    Said it before, the media finds one elderly confused person who cast two votes because she was concerned that her first one had gone astray and it’s a Republican voter fraud headline. Meanwhile we have the video of senior Democrat officials boasting that they bussed illegal voters around precincts to vote in a large scale exercise in vote fraud and…………..crickets.
    
    In fact despite Jonar’s claim below by “experts” those are merely Democrat paid experts. Most people accept that there is an endemic level of voter fraud with 99.9% carried out by Democrats. This does affect elections, even presidential ones. JFK’s victory in 1960 is widely agreed to have hinged on massive fraud to win the critical state; Al Franken became a senator on the back of illegal votes by felons, investigators have tracked more felon’s votes than Franken’s majority.
    
    Right now, the DO (J) is actively obstructing any attempts to clean up voter rolls and to ensure that only legitimate voters can vote. If Hillary Clinton wins the number of illegal votes will almost certainly be greater than her victory margin; that’s why the Democrats so vociferously object to any attempts to prevent voter fraud, they rely on it in many cases and nobody has ever looked at it seriously.

This is a disgrace. This will end up costing National. Not only has Kelvin Davis spoken out again this violation of human rights but so has Davin Seymour, Peter Dunne and Winston Peters. I hear many on this blog saying it inhumane not to allow assisted suicide. I wonder how many of you also support this denial basic human rights of medical care for a non violent prisoner.

  Its the parole board who have control over this situation not John Key. He is unable by law to override the Board. He made a statement to the effect that it would be good to allow this poor person to die with her family, buts thats it.
  If Politicans could influence Parole Board decisions the prsions would be empty and the streets full of prisoner’s whos mother inlaw’s step brother needs his toenails cut and only they can do it.

    If National did some internal polling and found out the treatment of Vicky Letele would cost National at the polls heavily Key would act.

      Incidentally, what is the proper process for a situation where you have determined that there is no basis for making an ex gratia payment by way of compensation but, to avoid litigation and put a matter to bed you negotiate a settlement?

Hottest year yet could mean agriculture suffers

This year is set to be New Zealand’s hottest on record.

” A National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) spokesperson says temperatures for the first 10 months of this year have been one degree warmer than the average, with November and December likely to follow suit.

Victoria University of Wellington physical geography professor and former NIWA principal scientist James Renwick said one degree may not sound substantial but it could have considerable effects.

Dr Renwick said a hotter summer could spell disaster for drought-prone areas and the agricultural sector is likely to feel the effects of warmer temperatures the most…”

      I know you deliberately miss the point all the time Stephie – but the whole debate about ~~Global Warming~~ (I keep on forgetting that now that there is no global warming the loony greenies have no re-badged their religion) Climate Change is about the anthropomorphic aspect of it.
      
      The climate has always changed. It is the inanity of belief that man can influence it significantly that is at issue – particularly given that there is asymmetry of research going on.
      
      Research funding into proving the myth of anthropomorphic CC is in the hundreds of billions. Any research proposal seeking to disprove the flimsy theories (ie applying the scientific method) is denied funding and the researchers excommunicated as ‘deniers’.
      
      We all have to remember that Christopher Columbus was a ‘Flat Earth’ denier according to the best minds on the planet at the time. Our science re CC is about the same level of sophistication as the 15th Century Flat Earthers.
      
      The confirmation bias on the subject over-whelming. And the conflict of interest for a 3rd rate institute like NIWA is similarly over-whelming. It has never been so easy for them to get funding for their peculiar form of welfare for homeless academics.

      Furst off I am a scientist. I have post grad degree in science, so I generally understand how science should be conducted.
      
      I have had two interactions with NIWA and in both of those, NIWA’s scientific method was very dodgy (to be polite).
      
      1) Request for tidal data. I requested their raw tidal data to try replicate some of their “the world is going to be flooded in X years” predictions. They refused to hand it out. They would only hand over “corrected” data. I then asked for the methodology they used to “correct” the data. They would not give that out. Shit science.
      
