The Intercept Fires Reporter for Fabrications

“The Intercept, an online left-wing news outlet founded by eBay billionaire Pierre Omidyar and edited by, among others, Glenn Greenwald, has announced the firing of reporter Juan Thompson (pictured) for a series of known fabrications reminiscent of Stephen Glass, The New Republic reporter fired in 1998 for serial fabrications. According to the site’s editor-in-chief Betsy Reed, Thompson’s sins include both invented people and quotes.

The Intercept’s note on the firing informs readers:

An investigation into Thompson’s reporting turned up three instances in which quotes were attributed to people who said they had not been interviewed. In other instances, quotes were attributed to individuals we could not reach, who could not remember speaking with him, or whose identities could not be confirmed. In his reporting Thompson also used quotes that we cannot verify from unnamed people whom he claimed to have encountered at public events. Thompson went to great lengths to deceive his editors, creating an email account to impersonate a source and lying about his reporting methods.

Fully retracted is a story about Scott Roof, cousin of Dylann Roof, the racist terrorist who murdered nine black churchgoers last year in South Carolina. The story quotes the cousin as ascribing a motive to Dylann Roof involving a girl he liked dating a black man.

Scott Roof does not appear to exist.

Four stories have been corrected, one attacking Donald Trump and his supporters.

All five of the redacted/corrected stories involve race.”

While Fonterra management continue to act like they are in the 19th century perhaps they should be paid 19th century wages.

Perhaps the senior executives at Fonterra could be paid Year 1870 wages instead of over $500k pa if their thinking belongs to that era. Say 180 Pounds pa or $360 in today’s money p.a.
They are back up to 22 of them on over one million a year after dropping that back to 17.

Commodity price down sharply again. Fonterra Action Plan: Make like an ostrich.

For 15 years they have been the epitome of a poorly run organisation. Norgate was a thug who was marched out quick smart. Ferrier seemed a nice guy but nice guys come second. He got a helluva golden handshake for all that. His past may have been sugar-coated but all he did was just keep things grinding along like a good clerk with a spell of good timing. Spierings is just plain bad. How is the one Billion dollar demand from Danone coming along Theo? And who will pay that price? . Not the salary-man. Eh trouble at mill and dairy factory.

The continued reliance on producing a basic commodity and allowing others to make a profit like NZ Natural Ice-cream (sold off shore last year by Diane Forman to a Chinese company ! ) ; Nestle; and Danone is a failed methodology. So clever for a 3 three year old but a 15 year old!
Method: Produce milk. Extract the water out. Put the remaining powder in 25kg paper bags. Sell it to someone else to make some money from. What retards. The old public servants at the Dairy Board were sharper than these overpaid wastrels.

Fonterra might be big on dehydrating milk but it is small on creative thinking.
Where are the value-add products this was going to bring: Ice-cream; yoghurt; special cheeses; nutraceuticals ???

This extract from Diane Foreman book ‘In the Arena’ tells us a lot.
…But when she got the offer from the Chinese buyer, Foreman tried to approach Fonterra to see if the co-op would be interested in buying it.
“The response was no. What I don’t understand is why a brand like NZ Natural, which is incredibly strong, would appeal to a Chinese textile manufacturer out of the middle of China and not to Fonterra”.

Fonterra might be seen as a big entity but is it a price taker not a price maker. That is what happens when you are essentially a commodity trader.

To hell with the USA cry baby stuff over not selling to Russia. If Russia want to buy our products lets sell them. We did sell to USSR in the 1970s with the Dairy Board and under Muldoon. Tell the yanks: It’s not personal, it’s just business.

I would like to see Nathan Guy step up here and say > Fonterra you were established under an Act of Parliament with privileges. Give us a decent plan to execute within three years or we dismantle you< That won't happen of course as it would mean doing something.
Meantime the dairy farmers are getting creamed.

I went to book my car in for a service for Saturday to be told that the centre was closed for Maori Grievances Day, fair enough.

In a business that is silly enough to apply the holiday surcharge, which day is the surcharge applied to, the Saturday being the actual day, or the Monday?

Don’t worry Happy. The policy will be implemented gradually, so the onus on paying for it will fall on the next National government, which will have no trouble finding the money (see interest-free loans, Working for Families, KiwiSaver).

Yes. Fiscally neutral according to treasury. In fact over time it probably resulted in the government stealing even more overall tax due to the increased economic growth (verified by the total tax take = theft).

The Death of a Swedish Town: How leftist ideals annihilated Mölndal.

” After delivering his laugh line that Bernie Sanders would make “a good candidate for president — of Sweden,” Senator Marco Rubio declared during the last Republican presidential debate on January 28th that “We don’t want to be Sweden, we want to be the United States of America.”

More than simply saying that we do not want to be Sweden, we need to learn from Sweden’s tragic mistake of becoming an open border sanctuary country for refugees from some of the most dangerous areas of the world. According to the United Nations Refugee Agency, “between 2010 and 2014 Sweden received, on average, the highest number of asylum-seekers compared to its national population.”

