I’m very surprised that given the number of commentators on Kiwiblog who read The Telegraph & Breitbart, no-one on General Debate yesterday mentioned the coverage both gave of Keys attempt to defend the importation of record-breaking numbers of immigrants despite him admitting the huge pressures it is putting on us as he claims Kiwis are lazy & on drugs:

My first impression upon reading this is just what sort of “leader” so grossly insults us on the world stage and promotes everyone else at our expense?

What is interesting though is reading the comments in Breitbart, which, as arguably the most influential right wing website in the world, and they are unanimous in damning Key. This is of course no surprise where unlike say Kiwiblog, readers of Breitbart have no particular affiliation to any NZ political party and are generally cognisant of the fact that all the West now lives in a one party state where in each country, two supposedly opposing teams – “Right” & “Left”, battle it out to win votes to carry out identikit policies.

For your reference, here are the 5 top rated comments:

While we have always suspected that our Western globalist political class hold the working class in contempt we have never had hard evidence of it. Until now. “Unbelievable the prime minister would continue to lie about the real problem ~ that his buddies in business want cheaper labor so they can make higher profits. It’s not like this can’t be seen even to people in faraway America! He complains about the quality of the people he’s got and imagines lower paid foreign labour will be an improvement”

It will be interesting to see the reaction of this post amongst the more tribal Kiwibloggers who can’t or don’t want see what the rest of us can. It’s unbelievable that people still talk about these migrants building a “knowledge economy” when our own eyes have tell us otherwise but at least Key did admit he wants to import huge amounts of low skilled workers.

It’s easy to bat away the MSM and attacks from the undefinable, malleable term ”The Left”, but when such criticism is levelled at you by unaligned persons from “”The Right”, the criticism is harder to brush under the carpet.

  Thanks for that EAD.
  I listened to about an hour of the debate in Parliament about the housing issue and did not hear one MP (of any party) mention the impact of mass immigration.It was all about ‘affordable housing’ which is a kneejerk bullshit term.

    It’s the same pattern the world over. Migrants are brought in to cut wages, which fall below the level at which the native population can live decently, and then lo and behold, these become “jobs Kiwis/Britons/Americans will not do” and need migrants to fill them. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.
    
    It’s also worth noting that the mask slipped just a little there when Key said that migrants “add quite a lot of value” to New Zealand in the form of their culture, and economic growth. That’s two falsehoods in one, because firstly I rather suspect that most of the people will like their culture the way it is, and secondly because it’s a good bet that he’s talking about total GDP growth, which always happens when extra people join an economy, as opposed to per capita growth which actually indicates a benefit for the resident population.
    
    I’m trying to think of any “right wing” rebuttals but along the lines of your post yesterday, the only 1 I can think of is “He’s a good Manager of the economy”
    
    The truth is he’s only a good manager if you think a ponzi scheme is good management.
    
    I mean is an economy really strong if it relies on the cost of shelter (housing) always going up, ever more debt being taken on, an ever increasing population, constantly lowered interest rates, never ending current account deficits, selling off assets and government subsiding the cost of labour through benefits with borrowed money?
    
    I think even the most staunchest National Party supporter knows the truth deep down.

    Why do so many people from all around the world want to come and live in New Zealand ? We are the envy of many. We walk above our weight as considered moderate in what we do – not radical.
    
    There is work for those who want to work: a way of live that is envied: and generally very tolerant and kind people.
    
    As any departing tourist what they think of the people of our Great Country.

      It is precisely what makes us unique and sets us apart from other countries, is the fact that we have embraced black AND that there is nothing negative about it. Ask anyone in Europe, US and UK who knows about NZ and they will associate the colour black with us. And they do it with awe and admiration.

        Would you like it if your whole house interior was painted black? If not, why not?
        
        And in the commercial world, how come corporate logos hardly ever use it?
        
        For example.
        
        It amazes me sometimes how people’s logical circuits get so tangled up that when a statement is made about something that contradicts an emotion they have, they ignore the logic and evidence and grasp at the emotion. Cognitive dissonance, you see it all the time, but even in a simple matter like this, you’d think people could divorce themselves from the emotion and consider the logic but no, evidently not.

