…there is nothing yet to suggest he is a Muslim it got passed over, especially by the watchmen here at KB! But don’t worry, igm at 11:11am has got the baby-head-wielding-nanny-thing in Moscow all figured out! //

I think some of our crim-friendly judiciary could learn from this.

There are so many business frauds in NZ it is ridiculous. Petricevic being one recent high profile example; Mighty River Power Engineer; Tessa Grant of Waikato girls school and possibly the Skycity Casino; unnamed media company staffer nicks 450k- in court now; Bryers the Blue Chip prick got 80 hours community service for the lives he wrecked; et al.

Arthur Taylor is TV star !!- I have not watched and never will.
The same TV channel had their reporter obtain a gun illegally- 6 months later- no f.king action.

A former Asda boss who used £180,000 from the supermarket’s charity fund to prop up his younger lover’s ballet company has been jailed for three years.
Paul Kelly convinced the Asda Foundation Charity to hand over three blank cheques in his role as chairman, which he claimed he would give to Prince Charles to help flood victims in the South West.

But the 55-year-old, a former Government advisor who received a £160,000 salary for his role as Asda’s vice-president of corporate affairs, instead handed the cheques to the Murley Dance Company, which was run by his 36-year-old American boyfriend David Murley.

..He has now been jailed for three years after pleading guilty to seven counts of fraud.

One only needs to look at his activities to look at him sideways:
>Kelly has previously been an adviser to the Government on food policy, alcohol and obesity.
>Kelly had worked at Asda for seven years. Before joining the supermarket, he was group corporate affairs director at catering firm Compass Group.
i.e. a professional BS’er- careful what you wish for.

When you look at corporate fraud in this country and the soft approach to the directors of the failed finance companies (and senior staff who were also in the know) you might as well ‘give it a go’ on white collar crime. The risk of getting caught then being actually being penalised at a commensurate level is so small the risk is worth it. That’s rather sad IMHO.

Another example from the English paper today of action and fairly quickly compared to the NZ treacle:
Chris Ronnie, the former chief executive of JJB Sports, has been jailed for four years and banned as a company director for accepting more than £1m in bungs from suppliers.
Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith told London’s Southwark Crown Court that Mr Ronnie was guilty of a “flagrant and disgraceful breach” of his duty as boss of a public company.
Mr Ronnie ran the sports retailer between August 2007 and March 2009. JJB collapsed in 2012 with the loss of thousands of jobs.

Action on crime in NZ:
White collar crime – nobody got ‘really hurt’ so we will vacillate and go easy with next to no action;
house burglaries- yeah nah it’s OK the insurance companies will take care of it (i.e. it is a community cost with no legal resolution);
gangs and drug dealings – oh we’ll make a noise every 2 years but never really do anything – y’know the poor maori got their land stolen so it is OK for them to rebel and beat the crap out of people then become social workers when they are 35 and too old to win fights (N.B. With Mongrel Mob now in Queensland watch the authorities there address this before you ever see action in NZ – 40 years on);
drivers going 8km over the speed limit we will hammer >>and every initiative in this area results in statistically significant higher roads deaths i.e. 2010 = first year of the 4 km/hr intolerance; 2016 with a 2 months period of ‘zero tolerance’ results in massively higher road deaths.

Be honest with your kids- if they ask ‘does crime pay?’ the answer is ‘in NZ it most certainly does’.
Use the Alan Bond analogy- if you owe the bank $100,000 you have the problem; if you owe the bank $100,000,000 they have the problem. Petty stuff like speeding or blood alcohol 65 mg you get done; be a drug dealer or lose/waste more than 500k in a business and its OK.

I think the flag should be changed, but not before we become a republic. So long as the Queen is our head of state we need to have the union jack on our flag. Lets vote for a republic first then there will be a need to change the flag.
In my lifetime so far i have had four national anthems, or versions of. God save the king, god save the queen, good defend NZ (english) and god defend NZ (bilingual). No doubt the way we are going it wont belong before we have one in Levantine.

