NZ dollar declining relative to the yen. (Yay!) The long-term norm of 75-80 yen to the dollar will be nice…

The trouble is that I am too much of a chicken to try and “catch a falling knife” as the stock investors say, and then I hold off buying in a rising market for fear of a correction. I’m going to have to go back to fundamentals and resist buying on impulse.

Tell you what, bank savings rates have been taking a hammering. Still, even at 3% from KiwiBank, if the real rate of inflation in NZ is 1%, then I’m ahead of the game. (Mind you, these CPI figures leave out an awful lot of important stuff like the price of certain basic foods, goods and services.)

With the long Japanese recession that began in 1992, I haven’t had a rate increase from my clients in over 20 years, and the long-term trend in my industry has been downwards. Thank goodness my productivity has risen. Over that same period in Auckland, builders/plumbers’ hourly rates have doubled, and a glass of beer is now well over twice what it was back at the turn of the century.

On the other hand, when I look out over Rangitoto every morning, I am glad to be living in Auckland. Life is good and I have hope for my children.

Interrest rates will rise as there be will lack of liquidty. NZ has 500 million in debt which means NZ is just as stuffed as the Greek state. Difference is its people who owe the debt. For NZ people to have any shot at getting through the state needs to be gutted to its core.

Interest rates in NZ to rise as capital worldwide flees to the U.S. Gut the state so the population can afford to pay down debt and the economy will fly The only solution.

Thoughts on Polygamy
One of the Supreme Court judges involved in the same sex marriage decision has stated that the same moral arguments equally apply to polygamy. How can the State restrict how many people I am able to love? It is hurtful. Polygamy exists now, it consensual and it is common in nature, the norm in fact down on the farm, so it must be right. Think of the suffering of all of those French mistresses over the years who had no legal recourse.

When polygamy is legalised there can be no restriction on the number of partners you have as that would continue the discrimination. Muslims are allowed 5 wives but there are examples of Mormons with far more, 23 wives I think is not unheard of. Of course a wife will also be allowed multiple husbands as well not a model currently adopted in the aforementioned communities. These two examples given are for a sexual relationship between the husband and the wives only just as is for the most part found in nature. For equality we must be allowed to have as many wives or husbands as we like. There can be no arbitrary total placed on it as to do so would be unfair to those who wanted one more. King Solomon apparently had 700 wives so this could be an outer limit or something to aim for. This figure would though be unrealistic in China due to the effects of the one child policy but only for heterosexual partners, not to mention the budget considerations.

The logistics of all this should be none of the State’s business so if I have 17 wives and 6 husbands then if my husbands want to sleep with each other or my wives or my husbands with my wives then who is the State to interfere with my arrangements? Can they legislate the sanctioned interactions, where would the moral standard come from and how would they police them? If my husbands or wives were having a sexual relationship after two years would they be deemed to be husbands and wives as well in law? Bigamy of course would have to been removed from being a crime at the same time as polygamy was legalised but would this be considered adultery?

Divorce will become interesting, here I see some financial advantage for the wealthy. Currently my wife would be entitled to 50% of our assets. However if I have 23 marital partners I would assume that all of the others should not suffer so then she would only be entitled to 1/23 of our assets. Some comfort for the guy who just had a $1 billion settlement in the U.S. She would have only got $43 million.

Fun times for family lawyers ahead, my advice marry one of you can.

Abraham Lincoln talks about the decisions of the Supreme Court in view of the Dred Scott decision. It could equally apply to today and gay marriage.

Judicial decisions have two uses-first, to absolutely determine the case decided, and secondly, to indicate to the public how other similar cases will be decided when they arise. For the latter use, they are called “precedents” and “authorities.”

We believe, as much as Judge Douglas, (perhaps more) in obedience to, and respect for the judicial department of government. We think its decisions on Constitutional questions, when fully settled, should control, not only the particular cases decided, but the general policy of the country, subject to be disturbed only by amendments of the Constitution as provided in that instrument itself. More than this would be revolution. But we think the Dred Scott decision is erroneous. We know the court that made it, has often over-ruled its own decisions, and we shall do what we can to have it to over-rule this. We offer no resistance to it. Judicial decisions are of greater or less authority as precedents, according to circumstances. That this should be so, accords both with common sense, and the customary understanding of the legal profession.

If this important decision had been made by the unanimous concurrence of the judges, and without any apparent partisan bias, and in accordance with legal public expectation, and with the steady practice of the departments throughout our history, and had been in no part, based on assumed historical facts which are not really true; or, if wanting in some of these, it had been before the court more than once, and had there been affirmed and re-affirmed through a course of years, it then might be, perhaps would be, factious, nay, even revolutionary, to not acquiesce in it as a precedent.