Swedes enthusiastically embraced their open door policy as an article of faith. According to an autumn 2014 Eurobarometer survey, “No fewer than 72 percent of Swedes said they were either fairly positive or very positive towards immigration from countries outside the European Union.”

Case in point is the Swedish town of Mölndal. With open arms, the town accepted more unaccompanied refugee minors than anywhere else in Sweden, mainly teenagers whom had arrived in Sweden without their families. Last autumn, the town was welcoming 400 refugee minors every week. The total for all of 2015 exceeded 4000.

However, what may have begun as a well-intentioned humanitarian gesture to provide places to live and support to refugee minors, has caused the town to descend into utter lawlessness. The longtime residents of the town, a suburb of Gothenburg, Sweden’s second largest city, do not feel safe anymore for good reason. And the lawlessness has spilled over to Gothenburg itself.

One Gothenburg police officer with more than three decades of experience told MailOnline that there were “violent gangs roaming around the streets and the use of knives and other weapons have become normal, rather than a rarity as it used to be.” Robberies, violent assaults and sexual harassment of girls are becoming more commonplace. The officer identified the gang members as mainly young men from North Africa. “They will do anything to get money – steal a person’s wallet, iPhone, jewellery (sic),” he added. “And then they will attack their victim and kick them half to death.”

Now, after a fatal stabbing, Mölndal, the most welcoming place for teenage refugees in Sweden, is beginning to seriously grapple with the tragic consequences of its open door policy.”

Why the Left Can’t Understand Islam: Learning the truth about Islam would destroy the Left.

” The left’s greatest intellectual error is its conviction that the world can be divided into a binary power struggle in which both sides agree on the nature of the struggle, but disagree on the outcome.

For leftists of a certain generation, it was class. Marx began the Communist Manifesto by laying out a primal class struggle throughout human history. For Marxists, everything in the world could be broken down to a class struggle with the wealthy oppressors on one side and the oppressed on the other.

It didn’t matter that this model didn’t fit a reality in which Communists leaders came from wealthy backgrounds and their opponents were just as likely to be poor peasants. To the left, everything is defined by the model. Reality is an inconvenience that is suppressed with gulags and firing squads.

Today the variable is identity politics. Everything must be intersectional. There are those who stand on the right side of history, in favor of abortion, gay marriage and illegal immigration. Everyone who isn’t on board is a racist, even if they’re black or Latino, a sexist, even if they’re female, or a homophobe, even if they’re gay. Once again, reality doesn’t matter. The binary struggle is the model for everything.

The left believes that there is a binary struggle over the future of humanity with only two sides. It does not understand how the right actually thinks and it has no room for understanding equally compelling belief systems that operate outside this model.

That’s where Islam comes in. Or doesn’t.

The left has never been able to understand religion. It’s not so much secular or atheistic as it is consumed by a compelling belief system of its own which leaves no room for religious conviction.

It cannot understand anything in terms of what it is. It can only understand things in terms of itself. The left cannot understand religion on its own terms, only in terms of how the religion fits into the left.

Unable to understand religion, the left assigns it a place based on its alignment in the struggle. Is it a reactionary force that supports the existing order of a progressive force that opposes it? Is it working with the ruling classes or the oppressed? Is it on the side of the left or on the side of the right?

Islam is racist, sexist, xenophobic and homophobic.

The Muslim Brotherhood, which has become the left’s closest Islamic ally, was politically influenced by Nazi Germany. Its leaders were outraged by the end of the Caliphate’s feudalism and maintain extensive business networks around the world. They incite riots against minorities and seek to establish a theocracy.

If there’s any Muslim organization that should be a textbook reactionary, fascist and fundamentalist group, it’s the Muslim Brotherhood. But instead the left cuddles up with the violent hate group. Why?

Because the Muslim Brotherhood in the West is aligned with their progressive causes. Therefore it can’t be reactionary. If the Brotherhood were aligned with conservatives, then it would be the enemy.

And so liberals don’t care what the Koran says. The Koran means nothing to them, just as the Bible means nothing to them. Religion is either on the side of social justice or it isn’t. Since Muslims are part of their glorious intersectional rainbow coalition, then Islam must be a good religion.

It’s that stupidly simple. And no amount of Koran quotes will change that.”

He was allowed to bring his own chair to court for his extradition hearing because (so he claimed) he has back issues. Now, I’m not a chiropractor, but you’d think that people with back issues (and weight issues) wouldn’t be having much sex. The poor NZ taxpayers have endured enough at the hands of Dotcom – the last thing we need is an ACC claim caused by dangerous bedroom activities.

Why the Left Can’t Understand Islam: Learning the truth about Islam would destroy the Left.

Shawn, a very good post also by one of the deputy leaders of the Pegida group, who peacefully protest against Islam in their countries and have to be protected by the Police themselves against leftist bully-boys who use violence against them. The Left and Islam are joined at the hip. Worth reading the whole thing.

Pegida, meaning Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West, began in Dresden in 2014. The group seeks to halt the mass migration of Muslims to the Western world, as it fears the growing influence of Islam.

