      It would be improper for the Mayor or elected councillors to interfere with this. It is up to the CEO and I suspect the CEO wants to minimise any political consequences of proceeding with a rating sale. There will probably be action on this front after the Mt Albert by-election.
      Actually it does not particularly matter when the Council receives the rates in this case. Cumulative late payment penalties would be greater than interest on money borrowed by the council so the council wins in the end. There would only be a handful of such cases as most properties are mortgaged and mortgagees promptly pay outstanding rates when asked and add it to the mortgage (no doubt with an administration fee). Mortgages are not called this for nothing – the term means ‘death grip’.

        Good point. Historically councils would advise if there were outstanding rates if asked since purchasers and their solicitors need to check before a purchase is settled. Nowadays the requester probably needs to advise why he needs this information. Similarly while ownership information is no longer shown on rating records, councils will AFAIK advise ownership details to those who have a reasonable need for the information eg a neighbour seeking contact details of an absentee owner.

      This whole thing is a disgrace. It is not so much that Swedes “ignore it” as that they are not allowed to comment or complain, or they will get prosecuted for “hate speech”.
      
      President Trump makes a reference to the reality, and the MSM scum all around the world jump down his throat, saying he is making it up, or deliberately misinterpreting him to mean something he didn’t. No wonder Trump supporters are prepared to forgive their man so many character flaws, the world needs someone to be taking the fight back to the PC totalitarianism that is taking over the west. The minimum wage causes enough distortions and now with the unions growing this living wage we are ending up with a de facto minimum wage that is foisted on the likes of ratepayers who can’t decline to pay.

  All the pay scales currently with $20.50 will have to be upscaled also to keep parity.
  Right up to the Mayor’s salary of course.
  9500 Auckland staff would be affected to keep pace with the lower end of pay scales.
  Every Employer would similarly be on the ropes.

It is saddening to see the home of modern Democracy from the time of the Magna Carta in 1215, the now UK, is demonstrating, via rentacrowd, about the impending invitation from the Queen for the Democratically Elected by the US Constitution Donald Trump to visit.
This is sad because the former Colony of the UK are very close to the people of Britain.
Trump’s Mother was Scottish.
It is said that 1.8 million people have signed a petition against such a move, but of course the 68.2 million people have not.
I do not like Trump but will uphold the fact that he was correctly elected as President.
A sad face of Socialism – would be same here.

Still trying to work out ,who is the biggest clown and which of two mentioned people suffer from diminished responsibility and accountability. Our so called “privacy commissioner” put the boot into Westpac Bank for giving the Police financial records, of the guy with a face on him like busted grape,called Hager the Horrible,even though when he opened an account with that bank,he had given them authority in writing. Hager said his privacy was exposed. Yet the same busted grape face pest,didnt seem to be concerned about the privacy of Cameron Slater,when he sold a book full of private stolen emails belonging to Mr Slater, which earned him tens of thousands of dollars.Just to reiterate,seems diminished responsibility and privacy ,is an excuse for a” few rat bags” ,be it the privacy commissioner,or in this case the receiver of stolen emails Hager the Horrible,who seem to forever get away with breaking laws, that in essence are there to protect all of us.

  There has been a suggestion on Whaleoil that Niky Hager is preparing for a new pre-election book using emails hacked from National Party sources. However it could be emails that were hacked prior to the last election rather than new material.
  One would hope Government and National Party systems have not been hacked – there have been enough warning shots over this. Biggest risk could be MPs’ private email accounts.

  Yiannopoulos doesn’t claim to be conservative and agrees that Trump isn’t much one either. He only claims to be anti-authoritarian, counter-cultural and a champion of free speech. He once said that had he been around in the 60’s, he probably would have been protesting with the Left. I think Yiannopoulos sees himself as currently aligned with the Right rather than any sort of leader or shining exemplar of the Right.

      Yiannopoulos is on record saying that the legal consent age of 16 is about right but that some people sexually mature, i.e. reach puberty, before this age. Calling him a pedophile for that view seems like a smear to me, but if he is ever proven to have broken the law surrounding the legal age of consent, of course I would denounce that.

And it’s hard to take the Herald seriously, when anything to do with Dotcom appears under the name of the Large German Gentleman’s biographer, David Fisher. Do they think their readers are so dumb that they won’t spot a rather obvious conflict of interest in stories penned by Dotcom’s head cheeleader?

US President Donald Trump created confusion during a rally in Florida when he said: “You look at what’s happening last night in Sweden. Sweden, who would believe this?”

Trump then mentioned the French cities of Nice and Paris and the Belgian capital, Brussels. The three European cities were all attacked by terrorists over the past two years.

Although Trump did not explicitly say it, his remarks were widely perceived in the United States and abroad as suggesting that an attack had occurred on the previous night in Sweden.

They weren’t widely “perceived” as him having said that. More like “widely reported” that that was what he said.

