This is wrong for so many reasons – short sentence, early parole, slow action after complaint.

Sex offending teacher Charles Harter has been granted parole, says victim’s mum

A young victim of a teacher who sexually abused her burst into tears on hearing he was to be released from prison after serving a little more than a third of his sentence.

Charles Harter, 64, a music teacher at Havelock North Primary School, was sentenced to three years and four months’ jail in October 2014, after pleading guilty to nine representative charges of sexual conduct with nine girls under 12, between February 1 and July 21 of that year.

The mother of one of Harter’s victims, who has travelled to Wellington to attended both his parole hearings, on October 5 and last Wednesday, said she had been informed that he had been granted parole and would be freed from prison later this month.

Dame Susan Devoy has been given a pass mark for her work as Race Relations Commissioner in a new poll, and has also won over some of her initial critics.

A Herald-DigiPoll survey asked people to rate Dame Susan’s performance, and 58 per cent approved of her handling of the role.

Nearly a third of respondents said she had done a “satisfactory” job and 17 per cent said her performance was “good”. Just 16 per cent said the former squash star had done a “poor” job in her two-and-a-half year tenure at the Human Rights Commission.

Well if Russia Today is the mouth piece of the Kreme in as alleged by many on here, then I’d like to raise a toast to Vladimir Putin who seems to be the only major international leader who deals in realities rather than naive utopian fantasies.

It really is an excellent op-ed and there are even 2 paragraphs dedicated to New Zealand! Some excerpts from yesterdays RT op- ed:

While the liberal media is working on damage limitation as the fairy dust on its childlike delusions is blown away by the harsh winds of reality in places like Cologne, it is time for European nations to ask themselves whether they believe in their own right to exist.

Just because post-WWII European liberals have been culturally neutered doesn’t mean that the armies of young men pouring in from Arab countries and sub-Saharan Africa have been, too.

The liberals are in denial at the dissonance between their theses and actual reality, and engaged in damage limitation – or simply blaming the victims – to make up the shortfall.

But rape and pillage – such as we have seen across Europe – is what invading armies do. It’s what our invading armies do – why should anyone else’s be different? The young men themselves understand exactly what’s going on, even if the fools around them do not……..

Politically correct liberal insistence upon things being – in fact – how some in socialist think tanks might wish them to be has gone beyond the point of tolerable insanity; it has the aspect of a death wish; of an enforced, self-service, pay-as-you-go ethnic cleansing of Europe’s indigenous peoples. And no amount of pleading the compassion card is going to diffuse this reality.

If we are looking for causes of the crimes against Syria and Iraq, they are to be found in the nature and acceptance of usury, and the policies of think tanks designed to further the interests of a very few people.

The vast majority of European peoples did not create either problem. They certainly do not benefit from them. There is no reason why they should pay for them.

My nation’s forebears laid down their lives in their millions to defend their land. I do not believe I am alone in regarding as pernicious, criminal, treacherous and evil that collusion between politics, education, media and business which treats any instinct for survival among indigenous European peoples as a disposable and distasteful commodity.

Voices of reason are coming to the fore – from Hungary and Slovakia, for example. We should listen to them.

This morning Greens Siamese Twin leader James Shaw spoke of how we should make the next Syrian intake of ‘refugees’ as comfortable as possible. However, the most frightening part of his talk was that twice he emphasised that mental health services be provided for them because of their background. So how mentally unbalanced are these people?

Penny (failed mayor candidate) turned up to ‘islam Awareness Week’ at Aotea Centre a couple of years ago and proceeded to yell her bull over her loud speaker drowning out a recitation of the Holy Qur’an.

We had booked the space with the council and Penny simply gatecrashed to take advantage of a free and unwilling audience.

Penny – how about, as a show of good faith, you provide answers to the many genuine questions you have been asked about your mayoral campaign and your policies? After all, you do purport to be an anti-corruption and transparency watchdog.

You see, respect goes two ways. When you come on here with an agenda, as you did yesterday with the Bernie Sanders/anti-Wall St stuff, you are going to provoke a response. You demand answers from us, but refuse to give them yourself; can you genuinely not see the disconnect? And you rattle on about people posting anonymously, yet that is exactly what our host DPF allows us to do; never forget it is HIS blog, and everyone who comments here does so because HE allows them to.