But when, as it is true we find it wanting in all these claims to the public confidence, it is not resistance, it is not factious, it is not even disrespectful, to treat it as not having yet quite established a settled doctrine for the country.

Here’s one for Stephieboy and the Clinton fans. Some of the emails released to Congress by Sidney Blumenthal are “copies” of the same emails given by Hilary Clinton to State and thence to Congress. But Blumenthal’s are different, they contain text removed from the Clinton emails, so she’s gone through and doctored the emails before giving them to State ! And there are quite clearly emails to/from Blumenthal that simply aren’t in the emails given to State by Clinton.

And the content of the deletions ? Information showing that Clinton was aware of shortcomings in the NATO campaign she was advocating at the time, and also that she knew that the new Libyan “government” was aware which major oil companies and banks supported them during the rebellion and that this would be “remembered” by the “government” when it came to allowing access to Libya’s oil and gas reserves. Remember, this is as she’s taking $100 million from Canadian oil-and-uranium mining magnate Frank Guistra.

Not really news though, is it, after all, if Clinton does it, it must be OK ? But just imagine if this was a Republican presidential candidate doing this…

So the question is, is it acceptable for this editting and cleansing of official emails to have occurred ? Is it acceptable for anyone to do this, or just Hilary Clinton ?

Ngapuhi leader Sonny Tau stands down over pigeon smuggling

The birds were reportedly shot during a hunting trip, but it was unclear whether Sonny Tau was responsible for killing them.

Ngapuhi’s Sonny Tau has been forced to stand down as chair of the iwi’s settlement negotiation body Tuhoronuku while he faces an investigation into allegations he was carrying kereru.

Well-placed Ngapuhi sources reported Mr Tau was rolled during a meeting that went to midnight last night – at which only three of more than 20 Tuhoronuku members had supported him.

Treaty Minister Chris Finlayson confirmed he was advised this morning that Mr Tau had “either voluntarily or compulsorily” been stood down until an investigation into him was resolved.

The inference being that it will be resolved, not that he will go to court and be sent to the sin bin.

Mr Finlayson believed the stand down was temporary but Mr Tau’s position was a matter for Tuhoronuku to decide.

NZ dollar. The dollar is not in trouble ,this is a good news story for our export dependant economy. It’s the pundits who report on the dollars’ rise as if it’s some sort of sports contest that we’re winning.

Simple fact is, it is cyclical, the US $ has been in the bin due to their low interest rates and struggling economy. That cycle is switching, and our rates look to be falling, so speculators are getting out of our dollar and going back to the US. Also the various crises will assist the greenback’s rise.

Media analyst Mark Dice’s latest stunt illustrates the stunning level of ignorance surrounding the issue and how easily led Americans are when told to support anything in the name of putting a stop to racism.

Although some refused to sign, when told that Old Glory has a history of “imperialism and racism,” numerous San Diegans agreed, with one man commenting, “It sounds like a great idea.”

“A lot of people are offended by the American flag,” says Dice, to which another individual enthusiastically responds, “I’ll sign this shit man!”

“Support issuing a new American flag for the new world order,” Dice tells the man, to which he agrees, “F**k yeah man!”

“Basically ban the American flag, we’re gonna put up a new American flag over the capital to signify the new world order,” Dice tells Stephieboy who signs the petition.

When a woman asks what the new flag will look like, Dice tells her it will include a pyramid and a rainbow for gay pride and to “signify the unity in the new world order.”

“Interesting,” she responds as she signs the petition.

You’ve probably seen it – the Facebook app that allows you to ‘rainbow’ your profile picture using a filter in order to support the “landmark” Supreme Court decision on gay marriage. According to the story in the Herald, 26 million Facebook users have done so. Out of 1.44 billion active users that amounts to 1.8% – ie, not that many; in fact, probably close to the actual percentage of people who consider themselves gay.

Hillary Clinton withheld Benghazi-related emails from the State Department that detailed her knowledge of the scramble for oil contracts in Libya and the shortcomings of the NATO-led military intervention for which she advocated.

Clinton removed specific portions of other emails she sent to State, suggesting the messages were screened closely enough to determine which paragraphs were unfit to be seen by the public. .

Clinton selectively edited other portions of emails she declined to provide to the State Department.