  Well, he was reportedly instructed to resign by Trump after the phone leaks came out because Trump has lost trust in him. It’s a murky affair to be sure. Trump also indicated that Flynn had been exposed by rogue members of the intelligence community acting against the Trump administration. I’m still unsure as to whether or not Flynn was actively working against the Trump administration.

China gets closer to another stake of the NZ meat-processing industry – this time in a small specialist Southland producer.

The Chinese have already taken a 50 per cent stake in Silver Fern Farms, one of the two big meat producers. It’s a controlling stake when one party owns 50 per cent and the other half is spread across a swathe of investors, perhaps thousands of them.

It doesn’t matter who owns the industry, some argue. If that’s so, why are the Chinese so eagerly buying upstream in agricultural countries around the world?

Seems to me we’ve stepped from the colonial era, when British firms owned many or most of our meat processors, into a new colonial era.

The Chinese firm moving to take over Blue Sky Meats in Southland, already owns another small meat processor in the South Island.

Been a lot of talk in the media and on here about the Cadbury’s factory closure in Dunedin and how New Zealanders will not buy their chocolate now because of the loss of brand loyalty and taste etc.
Well the fact of the matter is that 80% of Cadbury’s chocolate sold in NZ since 2008 has been imported from Australia anyway including the King Size Chocolate Blocks which are a big seller and at 2 for $5 on regular special they fly off the shelf at my local supermarkets.
So apart from some nationalist tub thumping cannot see much changing in reality as it is just a minor extension of the status quo.

  Trump managed to convince most listeners to his speech he was talking about an attack on Sweden. Let us accept that is not what he meant and that he was talking about rising crime in Sweden. Let us also accept that he is right about the crime figures and that he is right that there is a link to Moslem immigration although both these things seem to be in dispute. That still leaves us wondering what the hell he is doing talking about Sweden which is active in its cooperation with Nato and will be key if the US needs to bolster the Baltic states. He is certainly managing to put he frighteners on traditional US allies all over the world and has managed to add Sweden to Australia and mexico as Countries very worried about how impulsive and thoughtless he is.

    1. Why Sweden?
    As a Scandinavian race it’s one of the first true white countries. It’s also over run by Muslim refugees. Advising people of that fact lets white people know whats in store, and he doesnt insult larger countries like Germany and France. (whats GDP of Sweden anyway?)

  The basics of internal controls seem to have been absent in that Ministry. And the regiment of accountants there will still be coining big dough. This case has proven, beyond reasonable doubt, that the accounting staff at that Ministry are worthless. Indeed, if they had any honesty their salaries would be classified as Charitable Donations.
  I am not saying that every invoice must be scrutinised, but surely every invoice in excess of $10,000 needs some sort of approval. This is basic accounting.
  I would love to see the fake invoices she submitted for payment. Thieves like her do not have enough brains to make invoices out properly. Fake invoices should have rung alarm bells. If she had enough brains to make an invoice properly, she would have enough brains to know that the thieving industry has no future. Nowadays with our Companies Office being a world leader company searches are just so easy. The mugs did not do it.
  Don’t get me started on their Human Resources staff. Bloody hell! I’ll wager she had a huge knowledge of the principles of The Treaty.

  It’s interesting about this policy. There are two toilets that need to be separated into “Male” and “Female”. Historically by physical attributes but now they’re saying that it must be by “mental”.     That’s what I’ve always noted stigie. The one exception is if a heavy drinker adds dope to the mix. In some cases they find that they can handle more liquid after a few hits off a joint.

The State-owned media stars seem to be circling wagons over their pay rates.

This follows Bill English firing a shot over the bows of the board (they call themselves the “guardians”) of the Superannuation Fund and the million-dollar plus salary for its CEO Adrian Orr.

Mike Hosking on TVNZ’s Seven Sharp tonight was wrong in attacking Bill English for what Hosking called “interfering” with an appointed board of directors. English was right. Directors are answerable to shareholders, and in the case of the Super. Fund that’s taxpayers, and English in this case speaks for them.

Hosking was also wrong in arguing that the CEOs of most reasonable size NZ companies get more than a million a year. The median and arithmetical averages of the top 100 companies would be below a million dollars.

Orr is a good CEO, but much of the Superannuation Fund’s investing is through agents in passive funds, which are linked to market indices. These investments require minimal management.

The fund tops up from active investing, but Orr is backed by a good team for this.

Radio NZ has kicked off the media salaries debate, with news that its highest paid staff member is paid almost as much as the Prime Minister.

In this argument, on the one hand you have high-fee earning salary consultants pressing for higher salaries. On the other there is the fact that talent in the world is widespread. This has been proved time and again after calamities and the subsequent bounceback of organisations under shoe-in leaders.

It’s also been shown by bad performances such as that of the super-star CEO brought into AMP on a vast salary when the insurance company demutualised.
