The coroner, usually a lawyer, just takes the psychiatrists’ words. Coroners have no monopoly on commenting on health issues, though some coroners seem to regard themselves as experts on every thing, when they are usually no more than run-of-the-mill lawyers. And of course, coroners, like health officials, are civil servants.

To use an old saying, you could take some coroners’ knowledge of psychiatric issues and write it on the back of a postage stamp with a carpenter’s pencil.

The horrid has a piece about the housing crisis in Auckland with a poor old teacher unable to afford to buy a house where she wants to live….boo fucken hoo ! She doesn’t want to travel more than 10 minutes to work and wont move to more affordable areas or cities or consider the advice of experts. She is french, and it makes me wonder – is it because she is french she has a sense of entitlement or is because she is a teacher and member of teachers union ?

NOAA disagrees with Wrights hyperbole on sea level rise- is that a bit hard to grasp?
And, who doesn’t agree that the Climate Changes?
Btw, what does the IPCC say in AR5 Working Group report about sea level change? Do they agree with Wright?

Stephies Herald link has her saying the sea level will rise by 1 metre by 2100 if things aren’t mitigated. She has made this claim numerous times.
You seem quite keen on defending her, surely you know what she says.

Dr Wright says that sea level will rise by 1 metre this century.
The IPCC estimates that sea level rose by 10-11 cm last century. Are you relying on a linear projection of that rate over this century?

All this “Sea Level” talk can only be in reference to the height of the local land.

We know that ground levels can change over time due to geological processes.

If there is local coastal subsidence, say, 10 cm over the course of 30 years, would some people interpret this as evidence of “rising sea levels”?

I’m no fan of Matt McCarten. I think the Labour Party made a serious mistake by employing him.

But I wonder about this ‘tax evader’ label, which seems to surface any time someone wants to slag off the Labour Party. As I understand it, the Unite union service company owed tax to IRD and was wound up as a result. Is this somehow different from the dozens of firms wound up by IRD each year? Would you describe everyone associated with those companies as ‘tax evaders’?

NOAA and the IPCCs scientific expertise Mikey but I see you share Dr Wrights level of mathematic ability. She is saying it will rise by a Metre by 2100 if we don’t mitigate by reducing CO2 That is 84 years away.
So the sea has to rise by approx 12mm per annum to increase by a metre in 84 years.
Current state of mean sea level rise for Auckland since 1903 is 1.29 mm per annum. So sea level rise has to increase tenfold from today to meet her claim.

How GISS and NASA altered historical climate data to give the illusion of more of an increase in warming than there was, even adjusting data from 100 years ago (based on what?). Yep, they adjusted historical temperature data from 1910 downwards, and data from the 2000’s upwards to try and show a bigger increase than there actually was.

“One question that popped into my mind back then was whether or not – with all of the estimation going on – the historical record was static. One could reasonably expect that the record is static. After all, once an estimate for a given year is calculated there is no reason to change it, correct? That would be true if your estimate did not rely on new data added to the record, in particular temperatures collected at a future date. But in the case of GISStemp, this is exactly what is done.

On March 29 I downloaded the GLB.Ts.txt file from GISS and compared it to a copy I had from late August 2007. I was surprised to find several hundred differences in monthly temperature. Intrigued, I decided to take a trip back in time via the “Way Back Machine”.

Here I found 32 versions of GLB.Ts.txt going back to September 24, 2005. I was a bit disappointed the record did not go back further, but was later surprised at how many historical changes can occur in a brief 2 1/2 years.The first thing I did was eliminate versions where no changes to the data were made.

On average 20% of the historical record was modified 16 times in the last 2 1/2 years. The largest single jump was 0.27 C. This occurred between the Oct 13, 2006 and Jan 15, 2007 records when Aug 2006 changed from an anomoly of +0.43C to +0.70C, a change of nearly 68%.

Wow.

I guess they figured nobody would notice.

@ mikenmild – McCarten had two breaches. Yes; Unite Support Services was put into liquidation owing more than $150k to IRD. But the more serious breach was that of the Unite Union itself, failing to pass on PAYE deducted from employees.

The information in there from IRD is pretty compelling. IRD makes it abundantly clear that employers have no right whatsoever to use PAYE monies deducted from employees for any other purpose, and it is an offence punishable by up to five years imprisonment.

But just in case you consider Whaleoil a dodgy source, here’s one of the articles the stories about McCarten are sourced from:

The Council of Trade Unions wants an explanation from Unite on why it failed to pay the IRD more than $36,000 in PAYE on behalf of its employees.

