  Nigel Farage told Trump supporters a few weeks ago that the illuminati will call them awful names, because they have no valid arguments to put to them and they know that Trump supporters are right. The chance of the presidential election going the same way as the Brexit vote, that is, a win for the common man; it is a chance that is increasing day by day.

      I’m worried about cheating. A few States now have tried to bring in voter I.D laws, and even voting that requires you are a resident of the U.S, only to have courts shut that down. Why would they do that, if not to gain illegal votes?

        Well tested Nostalgia, but they still won by more than 30 points. The bench players really stepped up last night. Ardie Savea now has a chance to stake a claim for the #7 jersey with Cane likely to be out for up to six weeks, i.e. until the end of season tour.
        
        Apart from Perenara, the best thing about last night was seeing Julian Savea back to his free-running Beast of Cardiff best. Steve Hansen, Ian Foster and Wayne Smith have clearly brought out the best in him for the second season in a row, as they did with Ma’a Nonu who played his best rugby under Hansen.
        
        The depth we have is phenomenal, and it showed last night.

  Winston Peters IS lazy Chuck. He is the consummate Opposition politician, ranting and raving about whatever the government of the day is doing.
  
  But look at his record in government. He’s been a Minister three times, and has still not lasted a full three -year term before the PM of the day has had to intervene. That’s because he is an individualist, not a team player. Good Ministers have to park their egos for the most part, and make collective decisions which they all stand (or fall) by. That’s not Peters’ modus operandi.
  
  He’d far rather do the Grey Power circuit, repeating what is essentialy the same anti-immigrant speech Michale Laws wrote for him in 1996. He loves being front and centre, and cannot handle being just a player in the team; he has to be captain or nothing.
  
  And he is an absolute autocrat when it comes to NZ First. Look at the way he summarily dismissed Brendon Horan from the NZF caucus on the basis of tittletale and gossip, and without even giving Horan the chance to put his side of the story. He is also fundamentally dishonest, and is the only member of the current Parliament to have been censured by his peers for deliberately misleading them.
  
  Time has not been kind to Peters; too many late nights, too many fags, and too much time spent with Johnnie, Jack and Jim as his companions. I would not be at all surprised if he pulls the pin on his career before the next election, when he will be 72.

The list now comprises;
Eastwoodhill Arboretum, near Gisborne.
Tawhiti Museum, near Hawera.
The gorgeous Victorian architecture of Oamaru.
Zealandia, near Karori.

So if Andrew Little has to send out emails to people he thinks are Labour supporters or members begging for funds to help change the government so he can give the poor and welfare dependents housing clothing and food so they do not have to sleep in their cars how does he expect to be able to run the treasury.How can you trust a man that can not even keep his Party with enough money to fight elections and when he has to try and fiddle his Parliamentry funds to try and keep a tax cheat paid.   Russia is no longer communist. China is still a Communist state – one party, with that party controlling the legislature, the armed forces, the government, and the state owning all the land, the banking system, and controlling the major industry – steel.

  America has had naming control, because that was where the internet originated in 1969, with the U.S. Defence Department’s Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET).
  
  It was reported as early as January that America on 30 September would separate domain name control from the US Department of Commerce.
  
  ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) will instead be governed by a “multi-stakeholder” model, including businesses, individual users and members of foreign governments.
  
  It will be interesting to see whether totalitarian States and the scores of country with no democratic ideology can emerge as an anti-democratic influence in ICANN.

I picked up a copy of yesterday’s Horrid this morning in a coffee bar and read an article by the new Mother of the Nation Marvellous Marvelly.
He views on Education and the bringing up of children of course favours the Teacher Unions.
Being an expert I would expect to see her get a Union Labour list place next year.
Looks like an ignorant pro Union rant on something about which she has no experience or knowledge – (unless she has hidden children) but normal for a wealthy chardonnay socialist.

