Electric cars are great. The fossil fuel companies love them. They are an incredibly inefficient way of using fossil fuels, due to losses of energy through the network. Thus increasing demand for oil, gas and glorious coal.

Even better, the big oil companies can invest in them, getting huge tax write offs and subsidies.

No one loves electric cars more than big oil. 🙂

[Pssst, don’t tell poor Griff, it will break his heart and we don’t want him threatening people again. Not after last time !]

Please dont tell the parrot that I am actually aware of things like efficiency when it comes to the internal combustion engine
You know having been a keen rev head for almost forty years and built and owned some interesting things in that time I do know how a four stroke or two stroke engine works both diesel and petrol.
I also have a steam plant license so am even certified to run a gas or coal boiler plant.
A thermal electrical generation plant is a lot more efficient than burning fuel in your car.
Thermal plants dont need to get rid of that waste heat that if you dont remove from your cars engine results in catastrophic failure . Generator efficiency Grid lost and Charging losses still result in a electric car using less energy than burning that fuel directly in your car.
But the parrot being an idiot has no idea about the world around him besides what time nursy comes with his meds.

Why electric cars are inefficient polluters

The premise is that clean, “green” electricity is a better fuel than dirty, polluting gasoline.

But if you have a basic knowledge of science and do some thinking, you know that electricity is not a fuel or source of energy unto itself. You have to burn fuel like nuclear rods, coal, oil or natural gas to make electricity.

According to the latest New Jersey Energy Master Plan, 50 percent of all electricity produced in New Jersey in 2010 came from nuclear fission. Another 49 percent came from burning coal, oil, natural gas or garbage. Only about 1 percent came from waterfalls created by dams, windmills and solar panels put together.

An honest ad would say that an electric car is 98 percent powered by burning coal, oil, gas, garbage or nuclear fuel.

Keeping Stock has met paralympian Cameron Leslie and says he has the utmost respect for him . Fair enough. I remember when I was doing a bit of swimming in my 50’s a bloke with only stumps for legs used to swim at the same time and I had no show of keeping up with him, and I don’t think he did any training to speak of. The problem I have with paralympians is it must be difficult to compare like with like. I mean does someone with only stumps for legs compete against someone who has only stumps for arms? Oscar Pistorius complained when he was beaten in the 100 metres by another runner who he said had longer blades.

I am qualified to run an industrial steam plant (boiler) like in a dairy company etc.
Like an old time steam train has but used as a means to heat or create a vacuum in industry.
Thermal generation from coal or oil is a steam plant running a steam turbine hooked to a generator.
Having lived of grid I also know the inefficiency in batteries etc

Concerns raised over links between Palmerston North and UAE

The Palmerston North Women’s Health Collective has expressed concerns about any potential links between the Palmerston North City Council and the United Arab Emirates.

The concerns come following a December 6 Facebook post from Palmerston North Mayor Grant Smith showing him alongside representatives of the UAE and indicating a potential arrangement with Emirates airline and the city’s airport.

The group said it would not want the council to turn a blind eye to a country’s human rights record, “in this case particularly to the plight of women and children”.

If only the wind blew just when you needed it, but sadly, it doesn’t. And it never, ever will.

If you want a regular source of natural generation, look into tidal. And bear in mind Cook Strait and Tauranga are ideal sites for that, which eliminates the North Island’s dependancy on SI hydro.

Let’s hope if they do that, they think about laying the cable someplace other than directly on the main faultline, which is where the cable is currently living.

Isn’t that reassuring.

He says offshore wind is already producing about five per cent of the UK’s energy needs, a rate which should double by the end of this decade. With just one per cent of the UK’s seabed having been developed and construction costs coming down dramatically, dragging eventual electricity prices lower, energy produced at sea from offshore wind and tidal power and overseas connectors, could hit 50 per cent by 2030, he adds.

“[By] 2025, industry and government expect UK prices to be comparable with new gas generation at about £85 per megawatt hour (MWh),” says Den Rooijen.

“In the Netherlands, there has been an even bigger step change… [and] the Dutch are now going to be paying the equivalent of about £80 per MWh. That is significantly lower than Hinkley Point at £92.50per MWh.”

The problem with Britain’s (planned) nuclear-power station [Hinkley Point C]

That could be a colossal waste of money, and not just because the reactors EDF proposes to install at HPC are overdue and over-budget at both the sites in Finland and France where they are under construction. Once the plant is built and the subsidy starts filling up EDF’s pockets, it would lock bill-payers into supporting a price for 35 years, which will seem even more expensive as the cost of other clean-energy technologies, such as wind and solar, continue to fall. What’s more, the type of inflexible “baseload” power that HPC could provide may become an anachronism as the renewable alternatives become cheaper. Because wind and solar are intermittent sources of energy, subject to the weather and the time of day, they need nimble back-up power that can be turned on and off quickly. Presently that is best provided by gas-fired turbines. Over the next few decades, batteries or other technologies may become affordable enough to do a cleaner, better job.

Abundant natural Fossil fuels changed all that and lifted humanity from the dark ages. Sadly some want us to return to those bleak days of poverty, serving an elite ruling class.

With an installed coal-fired generation capacity of 5,500 MW, it is the largest coal-fired power station in the world,[4][5] and also the world’s largest emitter of carbon dioxide with approximately 40 million tons annually (or about as much as the country of Switzerland as a whole).[6]

We can move to higher ground. Our housing stock is old and crappy anyway.

Plenty of land tied up in National parks. We could use the trees for timber and knock the tops off the hills, mining for minerals and coal as we go. The tailings can be dumped in the valleys creating even more flat land.

Then we can sit back and enjoy the fishing.

We can move to higher ground. Our housing stock is old and crappy anyway.

Plenty of land tied up in National parks. We could use the trees for timber and knock the tops off the hills, mining for minerals and coal as we go. The tailings can be dumped in the valleys creating even more flat land.

Foxton is a natural go to hick town to laugh about . . .
I won’t link it but – woman with bowel cancer and seven kids – light on detail of course. In a house bus and a sleepout.
Of course – they managed to burn the house bus to cinders.
Spent her life helping others – we also would’ve accepted pregnant – keeping herself busy with self-created lifetime-sucking tasks of childcare.
If you’ve ever wondered why places like Foxton still exist – that’s how. Give birth to 5-15 clan and yep – odds on at least one of them won’t run away from the place screaming.

Fires can happen to anyone eh – yeah, yeah. *wink*
Bowel cancer is one of the most preventable ones according to the sum total of human knowledge stored digitally. I’m sure she couldn’t in any way have avoided developing cancer or reducing her risk. *wink*
Seven kids – I’d have trouble just remembering names and allergies (damn near killed the peanut son the other week) . . . I’m sure they’ll always be well looked after by . . . *someone*.

What an interesting country. They live ‘rural’ – and didn’t have any water. Nothing short of a fire appliance is going to do anything once the windows are blowing out like an action scene from Die Hard anyway lady. Rural ? They’re near SH1 in the town ? I suppose so. All of Foxton is rural – anywhere without The Warehouse qualifies I take it.

That’s just one thing going on – fark me . . . so much. Too much.