Unite, one of New Zealand’s largest unions, owed IRD over $130,000 for the year ended March 2009 (its most recent filing), including more than $57,000 in unpaid GST. For the same financial year its liabilities outweighed its assets by more than $170,000.

Unite head Matt McCarten confirmed yesterday that the union owed money to the IRD but said he had made choices to pay for union campaigns rather than clear the debt. “I don’t shy away from these decisions, I make the calls.”

He said Unite paid $8000 in PAYE each month to the IRD but kept incurring late payment penalties. He claimed not to know exactly how much it owed the IRD.

He agreed it was not a good look for a workers’ union to fail to pay its employees’ tax.

Unite represents workers predominantly in the food, call centre and retail sectors and has campaigned to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

CTU president Helen Kelly said Unite did good work in an area that was difficult and expensive to organise. That required it to juggle its finances. “All unions are always short of resources.”

However, when questioned on Unite’s tax failure, she said: “I need an explanation for that”.

And you arrogantly interpreted what Hansen said. He said they (NZ Rugby) was happy with the kids in their sport. You said what he meant was, ” We don’t get the weak and sickly kids whose mothers don’t want them to get hurt so they play a sport that is not really a sport!”.

What he meant was rugby was happy with the kids playing rugby – that’s what he said and why he said it. The other stuff comes straight out of your head not his and says something of you not him.

The climate change movement faces big trouble ahead.

The UN’s climate summit in Paris at the end of 2015 concluded with a bang. The world’s governments promised sweeping cuts in carbon emissions. Rich countries promised to help poor ones with $100 billion per year in climate assistance. President Obama quickly declared the agreement “the best chance we have to save the one planet we’ve got.” The consensus quickly jelled that this was a major, historic achievement.

Then came the fizzle: The agreement is non-binding. Secretary of State John Kerry asserted on NBC’s Meet the Press that compliance would be enforced through the “powerful weapon” of public shaming, apparently implying a policy of verbal confrontation toward states that fall short. The Danish scientist Bjørn Lomborg, a prominent critic of the top-down international conference approach to climate change, called the Paris agreement the “costliest in history” if implemented. According to Lomborg, the agreement would “reduce temperatures by 2100 by just 0.05 degrees Celsius (0.09 degrees Fahrenheit)…. This is simply cynical political theater, meant to convince us that our leaders are taking serious action…a phenomenally expensive but almost empty gesture.” NASA scientist Jim Hansen, one of the earliest proponents of the idea that global warming is manmade, slammed the deal as “half-assed and half-baked,” a “fake,” and a “fraud.”

Don’t be fooled by the fanfare in Paris: The climate change movement faces big trouble ahead. Its principal propositions contain two major fallacies that can only become more glaring with time.

First, in stark contrast to popular belief and to the public statements of government officials and many scientists, the science on which the dire predictions of manmade climate change is based is nowhere near the level of understanding or certainty that popular discourse commonly ascribes to it.

Second, and relatedly, the movement’s embrace of an absolute form of the precautionary principle distorts rational cost-benefit analysis, or throws it out the window altogether. As the costs of decarbonization start to hit home, and the public demands greater certainty about the benefits to be gained, the public—and particularly those industries that are hardest hit—will invest in scientific research, in the hopes of achieving a more granular cost-benefit analysis. Something similar is happening to proposed listings under the Endangered Species Act—where major economic interests are threatened, they have responded with enormous investments in scientific research in order to show either that the species in question is not in danger, or that it can be protected by measures far short of the often draconian prohibitions imposed pursuant to the Act.

These factors will almost certainly produce a more nuanced and less messianic view of the climate problem, with solutions aimed to maximize “bang for the buck” at the margins, where climate threats are most grave, rather than reordering human society in order to “save” a planet that, in the grand scheme of things, is quite indifferent to the state of the climate at any given time.

I seem to remember the rather large Maori MP now deceased who claimed he used to see the white children waving at him from the school bus as he walked to school. This was proven to be BS.

I hope you don’t work for the IRD mikenmild, because their definitions make it pretty clear that Unite (run by McCarten, who admits to making decisions with regard to tax non-payment) DID evade its PAYE obligations.

What part of this:

Failing to pay deductions

Employers must pay deductions to us by each due date.

The money deducted doesn’t, at any stage, belong to employers. Under no circumstances should the deductions be used for any other purpose than for payment to us. We’ll help employers who try to meet their responsibilities but will take action against employers who don’t comply with the tax laws.

