Nobel Committee does it again: just awarded the Peace Prize to the Muslim Brotherhood. Duh.

Before its so-called Jasmine uprising, Tunisia was the most secular, progressive, economically vibrant and peaceful Muslim country in modern history. Abortion was available on demand. Prostitution was legal and government-regulated. The streets were as safe as Singapore’s. Homosexuality was tolerated. The veil was banned in government institutions and discouraged in public. Pious men who wanted to grow long beards had to request a permit from the local police station or risk arrest. Mosques were shuttered outside of prayer times. Tolerance of other religions was taught in the education system. Religion and state were separated. The Jewish minority was protected. And the radical Islamists were where they should always be: rotting in prison.

The red light districts have since been closed. The veil and Islamist beard are ubiquitous. The press is subservient and self-censored. Tunisian gays are being imprisoned. And anyone who dares to assert their atheism – again, perfectly acceptable under Ben Ali – risks being beaten to a pulp. This is not to mention the series of political assassinations (the latest just this week), and the jihadist maniac who slaughtered dozens of British and other foreign tourists in Sousse. The country of just ten million has provided proportionally more Islamist State fighters in Iraq and Syria than any other, a process facilitated when the ‘moderate’ Muslim Brotherhood off-shoot Enahada was in government…

With respect to the mass shootings it’s the prescription drugs that are the unspoken common denominator Scott. And as you know they prescribe those left, right and centre at the drop of a hat, even to very very young people. That’s what’s wrong with their policy.

With respect to the bad guys wasted on illegal drugs to whom guns are a standard weapon just like knives are to the same type of people here, that’s a different problem with a whole lot of causes and dealing with those would take all night to explain because they require fundamental changes to the way that society is structured and operates, starting with restoring the integrity of the family unit across every sector. But those guys aren’t the same ones who do the mass shootings.

And a gun safety course.

The problem in the USA is not too many guns as the majority of owners are normal responsible people like anywhere else.
The problem is too many black wanna be gangsters and mentally insane white schoolboys who think it’s a good way to make a name for yourself by killing a shopkeeper or opening fire at a school because you had some imagined grudge against everyone.
If you have such a large element of the uncivilised as the USA does if they did not have guns to kill each other they would find another way instead as savages will always be savages.

Yeah, I guess the crims know that as well. Really should be harsher penalties for people who let their firearms fall into the hands of crims. Guy I know in Whitford went to France for a couple of weeks, didn’t lock up his guns. Got broken into. Guns stolen.

Mind you, you’ve never seen the cops act so fast when they know guns have been stolen. Dogs sniffed out the perps inside 12 hours.

If you didn’t even know you do this through some problem you have, that would have been fine.

But your lack of response given you were actively engaged in conversation up to the time I asked my question indicates you do know what you’re doing, and you do it deliberately, with malice aforethought.

It’s a dishonest debating tactic stephie. I personally find it despicable. But who cares what my values are. The key point is, most people would rate it at at least dishonest.

Iraq said on Sunday its air force had hit the meeting and had also struck a convoy that was carrying Baghdadi to attend it. It said Baghdadi had been driven away from the convoy in an unknown condition.

A Shanghai Pengxin-controlled company is pulling out of a $42.7 million deal to buy a cluster of Bay of Islands farms saying it will not put the sellers through the “frustration and pain” of a Lochinver Station-type experience.

Dakang New Zealand Farm Group, 55 per cent owned by Pengxin, applied to the Overseas Investment Office in April this year for consent to buy 3300 hectares of land from Northland’s Pinny family.

Six months on, the company said it had yet to receive advice that the OIO had considered the sale or made a recommendation to the Government.

Dakang chief executive Gary Romano said the decision to cancel the Pinny sale and purchase agreement was “somewhat” based on the company’s experience with its 2014 sale and purchase agreement to buy the Lochinver cattle and sheep station near Taupo.

This agreement had to be extended 11 times because of the time it took to get a decision, Romano said. The Government last month rejected Pengxin’s bid to buy the 13,800 hectare station for $88m from the Stevenson Group, over-riding OIO’s recommendation the deal be consented.

Romano said each extension had caused “frustration and pain” to the Lochinver vendors, and uncertainty for everyone involved.

“We are simply not confident enough of a favourable outcome to warrant putting the Northland vendors through a similar experience,” he said.

Romano said Pengxin had believed five months would be sufficient time for a rigorous review of its plans for the Pinny farms, given the OIO’s 70 working day guideline for the turnaround of applications.
