It can’t be a sensible idea for Housing New Zealand to kick families out and then have Work & Income pay for them to stay in a motel, running up some huge debt that will never be paid.

I agree Mike, since they admit to making P in three previous homes the kids should be taken into care and parents locked up for manufacture of a class A drug.

I agree they need to face sanctions for that, but I was concerned at the principle of the taxpayer kicking out a family and then paying for their more expensive accommodation.
Of course, if P were legal, no one would be cooking it in their houses…

I just happen to believe, along with many rational people, that the choice of psychoactive substance should be freely available to adults, instead of having some dangerous substances (alcohol, tobacco) legal and others illegal.
P is a potentially dangerous drug, but there is no rational reason to prohibit it manufacture, sale or consumption. To do so just exacerbates the harm associated with its use, by making the trade a prime funding source for criminals and the product of dubious quality for consumers.

One of the ways prohibition makes drug harm worse is it results in the use of stronger form of a drug. We see this in the rise of bootleg spirits concentrated alcohol during the USA’s prohibition of beer and wine.
Methamphetamine “P” is stronger form of amphetamines.
The economics of Prohibition has created this stronger form resulting in more harm from the drug than a legal market for Amphetamine (speed) would.

If P were legalised, there would be no reason why a landlord could no longer evict a tenant for breaching a tenancy agreement. I should hope that tenancy agreements already allow a tenancy agreement to be terminated where a tenant is damaging the property.
But, more importantly, if P were legal, no one would be cooking it up at home anyway.

We don’t see massive home production of alcohol and tobacco, so why would people want to make more dangerous substances at home if they could be made commercially in safe conditions?
