I recall some book written back in the mid nineties by Ian Buruma (some time last century) that contrasted the “war guilt” of the Germans with that in Japan. The book attempted to make the point that “the Germans had done a much better job than the Japanese for expressing their guilt…”

Why would you be so interested in expressions of war guilt Odakyu? Feel free to answer directly.

Discrimination against cats.
This whole idea of microchipping is a plot to expose the secret life of cats.

“Tom (cat) says ” what we get up to at night is all above board and us cats are upset that our private lives are going to be subject to cathunts that may divulge secrets we have held for years.”
” If I go after another pussy from down the road my regular jump next door may find out and tracking may cause mayhem amongst normally quiet curled up moggies.”

“It’s an attack on our privacy and while strangling us with collars and bells was a failure there is no need to implement this draconian measure of chips that are so hard to scratch out.”

Firstly if the cat strays you can trace its owner.

Only if you can catch it and take it to someone who can read the microchip.

Secondly if the cat kills endangered wildlife the owner can be held accountable.

The microchip doesn’t really help prove that the cat did it – you’d have to catch the cat and provide some sort of evidence that the cat killed the endangered wildlife.

Thirdly if the cat is un-chipped it gets euthanized.

This is the biggest problem I have with chipping – this automatic assumption that a cat can be killed if not microchipped. What about microchips that are there but can’t be found with the scanner or microchips that fail? Does the cat have to die if technology fails.

Scott,

I am not interested in the expressions of war guilt per se, but I am interested in the reasons why the Germans are doing what they are doing.

To use that uncouth and crude American expression, maybe too much “pussification” can be harmful to a nation. I wonder if, paradoxically, the majority of the supporters of government policies to allow “refugees” into Germany are men or women?

My guess is most of the really smart clergy are fundamentally agnostic or deist. But hell, I could be wrong. Maybe God exists though I doubt it.

Remember how making responsible owners microchip their dogs stopped the pitbulls attacking people?
Just like banning kid-smacking stopped the ferals killing kids.
Disclaimer: Our cat and our dog are both microchipped.
Dog is in a fenced section, stays inside the house 90% of the time, cat sleeps inside and never strays off the property.
Was the microchipping wasted money?

Yes what about your kids when they get one Lucia, when they’re forced to lest be unable to buy or register for anything at all, not even a bank account, not even a phone or a wifi connection.

What happens then?

I found this article about German WW2 history education-

‘Learning about World War II and the Holocaust at school: Overall, I think we learned about this time period at least three times. The first time the Holocaust came up in detail was in grade three or four, at the age of 9 or 10. The whole topic had a weird fascination for me because it made sense of a lot of small things in German culture, and finally we learned all about it. At the same time, I was horrified. I couldn’t imagine how people could believe these screwed-up ideas and do such horrible things in the name of these ideas. But it was a horror like I have for the witch trials and stuff like that. I didn’t make the connection between the war my grandfather fought and World War II. Later, we went to the Dachau Concentration Camp (as most schools around Munich do), and it was interesting and informative but not really disturbing. In Germany, the whole idea of “your own people” is not encouraged, and there is not a big feeling of unity (except if it’s about football/soccer)’.

Interesting that ‘our own people’ is not encouraged, other than in sports. I can now understand why Germans appear impotent in the face of the migrant invasion, and how Merkel can lead them like lemmings; they cannot think of Germany as a political nation. Poor bastards.

inandout , I guess many Germans are a bit self-conscious about having bouts of Nationalistic fervour and hysteria given the 1930s , WW2 and the holocust .

However , Germans have the opportunity to toss Merkel out come next general election with a party or parties wanting to introduce more saner and workable immigration policies .
