      Insurance Co’s just LOVE “Climate Change”. They can up their charges in an almost unlimited fashion and have a ready made “justification”.
      
      But they have form on this. Back around 2000, Munich Re was pulicizing this “hockey stick” like graph showing how insurances losses had accelerated with all the dreadful weather that they attributed to (back then the name) Global Warming. What they very deliberately failed to do was to publish the companion graph, the one that showed the value of property insured in the most at risk areas.
      
      Turns out that the entire increase in losses could be attributed to that increase in value; so in Florida for example, the value of buildings in Hurricane vulnerable areas had increased enormously. So even though the number of Hurricanes making landfall is at historical lows (so much for “climate change” causing more hurricanes), the costs to insurance companies when one does hit is far higher.
      
      This is absolutely typical of the thoroughly dishonest, and that’s deliberate dishonesty, fraud if you like, of the whole “Climate Change” industry. The Insurance companies as I say, just love CC, it generates money for them in significant quantities.

    Buffet doesn’t disagree about climate change, he disagrees as to it being a negative for the insurance industry because he see it as presenting opportunities for business.

      It quite simply shows empirical evidence that 73 out of 73 climate models overstated, in many cases massively overstated, the projected impact of CO2 on global temperatures.

        Griff, there is a strong correlation between mid-troposphere and surface temperatures, just as there is between mid/shallow ocean and surface temperatures.
        
        If you feel comfortable dismissing Dr Spencer’s research on the basis that he has a faith, and, according to Wikipedia, he once got a calculation wrong then you really are beyond any form of reason.
        
        How vociferously you dismiss the assertion that the observations don’t match the projections (ergo the hypothesis has been invalidated), it matters not one bit because you’re wrong – the evidence is now overwhelming.

        Now Griff, the graph you linked to shows increasing temperature anomalies. So what? I agree that global average temperatures have been increasing over the last couple of centuries. Just as they cooled before that. And warmed before that. Rinse. Repeat.
        
        My point, which you’ve somehow misunderstood, was and remains, that actual temperature observations are well below predicted temperature trends, ergo the climate models on which the whole global warming theory have been based are now scientifically invalidated. Poof. Gone. Useless. New theory needed.

  Quite a few big projects underway to capture and sequester CO2. One that looks promising is Iceland’s work in which CO2 injected under the sea converted to rock within 2 years.
  
  If these initiatives become cheap enough they could change the climate change science dramatically.

Last March, then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch told the Senate Judiciary Committee that there had been official discussions about prosecuting “deniers.”

Hasnt it been fun this week watching our wonderful media in between posting Trump hit pieces has without any shame taken to kicking English over moving the pension age. Totally ignoring polling has support at 70% but having spent 8 years smacking Key around and calling him foolish for his promise not to move the age its quite an impressive flip flop. The spin of Labour adopted wholeheartedly by the media that its unfair to Jacinda and her friends is dare I say making them look a bit silly.

Air New Zealand, Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin join forces

Air New Zealand is teaming up with rival airlines to form a trans-Tasman aviation lobby group to tackle – among other things – the fees and facilities at the airports they use.

Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin Australia, TigerAir Australia and Regional Express (Rex) will join Air New Zealand as founding members of Airlines for Australia and New Zealand (A4ANZ).

Airport services and charges are high on the agenda with Air New Zealand chief executive Christopher Luxon calling them out as the group was launched.

  In my industry (nothing to do with garbage btw) If people turn up impaired by either drugs or booze people can die, yet we only test on commencement of employment or an LTI lost time injury so on one hand yes people can do as they wish in their own time but you put my other 40 employees in jeopardy then goodbye and good riddance and fyi I have had many prospective employees not come back after they were made aware of our testing policy and they can fuck off to KFC or wherever for all I care and there are only so many facepalms I can manage at once by you labelling it racist the mind boggles at that attitude

        The testing industry and the reefer madness believers both are happy to continue to enforce this silly idea that blood testing, that shows up use up to a month or more ago, must be adhered too.
        A blood test can not tell if you are stoned or not.
        It can not result in a conviction for health and safety purposes .