I am sure people would engage with you if you engaged with them in a respectful way, without accusing them of “dirty politics” because they see things differently to you and have the temerity to point that out to you. You’re not above a bit of “dirty politics” yourself Ms Bright; the defacing of John Banks’ election hoardings, the constant “Dodgy John” references which contrast strongly with “I don’t do gossip and personal comments”, and your constant attempts to paint the Prime Minister in a bad light because, heaven forbid, he has a few Bank of America shares.

I don’t expect you to take any notice of this, given it is posted pseudonomously. But maybe, just maybe after yesterday, you should take a look at your own role in the events that transpired, rather than so willingly claiming victimhood.

I wasn’t a follower of David Bowie .His style and music just didn’t appeal but that hasn’t stopped me honouring him and his undeniably important contribution to the rock scene .

Aa anecdote on RNZ this morning about his star role in Merry Christmas Mr Laurence .Some of it was shot at Kings College ,Otahuhu Apparently it was inside one of the school science labs said to be represent the kind of one his character wasn’t a follower of David Bowie .His style and music just didn’t appeal but that hasn’t stopped me honouring him and his undeniably important contribution to the Rock scene .

I do recall being part of a group who watched a scene shoot from afar for Merry Christmas Mr Laurence which he featured .It was shot at Kings College ,Otahuhu Apparently it was inside one of the school science labs said to be represent the kind of one his charter attended as student. . A friend’ “starred” as a Japanese POW extra.. Considered sufficiently skeletal and emaciated looking to get the role.

Of course they have to find as many “kiwi connections” to David Bowie as possible. We are probably 6 hours away from an article about a fish & chip shop his tour bus stopped at one day and how DB said he liked the fish…

Then they are STILL flogging the Chris Gayle thing. Today they are all over him with the scoop of the century – he turned down an easy single in a domestic t20 game.

There was also an article that said – Renting becoming the norm for kiwis. I clicked it. it went on to say “even though most homes are still owner occupied”. ummmm wouldnt that be the norm then?

anyone else reckon our petrol pump prices seem too high given the current value of oil?

All things considered (fx/oil price) , the prices should be around 1.20-1.30l as they were earlier this decade… Helen and John added 22c/l in taxes since that, so that pushes to 1.50-1.60l.

So, I reckon our prices are 10c to 20c/l too high.

I’m playing 30/30 at Clearwater later this week with some brothers from church. It’s a much shorter format, supposed to take 2.5 hrs. We played it last year for the first time and it’s still quite challenging with lots of half shots… need to dial in those yardages! 🙂

Simple Stephieboy – the Western powers have to justify their actions in Syria by claiming Bashir al Assad is a monster – he isn’t.

Nobody claims that Syria was ever a paradise but it was the most liberal Arab state by far until it was destabilized by the West to advance Western interests and those of the Gulf States.

That story tells of the horrors inflicted on Syria by foreigners armed and funded by non Syrian people including your hero Barack Obama, a singularly repulsive individual, who is both arrogant and stupid – a dangerous combinatiobn

EAD, where did I say I liked David Bowie ‘s music. ? I actually never did but it did not stop me admiring him and his contribution to rock music ,subliminal political messages or not.

My friend who worked as an extra on Merry christmas Mr Lawrence did meet him briefly on the set and found him a very nice natural kind of guy that belied his super rock star image.Others felt the same .

I was mucking around with various clubs and a stance change rather than taking the round seriously.

The trees took a bit of a pounding. Once I dialled things in the drive went straighter than it has for a long time.

Care About Syrian Refugees? Listen To Them

The first-ever survey of Syrian refugees in Europe shows Syrians are fleeing from Assad, not ISIS. Nearly all of them want to go home…

Here are six key results from the survey:

1. Most Syrians are fleeing from Assad, not ISIS… 70% are fleeing the violence of the Assad regime and its allies (32% ISIS, 18% Free Syrian Army, 17% Al Nusra, 8% Kurdish forces).

2. Most fear arrest or kidnap by the Assad regime… 86% say kidnapping or arrest was a threat to their personal safety. 77% of them fear it from the Assad regime, 42% ISIS, 18% Al Nusra, 13% Free Syrian Army and 8% Kurdish forces.

3. Nearly all Syrians want to go home… Only 8% said they’d want to stay in Europe indefinitely.

4. Assad needs to go for Syrians to return home… 52% said that Bashar al-Assad would need to leave power before they would return home.

5. Stopping the barrel bombs would help more stay in Syria. Much more than increased aid.

The vast majority of refugees said they feared Assad’s barrel bombs — the improvised metal barrels packed with explosive and scrap metal that government helicopters drop from miles up in the sky onto civilian neighborhoods.

