        Actually you will find that these crims have requested the information without a lawyer and as such it would be sent directly to them.
        Also the correct term is honest and diligent when referring to a lawyer needing to redact information that their client shouldn’t have… but that is also why we have the term criminal lawyer…

There is an article in one of the MSM this morning about the new Kapiti expressway and how it isn’t solving traffic woes…
Following on from that, has anyone noticed that the new smart motorway actually increases the time to get to town and is always down to 60kmh past the cameras in the morning now, irrespective of the traffic flows?

  The story is about the Kapiti expressway creating congestion at McKays crossing where it ends. This is definitely correct. Also unsurprising.
  
  The “smart” motorway was supposed to rely on a magic computer adjusting speed limits to optimize traffic flows. Well good luck with that. Most New Zealand drivers simply ignore variable or temporary speed limits.

I think we all know that Trump’s exec order today has little to do with coal mining jobs.

It is a rollback of the EPA’s power to dream up idelogically driven regulations in place of passing legislation.

One example was creating a regulation that classified CO2 as a pollutant. Absolute madness.

I noticed this morning on Red Radio that Mannings story has changed. No mention that SAS where part of the attack on the village. Also “when my witnesses awoke six of their family were dead” In other words they sleep through this attack or they were not there at all. See also said they had all important evidence but would not be disclosing it yet. Then in the next sentence slagged of tge defence force for drip feeding information…….

    Yeah, Bill English has handled this rather well in my opinion. By not giving in to H/S and now Manning’s demands, but leaving a bit of space “just in case”.
    
    It has tempered the feral elements and also shows that (until H/S allegations are proven otherwise), that importantly he “backs the troops”.
    
    Unlike the despicable Labour Party (here’s looking at you Andrew Little) and even so called “pro-Defence” NZFirst and Winston isn’t “backing the troops” which goes to show how two-faced Winston First is.
    
    To have both Labour and especially NZF in bed with the anti-military Greens (and the UF bouffant) on this issue is staggering and reflects very poorly on them.

      I agree niggly. English has effectively taken an inquiry off the table unless further evidence (not allegations/supposition) comes to light.
      
      By doing so he will be seen to be supporting NZDF and the NZSAS, and not bowing to the threats of Hager, Stephenson, Manning and Co. He’s effectively told them to pout up or shut up.
      
      Contrary to VicParking’s closing remarks, I rthink English has handled this very well. Part of the problem though is that NewstalkZB is the only media outlet who to date has reported. It obviously doesn’t fit the narrative for other media outlets.

        Thats what hppened when NZDF bought Afghan police colonel to NZ to testify against Stephenson on his last big story.
        He claimed refugee status …oh and his evidence didnt stand up in court.

  The villagers are now saying that the book got it wrong and the village that the NZDF confirmed as the one they went to was the village where the civilians were killed, not sure how they got it wrong in their original information to Hagar, but perhaps the locals didn’t know the name of their village until the NZDF stated where they were working. /sarc

The rugby club behind the big Fresh are a good pack of c*&%s too, and last I heard they are now running on their own again after amalgamating and then splitting from Te Papapa – although their second field is tiny. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday to undo a slew of Obama-era climate change regulations that his administration says is hobbling oil drillers and coal miners, a move environmental groups have vowed to take to court.

The decree’s main target is former President Barack Obama’s Clean Power Plan that required states to slash carbon emissions from power plants – a critical element in helping the United States meet its commitments to a global climate change accord reached by nearly 200 countries in Paris in 2015.

The so-called “Energy Independence” order also reverses a ban on coal leasing on federal lands, undoes rules to curb methane emissions from oil and gas production, and reduces the weight of climate change and carbon emissions in policy and infrastructure permitting decisions.

Fortunately, I have the answer.

Maori students will get support from the same place as European, Chinese, Indian and others. They will get support from the same place as straight, gay, trans, blue-eyed, red-haired, young and old students.

Maori students are New Zealand students, and no ethnic or other grouping is entitled to special treatment.

The RMA has to be one of the most misunderstood pieces of legislation ever.

I think you may be throwing the baby out with the bath water. To use the modern cliche ‘Hate the war, Love the soldier’. We can look back with hindsight and see everything that was wrong about the war with Germany. Hindsight is 20/20 vision. The population then relied on the MSM for their information. It worked then like it works now. The man on the Clapham omnibus didn’t have alternatives. As far as they were concerned Hitler wanted to rule Britain. The Blackshirts may have held a different view. All the MSM had to do was demonize Hitler. If we were going to be National Socialist we will be our own National Socialists. Not ruled by some Hunn dictator. The mentality was different then. We were proud to be British, we were proud of our country, we were proud of our achievments.