Leaving aside the idiocy of the connection with our current military involvement in Iraq, I’m struggling to see what is so “shock, horror” about the account of New Zealand soldiers committing atrocities and war crimes during the Great War. I seem to recall reading in Robert Graves’ memoir, Good-Bye to All That, that it was common practice for German prisoners to be killed on the journey back through the lines. Doesn’t make it right, just understandable in a protracted and brutal four+ year campaign like the Western Front where both sides maintained the “fighting spirit” of their troops with crude and jingoistic propaganda.

If World War I taught us anything then it was

1. War should be the last resort

2. But if you must, wage war with all your might so it is over as quickly as practicable

3. And in such a way that a better peace can be achieved than before the conflict

4. And always attempt to wage war in a way that supports the morality and goodness of your cause.

Anyway, that is my contribution to something different to today’s GD.

    The NZ mounted brigade, part of the Anzac mounted division, played a great role in driving the Turks out of Palestine and back through Syria. Their good deeds included saving thousands of surrendering Turkish troops from massacre by Arabs.
    
    Ion Idriess was an Australian trooper in the division and kept a diary, which was the basis of his book, The Desert Column. In this he has high praise for the NZ troopers of the division. A monument, depicting an Australian trooper rescuing a wounded NZ trooper, was erected in the Suez Canal zone but was torn down by a mob during the Suez crisis. A replica has been erected in West Australia.
    
    The incident Milky refers to occurred when an Arab thief murdered an NZ trooper who chased him from the trooper’s tent. Troops – Australians and probably British mounted troops as well – were incensed and killed scores of Arab men from the neighbouring village.
    
    Allenby, who had honoured the NZ troops earlier by making them his bodyguard on his entry into Jerusalem, rebuked them severely.
    
    The massacre was reprehensible, but it was a drop in the ocean compared with the Turks’ horrendous massacre of 1. 5 million Christian Armenians, and the brutal treatment of thousands of British, Indian, and Anzac P.O.W.s., and indeed of the Arabs’ massacres of Turkish prisoners.
    
    IMHO, the NZ mounted soldiers of World War 1, were upstanding, strong people, and beyond comparison with us mere word-sniper bloggers 100 years later.

24 year old solo mum with 4 kids under 5. How the fuck do we let this happen as a society. That is just 20 years of high benefits we need to pay plus all the likely costs for the kids for the rest of there lives.

Also the kids were found with eye infections, ear infections, school sores all of the body, no clean nappies in the house.

Six of eight legal aid offices to shut

The Ministry of Justice is to close six of its eight legal aid offices around the country.

The announcement comes after a long-serving judge, Sir Ron Young, criticised legal aid funding cuts and a drop in the number of lawyers wanting to work in the area.

He said people’s rights to fair representation were being eroded.

Offices in Waitakere, Napier, Christchurch, Manukau, New Plymouth and Rotorua will shut in the first half of next year.

Operations will be based in Wellington and Takapuna, in Auckland.

Ministry of Justice legal aid general manager Jacquelyn Shannon said it was making changes to the “way it administered the legal aid granting and debt functions”.

“We are doing this because consolidating systems is more efficient and ensures a more consistent national service.”

Ms Shannon said 72 full-time-equivalent positions were affected and there would be 69 new full-time-equivalent positions established.

But Christchurch barrister Liz Bulger said the move was a disaster, and would ruin the relationships legal aid lawyers had been building with people in their local communities.

Dame Margaret Bazley did a good job of exposing the rorts that were going on in legal aide, protestations, dissembling and obfuscations by those who were kicked off the gravy train notwithstanding.

And remember, lawyers, along with teachers, courtesy of the nature of their vocation, are about the most skilled in presenting their grievances and wish-lists as entirely disinterested and made for nothing but the good of those they serve!

        The point being we were sold the dream that independence was going to be the cure for all their ills but in reality it was a load of nonsense as the killing went on and now 10-15 years later the place is still a basket case kept alive by international aid.

        I’m not aware that violence has continued at anything like that rate since independence.

        Kosovo

        Not one success amongst them and people think independence for West Papua is a good idea.