        No, of course I don’t think that mm. Why would I. All black is never used in design. The only place in the world people insist on wearing all black is in the Wgtn CBD.
        
        Black is a base colour but is always used in conjunction with others. Red and black is in fact the most emotive colour combo which is why Tindall chose it for The Warehouse, for example.
        
        But all black is boring, depressing, dark, negative.

      Absolutely agree (except for the All Blacks bit… I offer no opinion on that).
      
      I came here from half way around the world 24 years ago. NZ is a fantastic place to live and I have never regretted that decision.
      
      I had the option of pretty much any country I wanted, but NZ is where I call home.
      
      People here bitching about how terrible things are for the poor are clueless. There is no real poverty in NZ. The worst of kiwi lives better than 90% of the world’s population.
      
      While most kiwis work hard, we do have an over-entitled element in the population who believe that they deserve a flash house + flash car +… just for existing. Nonsense If you don’t provide value then why should you get all the lollies?

  We really do have a high percentage of lazy ‘workers in waiting’, just ask any small employers. The answer doesn’t lie in flooding NZ with willing migrants, but by capping unemployment benefits at 6 months duration. A lot of young fit kiwis are having a laugh and know they can dodge any WINZ job seeking initiative by just being ‘unwilling’ at any employment they are given. Has Key got the backbone to bring us in line with most western nations and cap benefits?

    I suspect that a lot of “lazy kiwis” have a multi-generational (thus inherited) sense of grievance and entitlement. Why work when all will be provided for you? (And you can work on the black market for cash top-ups.)
    Where is the incentive (such as welfare limits) to change this mentality?

    Yep and many without the required reading/ comprehension skills.
    
    We are currently running an advert on TM.
    Basic inwards outwards measuring type skills required.
    You the sort of job a person with a bit of nounce, basic education skills, energy and wiliness to learn and so on.
    Not a lot of replies and most of them don’t even read the advert. We have have people with computer science degrees, a young lady who could barley read (not putting her down but not suitable for our job).
    Mostly from oversea’s with strange names, ( Not interest in people who will learn what we do then go and start their own business in opposition) even a Muslim ( and you know where that will go)
    A few who are being removed from their benefits after 20 Years.
    
    Meanwhile that ordinary working girl in the 16 – 20 category apparently doesn’t exist in our community anymore.
    I blame the education system.
    Why
    Because they keep the kids at school until they are 18 or 19 these days. Taxpayer funds the system to do this instead of sending them out to work.
    That’s the only reason we have a shortage of people.
    Education funding.
    Sooner its trimmed back by 30% the better for NZ.
    Of course Helen started all that.

    They were discussing lazy workers on RadioLive yesterday. A bloke rang up who epitomised the problem employers have. He believed it is his right not to take a job if it did not fit exactly with:
    
    -not paying enough
    -the type of work he was interested in
    -his environmental, ethical beliefs had to suit the job
    -he refused to work the weekends, believing everyone had the right to their weekend.
    
    He didn’t see it WASN’T HIS RIGHT to live off the taxpayer while he waited for his perfect job.
    
    Another entitled lefty with any excuse not to work.

  The lazy and on drugs issue is surely less tied to the immigrants than it is to the fruit-picker level guest workers.
  
  We do have a huge problem. For many people the dole is such a good deal there is no point in working, so they never try working and don’t develop work ethics etc.
  
  So what would happen if you banned the guest workers and forced the bludgers to go pick fruit? Dole bludgers now feel so entitled I would expect you’d get a whole lot of resentment and would find they slack off all the time and would sabotage the fruit. The Chinese wouldn’t be complaining about fungal spores in the kiwifruit, they’d be complaining about turds and rotten fish put into the trays to sabotage the fruit.

    Having worked in a fruit packhouse I have seen the destruction deliberately created so that those sent by Winz to a job get sacked as they have and can cause enormous financial destruction.
    To shut down a fast fruit line is easy to achieve.
    