Didn’t stop Canada changing their flag/removing the Union Jack over 50 years ago. And at that time she was their and our head of state courtesy of the shared “Head of the Commonwealth” status, rather than the “Queen of New Zealand” as she is now.

This isn’t a solid argument. Most former colonies that still have the Queen as head of state don’t have the union jack on their flag. New Zealand is one of the few exceptions to maintain its colonial flag.

I wonder how the 54 MPs who defenestrated Mr Abbott are feeling as they read that news. When it’s all about the polls and nothing about core beliefs and principles you’ve got nothing to fall back on when the polls start dropping.

In this I agree with Reid. Only the totally insane would call the West’s campaign against drugs a success. Fewer would pretend that the policies come close to accomplishing what they are intended to do.

To continue on the same path indicates that either:

1) The proponents have too much face and/or money to lose by backing off.

2) The policies serve another purpose.

There are no other possible reasons.

Did you know that if you are an American under 18 years old and you use your cell phone to send a nude “selfie” of yourself to a friend, you can be convicted of manufacturing and distributing “child pornography” and sent to prison? In case you are too old to be in the loop, a “selfie” is a photo that one makes of oneself.

This is how expansively prosecutors, whose main purpose in life is to ruin as many people as possible, interpret laws passed to protect children from sexual exploitation.

Sexting—the exchange of nude photographs—is now a big thing among the 14-17 year old set, especially among females. They have transitioned from children to women and find the extraordinary change in their bodies an interesting phenomenon. Under the expansive interpretation of child pornography laws, for an under 18-year old to even possess a nude photo of herself or himself is a violation of the law. Thanks to the illegal, unconstitutional surveillence of every communication of every American sanctioned by the US government and the corrupt Supreme Court that serves the government and not the Constitution, a naked photo sent by an under-18 year-old can be intercepted and the sender prosecuted for possessing, manufacturing, and distributing child pornography.

Teenagers can have their life ruined by the government “protecting” them.

People are born into their time. As they grow and mature they have no awareness of what it was like living in previous times. Whatever they are born into is their normal. If their society has descended from liberty into tyranny, they don’t know it. They never experienced liberty.

In my lifetime I have experienced an enormous intrusion into personal life by the state. If the laws of today had applied to the generation during the 1950s practically the entire generation would have been imprisoned. As children were routinely spanked, today an act of “child abuse,” an entire generation would have grown up in Child Protective Custody while their parents rotted in prison.

Moreover, in the 1950s people controlled their lives in ways that they are no longer permitted to do. Cars didn’t beep. Construction sites didn’t beep. Quiet was normal, not a luxury. Cars with manual transmissions would start without having to push in the clutch pedal. Fights between boys were normal, and no police were called. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) provided parental input into the school system. Teachers and parents handled the problems that now become jail records. There was the occasional bully with a badge, but overall police were courteous and helpful to the public. People did not fear the police as every sensible person does today. Regulated natural monopolies gave good service at low prices. Children could be out of sight all day without danger or parental concern for children’s safety or concern that the parents would be investigated for child neglect.

Communities had neighborhood schools. You went to school with your own class. In the South you were segregated by economic class. Parents and teachers cooperated in producing educated students aware of citizenship responsibilities, which included holding public officials accountable, not worshipping at their feet.

It was a different world, and a better one.

Today’s culture is totally different. Today childhood hardly exists. It has been compressed into a few years. At an early age females are enculturated into projecting a sexual persona. Makeup comes at an early age. Girls dress provocatively. They are constantly exposed to sexual images. They see the attention that scantily attired women and porn stars receive. They learn that this is the way to get attention. They sexually mature at an earlier age today than in the 1950s. Yet the age of sexual consent has been raised to 18. This is an absurdity. The stupidity of legislators discredits democracy and paves the way for the emerging dictatorship.

