  A couple of weeks ago the wife basher, on his Sunday sports show on radio live, spent a considerable amount of time on the Chiefs/Scarlette issue. Running a poll calling for the banning of mad Monday’s (not sure how that law would be written).

The ‘New Zealand Farmer’ reports that Landcorp is going to sell nine sheep and beef farms.
Iwi will be offered first right of refusal as was suspected by several commentors here.
It is obvious from this that any option of selling off farms to young kiwi farmers will not happen.
Landcorp is talking to Ngai tahu and the office of treaty settlements.

  Ngai Tahu has first and second rights of purchase to the South Island Crown assets (at the tribe settlement date) when they come on the market – for ever. This was negotiated for the tribe by Finlayson, now Treaty Minister, in the days when he was the tribe’s advocate.

    It becomes obvious on RNZ when our cities are now no longer what we have called them for over 150 years but have all become some created Maori name.
    We will shortly no longer have a North Island and a South Island but those that Kupe’s canoists called them.
    I am getting well into my twilight years and will soon no longer care about the Maorification of our country. Sad, but my children and grandchildren do not care – they have a comfortable life with few cares.

    My understanding is that, for the South Island farms at least, Ngai Tahu must get first chance to make an offer.
    
    If someone offers a higher price, then Ngai Tahu get the chance to buy at that price.
    
    However, expect some public opposition if the tribe cannot match an offer from a Chinese buyer.

Well knock me down with a feather! It seems that the suspect in the latest bombing in New York has been arrested and quelle surprise he turns out to be born in Afghanistan. It does make me wonder about the wisdom of Western countries taking in refugees from these Muslim countries when proportionally they seem to commit so many terrorist acts?
However I am sure that stephieboy will be along shortly and clear this matter up so that we can put our minds at rest

The reason for the failures in the latest NZQA maths exam is very plain to see. If the child did not learn its because the teachers did not teach. The child who said in the “failing newspaper” I passed all the test exams the teachers gave us explains it plain and clear. Our Lazy teachers are just teaching the pupils to pass exams rather than teaching them a subject. My son recently sat NZQA and from the begining of the year the emphisis was on passing the exam rather than learning the subject. The teacher just produced notes that she had been using for years saying if you learn these facts you will pass because they always ask these questions.

  A couple of points:
  
  Teachers have always taught pupils to pass exams.
  
  This exam was set at a higher level than what was being taught in class.
  
  After saying all that, I hoping my son will do OK. My advise to him was to factorise and expand everything he could. And just attempt all the word problems, even if he couldn’t make sense of them, he might accidentally get the equation right and then get marks for it. Oh, and do something from each section as the most you can get for a section is two Excellence marks, which makes any lesser marks not count in that section.

    Rightly or wrongly, the US is effectively at war with these nations.
    
    When you’re at war, you put those likely to sympathise into internment camps or at least restrict their activities.
    
    Well that’s what Wilson (Democratic Party) did during WW1 and FDR (Democratic Party) did during WW2.

Both mentioned are Lie-bour Party associates, and are used to spending other peoples’ money as having socialism is in their DNA,not a good feeling for Wellingtons rate payers,who seem to pay the highest rates in the land. The other person worth talking about, is the happy positive woman called Jo Coughlan, who would make a great Mayor for Wellington ,as well as putting life into our Capital Citys slogan, which has gone limp under the useless Green/ Liebour Party no hopers who have stagnated Wellington in the last six years. . “Absolutely Positively Wellington” will be once more resurrected by “GOJO” Coughlan ,who will give Wellington back its “MOJO”.

Rather, she simply wishes that she could go back in time and have longer to prepare her country for the changes that were to occur:

She voiced regret over mistakes that contributed to last summer’s migrant crisis in Germany. More than a million migrants reached Germany – a record.

“If I could, I would turn back time for many, many years, to prepare better,” she told reporters.

That’s not true regret – it’s saying that what she did was right all along, but she didn’t have as much time as she would have liked to make adequate preparations.

Merkel’s political future is bleak. The sooner she is banished from leadership of the CDU Party, the sooner Germany can begin to repair the damage caused by her actions. As for other European countries that have suffered the flow-on consequences of her policies, they will just have to wear the consequences of her actions and look after themselves as best they can.

She Who Must Not Be Named is there of course, though it seems so dull compared to her Kiwiblog persona. Aside from that my favourites so far:

  Just to put that into context, there were also large numbers of Germans who settled in the industrialised mid-West (Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin) in the 2nd half of the 19th Century/early 20th Century, and of course as they were the foundation of the beer brewing industry at the height of the temperance movement/Prohibition. Also when the USA joined the Great War…they naturally became the “enemy within”.