      2) Sediment research on Selwyn River: I was fishing on the Selwyn River and NIWA science crew turned up to take a whole lot of measurements of gravel sizes etc. I asked them about what they were doing and what they hoped to find out. They wanted to determine how agriculture was impacting on the sediments in the river by measuring them, then coming back a few months later and measuring again.
      
      I told them their methodology was flawed because they were talking samples from a very unstable part of the river bed. Only a month ago the river had been in spate and all the gravels had been moved. They would not get an apples-to-apples comparison. That didn’t seem to bother them. Bad science.

“Are fraudulent voters undermining U.S. elections? The simple answer is no. Rather, the threat comes from the myth of voter fraud used to justify rules that restrict full and equal voting rights.

A concerted partisan campaign to erect more restrictive voting rules is apace in many states, with Republicans pushing new limits on access and Democrats objecting.   stephie, I cannot see what is wrong with requesting I.D when someone casts a vote so that they can prove who they are. Democrats try to make out that it is racist because, for some reason, blacks might find it harder to get some sort of I.D. This is clearly bullshit.
  
  Someone did a video recently on this exact subject.
  
  He went around asking people on a white college whether they thought voter I.D laws were racist, and they all said yes, yes, because black people find it hard to get I.D. He then went to a black area and asked how many of them had an I.D and they all did and questioned as to why white people thought it would be hard for them to get one. “Why would they say that?”.

    Your point sounds reasonable, except for there being no evidence that ID laws reduce voter fraud, which is largely mythical.
    When you take that into account with the methods that are also used – making it more difficult to get the ID, etc – it becomes clear that these restrictions are simply aimed to suppress voting.

      Listen to the explanations the white college people give in the first half of the video – oh it’s too hard for black people because they might not have internet access, or might not know how to use the internet, or might not know where the DMV is. That is real racism – making out the black people are too dumb to be able to get I.D hence it is racist to have to have one to vote.
      
      I doubt there is any adult in New Zealand who doesn’t have some form of I.D – either a driving license or an 18+ card.

Outside of ACT Party cocktail gatherings or Sensible Sentencing klaverns, it’s rare that someone, anywhere, would be so crazed and/or so ill-informed that the S.S. “legal counsel”, Sheriff Joe Arpaio fan and former ACT MP Stephen Franks looks sane and sensible in comparison. But that’s just what poor old Josie Pagani managed to achieve on Wednesday afternoon. The always consistent Franks was up to his usual shenanigans, i.e., long-winded, sententious, swingeing attacks on any persons or institutions he disagrees with. Pagani, a useful idiot if ever there was one—Cameron Slater calls her “my punching bag”—played the role of patsy, endorsing nearly everything Franks said.

There was one area of major disagreement, however: Pagani wants to increase the level of bloodshed and mayhem in Syria, while Franks believes the United States, and its vassals and proxies, must stop supporting ISIS and Al Qaeda, AKA Al Nusra Front, AKA “the rebel groups”. It is an indictment of Josie Pagani’s naïveté, her lack of smarts, that she comes on National Radio and presents as considerably less rational and less humane than an S.S. operative and former ACT MP. But, even more, it is an indictment of the Labour Party that Pagani plays any part in its policy formulation on ANY topic.

So this edition of The Panel, more than normally, was a farrago of frabjous, footling, fatuous foolishness. Sensitive readers are warned that the following contains several instances of mad ranting, brutal lying and maddening imbecility….

        It’s actually more of a vocation than a hobby. It started in earnest in late 1999, as I listened, astounded, to the abysmal ignorance and bad sportsmanship that filled the airwaves after France outclassed the All Blacks in the RWC semifinal.
        
        I scribbled a lot of transcripts down at the time, and recorded on my old BASF tapes quite a lot of the bile being spewed by the likes of Doug Golightly, Martin “Moron” Devlin and Murray Deaker. A lot of it is still “resting” on the pages of old exercise books, and occasionally I type some of it up and put it online.
        
        In the beginning, I transcribed mostly the inane, vicious, mean-spirited and ignorant conversations I monitored on Radio Sport, occasionally transcribing stuff from Larry Williams, Leighton Smith and Paul Holmes on NewstalkZB, and more substantial but equally flawed conversations from (mainly) National Radio.
        