Failing to pay deductions to us is a serious offence and can result in prosecution. An employer who is convicted may be:

fined up to $50,000 and/or
sent to prison for up to five years.

The name of anyone convicted will also appear in the New Zealand Gazette.

and this:

Evasion

Anyone convicted of knowingly attempting to evade their responsibilities can be fined up to $50,000 and/or be imprisoned for up to five years. It’s also illegal for an employer to aid or assist another person to commit an offence.

would lead you to conclude otherwise? After all, McCarten himself said when questioned by the Dom-Post “I don’t shy away from these decisions, I make the calls.”.It makes one wonder why Cunliffe hired him in 2014, and why Little retained him when he assumed the leadership last year when this matter was clearly public knowledge.

I’m going to hazard a guess that it might be difficult to prove intent in cases where a business is facing multiple commitments and pays other bills ahead of IRD. The IRD might have to prove in a prosecution that the business never intended to pay the tax obligations.

That, to me, is pretty despicable behaviour.

By the way, Mikenmild, have you considered the tax position of the union employees? We’re talking here about some of the lowest-paid workers in the country. In your clarification you do it again with the expectation that Hansen should have been weeping and wailing about more kids playing soccer in New Zealand than rugby.

And you arrogantly interpreted what Hansen said. He said they (NZ Rugby) was happy with the kids in their sport. You said what he meant was, ” We don’t get the weak and sickly kids whose mothers don’t want them to get hurt so they play a sport that is not really a sport!”.

What he meant was rugby was happy with the kids playing rugby – that’s what he said and why he said it. The other stuff comes straight out of your head not his and says something of you not him.

Meh. Your critique is as off target as your initial mis-directed spray at rangitoto. As always, especially when dealing with a politician’s pronouncements – and believe me, CEO of the NZRU is probably the most political job in New Zealand! – you should always ask yourself three questions:

What did s/he say?

What did s/he mean?

So what?

And as someone involved in the grass roots of rugby I can assure you that while it is always good for kids to play any sport…it is a very serious competition for numbers as well as hearts and minds…especially for the kids with the potential to go far. Which is what I was talking about…and what Tew was most certainly implying. Bear in mind he has to give a coded assurance to the rugby community to explain what he is doing about addressing the junior player imbalance in football’s favour! I sure as hell want one!

It’s just that Steve Tew is too smart and too well-paid to say that in the unvarnished terms that I have, as it would be bad PR. But be in no doubt, he doesn’t want to lose the good players to football or especially to rugby league or any other code for that matter if he can help it. It’s his job to ensure that! The rest? Sure, the Rugby Union will co-operate with other codes where necessary to create an overall sports-participation experience…and try to make the more aggressive aspects of recruitment and competition with other codes under wraps so that the “kids enjoying sports” message is not crowded out.

But if you don’t believe that, I’ll leave you to walk unmolested in your pretty gumdrop world of happy thoughts, where no sports administrator is ever motivated by self-interest or a desire to get ahead at the expense of other codes. In the meantime, I have a harbour bridge going cheap I may be able to interest you in…

National still hell bent on taking over Local Government.

There is paper out that from initial indications, shows that National intend to give the Local Government Commission the ability to force amalgamations or whatever else they wish on supposedly democratically elected councils.

Who is driving this determined effort to take power away from the people when it is the people who pay the money and expect elected people to be accountable to ratepayers?

It looks like the whole super city setup is going to challenged which is great but at the same time ratepayers need to be awake to the shenanagins that is going on behind the scenes to silence democracy in local government.

IRD doesn’t have to prove what you did with the money mikenmild. All that IRD has to prove is that an employer deducted PAYE from staff’s wages, and did not pass it on to the IRD on the 20th of the month after. McCarten would have made it easy for IRD because he made public admissions as to his culpability, saying he made a deliberate choice to fund union campaigns rather than paying tax. In other words, he put campaigning ahead of his legal obligations as an employer.

Let’s say the local branch of McDonalds employs a whole lot of Unite Union members. The union finds out that the owner of the branch has deducted PAYE from the staff, but hasn’t passed it on to IRD, instead spending it on advertising. Do you think Unite would simply let that slide, or would the picket the branch? That, in essence, is McCarten and Unite’s situation in a nutshell.

McCarten had no legal, moral or ethical right to spend the tax money, but he thought “Fuck IRD, I’ll do it anyway”. And this is the man David Cunliffe hired in 2014 to run the “Vote Positive” campaign, almost certainly with forewarning that Nicky Hager was writing a book in an attempt to discredit John Key and National.