I was brought up in pubs. Mainly in the Black Country. When immigration started I rember two Jamaicans come in to the public. The workingmans bar. It fell silent. They stood at the bar. And they stood at the bar. And they stood at the bar. Aunty Liza wouldn’t serve them. Served everybody else, just ignored them. They got the message and left. I was only young and these were the first black men I’d ever seen. I was fascinated by them! Even at that young age I thought something was very strange. Nobody said a word about the incident. It was like an unwritten law a been upheld.

In my teens Enoch Powell gave the famous ‘Rivers of Blood’ speech. I can only say that there was jubilation. Everybody agreed with him. ‘We didn’t fight the war for niggers and wogs’ was probably a much over used phrase after he made the speech.

Perhaps then should have been a turning point. If Enoch had not been sidelined it would have been.

Many years later I was chatting with my Dad. I had done a few years in the army and we were talking about the war. My Dad had been evacuated at Dunkirk and returned by running up the beach on D-Day. He had seen his closest friend literally (much over used but true in this case) blown apart. He looked at me and he was crying. It’s the only time I ever saw my Father cry. I will quote him exactly, something you never forget. He said ‘We were lied to. I wish we had lost. I think things might have been better under Hitler’.

I’ve been through many things in my life. That without doubt was the most profound moment. That is why I’m here. That is why I hate this P.C./Marxist culture. That is why I hate my land being given away. I’m proud of my Dad. He may have done the wrong thing but he did it for the right reason. He was man enough to know he had been hoodwinked and admit it.

When the SJWs say that we fought a war against tyrany they may be right. But their tyrany is far worse. I celebrate those brave British men who fought many wars. They fought for us. Their future generations. They fought to keep these land ours. Not for us to give it away to savages.

      Where would I get that idea? I’ll give an off the top of my head short summary that is no means inexhaustible:
      
      1. The way the war against Poland was fought. Hitler’s exhortation to his troops to Kill without mercy all men, women and children in Poland. Recollections of Poles who saw the fighting backed this up with eyewitness accounts of German planes strafing columns of civilians fleeing the fighting.
      
      The Occupation.
      
      2. The closing down of all universities because Poles didn’t need higher education. The killing of professors in the initial stages.
      
      3. The rounding up of people for slave labour. Many Poles were sent to Germany.
      
      4. The classification of humans, sub-humans etc. This determined food rations.
      
      5. The number of people killed through street executions as well as concentration camps and death camps.
      
      The After Math
      6. Even when withdrawing, the total destruction of Warsaw. Hitler wanted to wipe the capital city of Poland from the face of the earth and when the Germans withdrew, the city looked like this:

      The full extent of Hitler’s plans for Poland eastwards was discovered. Even if they had not had been, the actions of the Germans in Poland during the war made it obvious.
      
      Oh, and I found this: Nazi crimes against the Polish nation

      It makes it a lot harder when you then have to also deny what else the Germans planned and did in Poland. Your denial doesn’t just affect the Jews, it affects everyone the Nazis invaded from Poland eastwards.

      The thing is, Poles knew very well what Bolshevism was, and being effectively run over by the Germans had to have been the stupidest way to protect “European peoples” from it.
      
      Given that my Grandfather fought against Bolshevist Russia in a 1919-21 war in which Poland won (that’s why my father’s family were deported to Siberia by the Soviets during WWII, in retaliation and fear of those who fought them), and given that the Germans allied with the Soviets in the invasion of Poland to allow my dad’s deportation to occur, I call bullshit on that Hitler wanted to “protect the European people from the scourge of Bolshevism.” Absolute, total rubbish.
      
      Read some history about the WWII in Poland. I suggest Norman Davies and Timothy Snyder as fantastic historians to start with. Then there’s this first-hand account by one of the few surviving Polish officers that were deported to Siberia (the rest were killed in the Katyn and associated massacres) : An Army in Exile: The Story of the Second Polish Corps

        Er. No. While I agree that access to history has been limited in NZ, since the advent of the internet and Amazon, it’s been possible to read good quality authors that don’t always make it to NZ.
        