I used to believe in progress, in improvements in society and its care, as that is what I initially experienced. But change set in. What I see now is re-enserfment of the bulk of the population. Reforms during the 1930s that made capitalism functional have been repealed.

The opposition to re-enserfment is weak. In place of revolutionary leaders and thoughts, there is acceptance of domination by the state. It is called Patriotism. And Patriotism means support of the oppressive government. Anyone who chooses the Constitution over the government is an unpatriotic anti-American, an incipient domestic extremist if not a terrorist.

The best way to get beat up or murdered by the police is to assert your constitutional rights. Like prosecutors and the executive branch, the last thing police want to hear is that there are limits on their power. Thus the objection of the New Mexico governor and attorney general to the legislation that protects teenagers from expansive interpretation of child pornography laws.

The war on drugs has been fought and the outcome decided. Drugs won.

And the War on Terror is being fought, but the outcome is already decided. Terror won, because now both sides practice terror assiduously (i.e. The West are the founding fathers of the tactic, and the East is belatedly catching up: a great convergence, if you will).

I think the other issue was that raised by Rand Paul. That is how petty offences committed by members of the Black Community is causing conflict with Black Comunities as City Councils use the Police to enforce those offences. Things escalate. Look at how one guy died (choked) and all over because he sold single cigarettes
It’s also creating financial stress amongst a segment which can least afford the fines.
I’m not a great fan of Pauls but reckon his view that the Justice system should be reformed to prevent this has some validity.
I note that in NY, when the Police got pissed at De Blasio and decided to stop enforcing the small stuff, the City lost millions and millions of income. The backlog in the Courts cleared and more Public Defenders had more free time for more serious offences.

In the 20s it was Chinese opium smokers, through to the 40s when it became uppity black people, the 60s hippies, the 80s through the 00s black people and with the advent of Ice, white trash up to the current time. Powered by America which is run and has been run by people who have used all the drugs that they prosecute others for.

The Crown made the right decision in not prosecuting Heather unPleasant Allan. The Crown is now in a position to scrap the licensing of firearms as the criteria for possession appears to be “sinister intent’.

No need for a licence , just have a good intent. And fraud is OK too ,as long as there’s no “sinister intent” .

Well done Heather, well done Plod , well done Crown law. You,ve just saved the taxpayer millons in licensing bureaucracy.

I agree, ABS. I have been involved at a reasonably high level with the “war on drugs”, and I can tell you that all it has done is to give money and power to organised crime and made an awful lot of otherwise law-abiding citizens into criminals. That the say so on our approach to drugs lies in the hands of a man who wears a bowtie and isn’t an obstetrician speaks volumes for the fact that it is in the too hard basket. The whole issue needs to be looked at again, not from the perspective of making anything described as a drug illegal, but from a proper analysis of harm to the community. Alcohol would come out the worst by miles. And I don’t do drugs, but I love inhaling booze.

The biggest bubble in the world is the one we live in without being able to see it. It’s the bubble of government promises that government will not be able to fulfill. When it bursts, multiple generations will find their expectations destroyed. The politicians at ground zero had better be saying their prayers and putting their earthly affairs in order, because they aren’t going to last very long after that bubble bursts and reality sets in.

Unfortunately the pension collapse in the US has already started. Years of poor returns and young workers not seeing any future in the pension fund aren’t contributing. There are some unions that require the contributions but those won’t stop the collapse.

There are currently pension funds that have had to cut payments. So there are a number of recent retirees that have suddenly found their income cut. These funds are well managed. The poorly managed funds will abruptly run out of money causing major cash flow problems.

If you look at Japan their pension funds are already financially broken from their ZIRP policy.

So what we are facing is a future with the largest retired population with very little spending money and a rapidly shrinking economy. However what we will experience is people working their entire life until they die with no retirement, but at least the economy will function under those conditions.

