They are pretty grim and I don’t think any were Western proporganda. They were the real deal from a very ugly death cult. But if you see beauty in that sort of thing ….

RP, IS is what it is, they are merely the culmination of decades of terrorist bombings – of late including mosques frequented by Shia Moslems in Iraq and Pakistan and markets where Moslem civilians gather by Islamists against fellow Moslems. The lack of respect for life itself is what is most disturbing – it is not in the cause of anyone, it is merely violence as a form of nihilism towards life on earth, as if this is a service to god/jihad martyrdom.

nasska, I don’t think so, the expression of faith/cause through violence – religious or nationalist/ethnic cause is the worst of humanity.

Private faith is harmless to others and groups of faith can co-exist peacefully, nations and ethnic groups can also peacefully co-exist.

Sure there is still intolerance within groups and nations to sectors of their population but with peace, there is the chance for progressive evolution.

Don’t see it that way SPC. If faith was on a personal level then what you posit could perhaps be possible but it isn’t. All three ME religions have strong hierarchies who are reliant on evangelism or conquest growing the pool of punters they leach their power & wealth off.

Islam is highly political…..Judaism & Christianity somewhat less but all the sects wield tremendous power which can be directed against dynasties or governments that don’t toe the accepted line.

Basically none of the faiths will pay more than lip service to peace. People not fighting for their lives or facing tragedy might have time to sit back & see the sellers of smoke & dreams for the frauds that they are.

Two Red Cross aid workers have been shot dead in northern Yemen by unknown assailants, the humanitarian organisation said.

A spokesperson for the International Committee for the Red Cross told Al Jazeera the workers, Yemeni nationals, were on their way from a mission in the city of Saada to the main office in the capital Sanaa on Wednesday when gunmen opened fire on their vehicle. The pair were travelling with two colleagues in two vehicles “clearly” marked with the Red Cross emblem when they were stopped in Amran province by a gunman who opened fire at the vehicles.

All Black captain Richie McCaw may be keen on using the silver fern in a new national flag – but New Zealand Rugby warned the design committee not to use its trademarked silver fern logo.

McCaw said on Monday that he welcomed the flag debate and thought the silver fern represented “what it means to be a Kiwi”. The symbol meant a lot to the All Blacks, so “something like that probably wouldn’t hurt”.

However, a spokeswoman for the Flag Consideration Project said officials met with the NZ Rugby Union to discuss whether it would allow its trademarked fern to be used in designs for a new flag.

The discussion occurred because a number of people had used the fern in their design submissions.

Officials were told permission to use the fern on a new flag was unlikely to be granted.

Since I saw those Australian figures on the drop in deaths due to discouraging boat people, every time someone suggests we take more refugees I’m wondering if they are effectively demanding we support a complicated system to arrange to kill people via people smuggling proxies.