        However, the Katyn Massacre, etc, given that I am from a Polish family that was deported, and given that the Katyn massacre was of Polish officers, I have known who perpetrated the massacres for a while now.
        
        Have a look at that book I recommended to you by Gen. Anders. It was originally published right after the war and it correctly attributes the Katyn Massacres to the Russians.

Motorists say Kapiti Expressway has made commute into Wellington twice as long

That may be, however, the old SH1 in Paraparaumu is now heaven to drive on. Hardly any traffic, making it much easier to use it to drive to Coastlands rather than taking the slower inner roads. Also, holiday traffic will no longer clog up our roads as it used to constantly.

The article states that some commuters are thinking of taking the train to get into Wellington now rather than driving. Welcome to the club. My Husband has been taking the train for years and now my oldest has joined him. It means that if you are tired you can just doze on the train rather than becoming a road hazard.

Don’t know if these road crashes today were caused by tired drivers, but I think it’s very possible. Last night was hot and sticky and would have made everyone’s sleep a little off.

  There is much muddled thinking in the article. Of course there is now congestion at the end of the new expressway heading into Wellington in the morning. That is unsurprising. However it has not made the commute to Wellington “twice as long”. The congestion has simply moved to the new choke point.
  
  Nevertheless the commute to Wellington has got ugly recently. However it is not the fault of the new expressway. This has occurred every March for at least the last 5 years. Summer ends. Education institutions start up again. Not many people go on leave in March. By winter it usually settles down.
  
  However I agree about the train. Usually faster. Cheaper and no stress. I am a convert.

They tell us our democracies are strong, that terrorism will not defeat us. They talk about values and institutions that define us. Then there are the concomitant hashtags, nice memes and candlelit vigils.

But something bad is going on that requires more than a candle and talk of solidarity. The truth is that across the West, fewer and fewer people show support for our values. Our solidarity is more shallow and momentary than deep and enduring.

I’ve been a bit hard on the United States (Trump) and Russia (Putin) lately, so I’ll balance it out with the following article on the current crazy Polish Government that is doing very worrying things.

Such as trying to prevent Tusk from getting re-elected as President of the European Council. That would be like NZ going batshit over Helen Clark’s position in the UN had she managed to get it.

Poland has a democratic spirit going back hundreds of years, but you wouldn’t think so looking at what’s going on today:

Jaroslaw Kaczynski’s conspiracy theory drives Poland’s sulky EU policy

Polish leader believes European official Donald Tusk was complicit in his twin’s death in 2010

The president of the European council, a position of some power, is Donald Tusk, a Pole and a former prime minister. But the present Polish government loathes him, saying he may be guilty of something close to treason. In March, it tried to stop his reappointment.

It failed miserably. Only one country voted against Tusk — his own.

Then Poland’s current leader, Prime Minister Beata Szydlo, went on national television March 23 threatening that her country of 38.5 million people would not sign the 60th anniversary declaration.

“If the declaration does not include the issues which are priorities for Poland, we will not accept the declaration,” she said. Brussels, she said, should be restoring powers to member countries.

In the end, the document was watered-down enough for Poland to sign — and for it to sulk through the ceremony.

All of this is due to a little man with white hair.

He is Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the 67-year-old leader of the ruling Law and Justice party in Poland. He is unmarried, monkish and lived with his mother until she died in 2013. He didn’t have a bank account until a few years ago. He used to give 20 per cent of his salary to a cat charity.

Once there were two Kaczynskis, and they were identical twins. Jaroslaw and his brother Lech sprang to fame at the age of 12 in the Polish film The Two Who Stole the Moon.

Forty-five years later they were running their country, with Jaroslaw as prime minister and Lech as president. In 2007, Jaroslaw’s Law and Justice party lost the parliamentary elections, and he was replaced as prime minister.

Lech continued as president until he, and much of Poland’s military high command, were killed in a plane crash in 2010.

His brother’s death has become Jaroslaw’s obsession, recast as the central event in a vast conspiracy involving Russia and his political opponents in Poland.

And since his Law and Justice party returned to power in 2015, that obsession has become an integral part of Polish government policy.

Kaczynski now holds no government position. But all agree that, as party leader, he makes the key decisions.

One of them has been to pursue Donald Tusk for complicity in the unproved conspiracy. Tusk was prime minister at the time of the fatal crash that killed Lech Kaczynski.