Do they look at themselves and note they don’t report news? Jerry Springer was more genuine than they are.
The ex-tardtown clown (Richard Long – that paid liar) who told people that Hanover Finance was hunky dory is part of this lot well and truly.
The people have spoken and most states returned Donald Trump as preferred GOP candidate.
The tardtowns are part of the media ergo are part of the problem being addressed ‘by the people’.
The tards don’t like it esp. when Trump got away with calling out Megyn Kelly. It was a strategy that worked. Boo Hoo.

Both tardtown channels only exist because of the $70 million per annum paid by taxpayers via NZ on Air. Without that massive subsidy neither would be here. Not long to go for these relics I would think. Yee Ha.

Yesterday on General Debate I recommended a movie. My post got a lot of downticks. I accept that my taste in movies might not be acceptable. There will be no more movie recommendations from me.

Tauhei actually it’s currently reading 6/4 so were I you I’d ignore others. Even if it wasn’t that, who cares.

I hope to recommend another movie on 17th March. It gives one an unusual understanding of the Arab world and how stuffed up it is.
Caution; no sex scenes. Damn it.
The plight of a woman who works on the other side of the city but the only chauffeur (no woman drivers there) she can afford is an unpleasant oaf. And other things that teach you a little about a weird regime.

Sad story in the herald about an old duck who died in a car crash, seems to have lost control leaving home, hit the gas and through a fence, rolling the car. So ugly and sad all round.

What is also ugly and sad, but to a different degree, is this sentence from the story

“The plasterer said the scene wasn’t a nice one to witness and felt sorry for two young gym workers had been out delivering flyers on the street when they also the woman in her vehicle”

Kowtow 7.17pm. The decision by Police not to Prosecute Sopers child bride is no surprise. The person making the decision is a nice guy who was never really a true front line cop. Unfortunately this is becoming so common these days as there is more enforcement for those that drive 4 k over the limit. Priorities !!!!

RF, DPA should not have been charged, we have very little journalism left and it was a story, they did enough to cover her arse with lawyers etc.

But I agree, the public perception of targeting 4km/h over the limit vs theft/violence/sexual/fraud etc etc is hard to argue

There are places and times where the honest and sincere quest for knowledge is prized above petty and cynical point-scoring. In the main, Kiwiblog is not one of them! 😉

But hang in there – once people see you are indeed sincere you will be accorded honourary “neutral” status along with the likes of placid sages such as SGA and Odakyu-sen. I would usually include Maggy Wassilieff in that category, but she has one irascible gadfly of a critic (currently on the naughty seat) who doesn’t respect her “non-aligned” status.

So, what’s the problem with not getting enough sleep? Well, latest research the effect of the lack of sleep and weight gain shows that the obsession with trying to stop obesity is doomed to fail until the focus is taken off side-effects, such as eating junk food and drinking fizzy drinks, and more intelligently investigating why people are overindulging in the first place.

People indulge because they like it. Why do people have sex or play video games ? Hey – it’s fun. It’s fun eating food. Modern people are disgusting shameless slobs, fat as anything – no problem. Yeah – they’re just not getting enough sleep – that’s what it is. Sure, sure. Junk food is a side-effect ? It sure is – it effects both sides. Makes them super-blobby hanging off the body in grotesque slabs of flab.

In the last few years, I’ve discovered that being low in iron, magnesium, Vit D and B12 affects sleep as well. Lately, it’s only since I’ve started taking dessicated liver tablets that I’ve been able to stop taking Remifemin for sleep.

hahahaha – what a load of complete and utter old cobblers !! Some people really, *really* need to feel special, don’t they ? That’s all in your head mate – you’ve nailed it down to specific variation in mineral and vitamin levels affecting sleep ? Sounds like a very scientific experiment. Of course – that’s easy to measure vitamins and minerals in anyone’s system at any given time and then say they’re too low or too high or I’ve noticed such and such – oooo – didn’t sleep as well last night – must be low on vitamin C. Only got 30 sunshine minutes instead of 45. Far out – really ?

