It’s a normal work day in Tokyo, and one of my clients has already sent me an assignment. I will reply to their email, but I won’t do any work today.

New Zealand has so few festivals compared with other countries in Asia, so it’s important to make the most of a major one like this one.

I went to my gym yesterday. They have a tree with donated cans of food around it. The cans were all carbs. Spaghetti, sweetcorn, and beans, beans, beans. The poor will be farting their brains out today, I fear. But hopefully they, and everyone else, will enjoy a day which brings something extra to their lives.

I’m feeling a tad old today. My “baby” daughter and her partner have just bought their first home, so we’re going there for Christmas lunch. It’ll be a bit odd.

Re Morrisey’s Grinch post at 9.26: the whole celebrity boxing fad is pretty much fake. At least Whale took a whack for charity, and climbed into the ring when he must have known he had no chance. That takes guts.

Leave Whale alone. He does a good job, and again, Merry Christmas Whale Oil, and keep up the good work.

Thank you, David. And the same to you and all of the readers and posters here at KB. I may not always agree, but it is always worth reading.

I will be celebrating with Christmas dinner with the few other foreign teachers staying here over Christmas. It’s not a big holiday in China, largely because their Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) serves much the same purpose for them – time with families, lots of good food, exchanging gifts, travelling long distances to visit relatives you only see once a year.

So a very Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Happy New Year!

Dec 25. Wake up around 2pm. Cool – no ads on TV. And some passable programmes. Gadget Man – cool. Grumpy Cat – seen it but that’s a bit of a laugh. Shit – have to *actually leave the TV* to run 10km on a burning hot day. I’m going to miss the end of Grumpy Cat. What a peasant. Shit it’s hot out here. There’s an idiot roaring past the car in front at way over 50 km/h – lowlives.
I’m going for it on lap two. 43’37” finish – fast. Got a big sweat on. That’s 2 052kms in 2015 – my present to myself – breaking 2K in a year for the second time (the other was a whopping 4 083km in 2013).

George Clarke is a repeat screening of yesterday – what the hell is the point of that ? At least I got the run over with.
So many food options – I have to write them all down. The best is home made custard square with mandarin butter icing and coconut sprinkling. Timed to enjoy while viewing Gadget Man. Feeling the burn from the sun – shit I feel stuffed. What perfect day off weather for the country – it can happen. How do I get the towels off the line if there’s no five minute ad breaks? Or take a shower? Just have to miss a few minutes.

I’ve done nothing particularly different to any other day. Good.

On the run I actually heard the big ‘no-no on Dec 25’ noise of loud gardening equipment. Wow – they’ve got balls of steel. 10km tomorrow would crack 13 000kms all time. Maybe I should’ve run them today ? But then, why . . when . . . it’s just another day.

My own Dec 25 was actually Weds Dec 16 – started the day on 1 972kms, ran a 20km and a 10km in style to pass 2 000kms in 2015. At 1 999km I cried tears of joy and just generally lost my shit. Still had 3km to go on that run dammit – it’s not over yet.