        Success for me would be defined as internal peace in the country and external peace with neighbours.
        Also the ability to support itself without being totally reliant on handouts from the rest of the world.
        In other words a viable economy.
        Inevitably countries which want independence have a perceived oppressor of some sort but usually all that happens is when that oppressor is removed everyone then turns on each other instead which is just a different version of the same.

Pity all of the victims were innocent and unsuspecting civilians, or firemen and police trying to rescue those in mortal danger.

Dell Fires 3000 US Employees, Requests 5000 Visas For Foreign Workers

“People familiar with the company’s plans” told Bloomberg that Dell will cut 2,000 to 3,000 jobs.

Dell spokesman Dave Farmer refused to comment specifically on the report on Thursday but said instead, as sort of a confirmation: “As is common with deals of this size, there will be some overlaps we will need to manage and where some employee reduction will occur.”

On Wednesday, the day the deal closed, CEO Michael Dell gave some clues in an interview: “There are some overlapping functions and that sort of thing – that’s not the primary feature of this, but there is some of that.”

Combined they have about 140,000 employees. So the trimming might have a long ways to go, especially if the cloud and the Internet of Things are not as fun as imagined. But that doesn’t mean that the headcount will come down – they’re bringing in foreign workers, mostly from India.

Between 2014 and 2016, Dell applied for 2,039 H-1B visas and 256 Green Cards. EMC applied for 2,347 H-1B visas and 453 Green Cards, for a total of 5,095 applications.

  (Unless they used a different method to demolish them, in which case I’d be really interested as there may be some particularly spectacular new physics that I haven’t come across.)

Many years ago I came a close second in the Miss Cannons Creek beauty contest of 1969. Soon after I left Porirua & was beset by a long period of bad luck.

I suffered years of alcohol & drug addictions followed by a series of eating disorders. I lost a leg & needed facial reconstruction surgery after a road traffic accident. Later I suffered 90% burns in an unprovoked acid attack. Several of my teeth were knocked out & an eye gouged in a bitch fight in the carpark of the local KFC. The stress caused severe hair loss & facial warts.

But I never stopped believing.

And the finally, last month, I was crowned “Miss Mount Roskill 2016”.

    Correct; steel weakens at lesser temperatures, and what brought the buildings down was the load above the parts damaged by the planes. That’s why the second tower to be struck fell first; the impact was lower down in the building, so the weight above the weak point was incrementally far greater.

Annual GDP figures will be out soon, and already some bank economists and their mates have begun spouting hype bout the return of the “rock star economy”. They will focus on GDP, which grows with population, not on GDP per capita, which is what counts, and will, at best, probably be flat.

NZ was first labelled a “rock star economy” by HSBC’s chief economist for Australia and New Zealand, Paul Bloxham. That was back in January 2014. He made the comment to the international business news TV network CNBC.

By October 2015, HSBC had changed its tune. Here’s what the Hooerald reported on 22 October 2015.

HSBC has added New Zealand to a watch-list of nations it has concerns about, which also includes Malaysia, Indonesia and Norway.

In its latest Macro Health Check report, the bank flags concerns about rising house prices in this country, as well as our deep links with China – where growth is slowing – and tumbling dairy prices, according to the Bloomberg news agency.

Now, HSBC seems to have changed back to the “rock star economy” song. HSCC New Zealand’s chief, was telling us in the Hooerald yesterday what our migration policy should be:

“You’re hearing quite a bit in the political environment … New Zealand is seeing some very healthy migration flows and it is a real concern of ours that populist rhetoric doesn’t overwhelm what is actually a benefit for New Zealand.”

HSBC has been cutting jobs and shrinking its investment bank. Its first-half result this year was down by 5.33 billion NZ dollars.

Originally called the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, it is one of the world’s half-dozen biggest banks by assets.

Interestingly, media reports suggest HSBC has got its hands dirty in Mexico. Families of victims killed by criminal gangs are suing it for its alleged involvement in processing funds for the Sinaloa cartel, perhaps the world’s biggest drug trafficker.

Cameron’s Chancellor the Exchequer (Finance Minister) George Osborne, is reported to have persuaded the United States not to pursue criminal charges against HSBC.
