Just read about that waste of a parliamenary salary Mahuta woman who has got herself a maori chin tattoo….this begs the question: So she gets the Tattoo after a cpl of decades in Parliament (and a gold plated pension guaranteed), she has been drawing an annual salary that most NZ’rs would cut their arm off to get….and now she is asking ‘young’ maori (male and female)to get a facial tattoo and feel proud!!. If she is so proud why did she wait till she was in her late 40’s (sorry unsure how old she is) and her financial future is guaranteed. Great role model..NOT!

Well its not all bad news around the traps today is it.

Dairy prices are up a fair amount, which will bring relief to the farming community, and it will inevitably bring a feeling of well being across the population.

Its the same when any large export commodity e.g. Kiwifruit, is tracking well.

When prices are up we all feel better don’t we?

I’m interested in the sight of ‘ordinary’ people starting to revolt against the Political Elites (which includes the MSM). Trump is an idiot yet the dissatisfaction must be so high that he still gets support. That’s worth thinking about.
I was reading about what a Preference Cascade is and I’m just wondering whether we have an environment where it might emerge. We’ll see.
I’ve no problem with 538 and I use their scale of Polling Companies as a guide.
However, what’s the story with the high percentage of ‘neither’. I don’t think we have ever seen such a high rate saying this ever before. Polls aren’t good at dealing with things they’ve never seen before.
How do they deal with it? ignore it? Discount it?

Edit- have to say Trumps last speeches have been a lot lot better. It’s probably too late to make a difference and it may be when he loses he looks back and regrets not pivoting sooner.
The lack of ground game is going to kill him too.

@pcplod, sorry for being slow off the mark – suggest that you try Baycorp or similar as a credit agency. Not uncommon for bankrupts to go to ground for a while, and can be hard to track them down as utilities etc are often put in the name of a proxy or other family member to avoid detection.

Seeing as the company is already in liquidation (and assume that the debts are owed to you by the company rather than the individual), then you need to contact the liquidator to register your interests. Sadly, unsecured creditors for most of these types of businesses get pennies on the dollar, or nothing at all.

Another heart warming piece at 10.05am about the beauty of life in Mt Roskill and the unmatched quality of life it brings people lucky enough to live there.
Who needs to go on holiday when paradise is beckoning on our own front door step.
The message does not seem to have got through to the tourism authorities however with Mt Roskill still listed on the safe travel website as “avoid if possible and extreme caution required”.
It lists a variety of dangers in travel to this area with some of them being frequent outbreaks of bubonic plague, risk of trampling by roving herds of camels, frequent acid and razor blade attacks on women, general lawlessness and most tellingly in my opinion was the mention of lack of English at the service counter in Pak n Save.

Whoops! Posted this on Tuesday’s general debate thread by mistake …

NZ falcons pose an interesting conundrum for conservationists.

These great birds are, tsk! tsk! killing tuis and bellbirds.

Some vineyards are using falcons to keep away other birds that steal grapes. Internationally, similar birds are being saved by giving them jobs needed in the modern world, such as scaring other birds away from airports and keeping swarms of pigeons away from buildings.

The vineyard falcons in Marlborough are reputed to have made things hazardous for long-distance racing pigeons crossing Cook Strait. A racing pigeon is a double-burger to a falcon.

NZ falcons, also known as karearea and sparrow hawks, are gutsy little fellows. IMHO, they would be a good symbol for NZ teams or soldiers.

Climbers, and musterers in the days before DOC (spurred on by Helen Clark) enclosed the South Island high country, would be dive-bombed by them if they came too close to a falcon nest. These falcons nest on the ground and are pretty defenceless there. Even hedgehogs eat their eggs.

In some of the vineyards, there have been attempts to teach falcons to nest in special boxes above ground.

Let’s hope the conservation machine doesn’t turn against these great little battlers.

The “time bomb” is the baby-boomers hitting their 80s. This is the surge in baby numbers as servicemen returned from World War 2, married and had kids. This is like a big egg passing through a little stake. It means that from about 2020 to 2030 there will be a surge in the number of 80-year-olds (and those in their late 70’s), then aged-home demand will fall sharply and keep falling for some time.