Overall diet affects overall health including sleep pattern and habits. For anyone getting good nutrition to claim they can nail it down exactly to one or two small nutrient variables – imagine lying there thinking – ooo – this is taking a bit longer than I’d hoped – maybe the old iron level is on the low side. I think I’ll get up and take care of that with a slice of shaved ham right now. Please !! Ridiculous. It doesn’t work like that. If you’re getting all the vitamins and minerals you need in your diet – then – that simply ain’t it. And ‘knowing’ your level of each one in your body ? Um – yeah, whatever.

You might’ve seen some Dunedin cafe banning disposable cups.
What gets me – I’m reading the comments. It looks to me like ‘different commenters’ are on an advertising campaign to promote the non-term ‘keep cup’. So, that’s a keep cup then ? Is it . . .a farking **cup** ffs ?

That’s right – a ‘keep cup’ is a cup. So firstly – is that a deliberate effort to ‘educate the masses’ and greenspam the comments ?

And secondly – keep cup is an infantile stupid kindergarten term. Ok – I care about waste – I don’t care about waste. Do they have to use farking baby oo-ee goo gaa style lingo to describe everything ? Hello girls and boys – look at meeeee and my keepy cup. The nice lady is going to make me a frothy toffee coffee – that’s right it’s going to be oh so yummy in my tummy !! Please. What a bunch of noddy dribbling gimps.

And then thirdly – so, we’re here on earth for a few seconds or something. Oh – don’t use anything, that’s a waste of resources. What are you allowed to use then ? At what point are you ‘not wasteful’ and ‘ok’ ? You could tell these idiots that they could really save resources and not buy coffee from a cafe. Drink water. The beans have to come from somewhere – using land. The business still uses resources. Stop encouraging the business to use resources – don’t give them money. Hey – now *that* would save some resources !! The keepy cuppy used resources to make too. It’s not really that green.

And nothing is really that green. People aren’t green. Some are a bit more green than others. The greenest thing humans can do is cut the number of resource-using-up humans. Depopulation. I wonder how much vehicle fuel will be used by NZ Inc tomorrow ? I mean – how bloody awful is that ? Fancy using up a non-renewable resource. We’re a nation of greedy so and sos using up all the fuel. Let’s just stop or ban or heavily restrict fuel use. Let’s party like it’s 1816. What on earth would make these cretins happy ? It’s a drop in the ocean. You need food. You need stuff. It uses up resources. Whatever people do – whether you try to tip-toe a resource footprint or disco dance one – the world economy marches on at the same pace towards oblivion regardless. There’s seven billion pairs of footprints on the planet. And climbing. It’s impossible to look after 7 billion now or ever, so why not make it 8-10 billion ? Makes perfect sense !! The extra tens of millions of people each year increase global resource demand by a lot more than any ‘resource saving’ being attempted by the tiny feel-gooder crowd in New Zealand.

I take it that all of the do-gooders are also ‘saving the planet’ by not constantly buying lots of other consumables, like – I don’t know – latest smartphone, tablet, fashion clothes and shoes, appliances, jewellery . . fittingly the hypocrisy is usually within easy walking distance. Using the hairdressers ? Getting tattoos ? Haircare and beauty products ? Soap and toothpaste ? Taking a shower every day ? In the old days people had tank water and a bath once a week. Fancy a sixty second daily luke-warm quick spray ? How does that ‘save’ planet earth ? To me that just means you’ve got too many people in one place and something’s wrong. Sixty seconds each – lots to get through. Well – don’t have twenty people and one shower then. Instead of having a planet of 20 billion miserable people eating just cabbage all ‘saving the earth’ – aim for a sustainable number of *people*. Too many as it is. Folks with the keepy cups – some of them could really save the planet and go childless or just the one. Yeah – nah. Goodness no – got to have my two-three kiddies. Yeah – the keepy cups – really just lip service.
