Mikenmild, OK, please name a specific battle then that represented a Christian conquest in Central and Western Europe. Further East, the Teutonic Knights for example, did wage an explicitly religious set of campaigns to convert the heathen Balts. Mostly failed though. Spain, again,a reconquest; Spain was Christian before it was conquered by Islamic forces. Most of France, Britain, Germany, and Scandinavia was converted by missionaries, often with significant casualties amongst those preaching the word.

I agree with you regarding some of the comments made to Ms Bright.
My position is that I don’t use bad language in comments as quite frankly it detracts from the force of what is being said.
I think however that Ms Bright has the ability to get up peoples noses by being sanctimonious, refusing to debate, being hypocritical, not answering questions, ignoring questions and generally being a self absorbed self interested narcissist.
In the case I get asked to elaborate by Ms Bright, then I draw her attention to the numerous comments of Nookin, Nostradamus, Keeping Stock Graham and others on the subject.

I don’t really give a shit about what Penny does or says here. What does annoy me is she puts herself on a pedestal as an anti corruption watchdog of sorts calling for greater transparency, which she does not apply to herself when questioned. That hypocrisy rankles me.

Quite so ciaron – I have had lunch with Alex Masterly, and his sidekick Quinton Hogg. I have watched cricket with MT_Tinman and GPT1, who is a less frequent commenter. You and I are long overdue for a game of golf. And I shouted DPF a beer when he came to Whanganui a few years ago, although strangely enough he had to leave before he could return the favour 😀

I do however regard myself as extremely fortunate never to have been bitten by a publicwatchdog 😉

We might have to wait a bit longer KS, I’ve recently had my swing rebuilt, and as a consequence I’m struggling to get down to the ball with my irons on the course. If it’s not topped, it’s either thin or fat and I’ve not worked out why yet, and I seem to be pulling everything left at the moment, quite unsettling for a natural slicer…

That and I’ve twinged my back mucking about playing table tennis on Sunday 🙁

About section:
There is greater latitude when it comes to public figures such as MPs. They can and should be criticised, but not to a degree when it is just nasty abuse.

I would say running for Mayor of the largest city in New Zealand puts Penny fairly in the spotlight as a “public figure” able to be criticised. And once again I apologise for the language used, however we will never stop trying to hold Penny to be accountable as she demands others be.

Addendum.
I have just read some of the earlier comments. It is unfortunate that the debate has to descend to that level when there is an inexhaustible supply of material (usually supplied by her warship herself) upon which to debate. Keep it seemly, fellas.

My thoughts:

1. You’re entitled to complain to DPF if you think other Kiwiblog readers have breached the comments policy. I think some people have crossed the line from robust debate to personal attacks.

2. Other people are entitled to complain to DPF if they think you’ve breached the comments policy. I think you’ve occasionally crossed the line from robust debate to personal attacks. The only time I’ve complained to DPF about one of your comments was when you accused me – unjustifiably and without provocation – of making or receiving bribes. DPF gave you a strike for that comment.

3. My suggestion, if you’re serious about running a mayoral campaign, would be to modify some aspects of your commenting style. Dismisisng comments from “purported lawyers” – without addressing the substantive matters raised – doesn’t contribute to robust debate. Reposting lengthy comments – such as the World Justice Project letter – multiple times (and at a guess I’d say I’ve seen it at least 10 times) is borderline trolling. Copying-and-pasting lengthy extracts from media articles is potentially a breach of copyright. As I reminded you recently, DPF has previously asked you to post shorter comments with links.

4. I will say, though, that our last exchange was on the right track: you asked me for my opinion on facilitation payments and I addressed your question. I hope you maintain that approach when responding to my comments.

I hear you Alex,
I’ve been put in more of a “stack and tilt” setup at the moment. I’m working on eliminating the excessive wrist hinge at the top that I developed trying to emulate this guy.

When it all links up and you don’t feel the ball on the way through, its great. Only problem is I only get that on the range…

I used to be bad off the tee, and pretty good at scrambling with the irons, now I’m doing pretty well off the tee and can’t buy a second shot. Wedge game’s not bad, but lets not talk about putting!

” Two haggard old Democrats took to the stage at a debate hosted by Google, NBC and the non-convicted members of the Congressional Black Caucus to argue over whether America should be run by Vladimir Lenin or Nurse Ratched.

If looks could kill, the glazed hatred in the eyes of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders would have slain more Democrats than heroin and cocaine. Hillary Clinton’s impossibly immobile yellow helmet of hair and impossibly immobile thin-lipped red smile framed two dead eyes filled with an implacable hatred for all human life on earth and especially in South Carolina. Bernie Sanders ranted at the camera, lips wet with saliva, hair wild, eyes unhinged behind dirty bifocals, spotlights glinting off his polished skull.

There were more three-point plans and comprehensive plans and the “most comprehensive plans” on stage at any one time since the fall of the USSR. Everyone had the most comprehensive plan for everything which was endorsed by all the experts which couldn’t possibly fail. Just like all their failed plans before which also couldn’t possibly fail, but somehow had.

Hillary Clinton offered an awkward opening statement comparing herself to Martin Luther King. Bernie Sanders delivered the same rambling soundbite about the 1 percent and a rigged economy that is his only platform. A rigged economy however is just another way of describing Socialism.

Martin O’Malley claimed that he was Martin O’Malley, but no one seemed interested. So he tried to claim that he was Barack Obama and no one believed him.

Hillary Clinton promised to fix all the crumbling infrastructure. Bernie Sanders promised to fix even more of the crumbling infrastructure. But the most obvious crumbling infrastructure on stage in South Carolina was Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton. And the Democratic Party.

And there was no hope of fixing them.”

Why do your comments always read as though you are frothing at the mouth?
Firstly, my comment about Penny and golf was not an insult to the blog, or its owner. It should be construed as praise, but perhaps the effect was too subtle for one such as yourself.
As for previous comments, I’ve got no reason to suppose I was incorrect in my suppositions about the so-called Taxpayers’ Union, and I remain sceptical that DPF’s blogs on freedom for big tobacco are his heartfelt personal opinion.

Ngāpuhi kaumātua and spokesperson for Te Tii Marae says the Government will not be welcome at Waitangi if a proposal to sign the TPPA goes ahead on the week of the nation’s celebrations next month. He says the lack of proper consultation with Māori means they have been left in the dark.

This probably reveals another aspect of trade negotiations that is vague.
Is this stage of the TPPA signed off only by Cabinet Members?
Are other National MPs involved
Is anyone from Labour or the Opposition represented?
What about the Governor General?
Just who will Te Tii Marae not welcome?