Needless to say, media coverage of Pegida has been less than flattering. This is hardly a surprise when the German Chancellor had described them as people of hatred. Here in the UK, – BBC coverage is similarly disparaging. Routinely referring to Pegida as “far-Right”, and those who oppose them as “anti-fascist”, the image of Pegida as a crowd of racist thugs is reinforced again and again.

I recently became deputy leader of the newly formed official UK branch of Pegida, and so set out to attend my first rallies. I was completely stunned by what I saw. I was stunned not only by the behaviour of the so-called “anti-fascists”, but at the scope of the lie we have been told. The fact that decent people carry on protesting in the face of such lies is a testament to their courage and commitment.

My first rally was in Copenhagen. Myself, Tommy Robinson and Paul Weston went there to help with the launch of Pegida Denmark – led by Tania Groth.

Behind a banner reading “For Freedom” we set out on a short walk through Copenhagen’s city centre. We walked with men and women of all ages. It was not an all-white affair, and it certainly wasn’t a group of football hooligans or neo-Nazis. These were decent ordinary people who are desperately concerned, as I am, about the changing face of this continent – change that is likely to be irrevocable and to make us significantly less safe and less free.

While we walked through Copenhagen, we were heavily guarded by an excellent Danish police force. It was perfectly clear from the outset what the role of the police was to be – to protect us from violent attack by “anti-fascists”. There wasn’t a single act of aggression from Pegida marchers. There was no shouting or baiting, all of this came exclusively from the black-clad leftists lining the streets. If Angela Merkel really wants to see people with “hate in their hearts”, she ought to join a Pegida rally and see just what brutes we are up against.

Two days later, we were in Dresden to speak at their weekly gathering. This was an enormous crowd comprised of men and women of all ages, no Nazis, no thugs, no one that would cause the slightest bit of alarm. There was no violence, no threats, no intimidation. Yet again, the role of the police was to protect us from the “anti-fascists”.

This is an extraordinary situation we are in. Leaders all over Europe continue to change our continent beyond all recognition and label those of us who object as immoral, as monsters. A complicit media sustains this falsehood by dutifully labelling Pegida “far-Right” and the thugs who threaten us as “anti-fascists”.

We are living in a Europe of two realities – actual reality and the one manufactured by our leaders.

Those who live in actual reality are demonised as a matter of course, in an attempt to frighten the public in to believing what they know isn’t true, because otherwise they’ll find themselves labelled “far-Right”.

Our leaders are putting on a show. Their lies are fantastic and fly in the face of all evidence.

So now we approach the launch event of Pegida UK, which will take place in Birmingham on February 6th. I am optimistic. I hope that the leftist thugs will leave us alone. I hope that racists and neo-Nazis will leave us alone. If they do, we will have a peaceful march and rally and will express our opposition, as is our democratic right, to the growing Islamisation of our country and continent.

We cannot let left-wing thugs defeat us or frighten us away. The intent of the leftist fascists is to create an atmosphere so toxic that ordinary decent people will be scared to attend. We can’t let them do it.

Iowa Strengthens Republicans, Weakens Democrats: Bad news for the Left and good news for the GOP.

“Iowa taught two hard election lessons tonight. You can’t win without organization and you can’t win without enthusiasm.

Hillary Clinton came into Iowa with all the organization in the world, but none of the enthusiasm. It will take time to determine whether she managed to eke out a tiny victory against a senescent Socialist, but her shrill speech and deranged expression, eyes wild, draped in blood-red, were not those of a winner.

Bernie Sanders had poor organization, but plenty of enthusiasm. And that paid off. 43% of Iowa caucus goers identified as Socialists and 53% as politically correct. No matter how far to the left Hillary rushed, she couldn’t narrow that enthusiasm gap because she is fundamentally inauthentic.

Organization may have bought her a narrow win. Maybe. But it can’t buy her enthusiasm. And that will be a big problem for her in a general election.

On the Republican side of the dial, enthusiasm without organization also proved to be a disaster. Trump’s campaign had plenty of enthusiasm and was ahead in the polls, but it lacked the organization to capitalize on the enthusiasm and all the free publicity. Rubio had some organization and enthusiasm and came in third. Ted Cruz had the best combination of organization and enthusiasm and came in first.

This outcome is bad news for Democrats and good news for Republicans.

Republican turnout in Iowa has shattered records. Ted Cruz picked up more Iowa caucus votes than any other candidate ever received despite the crowded field of candidates. But a large turnout benefited a number of the frontrunners, including Trump, Rubio and Carson. Despite some of the uglier moments in the campaign, the enthusiasm can be seen in the strong turnout. If this trend continues in the general election, this will not be a Romney year in which Republicans stay home and let the Democrat win.”

It’s not a speed camera at the bottom of the Wainui hill, it is a camera to take the details of all those who exit the valley of the doomed (and lets face it, most are left wing bludgers and all round general losers) and to track those same people as they go about their day. It is a crime prevention measure.