    As a one time orchardist I could in no way employ somebody, often stoned, who could destroy my crop by sheer incompetence. They only turn up for a few hours to get sent back to Winz for the dole.At least the immigrant workers do not go out of their way to be destructive. They do not smoke pot, get drunk and turn up on time. In the BOP they are very welcome and many come back year after year as friends.

    NZ is not a labor camp, so you can’t force people to work if they don’t want to (they will simply sabotage the workplace otherwise).
    The tricky part is creating an environment in which people are motivated to work and/or would feel a sense of shame in not being a contributing member of society.
    The keys goals for any worker (eventual home ownership, a rewarding job, the ability to support a family on a single wage, all those “good old days” icons) must be attainable. Otherwise, people simply tune out.
    I don’t see how importing low-wage-willing workers while simultaneously providing a safety net (that too many people use as a hammock) is sustainable in the long run. What happens when the immigrants themselves grow old?

      Also cannot force employers to take on people they do not think are suitable, for whatever reason. It is all too often forgotten that some employees are very high maintenance, usually pretty obvious from the outset. So why would an employer hire them?
      
      I would like to see at least some of the 70,000 odd NEETs become micromanaged in the same way as the Young Parents. Strict responsibilities, clear rewards and sanctions, very little benefit money to spend as they like. Suspect quite a few would be off the benefit fairly quickly.
      
      Yes it would be expensive. But under the government’s investment approach would probably save money in the medium term if not sooner.

  Your link to Breibart, and the link from Breibart to Radio NZ, show that he was actually speaking about fruit-picking in particular and he is quoted as saying: “Go and ask the employers, and they will say some of these people won’t pass a drug test, some of these people won’t turn up for work, some of these people will claim they have health issues later on.”
  
  Radio NZ also quoted a grower, a director at Horticulture New Zealand and a former president of the Hawker’s Bay Fruit growers’ Association as saying that he agreed with everything Mr Key said.

      Isn’t claiming NZ’ers won’t turn up for work implying they are “lazy”? Isn’t saying they won’t pass a drugs test the same as saying they’re on drugs.
      
      W.r.t. to Horticulture NZ – of course they’re going to argue to reduce the cost of Labour inputs. To hell with their fellow citizens it’s all about lowering everyone to the lowest common global denominatior.

  Actually EAD as one of the liberals you rile against I have pointed up repeatedly that our government is importing low wage labor from the third world and how it effects on the wages and willingness for our own to work in many industry’s.
  The standard recently had a post on it and most commentators there had the same opinion as me .
  A job such as fruit picking or dairy hand is dirty ,hard and boring.
  They has little social contact when you are on a dairy farm you talk to cows or your self if you are between rows picking fruit its the trees or your self.
  Both necessitate being in rural areas that limit social life .
  Many young people would find it better to pack supermarket shelves or work at McDonald’s in town rather than such jobs on the minimum wage .
  We will not pay more to get employees in these jobs like the market dictates we instead import third world labour to skew our market even more against the working class.
  
  Another issue is drugs
  The claim that drug taking people can not work is bogus .
  I can grantee most of you live in a house that pot smoking trades worked on and many of your daily contacts will have the odd puff no matter what you do for your living .
  Alcohol has just as much effect on work performance as cannabis does. In the usa the states that have legalized have found a drop in work absenteeism . Monday morningitis is often the result of a hangover from guzzling piss on Saturday night. When I was responsible for a work force in industry it was often those who drank that had the worst attendance due to the effects of alcohol. Yet we see our leader blaming drugs and ignoring his own drug of choice is the one most likely to lead to poor performance and attendance.
  
  No one should operate machinery or drive when affected by drugs.
  Most testing for cannabis is not on a persons impairment but on historic use that has no measurable effect .
  Would it be acceptable for your boss to sack you for drinking any alcohol in the last month? That is the way cannabis use is treated in industry and on our roads. Drug testing should be about impairment on the job not your social life out of work.
  What you do in your own time is none of the bosses business as long as it is not effected your work .

