I see Penny’s infamy is being recognised on other blogs. Noone, it seems, wants anything to do with her. I wonder, therefore, if she fits the person description of Mayor of Auckland. The role requires her to articulate and promote a vision for Auckland. She must provides leadership and ensure effective communication between Auckland Council and the people of Auckland. Does she fit the bill? Let’s have a look.

Penny has been asked by Nostradamus to state her vision for the city but refuses.
She will have to establish a relationship of trust and confidence with Stephen Town but insead, she is suing him. I also seem to recall her slagging him for being a member of a group of citizens intent on promoting Auckland. He has become a pariah as a result because some of them are businessmen and businessmen are evil. Even when they are women.
She has been kicked out of a number of council meetings and charged with trespass. She has been convicted on at least one occasion and got off on others on technicalities.
She has been sued at least twice by the Council to recover rates and still wont pay despite enjoying the benefit of all of the infrastructure for which rates are levied.
She has been kicked out of court for meddling in litigation contrary to the litigation interests of the people she purported (I like that word) to represent and was told she was not welcome back.
She has been told by a judge that her self-endowed moniker ” publicwatchdog” does not give her any greater right to attend meetings than Joe Blow.
She has been told by a judge that her self-endowed moniker “publicwatchdog” does not lift her above the usual legal requirement that she pays security for costs on an appeal.
Another judge has said that a statement she made in court was neither credible nor genuine. Same judge said she was being hypocritical in advancing her purported (there it goes again) freedoms at the expense of the freedoms of those whom she says she will look after.
She fell out with Occupy Auckland group not long after purporting (sheesh) to represent the group. There also seems to be some dissatisfaction over some missing money although the rights and wrongs of that are unclear.
Did I read that she was turfed out of transparency international?
She has been banned from Whaleoil (which some might regard as a badge of honour but the whaleoil readership no doubt forms a significant part of her constituency.
She intends to have a group of secret squirrels, answerable only to her, looking over everyone’s shoulder and scrutinising every last cent spent.
She may have issues with the official council auditor (The Auditor-General) whom she has labelled corrupt and unfit for office.
She has monumentally pissed off the political right ( judging by comments on this blog and her ban from Whaleoil).
She has monumentally pissed off the political left judging by comments on the Standard.
She regards business as the enemy – troughers corrupting her 1950s view of how a council should run.
How she will establish a working relationship with the government is beyond me. She has maligned minister after minister. She tried to proscute the PM for offences involving dishonesty and lost on every single point ( and the PM did not even have to show up). She has repeatedly called the PM corrupt, maligned his career, advanced suggestions that he was part of a conspiracy with international banks to achieve open cast mining by instigating the Pike River disaster and generally depicted the PM as an undesirable working contrary to the country’s interest in preference to his own.

I gues she ticks all the boxes, then.