        No you can’t police staff behaviour outside work but it is their responsibility to turn up for work ready and able, and you can discipline them for turning up drugged or over alcohol limits.
        
        The only way you will detect cannabis traces a month after use is if they are chronic heavy users – three or more times a week over a long period. Basically. Their system is so saturates with dope traces, the body takes a month to clear it. I can’t imagine many would trust those people to work alongside

It didn’t happen that long ago. We have film of the camps. There are still Jews alive that went through it – still with the numbers tattooed on their wrists. Germans are still being hunted down and brought to trial because of the things they did there.

    No warning from Spark — I’m not a computer expert so my first reaction was the computer must have been infected with a virus of some sort.
    After deleting them the computer and my phone all is OK.

    Yep Xtra has been dog tucker all today.
    
    However after years of the Yahoo crap one’s expectations are not high.
    I was transferred over on Sunday and had 700 double up emails come across again. I only saw on Saturday that in Yahoo the ‘deleted’ emails never actually delete so took ages to clean out years of that. Yahoo is processor heavy and after a few actions it gets slower and slower. You have to log out and log back in.
    Yahoo was goodnight Irene once Google got going by 2003. It was a poor choice.
    Google Mail (Gmail) flushes out the Trash at 30 days. Yahoo remains full of Trash.
    Spark never informed customers of this because well I guess they are opposed to providing customer service. Moutter fired hundreds of CS staff when he came back after his stint at AIA.
    
    Supposedly a ‘bonus’ according to our lustrous media is that T.O.P. Catkiller Morgan’s son is a shareholder in SMX, the new Spark email platform. That made me roll my eyes.
    The low IQ scribblers could not actually identify why this is a good thing.
    
    Since Simon Moutter has been in charge the joint has got even worse.
    Telecom NZ/Spark have made an artform out of having utterly dreadful CEOs.
    They are now a service retailer not an infrastructure company. Infrastructure went to Chorus. However they appointed an engineer with the personality of a monkey wrench to be CEO instead of a person who understood the retail game ie Chris Quin. Quin took his considerable skills off to sell peanut butter and milk at Foodstuffs.
    The opportunity to ‘do better’ was quashed yet again by the board.

    I wonder if this will be similar to the Telecom stuff-up in the early 1990s with ICMS (I see a Mess)
    This was based on Telecom NZ selecting a computer system that had the largest customer base of 50,000 customers in a Texas town and was set up in a Telecom R.O.C.in NZ with 500,000 customers. It was a cock-up for quite some time and fortunately then they had IBM as an integral partner so IBM chucked a few ‘free’ AS/400s at it.
    This was when Telecom were 20% of the NZ stockmarket capitalisation.
    It was a poor effort by a large company. Fast forward to 2017:- Can do better….
    
    Telecom/Sparky is fortunate that its main competitor is Vodafone. Vodafone is British so they have not heard of customer service or if they heard about they shot the person who told them about it. Vodafone have been crippled in NZ since they went with an abortive billing/CRM system about 10 years ago.
    
    Vodafone provides a nice umbrella for Spark to hide under and sneak behind the skirt of that nice lady TINA – There Is No Alternative.
    Slingshot does not count and 2 degrees has had an ongoing month of trouble.

        There are 1.5+ million NZers who associate as ‘Christian’ and probably (sorry, couldn’t find the stats) a few hundred thousand that are regular churchgoers. That 16,000 submitted something says to me that the majority decided not to. Hardly subterfuge.
        
        Surely there must be some of their poor misguided sheep capable of making an original submission

The list we obtained includes obscure campaign staffers, contributors to Breitbart and others who have embraced conspiracy theories, as well as dozens of Washington insiders who could be reasonably characterized as part of the “swamp” Trump pledged to drain.

The list is striking for how many former lobbyists it contains: We found at least 36, spanning industries from health insurance and pharmaceuticals to construction, energy and finance. Many of them lobbied in the same areas that are regulated by the agencies they have now joined.

That figure is almost certainly an undercount since we only included those who formally registered as lobbyists, a process increasingly avoided by many in Washington.