        I also spent a lot of time transcribing some of the startling and disturbing comments by NewstalkZB hosts that followed the killing of Pihema Cameron in 2008, and the Tony Veitch attack on his partner about the same time.
        
        I got into transcribing Mora’s ridiculous vanity vehicle as early as 2005, and started posting up my rush transcripts (some of my frenemies at The Standard call them transcrapts) a few years later.
        
        So why transcribe them?
        
        Because I was determined that I would not let these conversations, many of them simply terrible and awful beyond bearing, almost, simply disappear into the ether.

  As with a lot of these things, I suspect that had the cyclists caught up to Max Key at a traffic light and ‘debated’ with him about his choice of words, the outcome may have been slightly different.
  
  I appreciate that Max Key isn’t his father, but like it or not, he’s in the public eye. I don’t think that shouting things like this reflect on his Dad, I just think that it provides a wider audience of people who think that Max can act like a prat at times.

Acquaintance of mine and his friend were mugged in small hours of Saturday morning and had wallets and passports taken under threats. They waved down a taxi to call the police. There were about five offenders. They contacted banks quickly but not before my acquaintance’s card was pay-waved a couple of times at convenience stores. Hope the stores have cameras. They had passports for pub ID – moral here – get HANZ cards and leave passports at home. It is sickening. Hope police get them and they get a ‘strike’ warning (this is a ‘strike’ crime). However if it is a second ‘strike’ warning it will be all over the media and do-gooders claiming that future ‘third strike’ consequences are not fair and it was due to ‘poverty’ etc etc.

    Yes it is. It was aggravated robbery s235 Crimes Act as there was violence or threat of violence and more than one person was involved (or other criteria met). ‘Ordinary’ robbery (s234) is also a ‘strike’ crime, difference being no aggravating circumstances such as two people involved, etc.
    Remember all the fuss when Judge Tony Adeane read the ‘second strike’ to a couple of guys for robbing someone of a skateboard and phone. All the hand-wringing – they ONLY took a phone and skateboard but the hand wringers did not accept they had ‘stood over’ their victim – it was a s235 clear as day – if they do aggravated robbery again it is the full 14 years in the slammer – that is that.

A summary of what multiple reports have repeatedly said is in the laptops. Evidence of:

Accessing SAP data requires physically visiting a secured facility. They are never put on the web. Obviously they are supposed to remain on site. The guess based on revelations so far is she was selling them to nation states for money. They contain things like agents names.

Pay to play. Multiple examples of donations to Clinton Foundation yielding appointments to various bodies under Clinton’s grace and favour. One interesting example amongst many is where she appointed someone completely unqualified to a nuclear oversight commission which resulted not just in a complaint from the committee about her appointee’s lack of relevant skill but that uranium deal to Russia.

Donations from isis funders. Multiple donations from Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Admission of isis funders/suppliers. Email that states ISIS is funded and supplied by Qatar and Saudi Arabia and subsequent arrangement of large US arms shipments to said nations.

Careless use of classified material. This is a crime which doesn’t require intent which interestingly is the basis Comey used to let her go in July.

$1.8b to Qatar which has no extradiction treaty. Unsubstantiated report I’ve read which states the Foundation made that transfer about 3 weeks ago now. Makes sense. She’s going to prison. It’s either a fake death, a pardon which ain’t going to happen, a real death, an escape to Qatar or prison.

Anyway, hope that helps. And again, the media missed all of this, for decades. Or did they.

Inland Revenue looking to claw back tax on nearly 500,000 Kiwis’ electricity rebate

The taxman is eyeing up a big chuck of an annual rebate paid to electricity consumers.

Each year almost half a million customers – a quarter of all power consumers – receive a rebate, effectively meaning they don’t have to pay one of their power bills.

However that rebate is under threat with a top secret Inland Revenue memo revealing the department is considering taxing it at 28 per cent.

“It is the Commissioner’s initial revised view that lines companies’ payments of discounts to electricity consumers are not dductible expenses,” says the 27-page issues paper, marked “classified in confidence”.

