TV3 breathlessly brought us the non-news last night about a bunch of teenagers ‘forced’ to live rough in the bush behind some factories in New Lynn (where else?). ‘Forced’ means they have nowhere else to live, except they do. At home with their parents.
TV3 once again twisting things to make it look as if the evil Government is not providing for these layabouts.

Why do I have to listen to “experts” from second rate so called Universities, who expound their socialist theories, many of whom have never done a real job in their lives.

I watched a bit of University Challenge – hahahaha – Otago vs AUT. I’m not sure if the AUT folks’ problem was being non-English speakers – the closest we came to finding out was one of them answering ‘uuuuuuuuh’ to a question.

It was around 150-200 points to -5. Something like that. AUT were on -5 points deep into the programme. I’d try four Asians next time – can’t be any worse.

I think you will find the MSM pick the lefties from Universities to reinforce their own left bias.
I worked at Uni of Auckland for 13 years and I can tell you there is no small number of sensible academics who think the lefties are full of shit. The cold war in the Psych Dept was hilarious at times.
My favorite was when some feminist clown was giving a forum and she stated that all heterosexual sex is rape…. to which at least one academic jumped to is feet and loudly proclaimed “what a load of crap”. Others were equally as scathing but not as basic 🙂

On another occasion an academic said.. ” If I have to listen to her any longer I will start lactating”

Sadly, it is true that people can be arrested what they say in countries that like to think of themselves as free and democratic; there have even been cases of people being charged and sentenced for something they’ve said. But that doesn’t make it okay. It’s a violation of their freedom of speech.

Agree though that mocking, deriding and abusing people for what they say is not a violation of freedom of speech. It may be rude, hurtful, crass, offensive, and none of these are good; but it’s an exercise of a freedom and should not be subject to official sanction.

I am saved from all the alleged drivel and left wing nonsense on RNZ simply by the appauling diction of so many of the on-air staff.
There are quite a few of the old timers who can speak clearly and without peculiar accents which make the station tolerable some of the time [ news bulletins ]
I remember when I joined NZBC in 1963 there was considerable flak about the tight requirements on prospective employees but sadly how far have they slipped since then.
Then there is the concert programme which was a joy in my life when I separated from my wife 26 years ago, she couldn’t stand YC and got s black-dog mood whenever she heard me listening to it, but these days it is such a mish mash trying to please everybody’s tastes I wonder if it pleases anybody consistently, I simply turn it off these days.
Don’t lets not discuss the two idiots who run the afternoon national sessions and the ‘B’ team woman in the morning URRRGH!
I thought the ‘A’ team woman was bad enough talking over the talent but ……:)

RNZ this morning hit a new low, Nick Smith announces a marine reserv e and they manage to find person after person to rubbish the idea so Smith wants to do something good for the earth and RNZ manage to paint him as some environmental vandal continuing the National party trashing of the planet.
That fruit loop Eugenie Sage needs to think about kicking the government every time, perhaps congratulating Smith and pointing to some positive outcome might make her look a little bit sane.

Charities have ended up in the position where they have to spend $4 million in advertising to get $8 million in donations. Or that charity doesn’t get any donations. They all now employ professional staff.

The big ones – breast cancer – crowd the 1000’s of others out. But business signs up to the likes of breast cancer because it’s advertising. The rest really haven’t that much chance.

JCUK – Absolutely correct the holiday programme on Red Radio is just ghastly – but that’s the way they like it apparently. In previous years I have written and complained (since I’m helping to pay for it!) but this year I really don’t care as I seldom listen to the station. My complaints were always answered with ‘ but the staff need a holiday with their families…..’ Katherine Ryan must be one of the worst and most biased broadcasters around – with the notable exception of Noel ! Not even ‘B’ grade.

Professional Atheist Dawkins Says Christianity ‘Bulwark Against Something Worse’

“In a text that is coursing about on social media, professional God-slayer Richard Dawkins begrudgingly admitted that Christianity may actually be our best defense against aberrant forms of religion that threaten the world.

“There are no Christians, as far as I know, blowing up buildings,” Dawkins said. “I am not aware of any Christian suicide bombers. I am not aware of any major Christian denomination that believes the penalty for apostasy is death.”

In a rare moment of candor, Dawkins reluctantly accepted that the teachings of Jesus Christ do not lead to a world of terror, whereas followers of radical Islam perpetrate the very atrocities that he laments.

Because of this realization, Dawkins wondered aloud whether Christianity might indeed offer an antidote to protect western civilization against jihad.”

Can we please, please just stop and think for a minute.

This is New Zealand, a country that was founded on immigration, currently numbers people from many different countries, faiths and cultures in its population and has derived great benefits from that.

Do we really think it a bad thing to think and hope that

Dunedin folk will be most hospitable and welcoming

to a small group of new arrivals?

Are we really happy to see words like “infestation” being used to describe a section of the population?

Don’t we want to be better than Nazis?

GODWIN’S LAW you all cry, but in this instance I really do think the example is very relevant. We should take a careful, sober look at some of the things being said now and ask ourselves how it’s different now.

Why Feminism Failed Cologne’s Women: A feminism in thrall to the left is one of the biggest threats to women.

Big Feminism has a great deal of interest in rape as an abstract idea that can be unpacked to represent everything the left hates from Valentine’s Day to environmental degradation to the college frat, but it has little interest in rape as a crime or rape victims as people.

Feminism is only another of the many manipulative masks that the left wears. Its acolytes cannot see rape as a personal crime, only as an ideological one. To the left, rape, like racism, is a form of institutional oppression practiced by the stronger white male against everyone else. Sexual assaults that don’t fit this structural template won’t be acknowledged and when they become so public that they must be acknowledged, it will be only to change the conversation.

That process is already underway in Germany as feminists insist that all the coverage of the Muslim rape mob attackers (a coverage that took place despite the best efforts of their left-wing colleagues to bury the politically incorrect story before anyone had even heard about it) is distracting attention from domestic sex crimes. The obligatory feminist protests emphasized opposition to sexism and racism, but they did not mean the form of racism that led large numbers of asylum seekers to see native women as fair game to be abused, degraded and spit on, but the racism involved in calling them out for it.

The hundreds of women who were attacked in a single day by Muslim mobs are inconvenient victims. Like the Peace Corps workers abused by the locals or female activist raped by the Palestinian Muslims they came to help, their stories don’t fit the intersectional paradigm and have to be covered up in a politically correct burka.”

We are also now aware that German police fired water cannons at German protesters in Cologne who gathered to protest the rapes and sexual assaults committed by the Muslim refugees. Right, it is not the Muslim migrants who committed sex assaults that are being shot at with water cannons, but those who feel that what they did violates women’s rights and western values.

@Cha, I think the definition most accepted is that “natural citizen” means one that is automatically a citizen from birth with no requirements. Thus born overseas to US citizen(s) qualifies.

It’d be odd indeed if Cruz couldn’t be president but anyone born in the US could – especially if that was to two radical Islamist terrorists.
