In Defense of Zionism.

The often reviled ideology that gave rise to Israel has been an astonishing historical success.

“They come from every corner of the country—investment bankers, farmers, computer geeks, jazz drummers, botany professors, car mechanics—leaving their jobs and their families. They put on uniforms that are invariably too tight or too baggy, sign out their gear and guns. Of course nobody would expect such a dopey bunch to figure out that it’s hard for criminals to engage in criminal activity when they’re locked up.

Boo hoo, if it was up to me he would be out of a job quick smart. His and the family’s commission are both a waste of taxpayers money and this can be laid squarely at the feet of the useless liabore whore Peter Dunne.

What about this guy? Not sexual misconduct, but there are only a handful of charter schools. There seems to be no good reason to suppose that the (small) incidence of teacher misconduct would be any lower at charter schools.

I see Brian Rudman is moaning about the flag process in the Herald, focusing in particular on the point that there weren’t any DESIGNERS on the panel.

These DESIGNERS really have to ask themselves what they are saying by harping on this point. That they are incapable of winning a design competition unless their friends are among the judges? That the choice of something that is supposed to represent all of us should be a matter for a small elite only? That they couldn’t design something that has popular appeal, or that popular appeal isn’t a relevant consideration in the design of a national flag?

They had every opportunity, as did we all, to meet the panel, to make the case as to what the panel should be looking for, and to listen to conversations about what people wanted in a flag design. If they didn’t take those opportunities, or if they did and still failed to persuade the panel of their points or come up with something that would meet the design brief, then that is nobody’s fault but their own.

Mr Binnie told the Herald the Government should take its lead from the court of public opinion and compensate Mr Bain for wrongful imprisonment.

This is a comment that suggests two things –
1) Canadian Judge Ian Binnie has not ever read any kiwiblog thread on Bain, and
2) Ian Binnie has not at all followed the “change the flag referendum”

As already suggested by Griff, I hope DPF shortly puts up a Bain post and that can go to about the usual 800 comments without totally inundating General Debate with Binnie’s “court of public opinion”.

Take this statement to the charter school I was at yesterday and give it to the kids there for critical analysis. (And the bit with the implication that teachers in non-charter schools are perverts too.)

With their skills and discrimination, a bit of scrutiny and dissection, the 14/15 year olds would likely conclude that the statements are patent nonsense constructed by some rabid fanatic.

When I was in Israel (1989-90) there were was the Lebanon civil war. In one incident (near the Israeli border as it turned out) where an entire bus of people were killed.
The reason….

Who, I wonder, leaked the draft of Ian Callinan’s Bain report to the media. It would probably be someone with a vested interest in the matter, quite possibly a financial interest.

On that basis, it is not unreasonable to suggest that a former All Black fullback with a close connection to the case, or someone close to him may be “not innocent beyond a reasonable doubt”.

And FWIW, I concur with Mr Callinan’s assessment of Bain’s guilt or innocence. He should be grateful for his freedom, and he should live out the rest of his life without pushing his luck any further.

If retired Canadian judge Ian Binnie truly believes that matters such as compensation for David Bain should be decided in the “court of public opinion”, then Judith Collins was right to have his report reviewed, and Amy Adams was right to seek a further report. Binnie is behaving like a spoiled child.

There are two problems with this. The first is that there is no such thing as a “Palestinian.” The entire concept of a Palestinian people is a fraud. The second is that creating a Palestinian state will not bring peace. It will only create an armed terrorist state.

And the 1976 All Blacks still complain they were robbed by the South African refs…?!

A Christchurch radio station has banned Max Key’s new single, saying any DJ who plays it will be “pulled out of the studio by the ponytail”

A Facebook post by alternative music station RDU also threatened to cancel the show of any DJ who played Forget You, the debut single by the Prime Minister’s son.

“We here at RDU have officially banned the new Max Key single Forget You. This is an Anti-TPPA zone (Tune’s Piss Poor Aye) and anyone caught playing the single will be pulled out of the studio by the ponytail and their show will be cancelled,” the post read.

The Herald’s obsession with Max Key is becoming almost stalker-like. Earlier this week, there was an “endorsement” of Key Jnr’s radio programme by none other than Herr Schmitz. And yesterday,there was the most bizarre review of Key Jnr’s DJ hour you could ever want to read from none other than that master or sarcasm (which I was taught at high school was the lowest form of wit), Steve Braunias.