    It’s not the “picking fruit” that’s the hard part; it’s likely the deprivation that goes with a typical isolated rural job.
    The fruit growers need to pay more or innovate. Importing workers depresses the labor market (and I am surprised that the unions don’t fight it).
    There’s no way I would ever raise a family in a rural town. As soon as the kids leave high school, they will leave to find a job and will never come back. This same pattern has been ongoing in Japan since the 1950s.

      What is isolated about Nelson Hawkes Bay or TE Puke??
      Spare me.With respect Odakyu most of the fruitgrowers I know who are owner operaters, pay above minimum wage and more to experienced pickers.
      It is possible to make good money on contract as well.
      It is the shift to Nationals corporate model that has seen wages paid by them kept at the minimum and pickers are just numbers.Real growers are very innovative.
      Don’t worry all the good growers are being killed off by rules ,regulation and compliance so soon there will only be corporates as in dairy.

        Nelson, Hawkes Bay or Te Puke would be the very best places to work.
        Many bludgers (being human after all) have a well-developed social network that they are loath to discard by moving out of their neighborhood.
        
        I blame limitless welfare for creating this social mess in the first place, but it will take generations to unwind. Fortunately, the recipients tend to have very short inter-generational periods of approx. 16 years…

    Well, golly gosh! What party is the self-sufficient, employed Kiwi to replace National with? Labour? The Greens?
    
    Act (or some form of conservative party) would seem to be the alternative to National for the working man, but less than 2% of voters think this way. This country needs a party that is dedicated to the ideals that the National Party once claimed to pursue.

Listened to the Auckland Mayor debate on morning report yesterday and was quite struck by how good the contenders are and how awful Goff is. basically Goff just blamed the government, called on the government to do this and that and all the other candidates humiliated him by pointing out Auckland council can manage its own way if managed properly. They also pointed out to Goff and Espinor that for example the schooling system is a central not a local government issue and of little relevance. Goff never answered a question with a definitive answer and just waffled and droned and then when it was clear how badly he lagged evenn Palino he got all shouty.
Really good insight and probably not the outcome RNZ and Espinor wanted. I dont live there but I hope someone other than Goff (Len Brown clone) gets elected.

Will Andrew Little apologise to Earl and Lani Hagaman for the allegations he made against them? If not, how much will they take him for, now that the Auditor-General has found they and their company did nothing wrong and a normal procurement process was followed?

The real story is not the media hyped , extremist Black Lives Matter, the real story is blacks killing blacks. Gun control? Chicago has some of the tightest , what good does that do when criminals won’t follow the rules. How thick are the people who call for gun control? Do they really think murderers follow the rules?

        What I like about this debate is that in order to push gun control you have to argue about escalating murders and violent crime committed with guns – but since the place in question is Chicago that might point fingers back at the never-ending Democrat control of the city.
        
        And we can’t have that.
        
        Suffice to say that the murder rate is nowhere near as bad as it was when I moved there amidst the crack cocaine turf wars.
        
        But it’s also entirely accurate to say that things have been going from bad to worse in the City of Big Shoulders since the whole Ferguson thing. But it’s all in the same areas as ever, which means the bulk of the city’s population – especially it’s white population – hardly see any difference.
        
        Oh – and for those for whom causality is a foreign concept – note that the claim about Chicago being surrounded by places with less gun control, has been just as true for the last twenty years while murders and gun crime in Chicago declined. That has not changed: something else did – and recently.

  A couple of articles about the recent upsurge in murder and violent crime in Chicago.
  
  The first is from John Kass, one of my long-time favourites from the Chicago Tribune, who is unfortunately behind a paywall more often than not. Kass has been on the beat in Chi-town forever and knows the people and the culture well. Local lefties loved him when he regularly stuck it to GW Bush – but they’ve learned to despise him as he’s made it clear in the last eight years just how little time he has for Obama’s bullshit in various issues.
  