And I note you chose to side-step the issue of Hansen’s accountability for junior playing numbers and the explanation he has to give to his stake holders. Because – and here’s the thing – the NZ rugby community does not set out intending to lose the competitions it enters…including those with other codes, and in the main it is more successful than any other code. So why, when playing numbers translate to immediate parent participation and prospective senior player and administrators numbers…would Steve Tew ordinarily be “happy” with more kids playing football instead of rugby?! The real truth – he, like any sport should be after domination, sometimes by occasional co-operation with other sports, but ultimately by beating them in competition for players and supporters. It was the same when rugby was amateur. And that is why Tew is paid a shit-load of money compared to some local community sports development officer.

If he didn’t have that attitude, then he is the wrong guy to have as CEO of the NZRU. But then, just in the same way both captains always thank the referee and compliment his performance in their aftermatch speeches, maybe us rugby folk are just a bit more…astute in perceiving the truth and coded messages in diplomatic phrases. But “thanks to the ladies out the back for putting on the spread” is always sincere!

Also no point fining a dead beat business owner who stole off his employees, a company would have had no assets and any personal money that was slid out of the company on his way out the door was no doubt tied up in a trust somewhere and protected. Or probably bought Mighty River shares.

The Makow article I linked to above makes a convincing case that the migrant invasion is being organised by the Political Elite as a future military force to once and for all destroy Europe.

1) Arms shipments secretly coming into Europe to covertly arm them ready for the signal to rampage and genocide. At least two of these have been exposed. [I have not been able to confirm this. hm]

2) IPhones and best new Mobile phones distributed by secret intelligence services to these ‘migrants’ for free and fraudulently issued under the names of real UK and EU citizens but with false addresses with the full co-operation of the major EU/UK phone companies who are all owned and controlled by the same people who have planned and conspired in the genocide – communication is very important;

3) Detailed instructions distributed to the migrants with telephone numbers and details on support networks, and organisations to contact and where to go on arrival. All written in Arabic and with translations of phrases like guide books. This proves organisation and orchestration beyond any doubt;

4) Reports that many migrants are carrying unbelievably large sums of cash money with them which make no sense if they are destitute “refugees”;

5) Many migrants are carrying an impossibly large and diverse number of false passports and similarly expensive documents to fake and forge. This can only be due to the involvement of security and intelligence services sponsoring this invasion. (Mossad is well known for using false passports). Also, refugees coming from poor or war torn areas should not have access to the money needed to purchase such expensive fake documents – up to and more than seven forged passports each!!!

6) Europe-wide “softly softly” approach by police and refusal to investigate most crime they commit and an insistence on releasing migrant criminals even after the most appalling and serious crimes. Violent Stranger Rapists ARE NOT GRANTED BAIL!! Migrant Rapists are [freed] ALL THE TIME!! That proves this is done on orders from the very Top;

7) Co-ordinated Police action to silence indigenous resistance and opposition to this invasion. The Police can act quick when they want to but when it is some one black or immigrant, then suddenly the police can do nothing and act like they are incompetent. No, it is all intentional and on orders from ZOG.

8) The aggression and sheer hate of these recent migrants makes no sense whatsoever unless they have been specifically told to invade. The behaviour is the same from all of the new arrivals there is not even a pretense that they want help. They are openly saying that they are coming to rob and steal and openly threaten and demand what they want. That makes no sense if they are seeking shelter – it only makes sense if they are an invading army and more to the point that they know that is what they are and that they know they have been given ‘permission’ or authority from someone to be like that and so they know that the local population is unprotected and that they will not face any sanction for attacking them.

9) Significantly and NOT reported on the MSM, Very Large Numbers of these Migrants are going missing as soon as they arrive. This is not explicable on the basis that they are absconding to join family as most do not have family here (yet!?!) and nor does it make sense if they are just desperate for board and lodging as that is being made available (very nice accommodation in Sweden) but it fits much more with a covert army going off the radar until the balloon goes up…

10) Then within a short period of no more than approx ten years from right now, and probably a lot less, will these Migrants suddenly reappear and transform (not much transformation required really) into Armed Terror Squads right in our midst shooting killing disarmed White Europeans on a massive scale all with the involvement and connivance of the intelligence and security services. This may have three aims:

A) Genocide White Europeans
B) Justify a full European Police State
C) Increase hatred for Muslims/Islam
