you are saying. I wonder why your company signed up to such a protocol? Maybe they were tendering for a government contract and needed to do so.
      What would force a company to adopt such measures if they have no Maori employees (assuming that all self-identifying Maori would want this style of blessing).
      I did a little work with a market research company in Auckland some years ago. They were tendering for a government research project studying the issue of Maori and smoking. The government brief was very specific that one of the researchers had to be a documented “Maori.” Fortunately, the company had a fair blonde who was 1/8th Maori, and this was sufficient to meet the government criteria.

    We have white crosses left on the side of road where someone died. Really annoys me. Next it will be in hospitals where someone failed to survive an operation. Then we will need Iwi to bless the various sites of death.
    I remember coming down a golf fairway, and there in the middle of the fairway as a vase of flowers cause someone had dropped dead in the middle of a run, not even a golf round!!
    Other people’s tragedies are theirs not mine. I keep my personal tragedies within the bounds of those directly effected by it. White crosses on the side of the road do not do it. Are permits required for this.

It would be very difficult to go too far in criticizing the sorts of “men” who rallied this weekend. I am forced to put the word “men” in quotes because they are only men in the most literal sense. In any other sense, they are cowardly, pathetic little boys desperate for attention. I am not interested in hearing, as I have heard from some people, that these imbeciles were “driven” to this point because of all the racism and hatred on the Left. There is racism and hatred on the Left — a lot of it, and we’ll get to that in a second — but that does not even begin to excuse them.

Seems like the mission of the Super Fund is gradually being eroded by adherence to the latest trendy causes and not about maximising investment returns to the taxpayer.
Investment is a hard nose business and if you don’t have the stomach for unpopular choices then maybe it’s not a game you should be in.

    Ok, first off let me say I don’t personally think the data was “hacked”. I think it was leaked.
    
    However, the “proof” that uses file times looks bogus to me.
    
    From what I have seen, this analysis just looks at the creation time stamps on the files.
    
    Two problems with using these for any sorts of evidence:
    1) The creation times get updated every time a new file gets created. Copying creates a new file.
    
    Therefore if the data was copied SLOWLY via a network onto a PC, then copied from there onto a USB stick, then the file creation times of the files on the USB stick are those of when the files were copied onto the USB stick, not when they were copied off the server.
    
    2) File timestamps can be modified. eg. with the Linux touch command or a very simple program in python, C, whatever.
    
    So unless there’s something that I am missing, this is bogus evidence.

      I’m pretty sure these guys would have thought of that. These are all senior systems analysts and security experts, and not particular fans of Trump, by the way – they just go where the evidence leads. (VIPS stands for Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, a group of former officers of the United States Intelligence Community).
      
      I would like to see a thorough breakdown though (although much of the technical stuff would probably escape me).
      
      There is the other fact though that, as Binney points out, the NSA has traceroute programs embedded all over the network and they would know if packets were being passed in the U.S or outside the U.S, they could trace them and see who got them in the same way they traced the Chinese hack to a building a China a few years ago. No such records exist for the Russia “hack” apparently.

      Iv’e already got a gender fluid stepson. For me, who was molested by pedos as a kid, that takes some getting used to. They were actively trying to recruit young boys, whose sexuality was awakening, to their lifestyle.
      Hetereosexuality has to be normal else populations cannot be maintained.
      Hedonism is pleasurable but nothing for me beats a committed marriage with children.
      Life’s not meant to be easy but the joy can far outweigh any downside. I would enjoy more years.

  In Dallas, a black nationalist activist shot and killed 5 police officers at a Black Lives Matter anti-police rally. Instead of condemning BLM, Barack Obama defended a racist hate group whose role model is Assata Shakur, a wanted black nationalist cop killer, at the funerals of the murdered officers.
  
  The Dems have become an extremist party run by the radical left. Obama, Holder, and Lynch made common cause with black nationalist hate groups against civil society. It began when Obama defended the vile racism of Jeremiah Wright and concluded with DOJ organized race riots. DNC boss Tom Perez addresses La Raza and his deputy Keith Ellison is a veteran of the Nation of Islam.
  
  The radical left wants to see Neo-Nazis gain prominence on the right to polarize the country. It wants to see our values and norms drowned in violence so that it has an excuse to eliminate free speech. It seeks to eliminate democracy by making the other side appear nightmarishly dangerous. It plots to impose a totalitarian system on the United States by empowering extremists to destroy the current system.
  
  And their opposite numbers waving swastika flags want the same thing. The difference is that they don’t control the Republican Party the way that the Alt-Left and black nationalists control the Democrats.
  
  Charlottesville is what happens when civil society fails. And those who set the terms of permissive discourse, who control the media, academia and social norms, are responsible for the failure.
  
  Conservatives don’t have that kind of power. It’s the left that does.