  In short, he’s one of the last of the true journalists, which makes what he has to say about this crime wave, important.:
  
  With at least 78 killed so far, August is the deadliest month in nearly 20 years, according to a Tribune analysis. It’s all but certain that the city’s homicide total will push beyond the 491 dead of last year.
  …
  Twenty-five years ago, August 1991 was also an exceptionally bloody month in Chicago, with 122 homicides, the most in the city’s modern history, according to police figures.
  
  Mayor Richard M. Daley was in panic because he knew it would get worse. And it did. In 1992, the city hit 943 homicides, after 928 the year before.
  
  The difference is stark – but some reasons remain the same.
  
  … O’Connor, a detective for 30 years who also worked with federal agencies, was assigned to write a white paper analyzing the murders for the mayor.
  …
  “The shooter was typically a male black between the ages of 17 and 23,” O’Connor said. “And the victim was typically a male black between the ages of 17 and 23. So what’s changed since the ’90s? Not much, the same social pathology, and the police are expected to clean it up.”
  
  And Kass notes the political connections – both the obvious…
  
  Some call it “gun violence,” a definition greatly appreciated by Democratic politicians like those at City Hall. They can point to guns and take that voter anger over homicide numbers and channel it into a safe space.
  
  But there are plenty of guns in the suburbs, and suburbanites aren’t slaughtering each other.
  
  … and the not obvious…
  
  It’s the gang wars.
  
  Politicians know that the gangs are reason for the deaths. Calling it “gun violence” is much safer, especially in wards where gangs often provide political muscle.
  
  “Have you ever heard a Chicago alderman call out a street gang by name?” O’Connor asked. “No? Me neither.”
  
  The response this time is different – and useless. I watched a painful interview on PBS with a community organiser (no doubt walking in the footsteps of The Halo) and Laurie Lightfoot, newly appointed head of some newly created Police Accountability Board. Even the CO was getting angry as he talked of people gunned down in his West-side street and not getting the community policing they need – while he was confronted by a woman who vomited up huge amounts of fucking word salad. You could see why she got the job from the Mayor: a sop to Black Lives Matter.
  
  In the meantime the CPD is smaller than it was twenty years ago and the specialist anti-gang units have been completely disbanded. Between that and the Laquan McDonald shooting fallout the result is:
  
  Police were investigating reports of a shooting in bloody Englewood when about 10 young men confronted them, harassed them, mocked them on the street, hurling epithets, angry, defiant.
  
  “Every cop saw that video,” O’Connor said. “One big difference is that now, on the street, there is no fear. Even in the ’90s, with all the killing, the gangs feared the police. When we’d show up, they’d run. But now? Now they don’t run. Now, there is no fear.”
  
  For all the screams about “endemic racism” in the CPD the end-result is that the cops have backed off active policing (as they have in many US cities) – and those areas are now owned by the gangs.

  If black lives didn’t matter, the officers wouldn’t have spent at least an hour in the middle of the night gathering evidence and attempting to interview witnesses while enduring verbal abuse.
  
  Black lives do matter.
  
  Sad. Pathetic. He’s trying to reason with BLM, imagining that they really mean it when they say they care about the lives of Blacks.
  
  They don’t. They’re just another far-left activist group using “racism” as a club to get what they really want – political power. In Chicago that means inside the local Democrat organisation, so naturally Democrats who think of themselves as left-wingers and not racists, find themselves in the firing line of being accused of racism, which is why Zorn comes across as so painfully earnest in reporting on this.
  
  And while Zorn sees the cops investigating a crime scene he does not see the unseen – which is that the cops are not really trying to prevent such things any longer. They’ve backed off, as described months ago by this Los Angeles-based cop who writes for PJMedia, “Jack Dunphy”:
  
  … in Chicago, as in many other cities, officers are coming to the conclusion that the risks of these violent contacts are prohibitive and that a prudent regard for one’s livelihood demands a less zealous approach to combatting crime.
  
  No, the cops aren’t afraid of getting shot or stabbed or otherwise injured in an altercation, they’re afraid of becoming the next YouTube sensation when an arrest goes wrong and fails to unfold in a manner approved by cowardly department brass, unprincipled politicians, and ignorant “community leaders,” all of whom exhort the cops to go out in the streets and stop the madness, but to do so without hurting anyone.
  
