So, is TVNZ trying to spike TV3’s guns by scoring Hilary Barry, or do they really think she has the ability to lift the tired, dire offering they currently suffer with Rawdon Christie?

Classic over thinking and you’d bet the marketing clowns are involved. I seriously doubt the wisdom of the purchase.

Ultimately Paul Henry is the real reason viewers tune in to TV3, Hilary only adds to it. It was the same when Paul was on TV1. Can you remember the name of his then female co-host?

Took you a moment didn’t it!

This is a massive risk for Barry. ‘Breakfast’ is horrendously expensive to make and if Paul Henry keeps on keeping on, the first thing to be axed will be the $500,000 salaries. Hope Hilary’s lawyer has sewn this one up tight for her, for at least three no-fault years.

We have another so call journalist singing the praises of another Labour MP who to their view is highly respected on both sides of the house.This MP Annette King has been tied up in controversy on more than one occasion and I would dare to say has no respect from the public opposition parties and some of her own party so I would suggest to Nicholas Jones that he should write facts and go find the columns from the past concerning Annette on Ray Lind and Darren Hughes.This Msm lapdog should also visit the Parliament next time with his blinkers off and turn his hearing aid up as Annette is one of Labours crude sledgers whom likes to give but crys wolf when it is returned.

First the failing newspaper came out with stories that land tax would not work and stamp duty was the way to go. Then all the economists came out and described how people get around it in Aus and that that land tax is best. Time to change tack. Now they are saying mighty John did not come out with it soon enough. They must have a huge team looking for people with vested interests to make comments on how Government policies are wrong. They would struggle to sell their paper in a Bog.with no toilet rolls.

Is it just my personal view on politics of the Centre/Right or do I get the feeling that ALL the MSM are ramping up their anti Govt rhetoric now that we are a little over a year out from general election?
Everytime I read a newspaper or happen to catch the TV news channels there they are putting the boot into the Govt and in particular John Key. It appears, to me anyway, to be an orchestrated attempt to put into the minds of New Zealanders that this Govt has had it’s day and it’s time for a change.
An example was Angry Andy putting the boot in over the deployment of our soldiers to train Iraqi military and then visit a Jordanian refugee camp and declare that our Govt is not doing enough to help refugees and HE would double, just like that, the quota to 1500 at a cost (hes says) of an extra $60 million. We can afford it he says and that we have the infrastructure now to cope. I do wonder though if mainstream NZ’ders will agree with him?
Another example is a particular Centre/Right Talkback host on Newstalk ZB that was continually after Hulun Klark all through 2008, now attacking this Govt and JK. Not sure if he is playing Devils Advocate or thinks it time for a change. Unfortunately, the alternative, is very scary indeed.
But don’t worry about the alternative left Govt, Winny, (like Obama said during his first election campaign), “Can I fix it?, Yes I can”.

The reason for the hose is because the PIPE connecting my water meter to my property was leaking and needs replacing which would require major work under my concrete driveway.

So the hose is the easy, cheaper option.

The way current bathroom rules work is that if you look female enough that you might be a female no one says anything (how embarrassing would it be to make them have to prove it!).

That means most transsexuals shouldn’t have too much trouble passing if they make an effort to have an appearance that wont disturb the others in the toilet they choose to enter. They may well even be able to use both toilets.

If they don’t want to make that effort they can follow the even better option of not worrying too much about exactly which pipe their poos get flushed down before they end up in the sewers.

To Penny (non-lawyers bear with me for a moment)

Sanitary Plumbing according to the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006 includes:

the work of fixing or unfixing any pipe that
supplies or is intended to be a means of supplying water to any sanitary fixture
and
is within the legal boundary of the premises on which that sanitary fixture is installed

So, the attachment of the hosepipe to the meter is “sanitary plumbing” as the water will be supplied to the household loo. The Act further provides:

A person must not do any sanitary plumbing, or assist in doing any sanitary plumbing, unless that person is authorised to do so.

I assume Ms Bright is not so authorised. I thought she was a welder, not a plumber.

Now, there is an exception under s15 for a householder to do sanitary plumbing if the household is the residence of that householder and members of the family, but in Ms Bright’s case, she has boarders who are paying for their right/licence to occupy, and thus Ms Bright’s residence falls outside the exemption. What does this all mean? The offences section of the Act provides:

Every person commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 who does, or assists in doing, any—
sanitary plumbing in breach of section 8;

So I think we can safely say that there is a strong case to argue that what Ms Bright has done is illegal.

Which – if the black lid on the meter box was lifted – the connection of this hose to the water meter on MY property is obvious.

There is no point Penny Bright spending a lot of money to repair her water pipe if she is going to be turfed out on her ear in the near future! She has had the hose since at least 2012. A shortage of money is there! What you did not spend on rates could have fixed that problem. You could have used the money spent on junkets overseas. Edit last sentance.

I wish the champions for unisex toilets had been a bit more vocal back in the 1970s when I was unable to travel to the subantarctic islands on a NZ navy vessel. I was the Lands & Survey botanist… the veg on the subantarctic islands was being eaten out by introduced mammals…..but no females were allowed to go to sea with the navy as there were no female dunnies.

Now of course, females are found through all sections of the Navy and have served at sea since 1986.

Females have been denied access to jobs and places for yonks because of “toilet rules”.

Just be careful that in the clamour for equal rights for access to toilets/changing rooms, a large group of people (e.g.muslim females) are not left out.

Maggy Wassilieff, I think that people ( including Muslim women ) readily adjust to our local customs and habits that include both Unisex and separate toilet facilities .

Many cafes and restaurants for example simply don’t have the room for separate facilities and haven’t heard of protests or complaints , especially by Muslim and other women .

All this talk about public toilets and left wingers that so worries some (milky et a) reminds me that it was a senior left wing MP who was taken into custody for alleged indecent exposure in the old public toilet block opposite the (then) Hotel De Brett, Wellington. When identified at Waring Taylor Street, he was released without charge, and for a while it stayed under wraps. But it (the incident, the name and the allegation) was known to a few from that night, and ultimately, when he went a step too far in his personal attacks, caused him to resign for misleading The House.

It is never, ever, wise to open cans willy nilly ……… but it is wise keep them properly labelled!

Why hasn’t Ms Bright not had the supposedly leaking waterpipe “on her property” fixed? How long has Ms Bright had the hosepipe connected for? Surely it is her responsibility to repair the leaking pipe, she can then remove the connected hose pipe. NO! she sees this as her right to have free water to her soon to be sold Hovel.
A first grade hypocrite and does NOT deserve to be a Auckland Council mayoral candidate. The conflict of interest is very apparent to all of us Ms Bright. As a mayoral candidate who doesn’t do “political dirt and personal attacks” you have a duty to all Auckland ratepayers to pay your rates including paying for other council services such as WATER!

I actually do think Mr Slater should have looked at where the hose connection was made before asserting Ms Bright was stealing water. If as she claims the connection is on the house side of the meter then he would seem to owe her an apology and retraction for that statement. Having said that, I’m actually a bit surprised to hear that her water hasn’t been cut off after all these years of not paying her rates.
