I’m no fan of Sue Moroney but what a great job she did in holding the Attorney General, Martin Matthews, to account for his mismanagement at MOT.
Ignoring his Legal Dept’s concerns about the fraudster is bad enough, but as this article points out there are even more serious concerns about his behavior.

  Thank you for bringing that Spinoff bit to our attention. It is things like that and people like you that make this the best blog on the Net.
  I have been very critical of Sue Moroney in the past. I have joked about how she has been instrumental in increasing National Party politician’s majorities.
  But, by her actions in this matter she has shown far more political nous than any of the National candidates who have swamped her at the ballot box on three yearly intervals.
  I will be more hesitant in future when castigating Labour Party politicians.

    We (moi included!) are quick to denigrate politicians from the other side of the fence from us.
    
    But we shouldn’t blind ourselves to the fact that our politicians are, overwhelmingly, genuinely there to better their fellow citizens.
    
    Bad political eggs here are almost as rare as in our other service industries – the Police, e.g..
    
    Sue will never get my vote (which won’t worry her TOO much given that I’ve never set foot in Hamilton let alone voted there!) but she gets a ginormous uptick from me for her work here.

Different than when Hillary did it?

        This problem doesn’t actually exist within the RMA. The only problem was Len Brown (& Phil Goff).
        
        There is plenty of scope for councils to supply land at reasonable prices, as witnessed by the fact that Auckland Council is currently oversupplying the Auckland Region with land. The problems merely result of the truly awful nature of Auckland Council. Phil Goff deigns to supply virtually no land to Auckland City, because he insists on building huge, car centric, congestion causing, polluting, expensive & expansive sprawls around almost every other town in Auckland.

        The core problem is the bureaucratic bloat of larger Councils … where they lose the capacity to meet their infrastructure responsibilities and cope with growth.
        
        Take note of the consents rates per 1000 population per annum for May for smaller and functional LG units of Selwyn (29) Tauranga (15) Waimak (11) on the one hand … and the larger bureaucratically bloated Christchurch (7) Auckland (6) and the Woeful Wellington (3) on the other.
        
        Auckland is below the national average. Unbelievable !

        So to get a real sense of the residential consenting activity each month, the raw Statistics NZ monthly numbers should be multiplied by 12 (annualized) and divided by the number of thousands of people within the areas being discussed.

Typical of the bullying that goes on in NZ. We are one of the worst countries with bullying at all levels.

Its a social disgrace and one that is tolerated from the top on many organisations across all sectors.

Fact is bullies are cowards. Have had to fire a number of them over the past 40 years in business. In all cases when challenged they broke down like wimps especially the males.

Big at dishing the crap out but like being on the receiving end.

I always found great satisfaction when calling then out and firing them. All deserved it.

        You can’t have it both ways. Either there is more genital mutilation going on in Germany than there was before the recent influx of people from Somalia etc, or there isn’t.
        
        In either case, it has still not been established that things are worse for the victims, or for anybody else, as a result of their families moving to Germany, than it would have been if they had stayed in Somalia etc.

        As to the issue itself, I lean towards treating it as a health problem rather than a criminal problem. I am not in favor of outright legalization, but I am in favor of ending the “war on drugs” and ceasing to imprison or criminalize people who use them.

        Hmm. Seems a bit like an illegitimate “others do it too” distraction posing as a “set a framework of reference” argument, especially when I can understand from nasska’s pragmatic judgement about drug use and assisted dying (I’ll leave aside abortion) that there are no direct harmful effect on others. “Lowering the tone/helping to change expectations/modelling a choice”? Yeah, sure, but again, in the main and from a pragmatic point of view, those effects on others are indirect.

  He was not saying anything about “Jewish lobbying power” bringing down Europe. Your reading that into his remarks, and it’s a pretty silly interpretation, to say the least. It is in fact obvious, given the location of the speech and who he is talking to, that he is referencing the EU’s lax attitudes towards Islamic immigration and terrorism, and saying that it is part and parcel of it’s attitude towards Israel, and this attitude may well destroy Europe.
  
  Note the location, Budapest. Hungary is a country with a staunchly nationalist government, that has refused Merkel and the EU’s demands to take in millions of Muslim “refugees”, and a nation that Israel has good relations with by the way. Plus he’s talking to other Eastern European nationalist leaders who are standing up to the EU over Muslim “refugees”. Obviously, he is talking about the shared enemy, Islam, being a threat to both Israel and Europe, and that the EU has to change it’s attitude towards Islam, including it’s pro-Palestinian attitude. That, not your “Jewish lobby” interpretation, is clearly what he was saying. Especially, as I said, the very obvious clue that he’s talking to nationalist leaders opposed to the EU’s policy regarding Muslim immigration and refugees.
  
  And he’s right. The EU’s anti-Israel/pro-Palestinian ideology is tied at the hip with it’s lax attitude towards Islamic immigration and the “refugee” invasion. And that IS a threat to Europe.

Judge: Dotcom spied on two months longer than previously admitted .

The illegal spying which earned Kim Dotcom an apology from former Prime Minister Sir John Key went on two months longer than previously admitted, according to a High Court judgment.

The revelation – if accurate – would open a can of worms over sworn admissions the GCSB has made in the High Court and the Court of Appeal over assistance given to police ahead of the FBI-inspired 2012 raid which saw Dotcom and three others arrested.

It could also raise the possibility of a fresh apology to Dotcom because Key’s apology was in the context of spying from December 16, 2011 through to January 20, 2012.

Questions have been asked of Prime Minister Bill English but he has not responded. A spokesman for GCSB Minister Chris Finlayson referred questions to the GCSB, even though previous issues around the illegal spying have been handled at ministerial level.

There are also questions for the office of the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security.

The previous Inspector-General investigated the unlawful spying and ruled there was “confusion” over what residency meant and how it applied to the GCSB’s law at the time.