  To anybody who has been following this saga from the days of Fergusson, the recent increase in murders and violent crime in places like Chicago, Baltimore and other cities, comes as no surprise. In fact you could guarantee it.
  
  And it’s going to get worse before it gets better, if the Lori Lightfoot’s of the world are any indication.

When unemployment has fallen to nearly to 5% we are getting down to the bottom of the barrel to the lazy, the incompetent, the criminal, the malingerers, the druggies – the list is a sorry one and not the pool of talent employers would willingly use.
There will be exceptions of course but by and large many of them will be unemployable.

    The benefit is supposed to be a “safety net” and that was how it was described when I first came to NZ 24 years ago. The purpose was to protect you from the worst impact of unemployment. Falling into a safety net is not pain free – it still stings and maybe bruises – but at least you don’t break any bones. You are supposed to then get out of the net…
    
    Unfortunately the safety net is too comfortable. It has become a hammock.

1000 graduates, 150 get teaching jobs. What do the rest of them go on to do? the dole, mcdonalds? DPB?

Is this why the teachers unions are anti change?
They know that with this great pool of potential replacements their present union members, who are shit teachers, are afraid of loosing their cushy jobs for life. Regardless of their performance in the classrooms.

Thus mess was done by McCahon, a guy with almost no discernable artistic ability – even when he was trying to paint actual pictures with shapes and form and things.

If you need more humor in your life you need go no further than the news pages… I’m still laughing after reading about this. Thank you to the ‘art’ world for lightening my mood with this delicious madness.

  The same effect can be seen with the reaction if we mention Mary in a condom. It is not art they say fervently. 😆 This makes it art by definition as a tatty statue in a condom has stuck in their brain for decades .

Im a big sports fan, I love to see the top athletes in the world compete, I love to watch the best of the best. This is why I cannot as a rule watch female sport (save for Netball as the best players in the world are female) or the mind numbingly boring Paralympics.
Im not against the games as such but I am against funding them and the expectation that I (as a Kiwi) should be in awe of a fellow Kiwi who won one of the 320 Gold medals on offer for the 100 backstroke.

He might be good at rugby (love to see how good if we had neutral refs) and attacking the eyes of opposing players but that is about it. He has gone public as he is worried about the safety of his family who live in the area.

There have been reports of a large black cat in the area since 2003.

I am always amazed by how much the mainstream media twist things. Many of the MSM lambasted Trump for what they called a “red meat” speech on immigration. But actually Trump laid out a coherent 10 point plan on what he would do to fix the immigration problems. Here they are and I would be interested if people can find anything wrong with them?

1 Build a wall along the southern border.

2 End Catch-And-Release.

3 Zero tolerance for criminal aliens.

4 Block funding for sanctuary cities.

5 Cancel unconstitutional executive orders and enforce all immigration laws.

6 Suspend issuing visas to people from any country where adequate screening cannot occur.

7 Ensure other countries take their people back when we order them deported.

8 Complete the biometric entry-exit visa tracking system.

9 Turn off the jobs and benefits magnet.

10 Reform legal immigration to serve the best interests of America and its workers.

  Want to go a second round after your last post on GD yesterday as it raised a number of issues?:
  
  No Kimbo, of course there will be some figurative language. We use the word “sunrise” when scientifically speaking the sun doesn’t actually rise. So no problem with that. But that doesn’t preclude the genesis account being 6 days, literal days nor the rest of the account being accurate.
  Why shouldn’t God give us a reliable account of what occurred. If he didn’t which is what you imply then genesis is just an historical artifact that may have meant something to ancient Hebrews but is irrelevant now.
  
  Regarding the use of the word “vault” I see it is in the latest version of the NIV, but not in the 1984 version which I use. The nrsv does use the word dome, the King James and other versions use the word firmament or expanse.
  So depends what version of the bible you use. I haven’t seen anything lately from a creationist perspective on the treatment of dome. If I do I’ll come back to you.

