Thanks, LM. To be honest it is usually for my own benefit, as if you can find a useful and challenging interlocutor, it helps clarify your own thoughts, especially on complex and nuanced issues. Sorry if, in challenging you extra hard on…ahem, certain matters of theology, that intent was not clear.

That’s ok, I got over it. You always looked like a man in need of an argument to me.

But part of me will miss Kea. Anyone who can accuse you in one post of being a rabid-Zionist, and the next an anti-Semite Nazi has a certain manic amusement quality! ?

It does get old very fast.

I’m hoping my wódka lure will have some effect, though.

(2) Whoa – it’s that time again – let’s see what those decile one munters are filling up their big bad trollies with aside from 4-6 kids under five . . .

(i) $70, 20 items. b/b orig cut com, freyas s/l b (nice), grif bikkies 3 for deal, nutrigrain (sugary), lamb chops bbq – $12, full fat milk 3l, roto chicken $8, TT vanilla 2l. They like meat – could be worse

(ii) This next one’s the shizzle my nizzle. $396, 89 items. bbq burger patties – $20, lots of high end veg and fruit, sure sure, beef, $24, pre-cooked sausage, $9, chicken thighs, $24, , more beef $15, fresh up crisp green $4, Doritos 3 for deal. pizza bases x 2, $6, Tulsi butter chicken x 2 $8, butter, cheese $8.50, full fat milk 2l x2, cad dairy milk $3, champagne ham $10 !! Rolls French crusty $3.80, sour dough bread $4.

I’m putting the prices so you also get some idea of quantity – who are these people ? Big spenders on all the ‘in moderation’ food groups – let’s keep rocking – tasti meganuts x2, roasted almonds, toast bread four loaves N/fresh, sprite 2.25, fresh up app/orange $4, hamburger buns, rolled oats (still high carb), MILO CEREAL – hahahaha – I’d add cold Milo milk to it – why the hell not ? It just keeps on going mate – sheesh – I’m getting nowhere here – san up & go choc 6p $7, coffee, weetbix, Milo (there’s the Milo milk), s/f canol oil 2l, rice bran oil, tomato sauce *two litre*, arn shapes, hellers shaved hot p $4.70.

Somehow – I don’t think they’re going to starve. Or miss any meals. You’ll turn into a frickin Dorito.

Ah yeah – twenty minutes after the shop closed a large Island woman turned up . . .’but can I just go in quickly and get da milk ?’. No – no, you cannot. That’s the decile one mentality – can’t think beyond their own dumb little world. The checkout staff start cashing up after the last customer and close everything down – let alone twenty minutes after closing time. Who are these people – no shame, just trying it on without a hope in hell. I’d guess she’d just get milk – and then want to ‘just get’ some coconut cream, corned beef and everything else on the list – pffffff – get knotted. Otherwise – go to the service station for milk.

(3) Finally – something good on TV. I loved the Lego Movie. During the latter stages even the ads dried up significantly. Did that really happen ? I know. It really, really did. I notice that TV2 are now also giving viewers the finger with programme promos during programme content. Took them a while to follow TV3’s lead. Fuckwits.

So, you’re disputing the assertion that Jesus son of Mary never claimed to be the son of God, by quoting the John chap’s claim? Dodgy.

Nope. The immediate context leading up to the Gospel’s concluding summation demonstrate Jesus himself owned the title, as follows (the story of doubting Thomas and the appearance of the resurrected Jesus):

John 20: 24-31

“24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.“

Muslim apologists attempt to claim the refrain by Thomas “my Lord and my God!” is an exclamation using the titles of his Jewish deity, in much the same way Muslims readily exclaim “my God”, or swear by anything and everything as per the example of the Koran. However, this is, yet again, a preposterous claim because, as per the Jewish piety in which the incident occurs, it is a breach of the third commandment, and therefore blasphemy.

And if, as per the obvious context of Thomas’ statement, it is not an accurate summation of Jesus’ identity, then it is also blasphemous…for which Jesus was put to death just over a week before.

John 19:7

“The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.””

So if it is not true, then one would expect Jesus to immediately correct his disciple as he does elsewhere in the Gospels whenever they were wrong (e.g., as Jesus did with Thomas in John 14:5-6, and also his rebuke of Simon Peter in Matthew 16: 22-23).

Instead, the acceptance of Thomas’ worship and the confirmation from the lips of Jesus himself (“Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed”)…is Christ’s acknowledgement he is indeed (the son of) God…

…and the Gospel writer spells out the implication for all readers in the verse (20:31) I originally quoted.