I think we would all be more impressed if they managed to claw back tax money from charities and oversea’s companies. Then there would be no need for this pathetic attempt to recover a small amopunt of money. One big one would yield move tax than this.

The downstream logic of this is that if you happen to give a discount to a regular customer then they will want to tax that.

    The Commissioner is right here – the ‘rebate’ money is effectively a dividend to the consumer trust that owns (or part owns) the power company and dividends are paid from after-tax profits. Rebates such as ‘prompt payment discounts’ are a different matter since there is a sound commercial reason for them – prompt paying customers are cheaper to manage.

      But that’s not the dividend they’re talking about. This is a lines company’s rebate the power company passes on to its retail customers not its shareholders. That’s a marketing policy decision for customer retention and the rebate isn’t a dividend it’s a refund of an overcharge. If they are just paying it to shareholders the article didn’t say that but if they are then you’re right it is a dividend.

        The lines company does not give a direct rebate to the consumers, even though it may well process the rebate on behalf of the shareholding trust. The trust is under no obligation to pass the rebate to consumers, it could apply it for general civic purposes. For example ACET should be applying its dividends to the Auckland rail system and Auckland should not be receiving any taxpayers’ money until this is done.

Gareth Morgan’s new political party already has more than 750 paid members – with the entrepreneur saying he has been blown away by the response.

Morgan launched the Opportunities Party (Top) on Friday, saying problems like inequality and housing affordability could be solved but not by “establishment” politicians.

He plans to gauge public reaction to his campaign before registering the party next year.

Political parties need 500 financial members to register, and that mark was surpassed by Top within 24 hours of launching.

“I’ve been really overwhelmed by the response,” Morgan wrote in a blog post today.

  And after another disruptive Sunday I’ve only just finished watching Ireland break a 111 year old “curse” (though I never heard of such). What a fantastic result for them. They really got stuck into the AB’s from start to finish and deserved the win. It may sound strange for an AB backer to say this but I began to get a bit nervous for the Irish about midway through the 2nd half as the AB’s charged back to within 4 points. I could not believe that Ireland would blow it again after the 2013 heartbreaker. Surely they would not let it get away from them this time – and they did not.
  
  The AB’s played well at times (4 tries is nothing to sneeze at), but the Irish played better most of the time, on both attack and defence, but especially the latter.
  
  S0….. In the space of one week, the great city of Chi-Town has seen at the centre of the breaking of two great sporting droughts. Amazing.

  Which brings me back to the election and the question some are asking: do the Cubs and Irish victories presage a Trump triumph?
  
  Well of course the argument is that these are omens of victory against the odds.
  
  The trouble with that is that the Cubs had been the overwhelming favourites to win the WS since Spring Training! They remained so through 103 wins, and the post-season. And the reason was they had strengths in virtually every area. It was the Indians that more closely resemble Trump: obvious weaknesses papered over pretty well, but ultimately ripping apart. They too got close – but no cigar, and for precisely the reasons of comparative strengths and the depth of them; the Cubs had such, the Indians did not.
  
  Same with Hillary vs Trump.
  
  As for the Irish rugby team? They did what almost all winning teams do: covered their weaknesses, exploited their strengths and executed the game plan to perfection.
  
  Does anybody – aside from slobbering worshippers like deadrightkev and thicko, Simon – want to argue that Trump has done the same?

Early voting in the US elections is at c40M – around 1/3rd of voters. 56% of the votes are by women. And the turnout is highest by baby boomers (and those even older).

Clinton has a clear lead nationwide.

It ended on Saturday. The next opportunity to vote is on Tuesday.

The Republicans are behind in Florida, Nevada and North Carolina at this point. But this reflects the better Democrat organisation to get the early vote out. How many of the Gen X and millenials will vote?

The odds are currently on a Clinton win, but a surprising failure to win the Senate – with the most likely result R 51-Dem 49 (a majority to convict or obstruct), with the best possible result seeming to be 50-50 with VP Kaine providing the deciding vote (if all Dems are on board).

There are major CNN and NBC polls out tomorrow.