Kaczynski believes, without proof, that the Russians, brought the plane down to destroy an enemy of Russia. And then Polish agents helped in the coverup.

Tusk is only the highest-profile target. Kaczynski’s core conviction is that the entire Polish elite after the fall of communism in 1990 betrayed the country.

The last 25 years have been “a failure” characterized by “post-communist pathologies.” The men and women who led the country, including Lech Walesa, Poland’s first post-communist leader, were “Poles of the worst sort” with “treason in their genes.”

All these are Kaczynski’s words.

His alternative is a strong state, Catholic and conservative, with few checks and balances. His new government quickly set about hobbling Poland’s supreme court and bringing to heel state television with party loyalists at its head. And it has just pushed through a law limiting anti-government protests.

All very worrying, this world trend for batshit crazy leaders.

    If 60% of those over 18 own a home it is lot higher than that amongst those at age 65 at present.
    
    A future issue is of course how long it takes to save the deposit and what type of mortgage is afforded at the time one does this. This might speak to a need to focus on an effort (sans children) to pay off the mortgage by the time one is age 65.

This started being a read about the science of fake news, but I had to stop and have a laugh on reading about the bird experiment:

That tendency can get people to notice and repeat not just fake news, but fake news from fake people — software creations called bots. Bots, which automatically post messages to social media, get their strength in numbers, making it look like thousands of people are tweeting or retweeting something. Menczer, who has a background in both behavioral and computer science, has studied the way bots can create the illusion that a person or idea is popular. He and his colleagues estimate that between 9 percent and 15 percent of active Twitter users are bots.

The phenomenon he described reminded me of experiments with animals that engage in what a behavior biologists call “mate copying.” In certain bird species, for example, females prefer males who are already getting attention from other females. Such species are prime targets for manipulation with fake birds. In an experiment on a bird called a black grouse, scientists surrounded otherwise unremarkable males with decoy females, after which real females mobbed the popular-looking males like groupies. (The males were also fooled, in that they immediately tried to mate with the decoys.)

I’m guessing few will settle on the Conservative candidate, Francois Fillon. He’s under fire for organising a fake state-paid job for his wife (she’s been charged with embezzlement today), not declaring a €50,000 interest free loan, and introducing a Lebanese oil pipeline builder — with whom he signed a $50,000 lobbying contract — to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

… and he campaigned on openness and transparency. Seeeesh.

Car insurance $1000, house and contents $1800, rates $3200 so yeah, I was a little high there.

The total levy on car insurance will now be $8.45 per year.

“The new levy rates will ensure that Fire and Emergency New Zealand has the necessary funding to deliver essential fire and emergency services to both rural and urban communities,” Dunne said.

“Some commercial and public entities will face larger increases, though the new legislation will allow for certain measures to address affordability and fairness concerns that were raised during the consultation process.

“Local government will also no longer fund the costs of rural fire services, approximately $30 million nationally, from local rates.

“The Government expects local government to return these savings to ratepayers as a consequence.”

There are 2 courses of action that can be taken: Nothing or deleting the moderated comment and reposting with a slight variation, as sometimes the duplicate comment check kicks in if you don’t change the original.

and thought it seems a bit simplistic. For one, the study seems to lack many of the controls this type of research requires. My biggest question is how are they so sure its the lead and not something else? Would others who have completed academic research care to comment. (besides the claims that IQ is a less than fashionable measure of intelligence, anyway) Could there be an agenda behind this research?

Hurricane Energy has made a further oil discovery west of the Shetland Islands days after Royal Dutch Shell and BP won exploration licences in an area the UK is counting on to breathe new life into its struggling oil and gas industry.

The latest find adds to a series of successful wells drilled by Hurricane in a geological formation that analysts say looks likely to be the biggest new oil discovery beneath UK waters this century.

Shell and BP were last week awarded licenses to drill in nearby exploration blocks in a sign of renewed interest among large oil and gas groups in the west of Shetland region even as they withdraw from more mature parts of the North Sea.

Hurricane is expected to announce that initial data from its Halifax well indicates the presence of a 1km-deep oil column and that, crucially, it appears to be part of “a single large hydrocarbon accumulation” connected to the company’s adjacent Lancaster field.

This would increase confidence behind the London-listed explorer’s claim to be sitting on the largest undeveloped discovery on the UK continental shelf and aid efforts to attract investment in the field from international oil majors.