    What a transition! “The most physically injurious incident,” indeed. If you didn’t know better, you would have, at this point, the impression that someone had gone on an anti-Muslim rampage, part of the “cloud of anti-Muslim sentiment.”
    
    Un-fucking-believable. The pricks at that newspaper actually tried that line on before pulling the story and re-writing it. I guess even in leftist Minnesota that argument was a little too tough to swallow for the locals.

        I agree they are not directly comparable – but then no two events or political eras ever are! Remember that the German (and Irish) immigrant populations of the US were among the most implacable opponents to the US entry into the Great War. Also, there seems to have been some civilian involvement in the Kaiser’s spy network – although I seem to remember reading the two main German embassy organisers, von Papen (who later helped get Hitler into power and was tried at Nuremberg) and Zimmermann (of the ill-fated telegram fame) were particularly incompetent.
        
        And again, while also not an exact comparison, the anarchist terror of the general progressive era (Leon Czolgosz assassinating President McKinley, Sacco and Vanzetti) was seen as a primarily un-American immigrant problem…and in that way it is analogous with the current wave of jihadist-sympathetic terrorism, even when it takes an opportunistic “lone-wolf” form.

        Actually, that is what the US should have done – refused to get involved in the Middle East.
        Its actions have destabilised the region in a manner inimical with its interests and counter to its own values.
        In particular, its habit of preferring cosy relationships with authoritarian regimes has backfired when those regimes change. In addition, the US seems incapable of dealing with events as they are, and convinced that perhaps one more intervention and invasion would get the grateful locals to get onside with the programme.
        Griff is right – thousands of US deaths, millions of local deaths, and the expenditure of trillions of dollars have not made America more secure, or the region safer.

Vichy France was very actively pro Nazi but the post war narrative (as they say) had to paint a picture not of collaboration but of heroic resistance. They resisted the Australians in Syria and a majority of Vichy troops there refused the option to join the Allies. Their navy was a massive threat to us when we stood alone. This was the situation in 2014 so it would be interesting to see if this has changed much in 2 years.
Considering records are tumbling on Kiwiblog my gut feeling would be a no on that one.

      I have no idea about that. I could suggest a methodology. I’m aware that some departments try to cost their advice, and I think the Treasury did some benchmarking of that.
      The trouble with that is it probably ignores bigger questions, like “why the fuck are we doing this anyway”, which are more likely to be exposed in a commercial setting.

    It doesn’t really matter if your most enthusiastic base supporters are energised. Many people have made the point that Trump has a woefully deficient campaign in terms of advertising, ground presence and communication to likely voters.

      I think that might have been true two months ago but the RNC are helping on the ground- still not as vast as Clintons though, but Preibus laid the groundwork awhile ago.Trumps fundraising is now significant and the Ads are being done and the communication has risen
      I see Hillary is getting criticised for failing to reach Hispanics, Blacks and Millienials and Trump is improving in each of those areas.

        There is a school of thought that his campaign was only ever intended to boost his negotiating power for a new TV deal, so he never really put any thought into what it would actually take to win the presidency.
        It’s also possible that he isn’t all that interested in the job anyway. After all, candidates to be his running mate were told at the auditions the VP would be in charge of ‘all foreign and domestic policy’.

Being Huntly I expected an unwarranted car with no rego driven by a driver with no licence. But I was shown to be 100% wrong.

Interesting to note that NZ First has, for the last year or so, an Electorate Office based in Masterton.
Now, bare in mind, these office set-ups don’t come cheap and are paid for by the taxpayer. Lease agreements, IT and phone set-ups, furniture, staff and signage promoting NZ First and the local List MP.
Where am I going with this you may well ask!
Well it turns out that NZ First has just moved it’s office to Carterton at, no doubt, great expense to you and me.
This is appalling and a waste of taxpayers money.
What is wrong with an office in Masterton?
List MP’s and indeed Electorate MP’s should not be allowed to move offices, once established, in a 3 year term.
It beggars belief that Parliamentary Services would approve this move.

The latest from the Gallup Poll is that only 32% of Amerians trust the print and TV media to tell the truth.