For example, in July 2012, Clinton removed paragraphs from a Blumenthal memo that warned “simply completing the election. and fulfilling a list of proper democratic milestones may not create a true democracy.” Blumenthal also wrote – in sections that Clinton deleted before providing the document to State – that the government would likely be “founded on Sharia,” or Islamic laws.

The group advocating to implement Sharia, Ansar al-Sharia, is a designated terrorist group that played a role in the Benghazi attacks.

But Clinton hid how much she knew about that development.

Well Stephieboy, one thing is certain and that is that any earlier findings were not based on all the information. As is being demonstrated, Clinton was a lot more involved in the process and in the money scramble than she has revealed; and she has entirely evaded any attempts to examine her official correspondence in its entirety.

And I repeat the question, is it acceptable for the Secretary of State to edit and remove information from the official records ? She was obligated to make all her official correspondence available; she claimed that she removed any “personal” emails and only personal emails, this latest information via Blumenthal’s release shows that she has been lying, she’s removed emails that were directly about Benghazi, and edited other emails to remove information she didn’t want revealed. Is it acceptable behaviour ?

Should rules apply to everyone, or just the “little people” and not important people like Hilary Clinton. Important and thoroughly dishonest people like Hilary Clinton more to the point.

The debacle that allowed the killing of the US ambassador to Lybia, in which she attempted to blame a video for the Benghazi “riots”, instead of acknowledging it was a full-blown terrorist act.

Clinton has lied through her teeth during the investigation process, but so far has succeeded hiding the facts. Time will tell.

Farmers is investigating claims Mary Haddock-Staniland was ridiculed by a shop assistant while trying on shorts at a store in Auckland.

She claims that while in a female changing room she overheard the assistant ask colleagues if it was okay to let “half-man, half-woman” in.

Perfectly reasonable question.

Looks like the police fucked up in the Wainuiomata raid.

First reports were that a pitbull ran out and attacked a police dog and was shot. Now the owner says it was a Staffy and it just went out the door and was shot.

The police are reported as saying the dog latched on to a police dog, but the police dog wasn’t hurt. I think that if a Staffy “latched on” to a German Shepherd, the German Shepherd would need some veterinary attention.

I wonder what are a dog owner’s rights? If 20 armed police arrive at your house looking for someone who isn’t there then shoot your dog, do you have any comeback?

I don’t envy the armed offenders’ squads in their sometimes dangerous work, but they do make some fuck-ups. Remember the visiting Scots couple who were worked over because the husband resembled a local suspect? I don’t think the tourists even got an apology.

I agree with Shawn Herles at 6.48: catering for transgender clothing shoppers will be a problem for retailers as the PC revolution rolls on.

How long before Tankersley wants all stores to have transgender changing rooms as well as changing rooms for women, or in some cases changing rooms for women and for men?

Then it will be all business premises, restaurants, public buildings, and so on required to have transgender toilets as well as male, female, and wheelchair-friendly toilets.

One answer would to make everything unisex, but that is unlikely to what many women, especially mums, need or want.

The extra cost will, of course ultimately have to be borne by all users.

The Government today said it would spend $13.9 bln over the next three years on transportation projects, a +15% increase compared with the previous three years. A third will be spent in Auckland, and $2 bln will go into public transport projects (that will all require ongoing subsidies, mainly by local authorities). Cycleways will get $251 mln.

Baypark to Girven rd intersection was left off the new eastern link plan for god knows what reason. always had to be there but was forgotten or something.

And we are still left with a fucking toll rd like no other city.

So, yesterday the AIIB signing ceremony took place here in Beijing, NZ is one of the founding nations of this, and Bill English was here for the signing, and he was one of only 3 foreign finance ministers who got to give a speech for Premier Xi, and whilst a picture of Bill English makes it onto the front page of the China Daily today, not one mention of it in NZ media that I could find. From all accounts Bill English was one of only a few foreign ministers treated as an honoured guest by the Chinese, which is amazing considering NZ is not one of the largest contributors to the AIIB, nor are we anywhere near one of the largest trading partners of China, so to be treated as an important partner is quite a coup for NZ. Disgraceful that the NZ media has ignored this.

The possibility of transmission pricing changes which could save Tiwai about $50m a year was a “pretty big thing” but a final decision on that by the Electricity Authority would not be known until early next year after a cost/benefit analysis had been done.

The Electricity Authority released its transmission pricing methodology options working paper for consultation last month. If the first option of new charges on existing and new grid investments proceeds, Tiwai would be in line for the savings. Under a second option, new charges would only apply to new investments, which would exclude the smelter.

Matthes said the smelter along with other South Island power consumers were paying a “hell of a lot of money for services they don’t receive” through current transmission costs.
