Ethnic Intermarriages

The Herald has interesting data on the proportion of NZers who have married someone of a different ethnicity. In order they are:

• Asian females 8%
• European females 12%
• European males 13%
• Asian males 22%
• Pacific males 36%
• Pacific females 48%
• Maori males 71%
• Maori females 73%

I think intermarriage is a good thing in society, Without it you run the risk of non-integration and segregation. Of course on an individual level it should be about whom you love, but it is good to see at a societal level there doesn’t appear to be huge resistance to marrying people of a different ethnicity.
