Wiki business – I carry out a lot of business in south Auckland; it is full of guys (and girls) getting on with their businesses, making something from nothing on occasion, unlike you who can only make disparaging comments about your fellow commentators.

South Auckland has the reputation from the same feral class of shit that pervades everywhere in society, they are scum and drag the reputation of a whole lot of decent people to the bottom of the cesspit.

If you don’t like the thread that runs through this blog, fuck off and become a sycophant on WO, he needs the oxygen.

Go Auckland! (and that includes the south as long as you apologise for giving us Len)

My problem with the ad is this : Beats is a company that values style above substance. They carefully cultivate the US young-black demographic with their stylish but not very good headphones. They spend heaps on advertising to cultivate new markets – which is what they are doing here. Why the ABs want to get involved with this crowd is beyond me (well, apart from the lucre). Shame on Apple for buying them.

Two minutes is all I could stand of that rubbish. In some ways that two minutes demonstrates much that is wrong with this nation. The importance given to a very minor game and the ridiculous reverential awe we display towards a pointless fucking rain dance.

Perhaps one day this nation will get its priorities in the correct order, we could start tomorrow by not idolising a man who has spent his entire career breaking the laws of the game and by not pretending he is even in the top five open side flankers of all time.

Frankly, the advert, and the nations pathetic chest beating response to it, are pathetic.

Agree entirely. Rugby is a minor sport, and the Rugby world cup is a ridiculously hyped event and most people in the world aren’t even aware that it is happening.

Funny reading the NZ Herald journalists talking about ‘world’ reaction to All Blakcs —most in the world hardly know what rugby is, let alone have heard of the all blacks

Wrong. The Rugby World Cup is a significant sporting event. Rugby is growing and strengthening internationally, especially now it is an Olympic sport.
The same old tired grumblers who moan on Kiwiblog every time the All Blacks are mentioned need to get over it and find a new hobby. There are loads of other sports to follow. I know plenty of people who don’t give a hoot about rugby – if it doesn’t appeal to you, just ignore it like thousands of mature New Zealanders do.

However much you might want it to be the fact remains that it is nothing other than a very minor sporting tournament. Interest in the UK is almost non existent, most Poms don’t even know the tournament is occurring.

As I have said many times, there is nothing wrong with our love of Rugby, nothing at all. However, we really must stop telling lies about the game and more importantly, stop telling lies about how famous the NZ team is.

Agree. It is downright embarassing the way the media and many New Zealanders are going round claiming this is a significant sporting event.

To put things in perspective:

The 2007 RWC final attracted a viewing audience of 33 million (not sure what the figures were for 2011). One third that of the yearly SuperBowl (> 100 million)

An average Premiership game (there are 38 per year) in the UK has a global audience of almost 80 million.

Number of rugby players in the world: 4 million

Number of footballers: 265 million

Number of handball players: 19 million

Over 26 million people play basketball in the US alone

There are more registered footballers in a single country like, say, Germany (6.6 million) than there are rugby players in the entire world (4 million).

Rugby a minor sport? Yes.