These barrel bombs and other aerial attacks are the number one killer of civilians in Syria – the barrels alone have killed more than 2,000 children since the UN banned them in 2014. They routinely destroy hospitals, schools and homes. Syrians living under the barrel bombs find it difficult to forget the terror, even once they have fled to safety.

To stop the refugees pouring over Syria’s borders we have to stop the bombs. More aid isn’t the answer.

73% said barrel bombs were a threat to their personal safety. 58% said a no-fly zone would help more stay in Syria, only 24% said the same for increased aid.

6. The cause of today’s situation is Assad’s military response to peaceful demonstrations… 79% said it was the Bashar al-Assad’s military response to the demonstrations that led most to the situation today.

Just heard on the 10am news that the FBI is now investigating Hilarry Clinton for alleged “corruption”

The FBI is widening its investigation of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email account while she was U.S. secretary of state to determine whether any public corruption laws were violated, Fox News reported on Monday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been looking into whether classified material was mishandled during Clinton’s tenure at the State Department from 2009-2013.

It will expand its probe by examining possible overlap of the Clinton Foundation charity with State Department business, Fox reported, citing three unidentified intelligence officials.

“The [FBI] agents are investigating the possible intersection of Clinton Foundation donations, the dispensation of State Department contracts and whether regular processes were followed,” Fox quoted one of its unidentified sources as saying.

The FBI and the State Department had no immediate comment on the report. The Clinton campaign didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus issued a statement calling the Fox News report “a very troubling development.”

The FBI last expanded its probe into the server in November to examine whether “materially false statements” were ever provided to agents throughout the course of the case.

Yes, what happened in Kobane is terrible. “At least 3,247 structures were damaged.” But not just bombed by the USA, but where fighting occurred between local Kurdish forces and ISIS and supported by US airstrikes. Just goes to show that airstrikes, while effective, are pretty much guaranteed to cause enormous destruction, and kill and drive away the local population. I would have thought Russia could have learned from the US’s mistakes, but no, they too are conducting massive airstrikes in Syria.

Under international humanitarian law, it is a war crime to target hospitals during times of conflict. “We can only wonder whether this concept is dead,” said said Sylvain Groulx, the head of MSF’s operation in Syria.

Andrei, if we are going to do comparisons, remember what you said about the US hitting one hospital in Afghanistan last year. One hospital that caused a lot of soul searching in the US and an investigation. Yet the Russians can bomb 12 (I think it’s more than that to date) and yet they are not “monstrous”.

EXCLUSIVE: The FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of private email as secretary of state has expanded to look at whether the possible “intersection” of Clinton Foundation work and State Department business may have violated public corruption laws, three intelligence sources not authorized to speak on the record told Fox News.

This new investigative track is in addition to the focus on classified material found on Clinton’s personal server.

“The agents are investigating the possible intersection of Clinton Foundation donations, the dispensation of State Department contracts and whether regular processes were followed,” one source said.

Clinton, speaking to the Des Moines Register, on Monday pushed back on the details of a second investigative track. According to reporter Jennifer Jacobs, Clinton said Monday she has heard nothing from the FBI.

“No, there’s nothing like that that is happening,” Clinton said, according to a tweet from Jacobs.

Experts including a former senior FBI agent said the bureau does not have to notify the subject of an investigation.

The development follows press reports over the past year about the potential overlap of State Department and Clinton Foundation work, and questions over whether donors benefited from their contacts inside the administration.

The Clinton Foundation is a public charity, known as a 501(c)(3). It had grants and contributions in excess of $144 million in 2013, the most current available data.

Inside the FBI, pressure is growing to pursue the case.

One intelligence source told Fox News that FBI agents would be “screaming” if a prosecution is not pursued because “many previous public corruption cases have been made and successfully prosecuted with much less evidence than what is emerging in this investigation.”

The FBI is particularly on edge in the wake of how the case of former CIA Director David Petraeus was handled.

One of the three sources said some FBI agents felt Petraeus was given a slap on the wrist for sharing highly classified information with his mistress and biographer Paula Broadwell, as well as lying to FBI agents about his actions. Petraeus pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in March 2015 after a two-plus-year federal investigation in which Attorney General Eric Holder initially declined to prosecute.

In the Petraeus case, the exposure of classified information was assessed to be limited.