  Why does it matter “what version of the Bible you use…when, in line with the grammatico-historical exegesis advocated by Reformers such as Luther and Calvin, biblical scholars rely on the original Hebrew to determine what the primeval narrative (Genesis chapter 1 to 11) meant to the original recipients? The Hebrew word raqiya translated alternatively by various versions of the Bible into English as “vault/dome/firmament/expanse” refers to something solid hammered out into shape on an anvil.
  
  Also, if some things in the Genesis accounts are supposedly literal (e.g., the “days” of creation), and – as you have now admitted – some are supposedly figurative (a solid dome sky, “windows of heaven”)…then who decides and how,
  
  …and how can we check they are making those decisions on the basis of Scriptural authority, rather than imposing their own presuppositions and/or interpretive system?
  
  Plus, if the Bible is “scientifically accurate”, but, when it suits, or at least because of that presupposition that automatically means any seemingly non-scientific statement is “figurative”, doesn’t that render the claim…meaningless?

    Fair question stephieboy – I suspect Trump will get Mexico to pay for it based on new trade deals and new tariffs and other future negotiations he is hoping to have with the president of Mexico if and when he is elected.
    But no I don’t expect there will be a plane laden with cash that will fly from Mexico City to Washington to pay for the wall. That’s already been done by the Obama administration in their payment of ransom money to Iran and I think we can all agree that was a bad look.

      Renegotiating trade deals will not pay for a wall .
      He could try adding a tax on goods Mexico imports from the states. All that would do encourage the routing of freight though neighboring country’s.

Looking through a dictionary many years ago I stumbled on the -aster suffix. Listed as archaic it denotes someone who is bad at doing something and most dictionaries list two examples: poetaster and criticaster.

A criticaster is someone who is a bad critic. Presumable this is meant in the sense of theatrical criticism but there doesn’t seem to be any reason why you couldn’t use it more generally (e.g. the usual critics and criticasters of american foreign policy etc).

A poetaster is a bad poet. I actually saw someone use this word a couple of years ago, so its clearly not that archaic. Famous examples include the Vogons, William Mcgonagall, and now, apparently, “Creative Colin”.

The man is delighted.

Last year, a four-year-old girl was killed by a car bomb outside Gothenburg, another apparent victim of gang violence.

Integrating adults into Swedish society has been tricky enough, but a much more difficult problem is how to deal with all the unaccompanied children. During the Iraq war, about 400 children arrived without their parents each year — and all of them needed a place to live, social support and proper schooling. In 2014, when the number of children arriving annually hit 7,000, there were serious questions about how Sweden would cope. Last year, just over 35,000 unaccompanied children registered with the authorities.

The children are every age and arrive from all kinds of countries. Afghans and Somalis are currently the two biggest groups. Then come Syrians, Ethiopians, Iraqis, Moroccans and Eritreans.

I have analysed its post and determined they are generated by an unsophisticated piece of computer code, probably written by a kid who failed at formal computer programming.

You will note that its posts are very repetitive and unoriginal. The program scans google and cut and pastes.

If you post something that requires actual rational thought, it resorts to its default of personal abuse.

DPF just needs to run some virus software and it should clean it up.

Very funny. Anne Coulter was on, no , I have no idea why either but heck, did she get sooooo much shit.
Have to say, I’m not a follower but the jokes were just vicious. And she just sat there like a possum in headlights.
But she did give it back, big time- to a deathly quiet theatre.
It was strange to watch.
The others were hilarious. Jimmy Carr is very good and Rob Lowe was surprisingly self deprecating as he took it all well.
Worth seeing.

God I need a drink. I have just read an article by TRP over on the standard. It’s about Tew and the Chiefs and I have to agree with it.

Richard Nixon would have been proud of the cover up.

As I have previously noted this will come back and bite Tews arse and on the way through it might just nibble Hansen’s who is happy it’s all over. He had two of his all blacks there and they have ducked for cover. This reminds me of a certain blonde in a South African hotel room with several ABs. One called Randal took the fall so a more prominent one who threatened legal action got away.