Of course, imagine the Left’s outrage if the same sort of media obsession was happening with Andrew Little’s wife or son. The Odour of Sanctimony would be overpowering.

Still, let’s look of the bright side; there’s a new round of political polls due out in the next few weeks, and if Key Derangement Syndrome continues to ravage the Left, we can only imagine how low their polling might descend. Then Max Key could maybe write a song about it 😀

Max Key is playing a night show on George FM.
Feedback was good about his music and bad about him because people couldn’t get over that fact he is JK’s son.

Even the morning show announcers (who are both so lefty to be horizontal) said that if he had used another name he would be a lot more popular.

Max seemed to be happy to take his fathers name as a cross he must bear and just do the work reqd to get started.

Not only do they dislike the South Island’s beautiful lupins but they sneer at a prize-winning photograph of them.

You get the feeling that the most-purist Greenies would like to get rid of all the agriculture in NZ, then the pines, then the cities and the non-Maori, then the Maori and the introduced birds (including the self-introduced blown from Australia) and introduced flowers.

Finally a few score purists could wander in rapture through NZ refashioned to be as it was 2000 years ago, perhaps even with cloned moa.

I terrific role model, name any scandal he has been linked to. And when you get to talk to him a realy nice bloke. I doubt your additiced critics could evan fly a helcopter on xbox let along getting near a real one because you would not be able to pass the theory exams.

The article neither dislikes nor sneers. It emphasises more than once that both the photograph and the plants are very beautiful.

However, beauty does not equal goodness or ecological benefit. Beautiful plants, just like animals, can do just as much damage – environmental, ecological, economic – as ugly ones. Tigers are very beautiful and one of them splashing through the Shotover River would make for a terrific photograph, but this is not to say that it would be a good idea to let a few of them loose in the Otago countryside. Stoats are actually quite handsome creatures but that does not make them welcome in Fjordland. The fact that lupins look gorgeous in photographs does not atone for the damage they do to local wildlife.

We have never seen the Prime Minister look so weak. Today it looks as if he has lost his strong and choking grip on his previously loyal party.

For the first time since 2006 the National Party is showing voters an unstable organisation which is no longer unanimously behind the Prime Minister.

At parliament this afternoon the Prime Minister was asked whether it was a sign of instability after emails were leaked showing two crisis meetings organised by National’s North Shore MP and silver fern advocate Maggie Barry.

The Prime Minister maneuvered the question in his favour, telling reporters that “MPs meet all the time” and this was nothing new.

That’s correct. But emails being leaked by a supposedly loyal MP? That’s entirely new, and extremely damaging to the Prime Minister’s long-held public perception of being a leader who is supported by his colleagues. National, in contrast to Labour, has until now suffered no leadership questions. Tonight that changes.

Housing intensification debate deferred

Len Brown has postponed the housing intensification debate after recognising the need to take the views of the community on board.

Auckland Mayor Len Brown is deferring the controversial issue of rezoning thousands of homes for intensification until next Wednesday.

The issue was down to be debated at today’s governing meeting, but after a delegation of five councillors met with Mr Brown last night the mayor decided to delay the issue.

Mr Brown said he recognised the need to reflect the views of the community and the need to be a “little bit flexible in this space”.

“This is the most significant plan change this city has every seen, or likely to see,” Mr Brown said.

Councillors are receiving a briefing on the Unitary Plan this afternoon, which will help inform what happens at next Wednesday’s extraordinary governing body meeting.

Next week’s meeting will allow for public input from groups such as Auckland 2040, which has accused the council of abandoning the consultative process in the Unitary Plan.

I fully support Ms Bright’s legal right to appeal the courts decision.

I would also demand that if she looses on appeal that any costs incurred by the council in relation to Ms Bright’s appeal are clawed back.

Costilla County, CO — Across the U.S., local zoning officials are making it increasingly difficult for people to go off the grid, in some instances threatening people with jail time for collecting rainwater or not hooking into local utilities.
As zoning laws have increasingly targeted the off-grid lifestyle, many have moved to the Southwestern U.S. as an escape from overzealous zoning officials. In Costilla County, Colorado, there has been a major influx of off-grid residents to the San Luis Valley. The combination of lax zoning regulations, cheap property, and an already thriving community of self-reliant off-grid homesteaders has led to many new residents.
The off-grid lifestyle, enjoyed by an estimated 800 people, is now being threatened as county officials have recently made moves to essentially regulate and license the lifestyle into oblivion.