By contrast, in the Clinton case, the number of classified emails has risen to at least 1,340. A 2015 appeal by the State Department to challenge the “Top Secret” classification of at least two emails failed and, as Fox News first reported, is now considered a settled matter.

It is unclear which of the two lines of inquiry was opened first by the FBI and whether they eventually will be combined and presented before a special grand jury. One intelligence source said the public corruption angle dates back to at least April 2015. On their official website, the FBI lists “public corruption as the FBI’s top criminal priority.”

Fox News is told that about 100 special agents assigned to the investigations also were asked to sign non-disclosure agreements, with as many as 50 additional agents on “temporary duty assignment,” or TDY. The request to sign a new NDA could reflect that agents are handling the highly classified material in the emails, or serve as a reminder not to leak about the case, or both.

“The pressure on the lead agents is brutal,” a second source said. “Think of it like a military operation, you might need tanks called in along with infantry.”

Separately, a former high-ranking State Department official emphasized to Fox News that Clinton’s deliberate non-use of her government email address may be increasingly “significant.”

“It is virtually automatic when one comes on board at the State Department to be assigned an email address,” the source said.

“It would have taken an affirmative act not to have one assigned … and it would also mean it was all planned out before she took office. This certainly raises questions about the so-called legal advice she claimed to have received from inside the State Department that what she was doing was proper.”

On Sunday, when asked about her email practices while secretary of state, Clinton insisted to CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” “there is no there, there.”

These eerie developments are, of course, completely in line with why Naomi Wolf finds the hijab “sexy” and why Oslo Professor of Anthropology Dr. Unni Wikan’s solution for the high incidence of Muslims raping Norwegian women is not for the rapists to be punished, but for Norwegian women to “take their share of responsibility” for the rapes because Muslim men found their manner of dress provocative. Norwegian women, she has counseled, “must realize that we live in a Multicultural society and adapt themselves to it.”

We are also now aware that German police fired water cannons at German protesters in Cologne who gathered to protest the rapes and sexual assaults committed by the Muslim refugees. Right, it is not the Muslim migrants who committed sex assaults that are being shot at with water cannons, but those who feel that what they did violates women’s rights and western values.

In the meantime, the Baltic Dry Index (“an assessment of the price of moving the major raw materials by sea”) is continuing to fall. Make of it what you will, but it would suggest a looming slowdown in manufacturing.

Do your own research and draw your own conclusions. (If I knew what I was talking about, I wouldn’t be here wasting your time.)

No Penny, it is never legitimate to call a woman, or anybody else, “c**t”; and neither a “decent woman” nor anybody else can legitimately be blamed for being able to think, debate, and stick up for herself.

However, thinking, debating and sticking up for yourself are not the reasons you are attracting so much opprobrium here. Plenty of other KBers think, debate and stick up for themselves, and they don’t get the abuse.

It’s precisely because you do not think and debate that others give up on trying to engage constructively. You never answer the questions that are put to you, and you never show any evidence of having understood, or thought about, or even read, the answers that are given in response to the questions that you put. That is what thinking and debating means, and you do not do it.

sigh…Penny may irritate, annoy and generally get your goat, but we are plumbing new depths in the insult comments here.

One can vehemently disagree and state reasons why, (or just ignore her) but to fling out and/or allude in such a rude way defies reason.

blimmin heck, do you think if she was not welcome here DPF would not have flicked her eons ago?

He hasn’t, and in my opinion for all the right reasons surrounding freedom of speech.

Crumbs she gets up my wick from time to time too, I have engaged with Penny over the last week or so and I have now given up because she wont answer good questions, but the C word….come on.

My 2 cents worth, just saying.

It seems that my well-intentioned 8.26am post to Ms Bright has fallen on deaf ears, or more likely ears that do not wish to hear; especially my last paragraph:

I don’t expect you to take any notice of this, given it is posted pseudonomously. But maybe, just maybe after yesterday, you should take a look at your own role in the events that transpired, rather than so willingly claiming victimhood.

That simply confirms my suspicions about Ms Bright. It’s not about corruption, or transparency, or dirty politics or anything like that. No; her participation here is all about her. And that speaks volumes.

You are trolling Keeping Stock – Penny Bright’s contributions to this blog are worthwhile and pertinent – Sometimes they are not of interest to me personally

Sometimes I don’t agree with her views

And sometimes I think she is right on the money

But for every post she makes we see at least 10 responses – rarely engaging with the issue she has raised but attacking her personally.

Sometimes she foolishly responds to these attacks instead of treating them with the contempt they deserve by ignoring them