The conclusion is that old people who are Democrats are the only remaining group that barely trusts the media. This mistaken trust is due to their enculturation. For older Democrats belief in government takes the place of Republican belief in evangelical Christianity. Older Democrats are firm believers that it was government under the leadership of President Franklin D. Roosevelt that saved America from the Great Depression. As the print and TV media in the 21st century are firmly aligned with the government, the trust in government spills over into trust of the media that is serving the government. As the generation of Democrats enculturated with this mythology die off, Democratic trust rates will plummet toward Republican levels…

  I think you misunderstood this story, Fletch. The court ruled that this terrible law should stand because innocent parents could defend any charges. The dissenting judges (in a 3-2 decision) pointed out that this breached constitutional guarantees of due process, to no avail.
  It is an example of counter-productive law making, that in this case allows police to lay charges indiscriminately, often as a tool to extort guilty please on other charges: “admit to assault/robbery/whatever or we’ll charge you with sexual abuse as well and, by the way, you will have to prove your innocence.”

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The majority of Pennsylvania’s dioceses are being subjected to a sweeping state grand jury investigation into both clerical sex abuse and the subsequent cover-ups allegedly perpetrated by Pennsylvania Church hierarchy.

Subpoenas from the state attorney general were issued late last week to the dioceses of Erie, Allentown, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Greensburg and Scranton demanding all six dioceses hand over any documentation regarding sexual abuse committed by Pennsylvania clergy as part of a broad investigation into the matter. The archdiocese of Philadelphia was excluded from the probe, having already been the subject of three grand jury reports since 2003, which unearthed unreported claims of abuse at the hands of hundreds of priests. The remaining diocese, Altoona-Johnstown, is currently under investigation and has been since the release of an individual grand jury report in March.

A Vatican administrator has urged Rome to remove the head of the Catholic Church in Guam over child sex allegations, warning the scandal could bankrupt the church in the deeply religious Pacific territory.

Archbishop Savio Hon Tai-Fai was sent to Guam three months ago to investigate the accusations against Archbishop Anthony Apuron, who denies any wrongdoing.

In a statement read out at church services across the island on Sunday, Hon said he had asked the Holy See to dismiss Apuron after the cleric refused to stand down voluntarily.

“I can assure you that the gravely serious allegations against Archbishop Apuron will continue to be dealt with… a canonical trial,” the statement said.

“His Holiness, Pope Francis, is monitoring the proceedings,” he added.

The allegations date back to the 1970s, with at least four former alter boys saying they were molested by Apuron, then a parish priest.

Apuron, who has headed the Agana archdiocese since 1986, has not been charged with any crime.

Hon’s statement did not directly address the veracity of the allegations, instead expressing sorrow over the issue of clerical child abuse.

  The troublesome truth, though, is that the Roman Catholic Church is an entrenched criminal conspiracy to enable, abet and hide sexual crimes on a massive scale.
  The usual excuse, that priests are no worse or no more prevalent than other brands of kiddy fiddlers, would be laughable if it were not so tragic.

With the presidential elections nearly upon us it would be timely to clear up any misconceptions that may be held about Hillary’s husband.

Some years ago President Clinton was hosting a state dinner when at the last minute his regular cook fell ill and they had to get a replacement on short notice. The fellow arrived and turned out to be a very grubby-looking man named Jon.

The President voiced his concerns to his Chief of Staff but was told that this was the best they could do on such short notice.

Just before the meal, the President noticed the cook sticking his finger in the soup to taste it and again complained to the Chief Of Staff, but he was told that this man was supposed to be a very good chef. The meal went okay, but the President was sure that the soup tasted a bit funny.

By the time dessert came, he was starting to have stomach cramps and nausea. It was getting worse and worse until finally the President had to
excuse himself from the dinner to look for the bathroom. Passing through the kitchen he caught sight of the cook, Jon, scratching his arse which made him feel even worse.

By now, the President was desperately ill with violent cramps and was so disorientated that he couldn’t remember which door led to the bathroom. He tried every door in the hallway and was on the verge of passing out from the pain when he finally found a door that opened.

As he unzipped his trousers and ran in, he realised to his horror that he had
stumbled into Monica Lewinsky’s office with his trousers around his knees. The President fell to the floor in pain and as he was just about to pass out Monica bent over him to listen for a heartbeat and heard the President whisper in a barely audible voice “Sack my cook”.

And, that is how the whole misunderstanding occurred.

pak n save moments – woman struggles for a few seconds to get a carton out of a box on shelf. What’s that, a helicopter? Nope – very loud in need of attention rattly chiller unit. What’s that foul smell – is it . . . someone covered in cigarette puke ? Shopper DJ not working two weeks now.
