Biking on Te Ahumairangi Hill
Stuff reports:
Mountain bikers have loved riding on Wellington’s Te Ahumairangi Hill for years and will ignore council attempts to close the illegal tracks, warns a resident and a rider.
Riders have been at loggerheads for years with Thorndon and Wadestown residents about whether bikers can use the hilly reserve behind Tinakori Rd.
Last week, Wellington City Council announced it would close the illegal mountain biking tracks and appealed to riders to contact council staff about creating tracks through official channels.
It’s a huge hill with scores of potential tracks. There’s room for both cyclists and walkers, but the Council is right that the tracks need to be done officially. Mark two or three as reserved for cyclists, so that pedestrians can avoid them.
