I don’t know why you had so many down votes but I agree with you: Mr. Trump will be the next potus. Joe The Plumber has a recent op ed at Breitbart and he is spot on in his assessment:

“Donald Trump has done something which I’ve been waiting to happen for a long time: He’s won the Republican nomination for president virtually without spending a dime and saying whatever he wants without regard for approval whatsoever from Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Academia, or the politically correct press. When you read how Trump can’t beat Hillary, keep in mind you’re hearing it from the same people who scoffed down their smug noses that he could not possibly win the GOP nomination, either.

They piously labeled his campaign a reality show, a shameless plug for the Trump brand, or a joke. Then these same mystics assured you he would never win a thing after Iowa because he couldn’t prevail with his “style.” They are now stating unequivocally: Trump can’t win in November. I don’t believe that and never have. From the jump, I believed it when Trump said he hadn’t even started in on Hillary. That is a long time coming, my friends.

The Labour Party and the Green Party have confirmed that they will work together at next year’s election in a bid to change the Government.

Labour leader Andrew Little and Green co-leaders James Shaw and Metiria Turei announced this afternoon that they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

“It is time for a change,” Mr Little said.

“Labour and the Greens have reached an agreement, common ground, that now is the time to start the work to change the Government in 2017.”

“Jungle” Jack Hanna, the animal expert who was often on Letterman and other shows, says the zoo did the right thing by killing the gorilla.

Famed animal zookeeper, television host and director emeritus of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium defended the decision to put down the 450 pound gorilla named Harambe to protect the life of the 4-year-old boy who fell into the enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo.

“I’ve seen him take a green coconut, which you can’t bust open with a sledgehammer and squish it like this,” Hanna told “Good Morning America” about Harambe, gesturing with his hand the ease with which gorillas can crush fruit. “You’re dealing with either human life or animal life here. So what is the decision? I think it’s very simple to figure that out.”

“I can tell you now, that there’s no doubt in my mind the child would not be here today if they hadn’t made the decision,” Hanna said.
Hanna also defended his position on CBS This Morning and was even more adamant that a horrific tragedy was avoided.

“You hear the screaming noise and watch that gorilla’s response. He doesn’t know what’s going on — he’s a silverback and not a female. You can see by his face that he’s alarmed. He goes over and looks at the little child, there’s no doubt about that, but what happens when you tranquilize the animal?”

“I do research in the wild with gorillas and I know what happens,” Hanna expounded. “When the dart hits that animal … he jumps and what would happen if the animal had a hold of that little boy?”

“So what choice do we have? We have human life and animal life. So what choice do we have?”

“I agree 100% (of the Zoo’s decision to take down the animal),” said Hanna.

“They made the correct decision. In fact, it’s a millisecond decision. They cannot tranquilize … it takes five to ten minutes,” he said. “All of us are sorry. We are heartfelt, but thank goodness a human being is alive today because of a decision the Cincinnati Zoo made.”

A difficulty with a highly personal account of deconversion and conversion such as this is that it says more about the narrator’s psyche than about reality. Bauerlein can now recognise his own motivations as a teenager, but can he recognise his present motivations and dispassionately separate them from epistemology?

Someone who apparently admired deconstruction, cultural studies and post-modernism isn’t setting the intellectual bar very high. When he said his religious instruction was competitive with Foucault and Derrida, my first thought was, ‘It’s that bad!”

I see that today is the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Jutland, the most significant naval clash of the First World War. HMS New Zealand participated, one of few ships to fight in the three major actions in the North Sea during the war. New Zealand was a gift to the Royal Navy from the Dominion. I’m not sure whether there were many New Zealanders aboard, aboard, but the Captain wore a piupiu during the battle, observing a superstition among the crew that no harm would befall them if this was worn.
After visiting New Zealand after the war, the battle-cruiser was scrapped as part of naval treaty commitments, although it took the New Zealand government till 1944 to finish paying off the loan taken out to fund construction.

Australian man arrested on child pornography charges in Canada

A Perth child psychiatrist is charged in Canada with child pornography offences after he was allegedly caught filming a boy in a public bathroom. Aaron Voon, who is believed to work as a child psychiatrist at the Successful Development and Therapy Centre in Perth, has been charged with possession of child pornography, making child pornography and voyeurism.

Translation: He’s a pervert.

Voon sent an email addressed to his colleagues, patients and family, saying he has closed his practice indefinitely.

“A most terrible thing has happened with me in the past week whilst overseas which I need to manage urgently,” he wrote.

“Public information may become available as details unfold. It means that I will have to cease practice immediately indefinitely.

“For patients and family I am so sorry for leaving you so suddenly. I can honestly state that these issues have been TOTALLY separate from work and I have always provided you and your children with the best possible, safe and appropriate care.”

Translation: He like boys, but he manages to separate his professional and personal interest in boys (yeah right)

A family violence lie repeated. Toni Street on TVNZ’s Seven Sharp tonight said New Zealand has the worst family violence in the world.

That suggests it is worse than Afghanistan, where women accused of adultery are buried to their neck and stoned to death by mobs, worse than in ISIL territory where the family can include a sex slave, worse than the many non-Western countries where polygamy rules, and worse than in countries where women, for marriage, are bought and sold or even exchanged for livestock.

It suggests NZ family violence is worse than family violence in Pakistan. There, the Islamic council which advises the Government is proposing that a man should be permitted to “lightly beat” his wife if she does not “dress as he desires”, refuses to have sex, fails to take a bath after her period or after intercourse, doesn’t wear a hijab, or speaks so loudly that strangers can hear.

The “NZ is worst” claim indicates that family violence in this country is worse than in Islamic countries where girl children are genitally mutilated, and worse than in countries where divorce for men is quick and easy but difficult, if not impossible, for wives.

It’s easy to acknowledge that NZ has a family violence problem. But the worst in the world? Bullshit.

I think the true picture is that we have one of the worst rates of domestic violence in the OECD, which is pretty bad on its own, considering that in most social measures we are up in the top two or three.

Milky (7.31). NZ may be down the list of nations in the OECD when it comes to family violence, but the OECD includes Turkey, and I doubt that family violence is worse in NZ than in Turkey. It also includes Finland, and according to the report linked to below from the UN, Finland rates worse than NZ in family violence.

According to the report, only 12 countries in the world report family violence, and NZ ranks 11th. There are 196 countries in the world, when you include Taiwan. There are about 34 countries in the OECD.

Why can’t we just recognise a problem and address it without blowing it up to world significance?

Put it this way we# know most the regular commentators on here and even most of the NZ political blog scene .
Maybe a hundred and fifty of us total who regularly comment on political blogs out of 4.5 million kiwis with maybe ten times that as lurkers and occasion commentators.

Malia Bouattia, black students conference’s officer of the country’s National Union of Students, and now president of the union, has called for prisons to be abolished because UK prisons are sexist and racist.

Bouattia earlier argued that it’s Islamophobic to oppose ISIS.

The nation’s lowest paid workers will receive a pay increase, following Fair Work Ombudsman’s annual minimum wage decision.

The Fair Work Commission on Monday lifted the national minimum wage by 2.4 per cent — from $656.90 a week to $672.70 per week .

Put another way, that’s $17.70 an hour up from $17.29 per hour — an increase of $15.80 per week.

Unions were pushing for a $30 per week increase, while business has been pushing for an increase of between $8 and $10 per week.

The commission found wages growth was neither a source of inflationary pressure win the economy, nor was it source of declining capacity for Australian firms to compete in international markets.

“The level of increase we have decided upon will not lead to inflationary pressure and is highly unlikely to have any negative impact on employment,” the FWC said in a statement.