I’ve heard about the Rotorua falcons.

The English guy who led the “urbanisation” of falcons in Britain and was involved with saving falcons in the Middle East led the Marlborough-Nelson move to use them in vineyards, I understand.

In the South Island high country, right down to Southland and Stewart Island, the falcons have never been wiped out, though numbers continued to fall as cats, hedgehogs and stoats preyed on their eggs.

Falcons are a good reason to oppose wind farms, which can chop them up.

We’ve got onshore coal-seam gas, and probably heaps and heaps of offshore gas. Probably enough to keep us in electriciyt for a couple of centuries until either:

A: Nuclear power is 99.999999999 per cent safe in a quake-prone country on the rim of fire; or

B: Scientists and scaredy-cats are in a state about the threat of a new mini or full Ice Age, in which case we will be flat out burning coal and lignite (of which we have heaps).

Wind has been a big con, though I see the Brits with the latest technology claim to be doing well with offshore windmills. They don’t have too many albatrosses to chop up, though.

Griff, in his 5.56 post, defends wind farms’ slaughter of birds by citing articles (in one case just the abstract), which try to counter this by claiming that thermal and atomic power generation kills more birds by contributing to global warming. (Wind farms do, too, in the manufacture of their components and power lines and in the work servicing them and ultimately replacing them.)

Griff, you are a global warming fanatic. When it comes to anything to do with global warming you talk and argue like a religious fanatic.

I don’t give a rat’s arse whether there is global warming or there isn’t, or whether, if there is global warming, it relates only to the last two centuries of recorded history or to the whole two billion or so years of Earth’s existence.

The allegation is that this is because non-wind farm power generation allegedly contributes to global warming. Or we should say, contributes more, given the construction, maintenance, linking, and ultimately replacement, of wind farms.

Wind farms chop up birds. Full bloody stop. If there is global warming, fossil-fuel and atomic power generation might kill more in a couple of centuries. If global warming proves not to be occurring in 2350 AD then wind farms may have slaughtered millions of birds and fossil-fuel and atomic power plants may have killed virtually none.

Has Griff revealed his climatology credentials? Only senile fools deny the scientific method. Making absurd generalisations such as the science is settled ( it never is, on anything), or the weaker argument called consensus science, is neither scientific, nor helpful. And a computer model is just that, a model. It can never replicate the real situation, and these need to be treated with utmost caution. This is not to say that modelling in itsself is a waste of time, but too much has been inferred from these. Freeman Dyson had this to say…

Dyson agrees that anthropogenic global warming exists, and has written that “[one] of the main causes of warming is the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere resulting from our burning of fossil fuels such as oil and coal and natural gas.”[60] However, he believes that existing simulation models of climate fail to account for some important factors, and hence the results will contain too much error to reliably predict future trends:

If, in the pursuit of policies of “diversity” or “multiculturalism,” a certain ethnic group (or groups) concentrates itself in one suburb (as is human nature), displacing the original inhabitants, how is the net effect different to that of “ethnic cleansing?”

I assume that by its accepted definition, “ethnic cleansing” can only occur during civil wars.

What if the effect is still very similar?

Should the State “repopulate” certain parts of its cities? Do they have no sense of obligation to culture heritage? Or in a strange “neutron bomb”-like way, they leave the historical buildings untouched, but make all the original inhabitants disappear?

Maybe this is just the way of the global community and fossils such as myself should step out and fade away…

Griff you have just proved you are an expert on nothing. If you can’t see the link between Climatology (which is essentially a field governed by fluid dynamics) which is essentially a field of physics, you are even less qualified to comment on this than previously thought. The most ardent objections come from physicists, experts in thermodynamics and other related fields that have real difficulty reconciling the claims of many climatologists and the fields they are experts in. I don’t deny climate change, or even that the temperture may be warming, its the simple cause and effect that has been offered as an explanation that bothers me.
